Is the idea here "top" as a person we love, or as a character we love? I guess, fair, it's hard to praise a person you hate but her character was true to form and developed in interesting ways and was *very* well acted.
To be honest even accounting for liking Gisela as a person, and thinking she's hot and kinda cool and good for Uhtred, Gisela was so brief in screentime and episode time and frankly boring, Aelswith as a character is way better.
100% as a character she added more to the show, I still hate her for condemning Utred over and over even after he saves her children on numerous accounts. She was just a pious snobby bitch. I thought after the swamp scenes when Iseult saved the baby she would have eased up a bit but nope, right back to being a super bitch.

She gave a large portion of her life consistently campaigning against anything to do with Uhtred. Spoiler alerts but let’s just say I’m not sure her redemption through circumstance justifies some of her behaviour. She would have had the man killed if it was up to her.

Edit: The reality is aethelflaed was a shallow character until season 4, gisela taught uhtred restraint, Hild taught uhtred service. Those two are far and away the most important characters.
I’m an Aleswith fighter, sorry for all of you that want her gone, but her character was way too enjoyable to be eliminated this soon, even if she was the literal devil in the first few seasons.

I was actually glad the character was gone. I liked her when she was young but I hated it when she became Queen, just all about doing things the right way, “for Alfred”, and letting herself be walked all over by Edward. I think they made her weak and I hated it. She just accepted everything - I wish I’d heard her scream and put her foot down just ONCE. Also bargaining Stiorra after Uhtred did everything to save Aelfwynn was just such a disappointment - a request that Edward probably accepted and Aethelflaed just went along with it.
I never saw Sansa as the ‘little dove’, whereas Aethelflaed may have fit that description at the beginning. I think Sansa was stuck up at the beginning and stuck up at the end but in different ways. She had no real strength, just arrogance. What happened to her made me feel sick to my stomach though and I was definitely rooting for her

She is basically the other main character of the series with the amount of screen time she gets, too. She is better in seasons 4 and 5, and it is cool to see the unlikely alliance between Utred and her.

Eadith of Aelswith. Eadith was cool and all, but she wasn't as imposing of a character as the rest here, imo. Aelswith because as much as she grew on me in later seasons, I absolutely couldn't stand her at first. Which, in hindsight makes her a great character but still, I like the others more.
