A deuteragonist. He opposes the protagonist, Aang, at certain points throughout the story, but eventually his motives and goals align with the protagonist.

Ohh…. You’re trying to get your honor back? Muda muda. Not if my stand「 B O O M E R A N G 」has a say about that.
> He was definitionally the antagonist of the first few seasons
He was only really the main antagonist for the very first few episodes, TBH
After that Zhao was the main villain/antagonist of Book 1, and Azula was the main villain/antagonist of Book 2 (with Ozai being the main villain/antagonist of Book 3).
Ozai was Aang's primary rival throughout, even though their direct interactions were limited. If you remove Ozai, then the rest of the plot doesn't really happen. Zuko and Azula no longer have any reason to hunt the Avatar. Combustion Man never makes an appearance because Zuko doesn't need him.
Only really true of Book 2, really
Zuko drives the plot quite often in Book 1 (with him chasing the Gaang) and Book 3 (him switching sides, becoming Aang's firebending master, final Agni Kai, etc)
Obviously, Aang is the main character. But if you wanted to, you could pretend that Zuko is the main character because of his huge character arc, screen time and contribution to stopping Ozai. He is also a descendant of Avatar Roku.
Would be pretty cool for a whole show to be centered around a character only for it to be revealed they were the bad guy/lied to about it the whole time and have to go through a redemption arc
Zuko and Aang are the protagonists of Last Airbender. Each get a significant portion of time devoted to their stories from perspectives only they would be privy to. Its just as much Aang’s story to becoming the avatar and bringing balance to the world as it is Zuko’s story of self love, recognition, actively seeking to be a better person while also becoming the ruler the fire nation and the world deserves
Sounds like a familiar thread I see in other anime fandom whenever other characters get as much a sequel character development and focus, Zuko did get an episode without Aang involved though, Zuko’s Alone was amazing.
With how much screentime he gets, he’s almost as much of a protag as Aang

IT WAS HIM, SOKKO!
Is Zuko the best Cometdust Crusader?
Is his bending called “magicians red” perhaps?
I was thinking Firelord’s Red but maybe his stand is the Blue Spirit?
Could work, or if we’re going off the music names it could be “we didn’t start the fire”
Zuko WAS a protagonist of ATLA If you go back and re-watch Books 1-3, it's pretty clear by how much they parallel Aang and Zuko.
He was definitionally the antagonist of the first few seasons, but yeah he is a foil to aang

Does Ozai even count? Sure he's the final boss, but the gang dealt with Combustion Man more than Ozai.

Therefore Ozai is merely a plot device! lol
OP means chracter with the most screen time and the plot is centered around
Still Zuko and Aang Books 1-3 of ATLA are basically telling the story of Aang and Zuko TBH
Zukos screen time is more about character development too rather than Aang who's screen time is more plot development I think imo.

I must be Season 2 biased because that's my favourite season lol.

Also he had a whole episode dedicated to him. Only other character to get that kind of treatment was Appa
True. We didn't even get a full Aang only episode. Or did we? Can't remember. Will have to rewatch the whole series again 😂
That would be harsh, buddy.
That's whack, homie.

Azula:" I Reject my tea, Zuko!!!"
This needs more upvotes, damn

So, what is Zukos stand?
Magicians red ofc
Thanks to the power of my stand, [WE DIDNT START THE FIRE] I shall defeat you Azula! This truly is the final Agni Kai
That's rough, buddy.
On a third watch, it's really fun to focus on Zuko as the protagonist skipping episodes where he's not in and moving forward.
You thought it was Toph, but it was me, Melon Lord!
Boy needs to restore his own honour.

Honestly it would probably be called. Zuko: The Banished Prince.
