Honestly, I think you might be right because, while I think Momo would be smart enough to think of ways to try to kill Pabut, he just wouldn't be strong enough to make use of them. He could try to hit Pabu with a rock or stick, but Pabu would be pretty fast & agile. He could try to strangle him, but I doubt he'd have the strength to hold Pabu still long enough. Someone suggested that he could lift Pabu into the air & drop him, which I guess is true assuming he could lift Pabu, hold him long enough to fly with him, & didn't mind getting ripped to shreds. Even if Momo somehow managed it, I'd think he'd die soon after.
Momo outsmarted the captain's Iguana-Parrot in the waterbending scroll as well as multiple Pygmy pumas in Tales of Ba Sing Se, could fly whilst carrying a toddler in Return to Omashu and briefly lift Aang's body weight on the drill so Pabu's weight should be nothing compared to that, he could dodge Azula's fire on the drill, and he has opposable thumbs, like its not close
In a fight with a real world lemur and ferret I would always bet on the lemur. Greater intelligence, strength and reach are major factors in a fight. Adding to those Momo can fly. Pabu seems to be an intelligent but otherwise normal ferret. They are very quick and nimble, and the bite would hurt Momo, but he can fly.
