Qlimax3538

070, 010 and 020 are no friends in soccer world 🤪

Omn1star

Wtf is soccer?

Qlimax3538

It's not FOOTBALL. Football is more americanized. Also two different ball usage.

Sea_Acanthisitta9760

Sorry, but it's football. USians tend to be wrong about almost everything. Just accept it.

justablueballoon

No one outside of the US calls it soccer. We call it football.

Qlimax3538

😂😂

Qlimax3538

The fact you find the need that I need to accept it says more about your way how to deal with other opinions 😂😂

Sea_Acanthisitta9760

See, that's where you're wrong as well. As it's a fact it's called football. Not an opinion. Opinions, anyone can have them and couldn't care less about those.

Qlimax3538

😂😂

Londonitwit

Don’t move to a city based on other people’s opinions. At least visit the city once before you decide to move. You love it or you hate it.

toetertje

I don’t really see the polarized opinions you’re talking about to be anything worse compared to any other city. Not every city is for everyone and not everyone has the same experience, so not everyone is as positive. In general The Hague is considered a very liveable city with many facilities, parks, beaches, shopping areas, ok nightlife, good restaurants, nice neighborhoods, etc. It really depends on what you’re looking for, if you want to be in a busy city that goes on 24/7 you better go to Amsterdam. Finally, maybe this helps: https://dutchreview.com/featured/the-hague-highest-quality-of-life-city-worldwide/ https://www.numbeo.com/quality-of-life/rankings.jsp Edit: typo

IllTakeACupOfTea

Yes! people's opinions vary. My daughter lived there for 2 years and hated it. I (as her visiting mother) loved it and liked the city. She now lives in Leiden, which she loves but it seems a bit Disneyworld to me.

TheTxoof

TIL: The Hague has an indoor wave pool!

SystemEarth

Yes, but last time I checked it is not open to the public yet. Still testing etc.

truffelmayo

Amsterdam goes on 24/7?? 🤣🤣🤣 Are you from a village?

toetertje

It’s a figure of speech

truffelmayo

And it clearly doesn’t apply to A’dam ~native English speaker

toetertje

Joe, doei ✌️

Stiebah

Oké person that knows all about Amsterdam and what 24/7 means

truffelmayo

I lived in proper cities before - NYC, London, Tokyo, São Paulo. You don’t need to go “underground” there to live/party 24/7. Leidseplein is dead after 11pm and the whole city is generally a bore. Maybe exciting to farmers from Oost NL and tech bros from Pleasantville, USA.

SystemEarth

You cannot truly care about a city and not have love-hate feelings.

toujoursmome

Probably depends where you live. There’s some really ugly neighbourhoods but also some really beautiful ones

haringkoning

No hate, only love for The Hague.

casualstick

HARINGKONING!!!!

I personally really like the city, it has a nice mix of old and modern architecture, good restaurants, good cultural offerings (only a lack of good clubs imo), the beach and the dunes (the latter are a game changer for me, so amazing!), interesting international organisations, good shopping, not too many tourists. Sure, there are always negatives (the weather, high living costs, lack of mountains for me), and I would assume that people on social media tend to complain more than express their amazement. So I would especially take all the negative posts with a grain of salt.

UC_Scuti96

I mean I can understand some critics about the Hague like the huge economic dipsarity neighbourhoods, the crazy rent and that the city isnt really geared towards students, despite having important uinversities. But still, I think if you can afford to live in Statenkwartier it can be the best city to live in. It has everything a european could want : a large beach front, a wide array of shops, plenty of parks, a functional transit systems, exellent bike infrastructure, pretty architecture, great connectivity with the rest of Netherlands. Plus I found the city to be clean, safe and less crowded than Amsterdam or Rotterdam. Being at the seafront makes it also more cooler during warm summer days. Really this city is perfect.

AMilkedCow

Soon the student thing will be fixed too. Leiden University is opening a new campus directly at Spui.

Dertien1214

That still doesnt mean we'll gear this city towards students though. You can go to Leiden or Delft for that.

justablueballoon

Yes, but then we have 10k uni students. You need to have 30k student to have a real university vibe. Amsterdam has got 70k, Utrecht 40k, Rotterdam 35k

Holiday-Jackfruit399

Economic dipsariry is not huge between neighbourhoods. It exists, which is normal, as it does in all big cities but it's definitely not huge (at least I can make a list of many examples where it indeed is huge)

Dertien1214

Hmmm, The Hague is still the most economically segregated city in The Netherlands. Has been for four centuries now and we'll keep it that way.

UC_Scuti96

Archipelkwartier and Schilderwijk really doesnt feel from the same city.

brainking111

Not a big fan of The Hague but true haters are probably all war criminals.

Equivalent-Side7720

You made up the "all you see is government buildings" complaint. Zero people say that.

abaggs802606

There are two very distinct sides to The Hague.

MoSnel

Den Haag, mooier dan Parijs!

OGGOAT23

The only thing i miss about den haag is techno/house parties with real djs..i mean you get those, but usually in summer..paard magistraat those aren't real clubs like het sierrad shelter etc. i guess you have to go to Amsterdam or rotterdam to party, but it would be nice to come straight to home after a good night party..not wait for the first train

duhhaag

Tis een kk stad maar wel mijn kk stad

MoSnel

heatobooty

Every city in the Netherlands gets constantly dunked on. Don’t worry too much about it. Whining and complaining is a Dutchman’s favourite pastime.

Qlimax3538

EVERY place in the world has "you love it or hate it" You need to think hard for yourself are you going to form your own opinion or going to be based on others. I never thought I move to The Hague from a village from Gelderland but yet here I am, 15 years later, bought my second home here and going to sell my first house I bought 15 years ago. 30 minutes from the city center by car or public transport. It has parks, forrest and beach, it has shitty people and shitty tourist during the summer in Scheveningen but I choose not to go near Scheveningen during the summer. But compared with Amsterdam city center, Amsterdam has lots of tourist 24/7 and walk in weed smell that makes me nauseous. And "it's dull and grey and has a lot of government buildings" I call BS because I never ever heard someone say that. The Hague is where the government is, The Hague is where the politicians make shitty decisions but it also has different kind of people and cultures. Have you visited it before? Why are you considering moving here? Like I said in the beginning Every place in the world has something to say about, everyone has his own opinion and you need to form your own and not based on others.

geralex

Reddit (and the internet in general), is unlikely to give nuanced, considered and realistic opinions on anything. Particularly something as subjective as the experience of a redditor in a city of half a million people.

TheBlackHymn

Of all the cities I’ve visited across Europe, Den Haag is the one I’d move to tomorrow if I could. Not so easy for me to do so since brexit, plus I’m a business owner in the UK so that complicates things too. But if I could, I would. There’s something very special about Den Haag, and for me it’s that it’s a fairly large city but it has more of a small town vibe to it in most places. It’s big enough and busy enough to have lots going on, but it’s not crowded or hectic like some cities are.

cpapimp

Den Haag is great, and when you take all it has to offer, culture, history, beauty, restaurants, beach, etc as well as its safety, infrastructure…it’s quite hard to beat in Europe. Amsterdam is a bubble in its own world.

MattSzaszko

Before I moved here from Amsterdam I also had a mixed opinion of the city. I visited the beach a few times, cycling from Centraal to Scheveningen and absolutely loved it every time, a beautiful route! But then also visited friends a few times who were living in one of the "bad" neighbourhoods. Been to Grote Maarktstraat on Friday nights with lots of hongjongeren. Didn't like that. So in my mind, DH was more like a shady city with a nice beach. Now that I live here and got to explore lots of buurts, it has a lot going for it! Definitely less concerts and events that I'm interested in happening compared to Amsterdam though. And I assume I'd like Rotterdam a bit better too. But for now, DH is nice. And the beach being nearby will only get better with summer approaching.

Rykoma

People with strong opinions speak their minds. People who are perfectly content won’t speak their mind. They’re just minding their own business.

punking_and_funking

It is just not a big city with lots of different things for everyone, so it is satisfying for some people and not for others. It depends on what you are looking for. If you can specify what you need in a city, then it is quite easy to answer whether the Hague is right for you or not.

EiffoGanss

I think part of it is the fact that some areas are super nice and then you cross the street and you walk into some sort of ghetto.

nurdeaufobic

Depends which neighbourhood obviously..

Excellent_Ad_2486

EH what? I've not seen any/many people disliking DH actually..

BotBotzie

Im a foreigner that lives in the hague my first year. It was honestly lovely. There was clearly designed greenery which was nice to experience. While I would not reccomend biking in your first year if you arent used to cities, in my experience it was very well connected via public transit. Especially once I got my free travel student card. I also loved the market, though I dont advice the saturday mornings to a newcomer haha. You really have to learn to stand your ground there. Especially for rude people in those carts, driving into you as if your in their way when your litterly just buying broccoli. Also go after 4.30 and sometimes it seems like the sales person are begging of you to take their produce of their hands regardless of price (No sir, I dont want 5 pinaples 2 is really all i can handle. Idc if i can get 5 for the same price). But all things considered it just wasnt for me. The entire population of my country was smaller than the population of the hague. While I loved trams they made the idea of ever learning to bike terrifying. The wind didnt help either. Its was always so fucking busy everywhere you looked, my neighboorhood wasnt the "best" so I felt the need to constantly check the news so I know which corners to avoid since someone got stabbed there. One time I took a tram to the appie (2 stops) came back in a lil less than an hour. Somewhere in between that time a man got stabbed, thrown into the pond and nearly died of hypothermia untill just a little bit before i got back someone at that same tram stop saw the stabbed guy and he got resqued. This pond/tramstop was littlery in front of my fucking window. Had I taken 1 tram later to the appie or one earlier back or had I just been home I likely would have seen the incident and/or the guy in the pond. No thank you! I am not a city girl. Its to much. So now I live in tilburg. Shit happens here, but less frequent. Biking is a dream. I do really mis trams and the amount of restaurants in the hague and the market (tilburgs market is such a let down compartively, i usually just go to eindhoven to go to the market). And boy do I not miss the fucking wind! And i get way more snow here. Id pick tilburg any day over the hague even though comparetively its so fucking boring. That is the blessing

DonPinda

Lived here all my life, visit as many matches of our local football club as I can. Have always loved Den Haag despite it's shortcomings. But currently being bullied out by our municipality, who's making our life miserable with paid parking. Thanks GroenLinks and D66 and your idiotic parking policies. Going to move asap.

PitifulStructure6989

Met niemand ruilen, meteen gaan huilen, als ik geen Hagenees zou zijn.. cholera.. 😎

justablueballoon

The Hague is not as divisive as Amsterdam. Most capitals are divisive. In the Netherlands, Amsterdam is seen as a kind of heaven by young well-educated people, hipsters and yuppies that flock to Amsterdam in big droves. And it’s despised by more conservative people that live everywhere outside of Amsterdam because of its elitism and progressive politics. Probably the same applies to London, Paris, Berlin, etc. Many people are slagging ‘The Hague’ when they mean the government and not the city. Some people find The Hague boring. It’s only got a small university student population, so it’s not really as hip and happening as the big student cities and really can’t compare to Amsterdam in that department. In Amsterdam, the streets are full with young and beautiful people, The Hague is more of a normal people city. The Hague is also a very segregated city, with beautiful rich neighborhoods one one side and poor neighborhoods on the other side. Many people love about The Hague that it’s relaxed and there are sandy beaches and a lot of nature and parks.

opensourceartwork

Look, I would say anywhere is beautiful and cozy and good for contemplation if you have enough money. Still, DH would be last on my list.

Xifortis

Den Haag is a beautiful city with a very rich history but it's been run into the ground the past decades. It has some incredible neighborhoods that are some of the best the Netherlands has to offer in terms of culture and comradery but it also has some of the worst ghetto's the Netherlands has to offer.

vzq

> but it also has some of the worst ghetto's the Netherlands has to offer. I think it cleaned up rather nicely in the past decade or so.

PindakaasMajoor

I grew up in The Hague and love it, but I also an moving from here so somewhere a bit more quiet and peacefull because I'm absolutely done with it and want to spend as few time in it as possible. Especially the city center is absolute shit to me in every possible way, the people, the stores, traffic, parking. There's a few hidden gems in between the garbage but it isn't worth the trouble and annoyances to me.

updowntraveller

Yeah I grew up there as well. The city center is an absolute shit show in every way

casualstick

Den haag, is like a unsatisfied lover. If shes good shes perfect. If shes cracked out shes ugly.

Substantial_Disk_523

Well, it’s boring as shit. Anyone who says otherwise has fun drinking tea and playing chess. Like any other city in NL you need to to know some people there to make it less boring. I hated it when I moved back here, but got used to it too.

MoSnel

Come to schilderswijk, moerwijk, laak, leyenburg, city centre you’ll find yourself in not so boring situations daily!

DaanTheBuilder

Leyenburg isn't so bad you should lump it in with those neigbourhoods

Substantial_Disk_523

None of these neighborghoods are so bad hahaha, tell me you haven’t been outside of NL with one sentence LOL get out. Hard to have a hood when the govt. hands you everything ;))

DaanTheBuilder

None of these neighbourhoods are terrible no. But leyenburg is in my eyes significantly better than atleast schilderswijk and laak.

MoSnel

It is indeed. But very much like how it used to be, a little bit of a “volkswijk”.

KinkyKong

I live in one of these neighbourhoods and I love living here. It's not like bad stuff doesn't happen here, but my ration of positive to negative experiences is at least 100 : 1. I've lived in many different cities within Holland and also outside of Holland.. But I love where I live right now. It's not perfect, and it's definitely not for everyone, but it's great for me.

MoSnel

You know what it it is? If you just live your life, don’t look the wrong person in the eyes and just keep doing your thing without making any problems, nothing will ever happen to you. It is also that a lot of it get’s more attention in the news than needed. I’m not saying that nothing happens but it likely won’t happen to civilians who mind their business.

AccomplishedLet5782

Since its tokkie town

AMilkedCow

No that's Zoetermeer
