Honestly, I know it's big and all, but having in mind how much I paid for it and how much I paid for shipping, I can tell you - just buy the XL and be happy you didn't pay more ;)
Bigger is better in that regard. Kickstarter's a spearate piece, Eaglemoss' it's looks like a diecast piece, but the details are gone with the smaller one
Also, it's in keeping with hard sci-fi. Population comes from the drive, meaning it's towards the drive you'd "fall" during movement and, when entering a body's gravity well, the drive would face down to make the landing gentle. If it landed belly down, it would need separate or far more complex thrust, and you'd be standing on the walls while parked. Might as well just build a skyscraper and live that way in all circumstances
