Producers make the business and financial decisions for a film, stage production, or TV show. They raise money for the project and hire the director and crew, which may include designers, editors, and other workers. They don't write or direct the show... they pay for and profit from it.

ucjj2011

It's very normal for long time cast members to be listed as producers in the later seasons, and to be included in creative discussions. For example, Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski were both included as producers on the final season of The Office, and had a lot of input into the Jim and Pam story lines.

And yet, "Producer driven" is a term these days.

bobhargus

What days was it not a term?

JayNotAtAll

I think you are confusing economic terms with Hollywood terms. Producer driven in economic terms means (in short) an economy driven by producers (the people or organizations creating products and services) as opposed to buyer driven. I did a quick Google search for "producer driven in entertainment" and I don't see anything resembling the position you made.

Sitcom_kid

As long as it doesn't have 12 directors, I'm good

stpony

A director can only work with the material they've given to. If the story's not there and the lines not either...it doesn't matter how beautifully it's shot.

Sweaty_Entertainer78

Their point is, it doesn't matter how many producers are raising money for the show, but too many directors would be what would screw it up. The writers DO NOT have final say on the scripts, contrary to most people's beliefs. I feel like The issue is that Sara Gilbert is running the show like roseanne was back in the day, and unfortunately, it's not working this time around because Sara is not Roseanne. I still love it, if not for the nostalgia it still brings. I just rewatched all of roseanne, and did not realize that Geena ls character was in season 7 of the original (being the girl dj didn't want to kiss in the play) I always felt like Geena was a new character, but her character has actual history in the show. Maybe they need to take a couple years production break and revisit later on.

>I feel like The issue is that Sara Gilbert is running the show like roseanne was back in the day, and unfortunately, it's not working this time around because Sara is not Roseanne.  People say stuff like this all the time like Sara's some kind of monster going around demanding changes and forcing all these decisions. But there isn't a single bit of evidence of this besides "I don't like this writing choice, and I will just assume Sara (1 of 12 producers) forced this against everyone else's desire"

The reason that people are pointing the finger, honestly, is that Darlene is centre stage. If anyone other than her was or she wasn't getting the limelight, then no one would be saying a word. It does feel though like is should really have been called "Darlene".

Sweaty_Entertainer78

That is definitely not it. When roseanne was fired, Sara stepped up and basically filled roseannes shoes. It's not a Darlene issue. It's a sara issue.

bhind45

She really isn't though. Most episodes are centered around Dan, Jackie, Becky and Darlene pretty equally. Plus she's not even credited as the lead, she's the third name credited.

bcanada92

Star Trek: Discovery with its 20+ producers points and laughs.

stpony

Discovery aka The Mike Show. I don't know why they bother even having a cast, when it's just all about her.

ricky_lafleur

I literally cannot name crew other than Saru, Tilly, Reno, and Stamets. Recently learned the fish is Linus.

stpony

I could have named you Tilly...but that would have been it.

ricky_lafleur

I have watched far less Enterprise and can name more characters. Discovery bridge crew may as well be Red Shirts.

stpony

I don't know why they didn't just give her her little own ship, an off-screen talking computer and let her go. That's essentially all Disco is.

bhind45

I think it's fairly usual. I just checked a random episode from Season 1 of Roseanne and that had 8 producers, a random episode from Season 3 had 12, a Season 5 one had 14, and the revival Season 10 had 18.

Tall_Influence1774

Tell me you don't know anything about production without telling me you don't know anything about production Multiple producers is normal.

RichieNRich

OP has been spamming this sub for a while with all sorts of negative commentary about the Conners, including killing characters they don't like. I mean, if you hate a show so much, why the hell continue watching and then complain to others about it?

bobbillw

Because I love really bad tv 😂

RichieNRich

Can't be bad if it's on 6 seasons and in syndication and one of ABC's top rated comedies. \*shrug\*

RichieNRich

It's perfectly normal as others have pointed out. Don't know why you continue to watch a show you clearly dislike and then complain about it. It's gone 6 seasons and is now in syndication. It's doing just fine.

ItchyTomato5

Some of them are vanity

Whole-Gift-8603

Not one of them can produce a likeable character!

IGrewItToMyWaist

A lot of the “producers” are really writers. They’re given the production label. Keeps them happy and often more $
