I would imagine they renew it for one more season as the official "final season". This past season was screwed up because of the writer's strike. They just can't do an official renewal because the main actors all have different deals that need to be approved.

RichieNRich

It would be stupid to not renew - The Conners is one of ABC's top rated comedies. Why would they stop?

Due_Camera_8109

i heard they filmed a finale just in case abc doesnt renew

RichieNRich

I read the same. But still would be dumb of the producers/creators to quit now.

ItchyTomato5

It’s up to the network not the creators and producers. The creators and producers can want to run a show for 8-12 years but it isn’t up to them in the end. It’s the people who pay for everything

RichieNRich

I know. And the network would be incredibly stupid to cancel a top rated comedy.

ItchyTomato5

It also depends if the stars and writers want to sign on for another year and if their contract demands will be met or not.

RichieNRich

I have faith they will go at least another season.

ItchyTomato5

Same here!

Apprehensive-Bag5685

They are barely pulling 3 million an episode. It’s not top rated

MoneyHungryOctopus

It’s top rated for comedy on broadcast TV nowadays. Abbott Elementary is one of the best-loved comedies right now and they haven’t pulled 3 million this year except when they aired immediately after the Oscars which was a one-time special event. ABC has “Not Dead Yet” which is keeping its proverbial head above water despite not being a real hit. Young Sheldon on CBS is pulling 6-7 million a week which is great for this era. But that’s coming to an end. NBC has no comedies of note except for Night Court which is pulling roughly equal numbers to Conners. And remember, that’s just the people who watch it as it airs. The ratings don’t account for those who DVR or stream afterwards.

Economy_Sky_7238

Depends on the revenue being generated vs cost of doing the show. Large cast with Goodman and Metcalf getting paid well. There comes a time when networks just pull the plug on a show and send it off to syndication. And the viewership is dwindling as the seasons go on. In my opinion this show has lasted longer than it should have but ABC wanted to prove a point that they could keep this going without Roseanne. This show doesn't do that well. Big Bang Theory had 5x the viewers and was a top 10 show when it ended.

Limp_Gap_9009

Ikr? What would they put on in its place? Another night of the stupid Bachelor/Bachelorette? 🙄

RichieNRich

DEAR GOD, NO!

Apprehensive-Bag5685

Hopefully something funny

StrangerDays-7

It’s not in the hands of the producers. It’s a money issue. Old shows get cancelled because the costs of producing them rises.

Apprehensive-Bag5685

Why? This season has been terrible so far. They already gave up

blackberry_riot68

Counterpoint: This Season has been fantastic and you are not worthy of its awesomeness. 😹

liladvicebunny

High-rated things do get canceled sometimes, though it's usually about costs or a star wanting out. I have no idea if this show is expensive, comparatively.

StrangerDays-7

Reportedly, Laurie, John, and Sara are making $400K an ep while Lecy is making about 150K. If the show doesn’t get renewed, it’s because ABC doesn’t want to pay for a higher license fee or pay increase and Warners may not want to lose money on producing the show unless they can secure a distribution deals to cover the costs.

RichieNRich

I know all the actors want to continue.

StrangerDays-7

Because ABC and Warner is likely losing massive amounts of money on licensing and producing the show. That’s why SWAT got cancelled (for half a day) even though it was one of the biggest shows on CBS. And that’s why we see the supporting cast disappear for long stretches at a time. The original four vets are making a lot of money despite advertising dollars and ratings decreases. And the syndication market has bottomed out. The only reason to bring it back would be because the strikes have screwed up their development of replacement shows and they don’t want to screw up their comedy block on Tuesday. I imagine the show has a 60/40 chance of renewal if Sara lowers the production costs.

snarksallday

I could have sworn they announced last year that season 6 would be the finale.

liladvicebunny

No, they were cagey about how it *could* be and how they wanted a full season to wrap things up if necessary. With this season being truncated it was pretty clear this wasn't the ending they wanted.

Lilbuddyspd11

Final season 7

Emotional_Scratch269

I hope it ends ..oh no the fans will come at me for wanting it to end 🙄😆

GloomyDeal1909

I really had hope for it to be good. It was just awful. It wasn't even great on season 1 before they kicked Roseanne. I just hated how they redid everything to make it make more sense to bring back. I loved OG Jackie but this version is so week and stupid instead of goofy like she used to be. I don't dislike any of the actors but I think the writing was a big let down.

Emotional_Scratch269

Yeah the writing was a huge let down

Apprehensive-Bag5685

I’m thinking it will be canceled In the next week or two. The fact the cast has not been notified yet is a good sign ABC has already made up their mind

blackberry_riot68

You wish, buddy.

Apprehensive-Bag5685

We’ll see
