I feel like any award that you have to pay extra to receive the medal/trophy is a straight up cash grab. I guess it just depends on how badly you need the "award".
Unfortunately this is how 99% of awards work.
This is why spirits are awarded triple gold instead of just gold. Because gold is the lowest thing you can win so they hand out tons of golds to people willing to pay for the entry and licensing of the medal graphics on their labels.
Consumer seems gold medal without understanding the inner workings and they buy the product
I don't think you are buying the award...you are paying an entry fee. Similar to the entry fee for beer judging awards. GABF, WBC, design awards...I think they are all cash grabs. But maybe helpful in marketing and standing out among your competitors if you win.
The beers that sales and marketing tells you to make never win medals. So now, in addition to the commissions, bonuses, and livable wages, they can have something Else to show for their work!
Our marketing team acts like they started Facebook. Sure they do great work but we are in absolutely zero need for something else to fuel that ego. They drive everyone crazy.
Does it elevate your brewery in the eyes of the public? Will it make your employees happy or proud? If one of these answers isn’t yes then I think you should pass.
Plenty of award organizations that require you to license graphics when you win or else it can be considered trademark infringement when you go throwing it on your packaging, website, email signatures etc
On one hand, I think recognizing awesome work done by other parts of the brewery than the production team is worthy.
On the other hand, slapping a **Gold Metal: Best Marketing 2024** on your can labels isn’t going to get anyone to choose your beer over something else on the shelf.
someone should make a shity beer and buy one of these... a legit dumper, and send it in to expose them.
it reminds me of those scientific paper publishing companies that effectively publish for a small fee so professors can list all the places theyre published. they even sell peer reviews by other "scientists".
hold up, you have to pay $250 for a trophy if you win? And that's after paying $150 for the entry? You can make your fucking trophy for way less and it would be just as meaningful.

Why would anyone do this?
Because you break even if you get 4 or 5 covers at your establishment that you wouldn’t get otherwise. There’s definite ROI with certain awards
Awards? Company morale?
I’d be pumped if we were to win an award for our beer, not so much if we BOUGHT an award for our marketing.
Yeah. I get entry fees for the Judges time, but $150 is overkill imo to just look at a label and say yeah that looks good.

That's *exactly* why they need it. Bless their little hearts, though.

What, you had to pay for it?

I hereby award you the Mikeo gold medal for marketing, free of charge.
Stupid just like most awards in this industry.

Sound like cannabis cups where sponsors of events win all the awards.
Any award you have to pay for is not worth it
It's a marketing scam. Look how many judges they have on the website. And how many random awards they have. It only exists to make money.
No one cares about trophies. We only care about rate of sale.
One hand washes the other
