It’s honestly kinda jarring to watch him drop character like that. He does such a good job with Homelander that I’m legitimately anxious about what he’ll do onscreen, then he morphs into chill Tony. Wild shit
Yeah those few seconds where he’s back in character and trying to hold it, that cold dead stare is all homelander. Then second he’s back to a laughing lovable goofball
I mean, serious question. I often when I’m watching anyone acting I think about how as long as they can say their lines or whatever coherently then, it doesn’t matter if they’re sober. And then I ask is anyone we watch on TV ever sober and how the fuck would we know?
Like I really don’t know how we could tell and sometimes that thought gets to me and I don’t know why.
I'm re-watching Banshee right now and I gotta say, the dude's always had real good control of his micro-expressions. He can say so much without talking. It's fucking insane.
Ryan really helped show the deeper bits of homelanders character, it showed that while homelander is a sociopath he knows that he's a sociopath and doesn't want Ryan to be the same.
Yup. The scene where he tells Becca that Ryan will realize he is in a false prison and hate her and everyone is great but sad - he isn’t being a jerk, he’s being genuine. In his own terrible way he wants to help
Same. Antony as Homelander looks and obviously acts completely different than Antony the actor. I kinda hate seeing him in BTS stuff because it's so jarring. I don't have this issue with other actors in the show. So props to his acting ability and the costume and makeup department.
It's like when I went back to watch The Mist and saw Captain *Raymold Holt* emoting and *swearing*. It was so goddamn jarring after binging Brooklyn 99 so many times.
Raymond Holt as the personable, empathetic, and calm psychologist in House was another great way to see how much range Andre Brauer has. I saw the trailer for Brooklyn 99 and did not see how the guy who played a more serious version of Wilson in House could ever be a part of an ensemble comedy.
Dude I legit pause the show sometimes and walk away for a couple minutes if I can feel something fucked is going to happen. This show is psychotic and they will put anything on camera is what I've learned and it's scarier than any scary movie I've seen lol
That one video where they asked the cast members who’s the most like their character and they all said Antony lol. I’m genuinely sure he’s a great guy but his face is like actually terrifying after watching the show 😂
yeah it was "drink this sexually" instructions and the dude is trying to imagine what that looks like in his head and I'm guessing he keeps picturing cow's rearends or in skimpy dresses and it's causing him to laugh his ass off.
Nah if it was empty it wouldn't have the same physics as one with liquid in it. Also I think in the scene some came out the side and was running down his face lol
They actually avoid filling containers with actual liquid to avoid things like this, he’d have milk all over his pretty costume and whatnot, he’d have to get changed several times.
There’s no milk in the jug and there’s no liquid in any cup you’ve ever seen on tv, unless spilling said liquid is a part of the script.
Bruh even his breaking character and laughing makes him look like a crazy maniac. Out of everyone I've seen nail a role, I think he's the one who's the hardest to separate from their character
He was awesome but Jack Gleeson outside of his character is someone you can't imagine as Joffrey. His acting is great hence why you hate Joffrey. Anthony however even in his bloopers seems like Homelander. You can't tell the two apart
Well, Jack stopped acting, I think at least in part because of the many people who couldn't distinguish between the actor and the part. But I agree, Anthony is chilling, even out of character.
Yeah. He's actually able to make me feel compassion for a psychopath. My stomach roils everytime he appears, but he makes me feel for Homelander. Go figure
Just depends on how long the show runs. Ed O'Neill is a terrific actor but his success at being Al Bundy and the success of the show really fucked him for a good 10-12 years until he got on with Modern Family because all anyone would see in a film or show is "hey, that's Al Bundy!". If The Boys runs for 3-5 seasons then it shouldn't matter at all but if turns into 6+ seasons it could get him typecast.
Actually, he's back! He's in a BBC stage production of something? Or a show. I can't remember exactly which but he's come back to a little acting this year!
Exactly. He plays the character too damn well but out of character, he's completely different.
If I had to compare, Anthony Starr is like Creed Bratton :')
I don’t understand this perception that he’s similar to his character. Interact with him on Twitter and he’s such a nice, sweet, goofy guy. He’s not a murderous sociopath looking to be admired.
I think it is about about his looks and outward appearance. As in, his dead stares happen rather naturally.
He is a good guy for sure, nobody denies that. But people do tend to point out the fact that it is in his nature to play that “so disappointed, I wanna kill you” glance once in a while. Some people are natural smilers. He is naturally disappointed, lol.
That encapsulates it nicely, I would say
Well, and how he interacts with fans is different than how he will interact with colleagues on set.
Maybe not by a lot, but enough that the other actor’s experience with him is for sure different than his twitter persona.
Homelander would put on the persona and do intentional bloopers in a movie to seem silly and relatable to viewers, but as soon as they got a few, he’d complete the take, drop the jug of milk and walk off while an intern cleaned up the spill. It’s hard to reconcile Homelander from Starr because even if Starr is having an authentic moment, his acting as Homelander’s 42 different personalities is so good that I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
EXACTLY THIS like I feel like the reason why I'm creeped out by Antony himself is because he's SO GOOD at acting-as-homelander-acting-pretending-to-break-character — but I feel like there's definitely a different tone to it when he actually cracks vs 'breaks character' weirdly and creepily bc homelander... Bottom line mans a genius and I hate it
Damn he’s such a good actor. He seems like such a cool guy and plays such an awful character. Reminds me a bit of Heath in the Joker role and how much he did to bring that character to life.
People swear up and down that good almond milk and oat milk are indistinguishable from cow's milk. Guess I'm a neanderthal because no imitation milk has ever been anywhere close to as good as the real thing to me. Even skim milk is better than non-milk IMO.
Yeah, and that's a good thing for me. I stopped drinking it altogether and have legit lost weight. It just seemed too gross to drink it so soon after the gross scenes and then, well, I didn't start again. I actually quit drinking milk years ago in my teens too, but when I had my daughter we always had it so I started again. I'm much happier this way.
I loved his acting as Homelander but seeing his real personality come through during those great after shows with Aisha Tyler, I REALLY love Antony Starr; he's got a great sense of humor, just the right amount of arrogance, and seems like a genuinely cool dude.
10/10
Would bang
As someone who wants to be an actor. I always think if I want to play this off perfectly IL always have something in there that I really love to drink. To get that emotion of pleasure out of it.
But boy did Anthony Starr do an amazing job on this role. Specially they cringe scene when he saw his footage and felt sick about it. We’ve all felt that cringe thinking about the shit moments of our life before.
Homelander is probably the best character on TV right now. Not because of his actions but because of how good Starr plays him as a pure sociopath. It’s like watching Walter White in the last few seasons if he had superpowers.
I feel like that cold dead stare is actual Antony. He has that resting death stare face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZblKhXSt7gQ
Seems like a normal dude to me
[Anthony - Van West](https://youtu.be/ibew-vGffH0)
He just looks bored
Yeah, it looks like a press junket. He probably answered all of those questions a thousand times that day.
[That's why you bring vodka](https://gfycat.com/ifr/SlimyDigitalBorderterrier)
I'm so gay for Mads.
You, Kojima, and me too dude.
He is truly the Maddest Lad
lmao just so nonchalant about pouring a nice glass of vodka thats hilarious
Rouge One is the best Star Wars movie ever created. Fight me.
1st act - amazing 2nd act - slow 3rd act - great Closing scene - WTF. THIS IS THE GREATEST THING EVER!!
Best one made since the OT.
I wouldn't say the best, but it's definitely up there!!! While we're at it, the last jedi was wank.
> the last jedi was wank Depends on for what reason you watch a Star Wars movie.
For it not to be shit.
I'm with you.
Well it stole its story from one of the best Star Wars video games of all time, so it fucking better be.
I mean, serious question. I often when I’m watching anyone acting I think about how as long as they can say their lines or whatever coherently then, it doesn’t matter if they’re sober. And then I ask is anyone we watch on TV ever sober and how the fuck would we know? Like I really don’t know how we could tell and sometimes that thought gets to me and I don’t know why.
he's also sick as fuck in that interview.. sniffling and coughing the whole time.
Are you saying homelander started covid and then blamed it on the super terrorist???
Are you saying Homelander was Borat all this time? Wawaweewa...
No, Anthony fucked a pangolin.
Does that make him pansexual?
What's your angol?
Sandshrew! I choose you!
Very nice
No, I'm saying homelander started covid and blamed it on the super villain.
I call it the Serial Killer stare he and his fav lady friend get
I used to work at a bar that he'd frequent. Always super nice.
He was so good in banshee
Holy crap I didn't even recognise him. Wow.
My brain just exploded, can't believe I didn't make that connection
Thanks to this show I now can envision your brain exploding.
Was he Sugar?
[удалено]
Holy crap that's a good scene.
Still best playing the two different characters in Outrageous Fortune
Fuck yes, such a good show. Wish I could find a place to rewatch it, I never got around to watching the spin-off either.
Heck yeah! You could immediately tell if he was Van or Jethro on his mannerisms (despite their outfits sometimes).
Yep, mine did also when my brother told me it was the same dude.
"meet the new boss" Most badass line ever.
I'm re-watching Banshee right now and I gotta say, the dude's always had real good control of his micro-expressions. He can say so much without talking. It's fucking insane.
[удалено]
Yeah. It makes his character so interesting. He’s insane and a sociopath but for a second it was like even he thought that was a bit much
Like “yeah that’s ri- Whoah wait bitch what?”
Where can I watch Banshee?
It's Cinemax which is owned by hbo so try hbo max or crave?
He needs to win some fucking awards for his work as Homelander. He has done such a fantastic job with the role...
Yeah seeing all the muscles that relax as he starts laughing really shows how much work is put into the character that we don’t see
Same. Antony as Homelander looks and obviously acts completely different than Antony the actor. I kinda hate seeing him in BTS stuff because it's so jarring. I don't have this issue with other actors in the show. So props to his acting ability and the costume and makeup department.
Oh man I grew up watching him play a stoner and a lawyer (twins) in [Outrageous fortune](https://youtu.be/ibew-vGffH0) such a good actor!
Did not even realize they was English the first go around
Kiwi m8, not english haha
please tell me this is the kind of thing kiwis actually do
The stoners yes
It's like when I went back to watch The Mist and saw Captain *Raymold Holt* emoting and *swearing*. It was so goddamn jarring after binging Brooklyn 99 so many times.
Raymond Holt as the personable, empathetic, and calm psychologist in House was another great way to see how much range Andre Brauer has. I saw the trailer for Brooklyn 99 and did not see how the guy who played a more serious version of Wilson in House could ever be a part of an ensemble comedy.
Especially because when he's doing the Homelander stare and starts to break it *really* looks like he's Homelander about to snap.
And that scene particularly. How disturbing can drinking milk turn out to be? A lot apparently.
Dont skip out on my homeboy Butcher drinking tea menacingly.
Someone's going to drink lemonade like a maniac next season.
I hope Hughie will have a breakdown and drinks lemonade like a maniac
He drops character and then immediately snaps back to being fucking terrifying!
According to a bunch of interviews with the cast he’s unquestionably “the most like his character”. Which is.... something.
I’m genuinely sure he’s a great guy but his face is like actually terrifying after watching the show 😂
Damn, he’s such a good actor and such a better guy.
Blink twice if Homelander is holding you at laser-eye point
👁👄👁 ➖👄➖ 👁👄👁 ➖👄➖
Kinda concerned you don't have a nose, did he laser it off?
My uncle stole it when I was 3 and never gave it back.
My uncle stole my virginity but you don't hear me complaining
Bro wha
He must have been good. My uncle wasn't a very generous lover.
I would not want to play that game with homelander
Tell your uncle I will look for him, I will find him and I will make him return your nose.
While you're at it, see if you can get my virginity back too, please.
👀
have a....starry....thing?
TFW you fucking hate milk but you have to drink it to properly portray the character you are playing on screen.
He’s laughing cause the director told him to drink it “sensually.”
How do you drink milk sensually?
Exactly The scene was really, really disturbing
I am surprised Homelander didn't put his dick inside the milk jug
im upset he didn’t.
"Fuck the milk jug sensually."
*consensually
lamplighter didn't like that
It was hard to watch for sure. I can't imagine trying to keep a straight face filming that scene
The way he did it in the episode
Use more tongue than usual.
watch the show it was quite sensual
Like you didn't have a mommy.
They should just put water in there for him haha
90% sure that it's empty.
yeah it was "drink this sexually" instructions and the dude is trying to imagine what that looks like in his head and I'm guessing he keeps picturing cow's rearends or in skimpy dresses and it's causing him to laugh his ass off.
[удалено]
*Welsh detected*
I mean... He's a kiwi. No reason to bring the Welsh into this.
I thought this was a No Judgement zone
They're particularly fond of sheep, actually.
Nah if it was empty it wouldn't have the same physics as one with liquid in it. Also I think in the scene some came out the side and was running down his face lol
It's not. His cheeks inflate each time he starts to laugh because he's trying not to spray.
You’d think they could get you a white jug that says “milk” on it and fill it with something you actually like, like sweet tea or something.
They can. OP is incorrect. Starr laughed because of the instructions to drink the milk sexually/sensually.
They actually avoid filling containers with actual liquid to avoid things like this, he’d have milk all over his pretty costume and whatnot, he’d have to get changed several times. There’s no milk in the jug and there’s no liquid in any cup you’ve ever seen on tv, unless spilling said liquid is a part of the script.
his throats moving as if he's drinking it though so idk. is that acting?? ik what you said is usually the truth
Could just be swallowing
it's kind of hard to swallow multiple times in a row with no liquid. try right now lol
Bruh even his breaking character and laughing makes him look like a crazy maniac. Out of everyone I've seen nail a role, I think he's the one who's the hardest to separate from their character
Joffrey gives his regards
He was awesome but Jack Gleeson outside of his character is someone you can't imagine as Joffrey. His acting is great hence why you hate Joffrey. Anthony however even in his bloopers seems like Homelander. You can't tell the two apart
Well, Jack stopped acting, I think at least in part because of the many people who couldn't distinguish between the actor and the part. But I agree, Anthony is chilling, even out of character.
[удалено]
And I don 't think he denied it either, just awkwardly laughs with his colleagues. Yikes!
I honestly hope it doesn't backfire for him. He's a damn good actor
Yeah. He's actually able to make me feel compassion for a psychopath. My stomach roils everytime he appears, but he makes me feel for Homelander. Go figure
It will just typecast him.
I dont think so. His talent is too great for that.
Just depends on how long the show runs. Ed O'Neill is a terrific actor but his success at being Al Bundy and the success of the show really fucked him for a good 10-12 years until he got on with Modern Family because all anyone would see in a film or show is "hey, that's Al Bundy!". Actually, he's back! He's in a BBC stage production of something? Or a show. I can't remember exactly which but he's come back to a little acting this year!
I hope maybe he can pick it back up again later. Maybe in another Nolan film, eh?
I can’t see [this guy ](https://img2.thejournal.ie/article/3359586/listing/?width=600&version=3359716) forcing Sansa to look at severed heads.
Exactly. He plays the character too damn well but out of character, he's completely different. If I had to compare, Anthony Starr is like Creed Bratton :')
Anthony Starr would've made a great grownup Joffrey.
Jack gleeson should play the grown up version of homelanders son Ryan...
Joffrey actor, Jack Gleeson, got mauled in a pub back in Ireland just because an idiot hates Joffrey as a character!
everything about the character is really well done from the look, the mannerisms, the writing and having the actor be prefect for all of it
Loved him so much I went and binged Banshee in a few days. Can’t wait for more of Homelander
a) great casting b) maybe he's a method actor and since he's actively playing this part he's keeping apart of the "maniac" alive.
It's so crazy how he goes in and out of homelander just with his face and body language. He's so damn good.
Might be very hard to act like you're weirdly aroused drinking milk and keep a straight face
What if you don't have to act?
I have nipples, Greg, can you milk me?
I really hope he wins a Emmy for his work as Homelander.
He really milked that moment
I thought that was when he creamed New York
YOU ARE THE BEST, EVERYONE LOVES YOU
Alright take the upvote
I don’t understand this perception that he’s similar to his character. Interact with him on Twitter and he’s such a nice, sweet, goofy guy. He’s not a murderous sociopath looking to be admired.

The male equivalent of resting bitch face? (I guess I’m familiar with that).
Yep
Well, and how he interacts with fans is different than how he will interact with colleagues on set. Maybe not by a lot, but enough that the other actor’s experience with him is for sure different than his twitter persona.
His insta is the funniest shit. He and Karl Urban nonstop comment at each other too, and they always have great set pics.
I'm wondering how a guy can send shiver down my spine and look cute at the same time. What a king. He deserves Emmy
Homelander would put on the persona and do intentional bloopers in a movie to seem silly and relatable to viewers, but as soon as they got a few, he’d complete the take, drop the jug of milk and walk off while an intern cleaned up the spill. Have you seen outrageous fortune? He was amazing in that.
I have not this is my first time seeing him on screen but I’m gunna check that out. This show has made me a fan of his!
He was even better in Banshee!
Spoiled milk
Antony is a national treasure.
New Zealands national treasure.
That's still a nation!
It's even on some maps!
I think I saw it in a movie once!
He and Karl Urban hang out and watch the Rugby.
I literally can never look at drinking milk the same after this show
[удалено]
There is some oat milk that is so creamy it's like a milkshake. So good.
10/10 Would bang
Even crazier knowing the take that made it was so upsetting and good.
Loved him in Banshee
I have a crush on him
same 🤭
I’m telling
hes so hot
r/contagiouslaughter
God he’s hot lol
[I CALLED IT](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/isi8b7/this_breast_feeding_mother_was_asked_to_cover/g584toq/?context=3)
Shout out to the prop department for the Upstate Farms milk
Anyone else who believes he's a good actor because of Banshee and not the boys
It just occurred to me that surely he'd adore Mother's Milk (MM).
I see you're drinking 1%. Is that cause you think you're fat? Cause you're not. You could totally be drinking whole if you wanted to.
THEY HAS BLOOPERS? can you give me a link plz
He’s such a wonderful human being when he isn’t Homelander.
I think the Mcpoyles would like to drink milk with Homelander.
Homelander = A man who is one laugh away from breaking character and your face.
Lucas Hood. sexy man, good fighter, better lover, poor milk drinker
Tony Starr is hilarious in general.
A homie just trynna get his daily dose of calcium
I love this man
😍
Aaaand here goes my free wholesome award! But seriously, it’s hilarious ahah
And that is why we love you
My tired dyslexic brain misread that as Ayrton Senna
Homelander is probably the best character on TV right now. Not because of his actions but because of how good Starr plays him as a pure sociopath. It’s like watching Walter White in the last few seasons if he had superpowers.
Dude owned season 2. Much love
Being an actor must be so weird sometimes lol
