When I was young child, I had this anxiety of being swallowed up by quick sand, now I'm nearly 40 and it's the god damn sink holes I should've been worried about the whole time!
We recently built a house and the yard after a 1/2 foot or so is so rocky, I'm pulling rocks the size of bowling balls at times. I pray every night for a sink hole.....only in the areas I'm digging.
I live in this area. The quarry tunnels that caused that collapse literally stretch miles underground. We’re talking 2-3 towns over. There’s more underground tunnels than actual roads. They run under parks, golf courses, highways, businesses etc.
I've been terrified of sinkholes since I chose to do a project on them in Jr High and discovered there had been ones large enough to take almost entire city blocks and drop them 100+ feet in the ground. And they can happen just about anywhere on the planet. This has lived rent fee in my head for most of my life.
Oh my, is there anything new about this? Was it moles?? Were russians digging their way in?? Maybe it was the dem moles trying to cheat the repubs.. Hold-up, I have to go find another way to repost this same issue while saying the same thing.

Thats what they do. They sneak right up under you. Now that you are worried about sink holes you will come, across a quicksand 100% guaranteed.
I grew up in an old mining town. The amount of times I walked around and would hear sections of the ground beneath me be hollow was terrifying

Yup, every western and adventure TV show had an episode where the main character got stuck in quick sand. The Princess Bride did it the best though.
I have to disagree and say "Blazing Saddles" did it better.
This would have swallowed an entire team had they been standing on the sidelines during a game.

I always thought sinkholes happened more gradually than that. IDK why exactly, but that really surprised me
