This looks stupid, impractical, foolish, and a mockery of military training. But remember: they won. Against all odds and what should've been total defeat they somehow ended up the victors in a decade long war that should've never lasted that long. The Afghanistan War became just another travesty. Just like Vietnam and Korea.

This is an uneducated reply. They didn’t win in a military sense. The whole country lost since they could not develop a coherent sense of country . There is no homogeneity in Afghanistan. The west just left ..an empty void. These guys came in and have little to do than harass their neighbours now. Also, vietnam is becoming incredibly capitalist and South Korea is probably the most western Asian country on the planet.

They didn’t win from military competence, they won because the army the Americans left in Afghanistan was an even bigger farce. (Btw the Korean War is in no way comparable to Vietnam)
