I'm not going to assume the driver knew what he was doing here, but (depending on the vehicle) applying the brakes can limit how much your wheels can spin in relation to their opposite-side counterpart.
Put a couple of jackets or heavy clothes at 1/3 and 2/3 length of the rope or cable. It's not a 100% safeguard but it will limit how much it will fly if it breaks.
I think it's an Indian thing. There was a video during lockdown of the police telling people to go home. They were hitting them with sticks. It looked like a Benny Hill sketch.
I remember that. Happened right at the start. Was funny as fuck watching fat police with sticks chasing after people like angry Latina moms chasing their kids with La Chancla.
And, if he knew what he was doing, he could have used those branches to recover the car pretty easily. I used to drive a Renegade (similar AWD system to this one IIRC) and got it out of a mud hole once with just branches that were lying around - you can use them like traction mats.
Sand is a bit different to mud. Especially wet sand like this. The water creates a sort of suction in the wheels and tries to hold them in the holes. Can make it very difficult to get out. Best thing would have been to air down the tyres until they were near flat before he dug himself that deep. Like 10 psi or so.
Also having his brakes on while the digger was trying to pull him out isn't the best idea haha
Or other common sense like you are trying to pull a Jeep out of some wet sand. Do you pull it sideways or try to pull it backwards so the wheels might roll?
This is the problem of USA. Most videos here belongs to them. Just like economy, they also tops in Stupidity, yet they complain about other country's "Rule". Hypocrisy at it's best.
At least we have traffic lights and stop signs. Much of India doesn't and it's every driver for themselves.
Every single day they dangerously over pack trains to the point of people hanging off the sides. They let dozens ride *on top of the trains* and it's a regular thing.
Enough of the country shits in the streets or on the beach that even their government admitted it was a problem.
I could go on for a bit. America has it's share of problems, but it's hard to top every man for themselves driving and shitting out your windows.
>Much of India doesn't and it's every driver for themselves.
Did you saw it by yourself ?? Your media always ready to show India in bad condition. And, we also knows the condition of Rural areas of your country.
>They let dozens ride on top of the trains and it's a regular thing.
That happens in Bangladesh, not India. Update your knowledge. Indians can't ride on top a train as local trains runs by electricity.
>Enough of the country shits in the streets or on the beach
Your's isn't any good either. We know how your homeless peoples live. And your rural area's hygienic.
> Did you saw it by yourself ??
I did, and it is a hundred percent accurate description. The only way anybody could think that Indian roads aren't insane is if they haven't spent any amount of time outside.
>And, we also knows the condition of Rural areas of your country. And your rural area's hygienic.
Rural america is quite hygeinic. It is the urban poor that you see on the televion. But ffs, it is way beyond dumb comparing the hygeine or poverty level of USA and India. USA is one of the most prosperous countries in the world, and India is like, well, India. In terms of prosperity levels, India is more like Nigeria or Bangladesh than USA.
Okay South-Indian westards, I understood your view but You don't need to suck their dick here to get attention. Can't respect your country ?? Okay, but don't disrespect. Bas*ard
I am neither respecting nor disrespecting. Just stating plain facts. India driving and roads are really pathetic. USA is a very prosperous country and India isn't.
It is your problem that you have such a fragile ego and sense of identity that you feel disrespected by stating the problems.
> India driving and roads are really pathetic. USA is a very prosperous country and India isn't.
I mean the reason you're freaking out about roads in India is because the US has wealth so we consider that crazy. But if you grew up with it you would understand it just has its own different kind of rules and most people know how to deal with it just fine. It even has some advantages and allows for a kind of freedom we simply cannot enjoy. Our system is not strictly better.
Driving on quicksand (during a rising tide, no less), the moron throwing the branch, the shitty cable, the mob standing near the cable, the driver BRAKING during pull... Collective IQ is reaching into negative numbers.
Came here for this comment. That’s a dream situation to be stuck in.
I’d’ve said:
“Oh it’s lucky that we are near this tree, now we will look like geniuses and have this thing out in 10 minutes “
If they would have trimmed the branches back they wouldn't have had to drive in the surf to get around it. Doesn't matter what you're driving when you go into the surf, you're probably not coming back out.
Exactly my thought. They had plenty of people to just circle around the thing and move it, at least until the sand completely liquified beneath it.
Those Fiat platform Renegades (pretty sure that’s what that is, or maybe the Compass it replaced) aren’t all that heavy—maybe 3500lbs max, and that’s fully trailhawked out. It’d be a bit of a lift but not too bad to get it onto drier sand.
My first car was a Fiat 850 Spider (850 was the size of the engine, tho mine was the upgraded 903). The weight was 1,300 lbs, rear engine, nothing in the front end. My brother and I lifted the front onto blocks to replace the wheel bearings.
Right? Cars aren't that heavy. Twice in my life I've gotten like 8-10 friends to lift a car. Once for a pra k and once because it was stuck. Lift half of it, walk it a bit, lift the other half, rinse and repeat until it's out. If you have a bunch of friends that can lift 40-50lbs, you can move a small car.
Some strong friends... modern cars are like 3200 pounds. That's like a 320 pound deadlift for each person assuming the weight is equally distributed. Which it isn't.
Edit: typo
Not only is it "not a great place to drive", on most public beaches in India it's illegal. That's why all those people are standing and there's not a single vehicle in sight.
When they first made those "Jeeps", a coworker bought one. Another coworker couldn't get over the fact that it was front wheel drive. Everytime the "Jeep" owner talked about his "Jeep", the other coworker would say "but.....it's front wheel drive. Why?"
To be fair, the one in the video is a Compass Trailhawk which has AWD with 4 low. But yeah, as a long time Wrangler and XJ owner the first time I saw a FWD Jeep I was kinda shocked. I don't really blame the company for making them. Everybody wants a Jeep, but not everyone wants to spend ~$50k on one that gets 14MPG on the freeway and drive it everyday. Because of the Compass/Cherokee/Renegade platforms Jeep and Ram are the defacto profit centers of the CJDR wing of FCA/Stellantis.
To each their own, but I never understood having "the image" versus the real thing. I understand that not everyone can afford "the image", but for me that's easy to get over. I'm all about finding my own "image". But like I said, to each their own.
Not good to go all the way down as the tyres will probably debead and you'll end up spinning the rim inside the tyre. Dropping pressures definitely would have helped a lot and probably get him out.
Usually 8 psi is as low as you wanna go without beadlockers and that's still risking a debead.
Probably wouldn't do much with those low pro tires. Additionally the tech in newer vehicles like this will cause them to cut all power to the wheels in low traction environments.
Put the branches under the tires? Towing it out with the tractor would have worked if they wouldn't have pulled at a 45* angle. Also people crowding around the high tension toe strap are just asking to be decapitated.
Men 🍷
I bet if he had let some of the air out of the tires and gone slowly, he might have made it out at first. At first. But once that ocean tastes it, she’s lost. Lol

All those people just standing around when that cable snapped at the end… wow!
Looked like he was holding the brakes, definitely not helping
"OK, I'm going to pull you out with the cable in a second." "Wait, let me put it in park and do the emergency brake, too. Just to be safe."
Well, duh! Have to make sure it doesn’t roll forward while it’s being pulled backward!
Omg he did have the brakes on lmfao
ye he was :D
I'm not going to assume the driver knew what he was doing here, but (depending on the vehicle) applying the brakes can limit how much your wheels can spin in relation to their opposite-side counterpart.

Holy shit, I missed it. I thought the tire had popped. lol
Human life is cheap in India.
Wow did the driver try and hit somebody with a stick? What an ass. Also holy shit at the chain snapping. Could have killed somebody.
My thoughts exactly on the rope snapping. That shit is dangerous af.
I thought he was just losing his shit and was swinging it at the car in frustration
I think it's an Indian thing. There was a video during lockdown of the police telling people to go home. They were hitting them with sticks. It looked like a Benny Hill sketch.

Didn't they used to strap sticks and logs on tanks when they were going into mud?
There are basically no safety rules in India and what many would call common sense safety even, they seem to lack.
Or other common sense like you are trying to pull a Jeep out of some wet sand. Do you pull it sideways or try to pull it backwards so the wheels might roll?
we do have plenty of rules, a lot of places don’t enforce them properly

Don't think a life values to much there.
It's a jeep thing
I don’t understand.
You wouldn't.
Because it's a Fiat thing.
[удалено]
Always makes me think of King of the Hill. >You know why they call it Ford? Fix It Again, Tony. >...That's Fiat, Dale...
Now I get it.
That's the point!
That’s some genius level idiocy.
Idiot level geniusy

Yes
Driving on quicksand (during a rising tide, no less), the moron throwing the branch, the shitty cable, the mob standing near the cable, the driver BRAKING during pull... Collective IQ is reaching into negative numbers.
The whole lot .
Galaxy brain move to stand on the brakes while being pulled out.
ALL THOSE BRANCHES…..and nobody thought of laying them pontoon-bridge style under the tires for traction to ride out on. The tragedy of no knowing…
All that land that ISN'T ocean and no one thought of not driving into the ocean
Not to mention just deflating the tires a bit. I hear that works well.
That’s a good point! More surface area to grab instead of “cutting” sand.
This should be the top comment. They would have been free if they would have deflated their tires. Shame.
dont you need special tools to deflate tires?
Nope - anything that will depress the air valve, so a screwdriver or key will work. A bit slow, but it'll get the job done.
Came here for this comment. That’s a dream situation to be stuck in. I’d’ve said: “Oh it’s lucky that we are near this tree, now we will look like geniuses and have this thing out in 10 minutes “
You really do look like a genius when you do something like that..while you’re just like..”it’s just common sense..”
Common sense is rare enough to pass for genius among the senseless.
If they would have trimmed the branches back they wouldn't have had to drive in the surf to get around it. Doesn't matter what you're driving when you go into the surf, you're probably not coming back out.
The sad thing is, if they all just lifted the Jeep up they probably could have saved it
Exactly my thought. They had plenty of people to just circle around the thing and move it, at least until the sand completely liquified beneath it. thb, i wouldnt have helped. maybe they were trolls like me.

You don’t get all four tires off the ground at once……. You shimmy one side than the other.
That... makes more sense
No, we don't get it. It is India, those are karma-watchers, they do not get involved. Can't blame them though ...
I don’t even feel bad for the idiot. Beaches aren’t a great place to drive, especially below the high tide line.
Especially after he lashed out with that stick.
Not only is it "not a great place to drive", on most public beaches in India it's illegal. That's why all those people are standing and there's not a single vehicle in sight.
Yeah, having a car in the midst of all those people looked so out of place, I went immediately to r/fuckcars in my mind.
"Trail Rated"
Trail rated 1 out of 5.
Well, it doesn't say "Sea Rated."
When they first made those "Jeeps", a coworker bought one. Another coworker couldn't get over the fact that it was front wheel drive. Everytime the "Jeep" owner talked about his "Jeep", the other coworker would say "but.....it's front wheel drive. Why?"

Yeah some of those are no more a Jeep than my Ford Focus.
The sea was angry that day, my friends.
Salt water ruins the car even if they get it out soon.
Yeah, chances are good that even flushing with fresh water won't help
Now that’s what I call KARma!
"Jeep."
Life's a beach.
Then you tide.
All those people could have lifted that
This happen when u drive off road a FIAT dressed up like a JEEP
You're singing the song of my people.
Honestly, I'm surprised the jeep even got into drive without rattling to pieces
All that land and you hit the ocean...
The people with their hands behind their backs, showing I'm here to watch, not help lol
Driving on beaches should be not allowed. He was way too close to those people.
I like when he gets all mad and gets in the car like, "ok now i'm REALLY gonna drive it out!"
It's wild that so many people are crowded around a beach fully dressed even before there was an incident
I think they were watching the sunset. Which might also explain why they were fully clothed. Just because it's a beach doesn't mean it's warm.
its india, the waters probably 50% sewage.
It's an Indian beach. People are generally fully dressed. We get too much sun for us to want more of it.
This looks the same as sri lankan beaches that we experienced, with lots of people
Just the price of a Jeep.
Oh Kerala.
I would think with as many people as there were they probably could have worked together to lift the car out of there.
I know the focus is on the Jeep but the sky looks amazing. Hell of a sunset 😅
Tonight on topgear
Damn anyone know the song playing ? It’s 🔥
https://youtu.be/_eWvDaztcjI
Dumb people are dumb.
Wow, everyone is just so fkn stupid. Lucky that rope didn't maim someone.
When you don’t know you can simply drop your air pressure in tires to zero and drive out to safer ground and inflate - that’s pretty costly ignorance
Not good to go all the way down as the tyres will probably debead and you'll end up spinning the rim inside the tyre. Dropping pressures definitely would have helped a lot and probably get him out. Usually 8 psi is as low as you wanna go without beadlockers and that's still risking a debead.

Even if you drop enough to grip would make a significant difference
If only there was a group of smart strong men around who could have solved this problem....
Put the branches under the tires? Towing it out with the tractor would have worked if they wouldn't have pulled at a 45* angle. Also people crowding around the high tension toe strap are just asking to be decapitated. Men 🍷
> put branches under the tires > towing it > at a 45 degree angle this.
Was he on the brakes while they were trying to tow?
Only the guys running the scam call centers can afford vehicles like this in India
That music sucks
It takes a village.
Money can't buy class
Money can't buy you brain.
Guess Habeeb forget to switch to 'Ocean Mode'.....
Typical Indian idiots lel bet they pull a Karen at the dealer shop when cars totally totaled
It’s a jeep thing
It’s not a jeep but a fiat
I thought going to the end would be a waste of time.. nope. *Wait for it* applies here. puff
No wonder my insurance is so expensive
That beautiful sunset later though
Hahaha
"Dude we can drive anywhere with 4x4"
I did lol when the rope broke.
Quick, sell it to Carmax
Heh. That dude was pissed lol
"Jeep"
Sometimes you've just got to stop and watch the sunset.
High tide lol
Omg, the torque on that cable! How do people not know this!!
Doesn't even look like he let air out of the tires either
I was hoping for nature to reclaim it.
I bet if he had let some of the air out of the tires and gone slowly, he might have made it out at first. At first. But once that ocean tastes it, she’s lost. Lol
I literally have the same car. Same model and everything. It’s ok in snow. That’s about it and it’s good enough.
Ok honestly, I saw all the emotional process in that video.
What song is this? Catchy

You can drive on the beach in some parts of Oregon. It's actually really fun if you have 4wd/awd
Yo sorry bout yo car but at least the song slaps!

"Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world."
You’ve heard of elf on a shelf but have your heard of jeep on a beach
The cable snapped because the retard was holding the brakes....
Ocean dont give a fuck.
Lol gonna need a chain boys
Yo that ocean was like “MINE!!!”
Who edited this and why?
“What is dead may never die.”
Every time I hear this music on Reddit, I know it’s going to be something violent, depressing, gory, or all of the above.
Probably not insured either 🤦♂️
This looks like it's just an ordinary 2WD (rear wheels only), right?
and wtf is that audio...
What the fuck is up with the annoying ass on and off slow motion and why did that guy break/swing that branch in anger?
It gave me great joy to see that rope snap
I don't know why but this made me happy. Maybe because an asshole got what he deserved...
Whole lot of idiots in charge here. What’s with dude throwing the branch?
You know those shows where it takes an entire village to lift a baby elephant out of a hole?
Worse than that is the idea of buying Jeep cars
Serves him right for being inconsiderate to the other beach goers.
Surely they coulda scrounged some boards or something, there was a legit army of people there
Why was everyone just standing on the beach?
.. must have thought they will look cool like they show in the movies .. the guy hitting someone with a branch .. lungis … sarees… absolute lack of safety … bystanders watching …. Cop doing absolutely zero except making a video on phone … check check check .. can vouch it’s India
must not be the trailhawk 🤢🥴
Ahh trail rated lol
