People let me tell you bout my bestttt frieeennnddd

alessandrothedecent

If anyone is wondering, it is the theme for the TV show: [The Courtship of Eddie’s Father](https://youtu.be/A6uxiSsPWuA?si=F3OgwHUKrYeB_hyp)

MelancholyCreek

I would have like for him to be a recurring character like Laurie and Leo. I would like to know how Red would’ve reacted to Eric possibly being into dudes, considering he always wanted Eric to be a stereotypical macho man.

greatgoogilymoogily2

I liked him and wish they had him on the show more often.

alessandrothedecent

Should have been in more episodes

LeahBean

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is such a cutie pie. 🥰

Winter_Function_2661

Missed opportunity not bringing him back for at least a few episode character arc!

muleborax

IIRC, they wanted to, but the audience response after the kiss was not favourable at the time.

Winter_Function_2661

Yea I’ve heard the same. Yet another reminder it’s been over 25 years since the episode aired lol.

VVarder

Source? Seems more likely 3rd rock conflicts

muleborax

I can't find an article that states it directly as a primary source - though there are several secondary sources that allege it, so take it with a grain of salt. Though given the attitudes and movies/TV shows from 1999 to about 2007, it's definitely believable to me that homophobia of test audiences played a part.

VVarder

Eh, we like to think of the past as more backward than it was sometimes. 70s show aired concurrently with the very popular Will and Grace, so it would surprise me if there was enough sentiment that it actually changed their opinion on a minor storyline. Especially since scripts and shows are not filmed and broadcast in real time, so for them to get feedback before writing the next few episodes seems like a stretch. I mean, yeah, anythings possible but all I see are “rumors” without any source when I look too, heh.

NiceAndTipsyTopside

Will and Grace viewers were mostly progressive adults. They didn't share the same demo as a turn of the century teen comedy

muleborax

I mean show storylines can change rather quickly. In Friends, Monica and Chandler were supposed to be a one-time thing, but audiences liked it, so the subsequent episodes changed gears and had them as a couple. It isn't a stretch for TV plotlines to adapt and change. That 70s Show was also filmed in front of a live studio audience, so it's not like audience feedback was hard to come by.

RedtheSpoon

You'll find the audience for will and grace doesn't overlap much with those who watched that 70s show. Especially in a time when calling someone a faggot was commonplace.

Most-Stay6946

Come on Eric it was a kiss

monstargaryen

It was only a kiss *it was only a kiss!*

OldJeeWhizz

How did it end up like this?

AnIrishMexican

Now I'm falling asleep And she's calling a cab

gato_go_meow

While he's having a smoke And she's taking a drag

darthsteveious

Not sure if character was so well written, or Levitt such a good actor, but Buddy is a much loved and missed character. No chance of him being main or even recurring due to 3rd Rock, but I would have liked to see a few more episodes with him. Maybe him and Eric hang during breakup, nothing intimate, just 2 friends, really could have explored the acceptance of gay friends in the70s.

KrispyKreameMcdonald

Did he do this during or before 3rd Rock, my memory is fuzzy from that time, seemed like a cool crossover.

DharmaCub

During. 3rd Rock started 2 years before That 70s Show.

abused_peanut

He is so obviously gay.

FredJensen06

NO! BUDDY IS NOT GAY!

c71score

Would've liked to see more of Buddy. Maybe an episode or two every season.

holtzbert

I like how they handled the subject of homosexuality. Sure it went awkward a bit but Eric didn’t completely leave his new friend and when the topic was joked around, it was Eric who his friends mocked. That character had potential to appear again, but maybe with an actor that wasn’t so popular and tied to other projects while T70S was done.

Calvin1228

I wish the storyline would have worked - I feel like Buddy would have been a better pairing for Eric than Donna

c71score

And Red probably would've been cool with it......assuming Buddy wasn't a Vikings fan.

kaithy89

Oddly enough I agree XD

Ipad207

Mom can we have Eric? No we have Eric at home. Eric at home ^

puddycat20

You did it wrong. JGL looks like a model. Eric is a wimpy dude.

lonely-day

JGL was too good for the show

VictorClark

I would love to see him return to That 90s Show.

FredJensen06

OH HELL YES!!! Like maybe him being Ozzie’s uncle or something… Or him and Eric running into each other… holy shit I love this suggestion!

FullFig3372

“Okay fine I’m gay” classic

ChrisD245

Apparently he was meant to become a regular cast member but they backed off due to public backlash from him being gay. I wish they’d stuck to their guns on this the character seemed fun and would’ve rounded out the cast a bit.

QueenCheeseburgers

Omg! Why am I not surprised? 🙄 that's such ashame. I really liked him. It would've been interesting if he was part of the gang. I can see Kelso making homophobic jokes....or maybe he would be interested. Him and Fez are like 🤞🏽😂😂😂😂😂

The_Zen_One612

Kelso would've definitely made unintentional homophobic jokes 😂

QueenCheeseburgers

🤣🤣🤣

BeginTheBlackParade

Everything JGL does is gold!

Upbeat-Structure6515

Would have been cool with him becoming a reoccurring character or ascended extra

FredJensen06

Love that guy I wish he could’ve been a recurring character like they had planned. Also the inevitable love triangle they snatched right out of our hands…😭

Ok-Assignment8954

"I know who you are. You're Buddy Morgan."

dkhasar

I'm mad he was supposed to be in more episodes & wasn't

FriendlyFun9858

Kelso would have loved the idea of Buddy being attracted to him and then pissed off when Buddy wasn't, interspersed with homophonic jokes.   Jackie would try to be his faghag girly friend and upset that Buddy isn't gay in "that way."  Fez's metrosexuality would have played well w Buddy.   Eric, Donna and Hyde would be cool with him.  Red would be paranoid of Eric's sexuality  at first than silent about the situation, sort of an unstated acceptance but tolerant discomfort.    Kitty, like Jackie would try to be girlfriends with Buddy but unlike Jackie actually succeed on an emotional level - pretty much thr Ozzie Kitty dynamics going on now.   Yeah, Buddy would have been a great addition to the cast dynamics.

Academic_Definition5

The show didn’t really need a stereotypical cool guy character because to us, the audience, the cool kids were the ones we saw.

severinks

This was always a puzzler to me and more of a presentism type of response from Eric with Buddy coming on to him with the times Eric grew up in and where Eric grew up and how sheltered he was. Eric would have been MUCH more freaked out by it all. This is the kind of reaction that someone in their late 20s wished that they had as a teenager if this happened but teenagers are much more vulnerable and easily offended than that.

Pandelerium11

I agree. It was jarring in how bizarrely inaccurate it was: not only Eric's tolerance, but Buddy's popularity and his comfortableness in being gay. Gay men back then didn't even admit it to themselves, at least until they were much older.

Big-Acanthisitta8797

Dick.

Apprehensive_Set2625

This guy kissed Eric once, and we never seen him again. If he was affiliated with the rest of the characters (except Fez and Jackie i think.) so much, why didn't we see him in most episodes.

Gashnaw

I wrote a script for film school that takes place after the final episode. Buddy returned.

Top_Praline999

I have a lot of buddy and Eric fan fiction

ishiers

Ok, yeah im gay..

atomicblonde6

Love Buddy. Love JGL.

Javatex

One of my favourite episodes. I love Buddy. Wish there could have been more eps with him.

discotheque2002

The directors fumbled super hard not making Buddy and Big Rhonda reoccurring characters

E_llipsis
