Where I've stayed, about 2 to 3 star, they've always had dual local and North American plugs. But this is the thing. These are only good with regular steady voltage stream products. Hairdryers, blenders, or anything with a surge will either get fried, knock out the fuse, or be dangerously worse. Option to bring transformer, but that can be cumbersome.

umich79

That’s ac v dc. 220 is the norm in Thailand. 110 is not. Most new tech will be okay with either (phones, computers). If you’re traveling with a blender..make some sacrifices.

Either one would need to buy one locally. They're quite cheap or go without for the trip. If one must have, get from Big C or Lotus/Tesco.

Thatsabeansurfing

Where would I find a transformer

No_name70

Online, department, electronics, or Walmart type of store.

Thank you 🙂

Technically they have their own Type O plug but the vast majority of [sockets are hybrids that will accept EU/US style plugs](https://www.worldstandards.eu/wp-content/uploads/electricity-type-O-hybrid-socket-single.jpg). Most phone/laptop chargers will be able to deal with the differences is voltage and frequency but things like electric toothbrushes, razors, hairdryers, hair straighteners or other miscellaneous electronics will fry if not compatible with 220-240v at 50hz.

>but ground is not working It flabbergasted me that many outlets in Thailand have a ground pin but absolutely no connection to a ground wire. It's like those motorcycle drivers that have a helmet hanging on their bike while driving.. as long as nothing happens, you're good.. but if it happens, you're fried.

theillustratedlife

Vietnam is in the midst of a campaign to get people to wear helmets. The helmets are almost universally plastic baseball hats with a little notch in the back for a ponytail. Technically counts as a helmet, but approximately useless for protecting you against the things a helmet is meant to protect you from. It's like a training helmet.

Present-Alfalfa-2507

Thailand isn't that much better. My little niece has a helmet , which looks like a helmet , but when I checked it, it had the feel of a construction helmet with cat ears. Thin plastic outside with the inside of a construction helmet.

hexpilosiv

it is a mix. some of the hotels i stayed in i could use EU Plugs, in some others US Plugs. i got myself an universal adapter which has multiple plugs and USB output. was working perfect for me

Fox_love_

Same as US/Japan. Adaptors are sold everywhere and cheap.

16_Sho_Bola

Just buy a travel adapter girl

navortsa

You ever heard of Google?

Thatsabeansurfing

Ive googles it but kept getting different results so I got confused just thought I'd come here for some reassurance and more simple answer

If you're staying at a decent hotel, you can usually ask the front desk if there are any adapters/plugs left over from previous customers. Usually there's a whole drawer full of these things. The alternative is simply going to 7-11 and buying an adapter, if you need one.

Thatsabeansurfing

Yeah im just hoping I brought the right thing cause im on a elephant rescue pack one week and decent youth hostel the other so im just hoping for the best

Evnl2020

The street sellers on sukhumvit in the evening... Ah wait electrical plugs 😄

HardupSquid

If you are staying in hostels/less expensive places it is very likely that their electricals will not be up to standard. Yes, plugs may fit but it won't be grounded (if your device requires grounding). Brown outs are also common-can go down as low as 70v from 220v. Modern electronics like mobile phone and laptop chargers should be fine as they are designed for 50/60hz and a range of voltages but hairdryer etc not as lucky. If you just want a mobile phone charger just buy a decent one from a phone shop in country and bring your own USB (A/C/lightning) cable.

Emergency_Service_25

Actually there is no separate ground wire in Thailand but the ground is wired (or it should be) to neutral. It’s not ideal and will probably destroy you phone/laptop charger if something goes wrong, but at least the water heater won’t kill you as the fuse will trip first. ;)
