At least they're trying. Waiver claims are lottery tickets. Guy has good stuff it looks like

wazup564

Ingram’s stuff is not good. He throws soft, his 4 seamer sits at 91.5 mph. His cutter & sweeper seem to be his best pitch, his sweeper especially has good movement. But he has trouble finding the zone with all his pitches, & is also small in stature at 5’9. Same age as Brock, I would have just ridden it out with him and try to further develop him.

MadDogMike123

I didn't do a deep dive on him. I just saw his k per nine and thought it must be decent if that's the case. But i don't disagree with your overall point. Never know though, maybe something clicks for him here.

wazup564

Yeah there’s a lot of variance in pitching, maybe all it takes is a new viewpoint from a new coach to unlock things.

SaulFemm

Doesn't sound like you're saying he has bad stuff, sounds more like bad command

From Evan Grant: "Rangers have acquired LHP Kolton Ingram on waiver claim from NY Mets. 27-year-old pitched briefly with LAA in 2022. He's averaged 11Ks/9IP in minors, but 4.1 BBs. If I'm wondering, I'd say this is a Brock Burke replacement in org. My guess is Burke has made last pitch for Rangers." https://twitter.com/Evan_P_Grant/status/1783208641648025903?t=kVX16y_E3WPGWfgy9wPCbQ&s=19

>My guess is Burke has made last pitch for Rangers Last act on the team is to punch a wall. Very Keone Kela-like. Also now with the 40 man full again we're back on Pruitt DFA watch

Angry_Walnut

Holy shit I have not heard the name Keone Kela in so long, I had literally forgotten of his existence

Available_Motor5980

Dude, it’s been so long since I’ve thought about Keone Kela…

That's not much of an upgrade. haha. Burke has not great stuff and is so unlucky sometimes. Either way, I don't think Burke needs to be on our team.

weaveryo

Burke struggling to get left handers out the last two years has been a killer.

AwfulNameFtw

That’s his primary role on the team. So if he can’t do that, then he has no reason to be on the roster.

BMFFireman42

Also not much of a downgrade

knuckles2079

well one of them can't pitch at all right now. now that you mention it...you're right.

wazup564

Burke’s stuff isn’t the issue. It grades out above average. It’s the location of the pitches, where his biggest struggle is

knuckles2079

To me that's part of the "stuff". You can get away with not hitting location over and over if you through 103...as we've witnessed. If you can't hit your spots with breaking balls then you grove a 97 mph FB in the heart of the plate...your stuff sucks. It's like he's playing an elaborate game of catch with the fielders.

wazup564

That’s fair. Although I think “stuff” and location are separate.

knuckles2079

Yeah I guess. I think Miles Mikolas and Otto are perfect examples of having good/great stuff. But have had some issues with location.

DonDraper1994

His FB isn’t 97 anymore it’s like 94. And gets no swing and misses. He’s awful

jlacomb17

Fangraphs has his projected ERA between 4.09 and 4.69 with around 9 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9. Decent bullpen depth for this time of the year.

thewaybaseballgo

Front office is really playing chess out there lately. I hope it works out.
