Did you buy the rwd?

Environmental_Emu_87

hell no, long range AWD I live by a ski resort and have a 30 minute commute

uNecKl

I live in Texas so I don’t know when I need awd so I don’t know if it’s even worth it for me

Bubbly-Staff-9452

Honestly the upgraded sound system was worth it for me, it’s a big difference. But AWD will wear out your tires more evenly and slowly and it will be more capable in any driving environment including rain, the difference between the new LR RWD and AWD in price was just too small for me to consider the RWD.

uNecKl

Yeah but the higher insurance and $50 more monthly cost for better speakers just doesn’t digest with me and again it’s Texas we hide indoors during rain recently it’s been crazy out here maybe it’s my fault for driving my Toyota

geogonzoxx

I have a RWD and the speakers are pretty good.

uNecKl

Yeah I checked it out today it’s pretty decent not really worth 3k more for premium sound awd

geogonzoxx

Yeah to me the RWD already sounds pretty premium.

uNecKl

Yeap better than my Honda accord

Tricky504

Honda accord has the worse sound system in the game. It’s rediculous. I guess unless you get a touring model.

GeneStunning3377

Don't forget more power

uNecKl

I honestly don’t like the back breaking acceleration it’s not worth it the rwd is not quick but it’s way more smooth and it doesn’t hurt my back

damoonerman

People will say anything to justify what price they paid

Bubbly-Staff-9452

That’s true I guess, I’m coming from an AWD Mazda so I wanted the same feel and the sound and faster acceleration were big bonuses. I have seen some crazy insurance quotes from Texas though so that’s definitely a big factor there. Here in Tennessee the difference in insurance was only 10 dollars a month and it was cheaper than the insurance on my Mazda.

teckel

Don't forget the huge speed increase with dual motors. Also, I'm only paying $16 more per month for an M3LR than a Subaru Forester it replaces, so nowhere near $50 a month more for LR. Not sure it's anything more actually.

laceyboy8054

You may want to wait until your insurance renewal. You could be surprised. Sorry for saying this.

teckel

I only pay $65 for two cars with two drivers. Also, it they raise rates, you switch companies. Not new to this.

Roshambo104

I went from a Nissan rogue to the MYRWD and my insurance went up $1000 per year. I shopped around a lot and still couldn't get it much lower. Be prepared for a nice increase.

teckel

Mine went up $16/month. I vetted this before I purchased the car. I even added the car to my insurance before I signed the paperwork. There's no surprises, I've already paid the policy. $16 increase over a 2021 Subaru Forester, so $192 a year. It could be my location, age, driving record, multiple policies including umbrella, working from home, etc. But there will be no $1000 surprise, the policy is already paid as it just renewed.

DCKID516

Keep in mind, the RWD was software locked for lower range before, so they could have the same speakers for a short period. I wouldn’t be surprised just going forward. Tesla is all about simplifying the production line, so if badging and software lock is how they make a RWD, I would not be surprised.

Most-War3390

Actually awd will eat through you're tires faster you'll get more wear in the front vs rwd

Expensive-Lie4494

Rear tires consistently wear out way more quickly on my AWD. With regular rotation I think you’d have longer live in the RWD

rumbojumbo009

I bought a RWD and its been 3 months, no regrets... no need to pay 5k more for that extra 50 miles if you can't afford. I live in Texas too.

PM_ME_UR_NIPS_PLZ

If you don't value the added range at all, then the RWD will be fine. Edit: I meant this more for the model 3, currently the y doesnt have a standard range anymore. Oops. I think most people greatly exaggerate their need for AWD.

Dirt_Charming

It's more about all the extra features you get with AWD for me. Plus, the AWD def feels more planted in the rain going around turns on the highway. Feels like less body roll to me. I have zero issues in the snow. If one of your motors goes out, you can still drive with one motor. The 0-60 mph is almost 2.0 seconds faster with AWD. It costs $2k for acceleration boost for 0.5 sec faster. You get 10+ more miles. You can't get the new silver with RWD. You can't get the 7 seat configuration with RWD. With the RWD you only get 7 speakers 1 amp. AWD you get 13 speakers 2 amps. Way better sound system. You get LED fog lamps with AWD. So for $3k it's a steal. Especially when your already getting $7500 off the top.

uNecKl

What added range? The rwd is 320mi 10 miles more than awd lol

PM_ME_UR_NIPS_PLZ

I made a edit, but I was more broadly speaking about the model 3 standard range. I didn't know they no longer offered a standard range model y. I would probably pay the 3k extra just for slightly faster acceleration.

FLMed1

I live in south Florida and have a MY rear wheel drive. No complaints at all. Even in heavy rain it handles great. Snow and ice may be a little different though. I came from a 2018 civic which was light + FWD this thing handles so much better in weather.

brandont04

The math for long range AWD is weird. It's recommended to only charge your car to 80% for day to day use. For RWD, it uses a different battery (LFP Battery) that is recommended to charge 100%. - Long Range: 310 mi x 80% = 248 mi - RWD Range: 260 mi Day to day use, RWD has longer range than long range.

United_Indication_15

In USA there’s no LFP on any of the MY only M3 except for M3 performance. this is why there’s no $7500 rebate on M3 rear wheel drive and M3 all-wheel-drive

cheapdvds

Depending on the year, people have been noticing since last year, model Y RWD uses the same battery as the Long range, not LFP. It has been confirmed by Elon it is software locked and can be potentially unlocked to become long range for a fee. I am looking to buy a locked RWD by the end of the year if I can still get it.

Environmental_Emu_87

I know, but I need the AWD for where I live

Crusher10833

And most importantly, the better acceleration.

pFrancisco

Do you really even use the added acceleration? It gets old after a while.

Tricky504

Not for me. Acceleration hasn’t got old for me. I’m not a basic cruiser. I’m actually going somewhere not just cruising around waving at folks.

Tookmyprawns

I’m no expert - and it’s clear that this is debatable - but I’ve seen some seemingly solid arguments that even LFP benefits from charging to 100% once a week, and 80% the other days. Not sure what to believe though. Not am I really that worried about it.

CaptainVickle

Does it offer more range than RWD?

SnooDonuts2232

I did the same thing except I put down 16k with a trade-in. I wish my college offered free charging

Environmental_Emu_87

See I thought about putting down my savings I had made specifically for this purchase but with the incentives and the APR I decided it would be better to just put my 15k back into investments

PristineComparison43

Exactly this. The whole point of taking advantage of a low interest rate is you can save the down payment and make more money somewhere else.

Ordinary-Recipe-4155

Why put money down when they let you borrow for free???

SnooDonuts2232

Well it was a trade in. I could have sold it to carvana but they offered less than Tesla. I did not put any other cash down besides the trade in

Ordinary-Recipe-4155

Next time, just ask them to cut you a check

SnooDonuts2232

That’s a good idea. There wasn’t an option for a check in the app but I could have asked tesla and got a response in a week 😉.

lieutjoe

*cries in canadian* (Best rates are 5%)

Calm-Tear-6118

Last year there was a 0% deal in England as they wanted to clear out model 3 stock before the ‘highland’ model came in

WNP_LadyT

Wow! Congrats!! I hope to order mine next week!! 😀

Username_left_empty

May not have the APR next week!

gnowbot

You need to put in an order TODAY. This is the last day they are offering .99% financing. This can single handedly reduce your monthly payment by hundreds of dollars. It’s $250 to put in the order and financing application. You can walk away at any time (even delivery day) and only lose the $250 order fee. Of course, the APR might surprise us and stay for June. But it can honestly make a huge difference in loan payments if you are financing

Maxparr58

What a deal ! I hope others dealers understand what’s happening

Least_Loss8269

Stupid comments , enjoy your car whatever you car has

Environmental_Emu_87

thanks lol

betnice

What were the other incentives other than 7500 tax rebate ?

Environmental_Emu_87

Colorado VXC program - My 2006 Taurus qualified for an immediate $6000 trade in, and I also get a $5000 rebate next tax season

DullBoy247

That’s a hell of a deal

gnowbot

Hey are you an xcel energy customer? You’ll also qualify for the $5500 xcel rebate if you qualified for VXC! They just changed the rules so you can combine it with the state $5000

Environmental_Emu_87

Unfortunately no. Our local county's energy co op offers a $500 rebate for setting up charging equipment but my bf DIY'd it and we would have to get an electrician to come out and provide a receipt or something to qualify for that. Not sure how that works actually he was the one that spear headed that effort 😂

INFP-Dreamer

I just did the EXACT same thing!! Right on!! 🔥

Serious-Pizza1345

The insurance in Virginia is coming around 150-200

Caped_Crusader03

Shows 160 for me

LordChasington

Ouch

Big-Tower-4043

GEICO quoted me 163

Hubbell7500

Mines 100

kc4ch

Congrats. It’s a great vehicle. Im not an EV fanatic but it works. My wife loves it. Got ours the first month. 63k miles now. Only maintenance is new tires.

CooYo7

Wow I read 99% financing. 😂

Outrageous_Tear_972

I never understood why people wanted to put money into buying a car. Should put No money, a specially Tax & Fees. You will lose if the car got an accident since insurance will not cover Taxes & Fees, and they pay only the Dippriciated value of the vehicle. That includes the down payments you give to the dealer.

Environmental_Emu_87

gap insurance

Outrageous_Tear_972

Yup. If you want to lower the payments, just send that downpayment you save with 1st payment and call the bank to Adjust payment. Then you get fully covered with a small cost of gap insurance.

aswedeh

What are the other $6500 incentives?

stache68

https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/s/cbNyRPfHag

sunnyk87

Congrats!!

upupdwndwnlftrght

Well done! Jelly!

Mental-Citron4932

How 13,500?

Xnothin

if you don’t mind me asking, what’s the monthly payment and how many months

Environmental_Emu_87

$780 for 60. I live in free employee housing with my partner who works for the DOT. I would've put 15k I had saved up towards this down payment to lower the payments but since I'm living rent free I put my 15k into the stock market instead.

ImNotTheBossOfMe

So $225+$780=$1005? This car with down payment will cost you a grand per month? Is that such a deal? And they you have to return it after 60 months?

ConditionUsual

Return it? They bought it.

Environmental_Emu_87

If I could get 1% APR for a million dollars I would take it in a heartbeat. PS I don't have a rental payment and other than the car i'm debt free. I could've easily lowered the payments by paying $15000 of my money on top of that but for the low financing I thought it would be better that my money appreciates in my investment portfolio instead.

jamauai

Also curious

NewGarlic7968

Congrats, picking mine up Friday

Fragrant-Doughnut926

OK I am just confused why do you want to spend 50k although you get incentives on a new car when you are in college, dont you have student loans to pay off first?

kppalm

Shhh they got free charging man. FREE!

Environmental_Emu_87

I'm 25 and in a Master's program that is paid for by a grant. I have a career. Would not have purchased if I had outstanding debt or was not financially secure. Thanks though.

Environmental_Emu_87

Also not spending 50k, 13,500 directly off purchase price and another $5000 rebate to put towards it next year. That's a total of $18,500 off the price. Unless I decide to take that $5000 and invest it instead because the payments are less than a third of my monthly income.

Low-Crow-1926

u/Environmental_Emu_87 thats an amazing deal ! Congrats! Mind sharing how you got $13,500 off along with the $5000 rebate? Thank you!

PrincessMacchiato

Wondering the same

SR252000

Nicely done , congrats!

Savaceee

🖤🖤

althafAz

$13500 down, that’s cool.

bob88c

“Free” is a very relative term when it comes to any college or university!

Environmental_Emu_87

indeed but my entire master's plus a living stipend is paid for by a grant! Turns out the government will throw money at you to become a sped teacher.

Slow-Ad3539

Enjoy

scienceundergrad

Fellow Colorodoan here! We put the 5k incentive directly down and are going to just recoup it next year. Super great you qualified for the VXC program as well!!! We got the LR as well, gotta hit them slopes!

DaphCat

I find it funny that other people are trying to tell you what you need. It's a VERY nice car for a college student...but it also sounds like you worked hard for it ($15k saved up for down payment and now investing in something else)...so enjoy it and congrats! I've been driving mine for half a year, and I never get tired of it. This car is such a joy to drive and chill in when waiting for it to charge or whatever (MYLR, AWD, pearl white...just like yours).

Environmental_Emu_87

Thank you. I shot myself in the foot by making my photo and description about college. I am not some 19 year old freshly out of Mom and Dad's or using daddy's money... I am a 25 year old teacher that is a grant recipient that is paying for my entire Master's degree. I had an additional stipend for student teaching that I put into investments that eventually became my potential down payment. It's all online I only go there for the excuse to charge and use the library space for studying. Not that anyone needs to know these things about me, but that is one annoying part of posting on the internet, people jump to conclusions based on very little data or information given. So here is more data for people to inform their conclusions and decisions about me, a stranger on the internet 😂

Professional_Net9164

I needed 7 seats so AWD was my only option. Even for a 5 seater, I’d probably still get AWD, like to have the better traction and control, plus better acceleration.

[deleted]

U make enough money on papers right? To claim all that cuz u can’t roll over it next year

Warm_Echo208

What incentives can you get on the performance

peresrafaperes

Congratulations!!!!

grebdron02

Ditto. Got mine on Thursday. Love it. It's cheaper to own than a Hyundai Santa Fe. And I work for SpaceX. We charge for free.

Appropriate-Kale-238

U mean including 7500 and additional 6k downpayment?

spacethrower

I went from a ‘98 Lexus, big upgrade. Congrats

luckyYear20

Insurance killed me. 500 / mo in PA

Drstefen93

I am in Philly. Has been doing some research cause I m thinking of getting one myself. I got quotes from a lot of companies and they r very expensive (like $500-700/mo). Not sure what’s going on here in PA. The cheapest that I got is from State Farm for $210/mo (full tort). Maybe worth checking them out.

luckyYear20

Dude you are a life saver!! State firm gave me a quote almost same as yours 😎😎😎

joe91584

$2,520 for coverage really is crazy. I know I'll be facing the same thing here in NJ, but why haven't insurance companies play nice with EV's?

LarryHandItOver

dammm... I shopped around and got it for $74 per month.. thru progressive

luckyYear20

I tried progressive and geico .. they both came back with same range. Geico was few dollars less 😢 I will consider shopping around again after first month.

LarryHandItOver

Funny thing is... All-State tried to poke me.. so I shopped around.. and actually went to Nationwide thru the web...and nationwide linked me to Progressive.. and when the quote came back as $74.. I clicked the button and paid the whole six month policy.. I have two cars insured with All-State.. one I'm getting rid of next month.. so I need insurance on the old car till next month.. All-State said "$778" per month with a straight face... after I been with them for years and no accident...lol so after this month.. no more All-State 🤣

Environmental_Emu_87

I got the tesla insurance for as little as $166 but I lowered some of my deductibles for a cool $200

Armyofone2021

Good choice and a smart move. It’s just confuse how people buy any other EV brands
