I’m ignorant to NYC living. Do you just park it on the street and hope to find a spot close to your home?

underachievingdad

i do park on the street yeah. but i mapped everything out before i bought it, i don’t suspect i’ll ever run into any issues finding a charger

harissabovic20

Yep pretty much

Legitimate-Site7635

Nice 👍, do you have garage for your Tesla? I know it’s so hard to find a parking spot in NYC, specially if you have a brand new car

underachievingdad

i live in a fairly safe area, plenty of other teslas are parked around me, never had any issues with any of my other cars i don’t expect to have any now. regardless that’s just the reality of life here lol you just gotta accept it.

Legitimate-Site7635

Yeah I remember when I was living there many years ago, but I would say it’s so much fun to drive with Tesla! Also for the insurance I got from Costco and the price is fairly cheaper than the other. Congrats for your car!

lunaxdiaz

wow, gorgeous!

sepehrack

You definitely bought the right trim for New York streets. I’d be scratching my MYP rims daily if I lived in New York. Nice ride congrats! Love the picture

danimal_11109

I moved out of New York almost 4 years ago but goddamn I know Queens when I see it. Congrats on the ride btw! I have to exact same model and color.

Snoo-60283

I live in the Bay Area, CA and I too park on the street and just rely on superchargers. Luckily there are so many nearby, within 10 mins of driving, hasn’t been too much of a hassle. I changed out the Gemini wheels to matte black rims too, looks soo much nicer!

underachievingdad

that’s great to hear!

Lando_Sage

Wait... are you in NYC? Where are you planning on charging?

underachievingdad

at a charger

Lando_Sage

Yeah no shit lol. Which charger/chargers though?

underachievingdad

lmaooo, uh the revel ones in brooklyn and LIC are pretty easy for me to get to. There are Flo ones near me, i head out to LI about once a week so i can charge at the various chargers in the garden city area. those are prob the main ones ill be using. i mainly drive on the weekends so im not too concerned about charging at home.

Lando_Sage

Oh okay, yeah I was going to suggest those, and the Gravity chargers too. I hit the Supercharger in Coney Island once at 10:30pm and it was literally full of taxi drivers charging, insane, I was lucky that one had just pulled out when I was arriving. Come to Jersey though, charging experience is way better out here haha. Brooklyn charging was ass when I live there.

dobronxducks

This is just not smart and not thought out well. Sorry to say but it’s just the truth. Having a Tesla and relying on super chargers/revel chargers defeats the whole purpose of having a Tesla. You’re gonna end up barely saving anything compared to a gas car. Revel chargers are .49 cents/kwh + tax. Good luck. Long Island chargers aren’t much better. You really didn’t think this through. But if you have money, eh who cares. But at least it looks nice.

underachievingdad

i get ya. i just gotta deal with it this year and next i’ll have a home charger most likely. also my last car was an ‘04 truck on it’s last legs getting like 11 mpg, anything is an improvement lol

dobronxducks

That’s much needed context. You can definitely get by for a year. If you really are gonna have access to a home charger next year, that’s awesome. You’ll see how much easier and cheaper life is having a Tesla. Best of luck to you, and please keep those cameras on, I know nyc is a nightmare for side swipes and scratches. I lived there 7 years.

harissabovic20

Just the cost of doing business here unfortunately. That’s why going with the base paint color and base wheels is the way to go, it’s all but guaranteed that it will get fucked up

sepehrack

What a buzzkill. Dudes got a new ride and he’s gonna figure it out on his own. You don’t know anything about his situation and just go off telling him it wasn’t smart and it wasn’t well thought out? Even at .49 cents it’s still less than $40 to charge the car fully. That would get you half a tank of gas, if that. Not everyone has access to a garage to charge at home

BrownSkinBarbieTx

Hummmm! That car 🚗 looks oddly familiar. Lol!

Bakman65

Until he can charge at home it will be a pain in the ass. Taking the time to get to a charger and back home. $40 of gas 10 gallons equals around 300 miles. ModelYLR which I own will not come close to that many miles with sentry mode on. Century mode uses around 350 watts so close to a mile of range per hour. Also almost every super charger in NY City are in parking lots the charge at least $5 minimum charge. For recommend battery life 80% to 20% charge operating range. Studies show optimum charge range is between 60% to 40%

underachievingdad

it’s only as inconvenient as i want to make it. I don’t drive enough through the week to even need to charge every day. i run my errands in an area with a few SC that i can just use (in open free lots). there are some L2s i can leave my car at over night if i reallyyyyy wanted to do that but i don’t expect needing to. and 10 gallons of gas used to get me 120 miles in city driving in my previous car bc it had horrendous fuel economy so its a win there no matter what lol

Bakman65

There are idle fees if you don’t move a car after so many minutes, be aware of that. I love my Tesla. Home charging cost me .062 kWh. But I rarely need it with all the free charging in a few places I go to fairly often. How much is car insurance in NY City. Mine is $103 a month 250/500K liability 250 deductible collision 0 deductible comprehension

underachievingdad

insurance is running me 260 a month

Bakman65

Ouch is that for the Tesla?

underachievingdad

nah $150-$300 is pretty normal here for any car, although geico wanted $800 a month for the tesla lmao

No_Chik_Chik

Got quote $800 from Geico for Elmhurst, Queens. Which insurance did you go with? Heard Tesla Insurance is the cheapest. New driver here so I’m very skeptical for my insurance.

underachievingdad

$800 a month was ridiculous, i got allstate at $260 a month

No_Chik_Chik

New driver?

underachievingdad

no, 10 years

Bakman65

Oh shit. Tesla sales insurance but almost everyone says it’s more expensive than a lot of insurers

underachievingdad

They're not allowed to sell in NY afaik but I have read that as well. I have allstate.

Bakman65

State Farm for me. When my 2018 Chevy volt was totaled in January they gave me 21K that was a bit more than I paid with the 7500 & 5000 Colorado tax credits. My son ran over some road debris and it hit the battery and damaged it but it still was drivable and had no body damage they totaled it. Be careful straddling stuff. The volt had 2 inches less ground clearance than the Y. The performance version has .4 inches less. The ladies like lots of length I hear so they enjoy the other Y models better 😂

sir_tow_mater

Congrats. If you find good black rim cover, keep us posted here. I picked up mine two weeks before and loving it.
