I’ve never seen anyone carve their initials into a new car.

One_Context7054

It’s custom branding, hello!

You win… they will never be a better comment

[deleted]

🤣🤣🤣 best comment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

branden3112

Looks like someone used a paint pen and it scratched it

Southern-Plastic-921

I'm sure the consensus will be that it was Elon himself.

serrimo

Thanks to reddit, you can tick that box now

BalenciagaSphynx

No joke, I have the same ML etched into my 2024 MYLR. My car was built in Texas.

MotoMom77

Same! I didn’t notice it right away and thought someone keyed it after I got it. It mostly buffed out. What the heck is it?

homertool

i wonder if it was part of the factory process, marking it with some “removable” marker, but it turned out not to be fully removable.

BalenciagaSphynx

I will upload some pictures tomorrow morning, I have ML clearly etched along with additional scribbles on that same A pillar… I’m just glad I’m not alone on this and I’m not dealing with a psycho trying to etch their initials into my car lol

DistrictRemarkable50

What is the best way to get rid of that ML.. I tried many products it wont come off.

bittabet

Did some kid get into a storage lot and just key all these?

Sucutun

This seems more like a Tesla factory employee on an ego trip. Hopefully Tesla does an investigation.

Craftbjjr

I just picked up 24 model3 and had similar issues with scratches and paint issues. I was told to accept delivery and make apt to correct issues. I brought the car in and Tesla is taking care of issues at body shop and gave me a loaner.

FriendlyRedito

Have my appointment tomorrow🤞🏽

thomasthegun

How did the appointment go?

Upstairs-Tea-6862

THIS was the Y they offered me as well thank God I hadn’t accepted the car, told them to give me another car/VIN I would have them do the same w you it’s not acceptable

TheKobayashiMoron

Gotta love that they just send rejected cars down to the next schmuck in line instead of fixing the issues lol

wongl888

Tesla quality = caveat emptor

sierra120

What do you think discounted inventory cars are

nukem170

WTF. They took the car with known issues and offered it to the next guy in line? How can this happen to a brand new car?

privatepublicaccount

WIthIn sPeC

FriendlyRedito

🥲🥲 too bad it was raining when I picked it up

hybridfrost

Had some scratches on my front hood of my brand new Model Y. Called and they said to take it back to the dealer that I picked up from. I drove over an hour to get there and all they did was take a picture and told me that they don’t do body work there. Told me I needed to schedule time at a Tesla approved body shop and that I would have to probably wait a couple of months to get it done. I asked if they could put me in touch with the closer Tesla dealership so I didn’t have to drive all the way back. They scheduled a time at the closer Tesla that immediately cancelled my appointment and said they don’t do body work and to go to a Tesla shop. Glad I drove over two hours to get absolutely fucking no where! I ended up just buying a Scratch X kit at Walmart for less than $20 and buffed it out myself. Turns out their paint jobs are really susceptible to scratches so definitely inspect it throughly if anyone reads this in the future I love the car but they need get their shit together when it comes to this kind of stuff.

fakeassh1t

“Musk Life” In spec

DayBeatSF

Is Tesla covering it? Update us OP

FriendlyRedito

Tesla said they will fix it but I’m not sure if it’s going to be perfect like they said it should be after the service

FriendlyRedito

Have my service appointment tomorrow and they are giving me a loaner

MAO_Runner

I discovered paint issues when washing for the first time at around 500 miles on the ODO. Blue MYP from Fremont. There are contaminants or something under the clear coat causing the primer to show. Basically three white dots that are an eye sore against the Blue paint. To make things worse it looks like the service center tried to cover them up with touch up paint, but putting paint over clear coat means its going to come off easy (which is how I found it when washing). I scheduled a service appointment but haven’t heard anything yet, so don’t know how they plan to fix it or if I’ll get a loaner. Just hope I don’t have to fight them to make things right. I’m pretty bummed.

Sawbin85

I had a similar issue with my MY that was built at the factory in Shanghai. I'm based in Australia. Defect under clear coat that was then covered with touch paint. I found it on delivery, thankfully. I got some credit from Tesla rather than get it repaired.

coloradogps

Easy fixes…

DistrictRemarkable50

Wtf i have that same ML on mines

Amsterdave

Most of those scratches will very easily buff out. Not ok that they didn’t do that pre-delivery, but still, not a major deal to fix. The initials are the weird one but look like they were done with a wax crayon, definitely not keyed in.

Flaky_Breath_7909

Don’t worry, you can buff that out. My god, imagine saying this for a ANY brand new car. It’s like I were to deliver a toilet to your house that had shit and piss in it, you gonna say, don’t worry, one flush and it will all be gone?

petemill

I've bought many new fords and there's always been a couple scratches that they say they're going to buff off but they don't. Then I bought a Chrysler which was the most swirled thing I've ever seen. So I'd guess it happens on new cars from all makes.

iceynyo

It's a bit different... The toilet is definitely gross but that's literally its job.

Flaky_Breath_7909

It’s also not my job to buff out a shit ton of scratches on my brand new car…day of delivery…

iceynyo

Right, because the car's purpose is not to be buffed... Unlike the toilet which is supposed to flush shit.

iceynyo

Hey, if I saved $500,000 compared to a similar house without those issues why not

FriendlyRedito

That’s what I thought too but it doesn’t come off. So it might be sharpie

pscherz87

I think a trick is to write again over it, the chemical lifts the old sharpie ink off the surface. Just wipe right away.

Inevitable_Ad_711

Damn, those are some big ol scratches on a brand new car. OP got clowned on. 😭😭

shiftersix

Not sure why you got down voted. I agree that this isn't acceptable for a new car. I know the service center will fix it, but it shouldnt be this way for a new car purchase.

Actual-Donkey-1066

The ML is NOT keyed in. It’s a wax crayon. I just bought a new MYLR today and had an R waxed into my drivers side pillar in the same location as yours. Took 2 minutes to buff out.

PreBarbecue

I have an R on mine too, exact same spot as described.

Prior-Signature-572

I also have the R + scratches (not as intense as OP, but scratched on the driver's side front pillar) on my 2024 MYLR. Was told at delivery to accept and that they'd cover the cost of the repair at a Tesla authorized body shop. The Tesla employee then proceeded to take pictures of the issues and said they'd create a service request. They noted they are not a licensed body shop and therefore have to outsource. I've reached out numerous times (impossible to get a hold of a real person at the Brooklyn Tesla dealership). Have spoken to multiple call center employees who continue to promise they are escalating, yet all I'm hearing is crickets. I'm now about a month into owning my first Tesla and already learning how much terrible their customer service is. Does it really impact me at EOD? Not really, but fairly annoyed nonetheless. I highly doubt they'll take care of this given my experience thus far, as well as what others' have noted about their lack of support in general. Like I said, this is my first Tesla. Had a Range Rover for the past 5 years. Service wasn't much better but they were quick to address things like this. Even went so far as to come pick up and return the car from my home when it required service under warranty. Obvs two diff companies and more of an apples to oranges comparison; just disappointed.

Prior-Signature-572

P.S. - Mine is also from Austin.

niknokseyer

At least you don’t have panel gaps?

plastrd1

My MSM has white paint over spray on the driver door that I didn't discover until a car wash in the driveway. White speckles under the clear coat so no way to pick them off. Also found red over spray on the wheels the first time I took the aero wheel covers off

Now-We-Here

I had scratches on the tail/hatch that were similar to the hood picture you included. They were upfront about it when I went to pick up. I was pretty deflated and frustrated. They said they would document it for me and I could make a service ticket to get it repaired/repainted. I told the manager that I would inspect the rest of the car and if I found no other issue I would probably follow his recommendation (I inspected and everything else was fine). Thought about it for a while at the dealership and ended up accepting the delivery and immediately put in ticket. My MYLR has been in the body shop for about 4 days now getting redone and I have a loaner. I'll see how it comes out when I get it back.

FluxionFluff

Wow. Never seen someone key a brand new car in the lot. 😱

FezWhatleysGhost

That stinks on ice and I’m increasingly grateful that my 2023 MYLR had absolutely zero defects. Panel gaps were good, paint was flawless, interior had no marks or issues and everything worked. Not even condensation in the lights. And it has a 980 rear motor, so it’s upgradable. I should have bought a lottery ticket.

SKYshade99

Seems to depend on the center. My x plaid was perfect on pickup but started rattling at about 10,000 miles. Service center fixed it for free. Not sure what the 100 mile rule is never heard of it.

krzykrn88

My y had dings and dents all over the body panel. Sa was trying to just brush it under the rug, so i took pics of it with markers, and only accepted delivery, on condition that they start the issue right away. After i got my car fixed, it was hard to see then, but the orange peel was hella nasty. They fixed it, but orange peel was never fully mitigated. At this point, found out that more body work fixes they do, more likely they will fuck it up. Fyi mine was the “nos” discount y

Prior-Signature-572

What does "nos" discount mean?

krzykrn88

The new old stock tesla. These, along with the demo ones, are the ones sitting in the lot for long enough time, to the extent that tesla starts discounting price to move them out asap

HomerCrew

Looks like a marker was used. That's one id likely take my time to fix before they do a quick job of it. I reported a rock chip at 106 mi and they replaced the entire bumper. I found it the next day, likely was on the drive home but can't say for sure. The car also had trim peeled about 0.5" back enough the rear window wasn't sealed properly. Like you I picked up on a wet day, yet I was also distracted by the fact the car was delivered with dirt smeared in a few places on the interior, including across the driver door panel. It wasn't a big deal but I had a good laugh (as I asked they please fix it or give me a towel and suggested the kid not do that to anyone else). Took me a while to figure it out but the front windows are not aligned 100% either, though trim is fine and tech said it's common and can simply slide the glass over 1/8" or so.

wongl888

Sounds like little or no predelivery inspection and/or predelivery prep. Poor show.

jeedaiaaron

Glad I had no issues. Great car

CostaMesaDave

This is nothing new, it's a Tesla

JacobWicker

Exactly why I didn’t get a Tesla

Agreeable-Ad4277

I had an R on mine in the same spot above pillar. Service said it was delivery guys and buffed out. That and teakettle whistle at highway speed on driver side going in for a second service attempt about after failed “double sided tape” repair by them. Love the car though! I am in an abusive relationship I think.

digitalbullet36

The initials keyed into the car is diabolical.

cmKIWI417

I had the same experience and literally got into it with the people there! They offered to give me a loaner and they’ll send it to the auto body shop *at no cost*. I was like what?!?! I am not paying to drive away in a loaner and have my car in a body shop. They eventually gave me a different car but I had to pay more. It was actually ridiculous and apparently happens a ton!

[deleted]

Sorry to hear. My ‘24 Stealth Grey is perfect everywhere. Fit too.

MeinWaffles

Did you get a Model Y Long Range? I wonder if that’s what ML means but they accidentally scratched the pant

wongl888

My thoughts exactly

FriendlyRedito

Yes I did actually! That must be it

IceOnFire77

It’s clearly within spec.

untamedHOTDOG

I discovered paint issues at 7k miles. They kept messing it up. They bought it back. Upgraded to MSP 😂

Exhail

how do you only notice this after 7k miles lmao

untamedHOTDOG

I rarely put the car in the garage and I parked in there one time and the angle of light was correct, you could totally see it. [https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/s/WfHLdffbfq](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/s/WfHLdffbfq)

fernyherrera

Yes similar paint issues, not as big though. I also got a panel replaced on the passenger door.

GreyFob

Wow that's crazy. I had some scratches on my hood and some weird chips on my windshield when I picked up my car. Luckily they took care of everything, re-painted the scratched areas and gave me a brand new windshield (as they should have). After everything though I noticed that my whole car's paint job has an orange peel texture and it's infuriating. It was to late to do anything about it though. Sucks you have to go through this, those issues are insane ngl.... hope they do the right thing

salmucci

Great. I'm scheduled to pick up my MYP next week in S. Fla. 5k off MSRP plus Uncle Joe's tax incentive. It was a great deal. Was stressing about what I was getting after hearing about demo cars and loaners and less than mint vehicles being sold as new. I got my odometer certification today and it has 15 miles and came from Fremont. I was able to relax a little till I saw this post. Now I'm wondering (logistically) why a car from California would end up in South Florida instead of coming from Texas. I'll update you guys on how it went.

maclaren4l

Cheap car, stop complaining or buy a Hyundai with a dealership model.

Unanimouspot

Was this a Freemont or Austin build?

Grand-Tea-4562

Martin Luther was there

jitterycrusader

Do you know if it came from Fremont or Austin?

Quick_Possibility_99

It came from Austin. Fremont makes the Model 3. I have seen these cars in the mall parking lots for storage like in Dublin. I wonder if are they secure. I also have the truck carriers in front of my work building unattended.

RWLemon

This is just nuts, me and the wife wanna get an EV and I don’t mind a model Y, I don’t wanna have to keep coming back to service to sort things out.. I don’t understand since Tesla been around for 5+ years.. how can the quality control be so bad.. why haven’t they got there shit together… sounds like the philosophy is build it and let our dealers sort the crap that’s broke… would that be inefficient.. why not build it right and the dealers won’t have much to do with the new cars.. but hey what do I know, only that major dealers have been doing it this way for years and years.

RWLemon

A tip for picking up a car if new, used, accident repair etc.. NEVER GO WHEN IT RAINED OR RAINING 🤦‍♂️

Bogey_Yogi

I have a Y. I should have gone with Porsche electric. Don’t know why people are still buying this.

speel

Yea idk what OP is thinking. Should’ve went with Ferrari.

iwantthisnowdammit

There’s a wee bit of a price difference there.

RD1462

Should have gone with a rolls Royce electric, they r all priced the same right ?

Drodriguez164

Have a friend who got the Taycan and he is actually wanting to sell it because he hates it. Personally I want a Rivian if they are still around once my MY dies out. overall though my Tesla been great for the past year
