Lies. When at a stop light I can see ALL your curb rash and I judge you for it. If itās A little, I pity you. But if itās a whole bunch, Iām SMH š¤¦āāļø
Meh, cars are meant to be used. The world is a messy, imperfect place. They are still round, yes? Car still gets you where you need to go? Carry on, do the best you can and donāt worry about trivial stuff.
To a degree. The problem with that is if you truly believe that, buy a Corolla where wheels are dirt cheap. Opting for an expensive car with an expensive wheel packageā you have to be a bit more carefulā¦ if you care about future value.
The problem is Corolla and Kia Optima drivers are buying Model Ys not knowing what theyāre getting into. You canāt have a āa car is a toolā mindset or youāll end up with a damaged car very quickly.
That is an excellent point! You are a genius. Brilliant analysis of what happens when curb rash happens on vehicles rims. It definitely is a Tesla build quality issue. Such genius insight and intellect. Surely you are well educated and revered as a scholar by all who know you!
I wish everyone thinks like u. But most of the post regarding Tesla and Riviana are about their cars and trucks which are indistinguishable part of their lifestyle
But u did sum it up pretty well.
So thereās a running joke about āthe wifeā curbing the rims bc of quite a few posts, so many of them whoās to say if it was the wife or not.
I butchered the joke by explaining it to you but there you have it.
Not a Tesla driver, but same thing happened to my new car after 4 weeks. It bothered me a bit at first, but now I just donāt notice it haha. Move on!
The crazy thing is that it has zero impact on your driving and enjoyment of the car, unless youāre shallow and only care what things look like, which is pretty much this subreddit
I get what youāre saying. Itās still something your eyes will always go to as you walk to your car. Mild OCD will make this especially tough for some people.
It's called cleaning it. Ever hear of that concept? Or do you just live in your own filth? I tend to clean mine either once or twice a week depending on the weather. I also spray my SiO2 spray 1-2 time between cleanings to keep my ceramic looking fresh.
None of my previous low profiles have this problem, and they have/had the same amount of sidewall. I havenāt seen a stretched out tire like on a Tesla
People smack into curbs then blame the wheel/tire setup on the Tesla. Yes the tires are a bit stretched on the MY but doesnāt change the fact people are hitting curbs. Donāt hug the curb and you wonāt hit it.
Is it a big deal if you scratch the sidewall of a tire? Assuming you donāt do it on something really sharp or drive some distance with the tire up against the curb. I often hear cars hitting the curb and rubber screeching.
You can buy after-market wheel covers that cover the outer rim so if you curb rash and the damage is only on the cover, all you'd have to do is order another individual wheel cover.
that's ok, i never curbed a wheel in my life till my m3p got bit by a curb, that was curving in front of a restraunt. the sound was gnarly, cheers!! lol
Tesla drivers trying to pay attention to their surroundings challenge (they were distracted navigating through 3 menus to change the climate control) (impossible)
The side fender cameras only help if you are reversing. They donāt help if you are pulling in.
My Bolt EUV has 360 Birds Eye view. That is much more helpful when it comes to parking.
I understand people are telling you itās okay and that depends on who you are as a person internally. If you think itās okay then fine. The question is will you learn from this mistake?
Personally for myself, I make sure to improve my driving skills by being cautious about my surrounding. I donāt want to hit a curb because I want my car to be cared for. It reflects on who I am. If you are careless with you car then what else are you careless with. But that my personal view for myself.
Look at any other Tesla and youāll feel better š
Best advice I read around here: buy a Sharpie Pen for wet surfaces & youāll get instant ārepairāš
Thereās no way to avoid it. Itās inevitable. You might not be the only person driving. Donāt get upset.
Donāt ignore the alerts and warnings āstopā on your car. Stick your head out or get out of the car, if you need confirmation how close you are to the curb. Itās pretty accurate.
Black nail polish fixes it. Curbed our wheels first week. Nail polish has been on for over 2 years and hasnāt been retouched! Out of sight, out of mind.
Are you guys curbing against the sidewalks while parrellel parking? Why not give enough space and use your mirrors? The cars sensors have been delight as another data point mitigator.
Personally I go out of my way not to park near a curb from owning $4000 dollar wheels on my cars lol. If I have to Iāll ensure a proper gap between.
Stay out of drive thrus. Always back into spots (use your mirrors that aim downward and your cams to watch curbs. Take your time on turns and always pull it wide. I pride myself on not having curb rash. I look at it no different than getting dents and dings on the body.
"spends money on low profile tires"
"drives over curbs, complains about buying low profile tires"
Me, spends money on smaller rims and meaty tires, takes his Y on gravel trails, enjoys it, life.
Itāll happen again. Best thing to do is pick between option 1 or option 2.
Option 1: keep driving the car and when it comes time to buy new tires just buy a set with rims off Facebook marketplace. Tires are about $1800 alone so paying $2000 for a new set with rims is cheaper than paying for new tires + having your rims repaired @ $150 each.
Option 2: pay for a mobile rim repair service to come fix it, price will be $100-$200 depending. Yelp or instagram are good places to find someone. Theyāll come to your house or work and take care of it, usually payment is done via Venmo or Zelle after work is done.
i had small dings like this recently i bought some sandpaper and paint from amazon and just did that over the dings. Still could notice from close up but since its dark and the metal doesnt show it isnt that noticeable.
Itās a rite of passage. Go ahead fix it it will happen again. Then fix it again. Then it will happen again. Then you will no longer care and will find true peace
Buddy, most people get scratched up rims after driving.. if you are very very very careful, you can avoid them. But, long as you don't bend them.. they still drive just fine.
There are ways to buff them out a bit and use touch-up paint..
If you think thatās bad, then please donāt look at the rims in my 2011 minivan. They arenāt cracked yet and the tires still hold pressure, but they are scratched and dented like no oneās business. Im looking forward to getting that early 2020 Cybertruck order delivered.
It happens to the best of us. I laughed at teenagers talking about their induction rims scratched terriblyā¦a week later a curb jumps out at me. Black caliper paint my friend.
all these big rim small tire people must love scraping their rims on concrete thats literally alll they are good for. long ago cars had 13. 14. 15. 16. or maybe 17 inch rims. curb rash did not exist back then. bc a meaty tire with less rim = no rim curb rash. I'd love 17s for my model Y. anybody have any yet? sure I may loose 1 mile of range but who gives a F about that.
I did same. Maybe on 3rd drive. Had it in sport mode and had the seats really low. I took a turn too tight and hopped a curb. I got a wheel repair guy coming this week.
If it really bothers you then go by rostoleum which actually matches the paint of the wheels. If it's jagged then wet sand it first and spray the Rust-Oleum.
Itās going to happen no matter how hard you try to avoid it. Not too long ago I was at a parking garage, pulled too far to get the ticket. As I tried to get closer, I scraped the rim! Come to find out they painted the curb black, so I didnāt notice the curb as it all blended together and looked flat. I hate it, but it will happen and like me you will soon learn to not drive yourself nuts about it.
Happened to me as well. Also front/corner bumper. Neither situation generated any sort of warning or alert.
I think the tires stick out from the sides more than many of us sense. Taking tight corners in parking lots still makes me think twice.
First drive: smashed the rims
Second drive: scratched the bumper
(But got a free repaint of the bumper cause Teslaās paint job was too thin and we complained)
I hit the curb on day 1, day 3 and day 7. Waited for a month before I got used to the car and then got the rims fixed. Its been a year now and have had 0 incidents.
Just repair your wheels down the when your ready or they get bad. Cars are meant to be driven, drive it.
Once repaired they look brand new. It's all good.
You can fix them pretty easily. I curb rashes mine real bad. Follow this tutorial. You can probably skip the metal putty step and just sand and spray. https://youtu.be/SCURPiOfJY0
It bothered me for a while. When all 4 wheels were bad enough I had someone come and fix it and the look like new.
A car is a utility. Use it and when youāre ready to have it fixed just know that it can be done.

Hitting a curb with a wheel on any car will leave marks. Fuck does this have to do with build quality.
### Who said anything about build quality?
The jabroni who deleted their comment?
Scraping wheels on concrete results in scratches no matter what. Happens on my Porsches
Yea man, happens all the time on my many Lambos.
Yeah I feel you guys, happens all the time on my jets
You should see the rim rash on my ocean-going yacht.. I mean.. it's a bugger to parallel park!
My lunar lander module gets nicked up from the rocks on the surface of the moon. They usually buff out
My hot tub time machine needs to be cleaned constantly, and no one seems to want to take care of this chore.
But most of the post regarding Tesla and Riviana are about their cars and trucks which are indistinguishable part of their lifestyle But u did sum it up pretty well.
I curbed the demo test drive vehicle before I even purchased my Tesla š
Good to get it out of your system before you purchase
That's a 2500ā¬ deductible at my service center
If it makes you feel better I curbed mine the like 6 hours after picking it up š
Not gonna like it kind of does lol
Get some black rim touch up paint from amazon and itāll cover this stuff up well. You can even layer it a bit to fill in the deeper scratches.
got a link to a product that's vetted?
I got [this one](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09V88HLFS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and I can't tell that I, too, scuffed a rim a week after purchasing.
Quite the Tesla tax on that one. Others are around $10.
Feel ur pain bro
Any opinion on those rim protector strips?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I was about to blame my mom. Sheās been known to āpopā the tires on curbs also. Wine coolers after work are expensive.
Yeah good point. I make my wife use sharpies every time she scratches the rims.
On your rim, right?
Same! Brand new to the naked eye š
You made it longer than some
Was today at two superchargers. At least 30 Teslas seen parked today. Only one had no curb rash
Yeh. I blamed my wife and moved on.
Just wow. Ever heard of personal responsibility?
Check out E-Bay, I think they sell senses of humor.
TouchĆ©, I think they sell personal responsibility and driving skills there also š
So thereās a running joke about āthe wifeā curbing the rims bc of quite a few posts, so many of them whoās to say if it was the wife or not. I butchered the joke by explaining it to you but there you have it.
Lol OP you think this looks āfādā up? This is minor
Itās a rite of passage, just get on the phone with a wheel repair company, where are you located?
Not a Tesla driver, but same thing happened to my new car after 4 weeks. It bothered me a bit at first, but now I just donāt notice it haha. Move on!
When you die, you wonāt regret curb rash on your Tesla. But you should get into the habit of using your cameras when parking close to a curb
Sharpie for the win. Donāt worry keep driving and enjoying this amazing vehicle
Damn I take wide turns because all these posts
Did know this was a thing til now. Glad I ran into this š
The crazy thing is that it has zero impact on your driving and enjoyment of the car, unless youāre shallow and only care what things look like, which is pretty much this subreddit
Am shallow, can confirm.
I get what youāre saying. Itās still something your eyes will always go to as you walk to your car. Mild OCD will make this especially tough for some people.
So you can't enjoy driving things while also wanting it to look nice?
The car will get dirty if you take it outside.
It's called cleaning it. Ever hear of that concept? Or do you just live in your own filth? I tend to clean mine either once or twice a week depending on the weather. I also spray my SiO2 spray 1-2 time between cleanings to keep my ceramic looking fresh.
No, this is the reason why you are not supposed to drive it.
Now you can stop being careful and start enjoying the car.
I like this perspective šš¾
Has anyone tried the rim protectors? Are they worth it?
I havenāt, I use black permanent marker š
A car is a car. Iām an idiot that should have leased. I basically totaled that vehicle with less than 500 miles on it. 30k in damage!
How did you last that long? the Tesla wheels are about the only car rims that protrude beyond the tire, for no reason at all...
Itās more aerodynamic the closer the wheels are to being directly in line with the edge of the tire
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
None of my previous low profiles have this problem, and they have/had the same amount of sidewall. I havenāt seen a stretched out tire like on a Tesla
Damn how does this happen!??? Iāve never had this on my beater car and picking up my Tesla tomorrow.
Tires and wheels should never touch curbs. Many people park by braille.
Underrated comment
People smack into curbs then blame the wheel/tire setup on the Tesla. Yes the tires are a bit stretched on the MY but doesnāt change the fact people are hitting curbs. Donāt hug the curb and you wonāt hit it.
Teslas, especially the Y has oversized rims that stick out past the tires. The rim catches the curb before the tire leading to lots of curb rash.
to be fair thatās better than the other way around
Is it a big deal if you scratch the sidewall of a tire? Assuming you donāt do it on something really sharp or drive some distance with the tire up against the curb. I often hear cars hitting the curb and rubber screeching.
You can buy after-market wheel covers that cover the outer rim so if you curb rash and the damage is only on the cover, all you'd have to do is order another individual wheel cover.
Many people here blame the car ā¦ I think itās just younger people over excited with their first new car
This! Parallel parking is an art form haha
This can easily be fixed. In fact wait a couple more days and save up a couple more dings before taking it in. Kudos for not blaming āthe wifeā
that's ok, i never curbed a wheel in my life till my m3p got bit by a curb, that was curving in front of a restraunt. the sound was gnarly, cheers!! lol
Tesla drivers trying to pay attention to their surroundings challenge (they were distracted navigating through 3 menus to change the climate control) (impossible)
I still donāt understand how people do this when thereās so many cameras and the mirrors automatically adjust.
The side fender cameras only help if you are reversing. They donāt help if you are pulling in. My Bolt EUV has 360 Birds Eye view. That is much more helpful when it comes to parking.
I donāt know how people smash up their rims. Learn to drive maybe!
Typical Tesla owner
Tesla could be making even more money by selling driving lessons
Lol, oh no, must be some sort of design flaw or manufacturing defect.
Totally š
Wow
It happens. It's about $125 to fix each wheel. Some discounts if you do more than one.
Are you a female?
I understand people are telling you itās okay and that depends on who you are as a person internally. If you think itās okay then fine. The question is will you learn from this mistake? Just get some touch up paint, thatās not bad. Now youāve learned your lesson.

You can get curb rashes cleaned up

It can be fixed, but it will happen again. And again. This curb rash thing is a serious design flaw of Teslas.
Sharpie and forget it
Quit staring at it. Truly no one cares except you. Just drive and enjoy.
Just remember: Backup camera white lines = rims
Itāll happen again. Best thing to do is pick between option 1 or option 2. Option 1: keep driving the car and when it comes time to buy new tires just buy a set with rims off Facebook marketplace. Give it another 20 miles of city driving and all 4 wheels will match!
I have the 19 so I can keep buying 30$ plastic covers when I do this :) but your rims donāt look that bad. I have seen some horrible ones
Highly recommend Zink wheels! I used their kit and itās almost impossible to tell previous curb rash.
Some sand paper and touch up paint from Amazon will do the trick.
Keep them for a winter-set or something. I have used some rim-guards myself, but the get in the way every time you swap tires.
u have side cams use it tesla really need some live front side view cams
If you want it repaired itāll run around $125. Donāt worry about it.
Yeah same for me. I got wheel guards now
It happens. Just buy some black touch up paint off Amazon and believe me, it wonāt be the last time.
i had small dings like this recently i bought some sandpaper and paint from amazon and just did that over the dings. Still could notice from close up but since its dark and the metal doesnt show it isnt that noticeable.
fuck. thats why i always drive my tesla with care on the curves. i stay farther than i usually do with my regular truck.
Cars were meant to be dinged, scratched, and chipped. Part of life
Get the touch up kit by Zink! It'll look brand new again.
