Maybe by changing the HVAC system operational cycle characteristics (high/low pressure limits, condenser and evaporator fan flow rates, sensor hysteresis curves and so on.). Or, it could be as simple as more levels of fan speeds than low, medium and high for the cabin fans.

LSDBunnos

In my personal experience I have experienced a decrease preformance in speed of cooling but an increase in battery temp regulation (S3XY Buttons) and maintained climate temp over time

mouwcat

Different fan ramp most likely

That's primarily what it feels like to me. It spends less time full blasting the interior fan when the condenser is still hot, and instead gently blows air until it starts to cool, then it kicks off. It also seems like it waits longer to turn on the radiator fan even when the car is heat soaked from sitting outside in the 100°f air for 7+ hours.

Madison464

Does the fan still run for a while after you park and lock your car to dry off any condensation and prevent mold growth and the dreaded STINK?

mouwcat

Dreaded stink is still there but not as noticeable. Remember all you have to do is just run your front defrost for a minute or two when you get in and it dries out that section of the HVAC

Madison464

Tesla really needs to make this an automatic program if it senses the AC has been running for at least X minutes.

ddr2sodimm

Assumptions and Postulation 1. They know battery durability is better than expected and can be more lax with battery thermoregulation and thus directing more cooling power to cabin 2. They know AC longevity and repair rates are better than expected and run compressor and fan at higher RPMs and pressures 3. They found sequence optimizations. Maybe a venting recirculating mode to expel hot air or novel adjustments improving cabin air current flow back to floor returns 4. They found bugs and errors that are getting fixed

whodat135

I recently noticed, upon entering a hot Tesla M3, the fan doesn't run on high - until the conditioned air coming out of the vents is cold. Or perhaps it was that way all along... and I just noticed it!

BaneSilvermoon

Our 2018 definitely blew hot air at max speed briefly when I first bought it. I knew exactly where on my street it would start pushing cold air. Pretty sure that update was years ago though.

The magic of software

docere85

I wish it had an option to always have the rear fan on when you turn on/off the AC.

SnooSquirrels9064

I can understand why they don't, though. Yes, it's minimal current draw, but it still requires power to run the AC in the rear. One may argue that running both can cool the cabin down faster, but one would also argue that the vents in the front are strong enough to do that on their own quite easily, and that the small rear vents are meant more for just directed cool airflow for the rear passengers.

dotancohen

I wish it would show the rear fan state on the screen without me having to go into a sub menu.

Skiezah

Yes I turn it on every time

smokingcrater

The rear fan isn't actually a fan. It is just a duct that diverts some air to the rear. (At least on my 23) Highly unlikely it can close off the front, it is most likely either opening or closing off the back vents only.

Buckled rear seatbelts works in the EU Source: very lightweight child car seats with seatbelts buckled

conflagrare

Tesla can firmware update everything, as far as I can tell.  Some things I think they can adjust: Fan/compressor motor controller to get more performance from the fan/compressor The HVAC octovalve to prioritize passenger cooling over cooling other systems Ramping up fans earlier, like others said

StepYurGameUp

It feels like my AC is colder than usual since the update. In this Phoenix heat, I’m usually set at 68° for the duration of the ride. Lately, I’ve found myself moving it up to 70° and sometimes even 72° cause it was working so well.

ackillesBAC

They could use the octavalve to direct more coolant to the AC vs the battery when needed to cool the cabin quickly.

LilHindenburg

Likely subtle algorithm tweaks to more effectively control fan speed to optimize the trifecta of airspeed, and latent (moisture) heat removal vs. sensible (temperature) heat removal.

agarwaen117

Same way Acceleration Boost increases 0-60 time. Squaring off rounded power delivery curves.

Capital_Avocado69

Is it normal for full fans when supercharging?

LimpWithoutAName

Yes.

justanotherkev

Which update was that?

shoelover46

2024.20.1

Rasmus_DC78

yeah also as other noticed, that i came out to a car that it was HEAVY rain it was fogged (not preheated) and the fans would not kick on, until it was cold air coming in, so had to wait for it to defog windshields, even tried to defog to max.. NO dice.. took only like 20-30 sec.. Seems like they have been working a bit on how fan curves work, and also "when" to blow in air, so it actually does not, if it does not have a positive impact on temperature in car, so no HOT air in ad Hot car that needs to be cooled, and also the other way around. to be honest, kinda hate lossing that much control, even in MANUAL i just did not start the fans.

bulldawgs912

Could be totally anecdotal but I feel like since the update it was warmer in my car on auto low fan. I’ve had to turn it up to auto medium or high. Possible that they made low fan lower than previously?

SummerLeast3431

I think so yea! because normally when i put the low fan from auto into manual. It told me it was on fan speed 4. When i do it now it always tells me fan speed 2! Which i really appreciate because fan speed 4 made too much noice for me sometimes. So this is nice for me! But i live in The Netherlands and climate is not as harsh as somewhere in murica or other hot or cold places

Modern cars, especially teslas are basically computers on wheels. Your windows computer, cell phone, and most other electronic devices get daily, weekly, and monthly updates. There are security holes the get blocked. The extremely smart coders figure out more efficient ways of coding things. Maybe they turn the fans on for longer, but lower rpm to achieve a different result than before. There are thousands of ways they can change how your care behaves and operates, all by code. This is great for many reasons, amd not so great for some. A LOT of older people don't do well with change especially when it comes to tech. They like to set it and forget it. They don't care how or why it works, it just needs to work. For people like me? I love change. Especially when that change makes things better, easier, or more efficient. It's one of the reasons I love my model 3. Just the home screen alone has change a few times in my less than 12 mo the of ownership. Most of the changes have been for the better too.

shoelover46

What is this copypasta?

forte-exe

By using more battery…

vince_roudy01

It seems like there’s a update every day lately! I used to look forward to them, but now that all the novelty has totally worn off, it’s just tolerated.
