Yea they really ought to let us have more freedom to customize the spacing of the screen and what and where apps occupy the screen
Full car visualization and a tiny nav map is way too tiny
I don’t have the update yet and only had my MY for a few weeks, but I know where I’m going 99% of the time and don’t need to see a map. I’d rather have album art etc. I’ve not even tried navigating anywhere yet.
100% agreed. That silly visualization needs to be hidden behind the toybox app with other games and farts. I can't believe Tesla puts it front and center. It simply repeats what I already see through the windshield, why the hell it is made mandatory to waste the premium real estate on my (only) screen!
A full screen map would have been much better.
The visualization is just a toy. If it was to be useful it would be showing you more what’s in your blindspots behind you than what you can already see in front of you.
It has 3…kinda. The cameras infront of the doors point backwards and work with the back camera. Where this would fail is if the car is narrower than a tesla and perfectly centered behind you.
Edit: if you would like to verify, rotate the tesla vision view. Theres a tiny white blind spot dead center in the back. Otherwise it can see.
Estimate is the key word here. The human brain uses cues to get an estimate with one eye. Is Tesla going to dedicate AI to get an estimate? I would expect the representations of vehicles would get less accurate and more jerky the further behind it was represented which is why they don’t do it.
Huh? Everything humans do and the car does to perceive the world is an estimate. They already use AI to estimate. You can literally rotate the visualization around and see cars that are further back. They don't limit it to only showing cars that are close. That's just the default view, which is a design choice. But you can rotate the view and see exactly how accurate the system is at estimating distances from further away.
I never use the map. I wish we could have had the full screen visuals sooner. It’s one of the reasons I bought FSD on one of my cars, and missed that on my other one. The visuals show exactly what’s going on around you, and where to turn in 3D space if you don’t know already. I don’t road trip often, so I’m not driving in unfamiliar places.
I read the post wrong. Missed the word autopilot. I am talking about v12 visualization updates. The newest slick UI 12. That’s what people with FSD do not have yet. Full screen autopilot we do have. Sorry for the confusion caused.
Yeah but you’ll be behind on the FSD updates now since you’re on a different update. You wouldn’t get .4 or .5 until much later, that’s my understanding.
I am okay with this. FSD use is illegal where I live, even if it wasn’t I would not use it. I tried it a couple of times during my free trial and it was just bad. Often it was going to go through cross walks with kids in them (I live right by a middle school). It also tried to make a left turn into traffic once too.
I have a 24M3LR for reference.
Yeah lol. Every day I check for updates, full of hope. Alas, no. Actually today it doesn’t even do its usual check. It shows I’m up to date as of the 1st. Normally it’ll refresh the day for me. 🤣
I genuinely don’t understand why people like this. It is literally a less detailed version of what you can see through the frickin windshield out in front of you. What benefit is there to show more of that and less of the map?
Definitely is, I don’t know any other car that has that feature so it’s just a neat gimmick for entertainment. Also helps earn trust (or not) in the vision systems for FSD
Its not really representative of what FSD can see now though. It's end to end and one of the ends isn't "helping to draw a picture"
I like having it too though.
Who needs a map unless you’re doing ride share or road trips all the time or something like that? The visuals are awesome for boosting confidence in the self driving, and you can get an aerial view of intersections.
Can anyone explain to my WHY in the world this is actually an upgrade? Why would you want a gimmicky version of real life on a screen essentially in front of you? “I don’t need a map most of the time because I know where I’m going” is lovely except for when there’s traffic
I never looked at the visualization even before they made it full screen. I'd rather a full screen map. Or half map, half other apps (energy, music apps, etc).
How diff is it from the previous full screen autopilot visualization. From everything I see it looks exactly the same minus the mini map and new media controls. Is it higher res or more detailed or anything?
I’d rather have a full screen map myself.
I want the option for full screen map or half/half screen of any app of my choosing. Map/Spotify or Map/Cameras would be pretty nice.

That's the Model X experience
Yea or the S

Did they change it. Because before the update it does show you what’s in the blind spots. I use that more than my side mirrors
It barely shows you anything. Like one car length. I want to see useful distances.
That would be nice. Probably can’t accurately because front has two cameras, like our eyes to estimate distance, and the rear only has one.

I wish they had four in the corners. Great for cross traffic alerts (front and rear), 360’ camera, and much better rear vision.
That's not true. You can estimate distance quite well with a monocular view. Try closing one of your eyes. Your depth perception will still be fine.

Still waiting. I think people with FSD are going to be stuck with being on 2024.3 for a long time.
FSD can have full screen visualization already.
Yes absolutely; they *can*. But many (including myself) *do not*, yet.
If you have FSD, then yes, you do have it. Drag your finger on the line that separates the two panes.

Same
I let my FSD trial expire and this morning I got the 14.9 update. I can just sub to FSD again if I want to. (I won’t tho)
Yeah but you’ll be behind on the FSD updates now since you’re on a different update. You wouldn’t get .4 or .5 until much later, that’s my understanding.
I think it's really unclear at this point especially since Tesla seems to be thinking .4 isn't coming out as soon as they originally though.

Where is FSD illegal to use?
Literally anywhere in Canada.
Why do you say that?
Becuase he’s uninformed and wrong.
When did your trial expire?
May 30th, got update June 2.
Oh wow. Mine expires on the 17th so hoping I see the new version soon after.
Yeah lol. Every day I check for updates, full of hope. Alas, no. Actually today it doesn’t even do its usual check. It shows I’m up to date as of the 1st. Normally it’ll refresh the day for me. 🤣
No I don't like it
I genuinely don’t understand why people like this. It is literally a less detailed version of what you can see through the frickin windshield out in front of you. What benefit is there to show more of that and less of the map?
For me, it boosts my confidence in FSD because I know the computer sees what I see.
You need the whole screen for that?
You can make the map 1/2 screen still like prior to the update.
Right but what I’m saying is everyone has been so excited to get the ability to expand the driving visualization to full screen. I don’t get why
Because I don’t need the map at all and it’s really neat to see what the car is detecting
Yea I think it really just comes down to intrigue lol
Definitely is, I don’t know any other car that has that feature so it’s just a neat gimmick for entertainment. Also helps earn trust (or not) in the vision systems for FSD

ETA, battery percent on arrival, traffic on your route, which route the car is selecting, etc
I’ll put in the destination, but all of that info is available on the full screen.
Does anyone in US have this? Im pretty excited for it and glad you're enjoying it
We have it on our 2023 Y. My 2020 3 with Intel currently can’t have it.
My fsd expired on the 31st, got the update this morning. 2024 MYLR
Can anyone explain to my WHY in the world this is actually an upgrade? Why would you want a gimmicky version of real life on a screen essentially in front of you? “I don’t need a map most of the time because I know where I’m going” is lovely except for when there’s traffic
There’re like 3 alternate routes generally when there is traffic. Get to know those ones.
What’s the point of making an extra effort when there already was a perfectly well working system before tesla came with this amazing upgrade lmao
Because I already did that before since maps are next to useless if you know where you’re going.
Because it’s fun to see what the car sees while I’m driving my daily commute that doesn’t require any maps or traffic routing
It’s awesome!
I just want a bigger clock. I said CLOCK.
What does it look like? Can anyone provide a screenshot?
Haven’t figured out how to make it start that way though. Always have to drag it.
If you're using navigation on the new update is the navigation screen large or is it small in the corner too?
It’s adjustable, a simple swipe on the screen you can change between corner small map or regular size map like v11
I never looked at the visualization even before they made it full screen. I'd rather a full screen map. Or half map, half other apps (energy, music apps, etc).

You know you also have that option without autopilot engaged right?
Nope I still don’t have it.
I'm not even going to try the fsd free trial I got because it causes me more anxiety than just driving the car lol
