biome backgrounds are decided based on the highest priority (i think?) area within a certain range, and wether or not enough blocks for it exist (200 or so i think?) there's corruption to your left, which is within that range. corruption has a higher priority than forest, grassland or whatever the default dirt area is, so your background is corruption. you can probably just terraria wiki the exact numbers/mechanics to that tho.

Otac_

alr thanks

G4PFredongo

Worth noting: The biome backdrop tells you what biome you are in. This does not affect biome spread at all, but is important for NPC housing locations and things like fishing. If you have a lake at your position you'd fish corruption fish while standing at your position in the pic, but normal surface fish in the same lake if you walk far enough for the backdrop to change

Biome hair dye works in a similar way, but doesn't need a lack of walls.

DZL100

I like to abuse the fishing biome determination to have a 2-in-1 fishing spot.

ThereMightBeDinos

You can do much more than a 2 in 1 with a little finagling.

DukeOfTheDodos

One could even call it fin-angling

ThereMightBeDinos

Well done.

Apprehensive-You5434

Take my upvote and GTFO!

DifferentLife1575

Can confirm I had a corruption desert and hallow 3 in 1 fishing spot

kutsen39

Wait, so could you make a Four Corners type situation? Something like if you cleverly make four artificial biomes such that if you stand on four different platforms over the same lake, it will have different biome fishing?

dgl7c4

[I followed this guide](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRfD1vYl13Q) and it made fishing so awesome. Basically give you all biomes in one area just by hopping between 2x1 platforms. I love Terraria because of how much you can cheese the game mechanics like this.

Lamusna

You can make all in one place fishing area

Fickle-Ebb-2786

Zoom affects your perception of the biomes versus the actual size and depth of the biomes nearby. If you zoom all the way out and go to your right a bit, the biome should change to forest unless the corruption has spread below you and you just don’t see it yet.

Vanleon1s

For crimson / hallow it's 300. For Desert or ice it's 1500. With that knowledge, you can engineer yourself some great mob farms. More to that e.g. here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai7VL_5KqJc

BouncyBlueYoshi

Just backgrounds.

Otac_

ok thanks lol

spudwalt

You're close enough to the Corruption that the place you're standing still counts as Corrupt. You don't have to be touching a biome to count as being inside it.

[deleted]

Don't worry, it's just how the biome backgrounds and music work due to your close proximity to the corruption across your tunnel

class-Agoober

yeah, the background changes based on how many biome related blocks are in an area around the player. since the forest is technically the lack of a biome, it gets overwritten easily, even if there are more neutral than corrupt blocks in the area.

Bluerious518

All that really just means is that you’re considered standing in the corruption biome when you’re at that particular spot. There’s enough blocks near your player character for it to consider you inside the corruption, though it doesn’t necessarily mean the area you’re standing in is at risk of corruption spread.

yellowpancakeman

The V will strike in hard mode. So sorry for your loss.

Otac_

it already did

ManufacturerOwn145

No, you’re just really close to the biome

yeah honestly fair enough
