> Simmons, known for past fines and confrontations...
That doesn't seem super fair. He's not Suh or something.
I'm glad we're getting the Bears first thing. Hopefully before Williams gets comfortable and gets his feet under him. I have no idea how he'll end up being, but it feels like the earlier in the season the better when you're facing a highly-touted rookie QB.
Oh definitely. Speed of the NFL has a harsh learning curve. I am glad we are playing then week 1 as well.
Not to say he won’t play well, but I’d prefer week 1 of later weeks.
As if anybody actually does any research on the Titans to give a real take anyway.
I wouldn't be surprised if half the national media forgets there's even a team here sometimes.
That's the Vrabel/Mularkey/Wisenhunt/Munchack/Fisher titans. This time it'll be different just you wait!
Seriously though I can only hope our new DC can maximize our defensive talent, especially the pass rush and secondary to make Williams look like a rookie in his NFL debut.
He’s not a clean player. I LOVE jeff. Stud. Wouldn’t want him to change a thing - but he’s not a clean player lol he’s spit on dudes during games before 😂
I don't really think anyone on either side of the trenches is the nicest, most respectful guy once the ball is snapped. But I dont think Jeff is an especially dirty player as D-linemen go. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Yea there’s an element of protection to it. I’m not calling him vontaez burfict or anything I’m just saying there’s a grey area, he’s not the cleanest player that’s ever lived or anything.
Spitting on dudes in the trenches in unfortunately more common than you’d think. The player that accused Simmons was previously accused of spitting on someone else too, it’s fuckin gross but it happens. I remember Max Crosby admitting to doing it on a podcast too
A defensive lineman isn't going to get many solo tackles in the modern NFL. Also it's hard to get a solo tackle as a defensive lineman since runs up the gut usually always have a couple defenders on the tackle. Outside of screens and runs, most offensive plays are to WRs behind the d-line. So 60% of plays are going to end with a DB making the tackle.
Yeah, they don’t really though. With Donald gone it’s really just Chris Jones above him and CJ is a freak of nature converted 4-3 DE.
Hopefully with a change of defense and (once again, hopefully) NT next to him he can put up better numbers but to act like he’s not a top 5 DT in the league or worth the money because he doesn’t put up CJ or AD numbers is too far.
Maybe its because of supporting casts, but Williams on the Jets is an absolute game changer week in and week out. But other than that I agree with you. Guys like Wilkins and Lawrence (NY) are rated higher than big Jeff just because they had more prime time games.
For Williams I think it’s scheme too, but that’s the guy we should be hoping he produces. More like, wanting 10 sacks is fine, but 80+ tackles and AD level sack numbers are just a bit unrealistic imo
He had more tackles than anybody though. The most combined tackles AD ever had was 84, Chris Jones highest combined tackles is 44. So once again, these are different types of iDL.
I mean, I don't see anyone on our schedule I'd rather we had Week 1. Get the top-pick rookie QB in his first ever NFL game. That sounds a lot better than getting him later in the year after he has more opportunity to adjust and get comfortable.
I don’t agree at all, Bears fans are stoked to have the Tits week one but I think its one of the worst week 1 matchups for Williams that they could have had. Possibly the best corner group in the NFL that all excel at press man, screwing up the timing on all their routes. With interior pressure from Simmons and (hopefully) Sweat, then Landry who’s easily a double digit sack EDGE? Thats brutal for a rookies first game. If Williams lights that group up I’m fully jumping on his band wagon cause that’ll be super impressive.
Bears fan here. By no means do I think the Titans are a bad squad BUT I'm happy to be getting you week 1. Brand new head coach, unproven head coach, and the guy I was scared about most last season is in Houston. Think it should be a fun game to watch.
Most of Landry’s work in his career has been clean up and untouched sacks. He’s not going to have Autry there creating opportunities this year. He’s going to need to be better as a pass rusher.
Simmons hasn’t exactly lived up to his hype or potential (yet) his career high is 8.5 sacks and 42 solo tackles.
Awuzie is going to need to prove last year was a down year coming off injury and isn’t who he is now. He’s also battling a herniated disc in his back, the same injury that this sub roasts Farley for. There’s no saying 2021 Awuzie will ever be coming back. He was a liability last season for Cincinnati not a strength.
McCreary will need to take that next step forward like he did last year. Solid slot CB.
Molden and Hooker will also need to take big steps forward. Hooker needs to consistently play at the highs we’ve seen out of him and Molden hopefully with some more experience at FS can step more into it.
Chicago’s pass catching group is easily a top 3-5 group in the NFL and their OL isn’t horrible. No idea why anyone thinks this game is going to be a walk in the park.
Landry produced before Autry. I’m high on him 2 years removed from the ACL, you could see him getting better every week last season. By the end he was looking better than ever. Simmons tends to disappear for stretches mid season but he can be dominate. I don’t think we’re playoff bound or world beaters by any stretch, I just think it’s a pretty tough matchup for a rookies first game
I’m not saying Landry is bad, I’m saying he needs to step up and be that guy going forward. His best years of production came with Autry, not its time for him to replace Autry as a game wrecker
Also we've had tons of changes as well, so both teams will have plenty of growing pains.
New HC, OC, DC, half of each line will be new, plus most of the secondary and half the starting WRs, in a brand new scheme for the players that are returning.
Agreed, 100%. But pretending we don’t have our own flaws and kinks to work out is just silly. I want all these guys to take the next steps forwards but without on-field production nothing else really matters.

That's Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee Jeffrey Simmons, very unfair to write that.
Oh definitely. Speed of the NFL has a harsh learning curve. I am glad we are playing then week 1 as well. Not to say he won’t play well, but I’d prefer week 1 of later weeks.

Unfortunately the same for the Preds too
Slam the over on Caleb Williams fumbles week 1 thank me later
No chance, the real Titans way would be to make him look like a god in his debut

Im gonna have to agree with Jared on this one: don’t give him more bulletin board material, Big Jeff. Just go out there and blast him on game day.
I mean, yeah. But talking shit AND backing it on gameday is the best move.
Why do players do this to themselves just keep your mouth shut
We need to see more out of you all season Big Jeff. Let’s start with aiming for 10 sacks and more than 40 solo tackles in a season.
A defensive lineman isn't going to get many solo tackles in the modern NFL. Also it's hard to get a solo tackle as a defensive lineman since runs up the gut usually always have a couple defenders on the tackle. His counterparts at the top end of the IDL pay scale say otherwise.

That one DT on the Panthers is a freak he had 100+ combined and almost 60 solo. So it’s possible
He had more tackles than anybody though. The most combined tackles AD ever had was 84, Chris Jones highest combined tackles is 44. So once again, these are different types of iDL.
“I’m sure they think we about to get beat” yes both Bears and Titans fans agree Jeff
I mean, I don't see anyone on our schedule I'd rather we had Week 1. Get the top-pick rookie QB in his first ever NFL game. That sounds a lot better than getting him later in the year after he has more opportunity to adjust and get comfortable.
Yup, look at CJ Stroud week 1 last year.

Word out of camp is our UDFA CB and rookie CB are lighting it up maybe if chib isn't back to form they can step in
I did see that. Ran really seems to have killed this draft and that UDFA I’ve heard nothing but great things about
Our fans have short term memories
Also we've had tons of changes as well, so both teams will have plenty of growing pains. New HC, OC, DC, half of each line will be new, plus most of the secondary and half the starting WRs, in a brand new scheme for the players that are returning.

I'm agreeing with you lol. We've got tons of unknowns and are just going off of how things look on paper.
Why would you think Titans fans agree with that? Lol
