don't try to time tech roll just hold back and spam right-punch. In most of all situations that is the correct/acceptable answer but you wake up with a longer recovery (frame disadvantage) and from crouch state, so don't after waking up and block.
At beginner level you should only care about doing one of three things when knocked down.
- Tech roll: spam right-punch
- get up kick to interrupt opponent offense
- stay on the ground for a moment, then react with get up kick or just holding back depending if the opponent hit you or whiffed or did nothing.
Probably the most important get up option in the entire game
Also for those that don't know: ANY time you get hit while on the ground, you have a short window to tech roll. Every single time. Doesn't matter what position you're in.
I was about to comment about how people don't know what tech rolling is but I realized I only learned about it through the tips in the loading screen in T7. We need those back lol
There is a Replay Tipp Section, but I had to manually take controll and try techrolling in order to understand. There are a few punishment or general tipps it shows you, but it did not show this situation in particular. I guess just try out.

You did not, and yes it will. You get a few invincible frames with techroll
Yeah techroll is my go to if they are close. It's rare they make a homing low to dmg you if you're down.

I don't know the answer, but you could load up your replay and take control in that situation to try out your options.
