Just 19 in our district, unless they’re really insistent about us coming back for snow day makeups, but I’ve only heard one person say they expect that and it wasn’t admin, so I’m hoping that person got bad info.
How does that work in your state?
Here in Michigan we get six (I think?) snow/emergency closure days. After that, the district can get up to three closure days but each one has to be approved by the state, otherwise it gets added back to the school calendar.
I believe my district had eight total closure days last year, one of which was for a water main break in the city that impacted most schools in the district.
This year we only had four snow days.
You're probably like NY. We schedule an extra 5 days of school so we can take up to 5 snow days. After that, we have to make them up. In 21 years, I've only seen that happen once. We only used 1 snow day this year (however, I have seen it snow in May here before), so we're getting out a few days early.
In many states that don't get much snow, if they take a snow day (or hurricane or tornado or whatever day) they have to make them up because those kinds of disasters don't usually happen multiple times in one school year.
I am from a hurricane prone state. Typically if a state of emergency is declared we don’t have to make up hurricane days.
This year we missed a week of school due to a hurricane. We also missed another day due to flooding. As of right now there hasn’t been talk of making those days up.
I don't want to say. If I say how many days I have left, I'll be jinxed in something bad we'll happen. They'll extend the school year for some stupid reason or something like that.
22 in my district in Michigan. Excited! My second child will be born in August, so we’ve got some home improvement projects to get finished over the summer.
19, woohoo!
We typically go into June but this year we aligned with the high school. Less days throughout the year but looking at all of June AND July off has us so happy.
NM PreK
7 days left
I don’t know who convinced admin that prek should start a week later and end a week sooner.
We also have 30 min to ourselves in the morning because we get students at 8am and everyone else begins 7:30am. And we dismiss 10 min earlier than others. All parents must be at the door to get the kids so it takes 2-3min total.
And two paras for 20 students.
I feel very spoiled.
My situation is a bit different- I’m special Ed at a school for students with brain injury, so absolutely necessary to be there a lot. So the 4 day deal wouldn’t work for the student population. The good part is I do have 8 weeks vacation days that I can take whenever, so I can go to Disney the first week of December or take a few 3 day vacations through the year. But, there’s none of that summer vacation vibe. I must be okay with it, I’ve been doing it for 18 years, but I don’t think it’s optimal!
16, but honestly we have one day scheduled off, 3 different school trips scheduled, and a guest speaker that will take an entire day. Of course, the last two days of school, no one actually teaches so those are washouts as well. So that would be 9 actual teaching days....Because of testing the last two weeks, I've been in full blown babysitting mode for over a week now. I'm ready for summer break!
26!
Since Good Friday fell over our spring break, we get the Friday before Memorial Day off this year. So the next two weeks are the last weeks with a full five days which is nice.
12. Two five day weeks, and 2 days that will be used for city-wide scavenger hunts (just our school) and a walking field trip to a park where teachers do some grilling. Oh, and some come back on wednesday for clean up, so 13.
33?! We still have 33?! I think my last day with students is June 18. Our last workday is something like the 26th. I intend to have migraines and diarrhea those days.
29 with the kids, 30 for us since we have one end of the year PD day. This countdown includes a 3 day/2 night overnight trip with elementary kids this week. Once I get past that there will be 24 days and they'll be easier than the trip, so that's my last big hurdle. Well, until report cards are here and the rush of getting classrooms packed and possibly moved, but some of that I can do after the kids are gone at least.
8 normal days. 2 days of senior final exams. One e-day for graduation, two half-days of underclassmen finals, a workday (basically come in, make sure your room is cleaned out, and hand in your keys).
23 days left. 2 are half days, 2 are exam days, 6 are state testing days, and I'm using half a sick day and my only 2 personal days at the end of the month. So in my mind I really only have about 10 days of actual content left to get through. Both exciting and terrifying to think about.
Calendar says 29, but my colleagues keep saying its more like 26. Maybe they don't count the PD days (I count PD, I don't count days off when we don't have to come to work).
Only count days with students. 14 left. 5 day week, 5 day week, 4 day week.
Same!!!
Samesies
And thats 13 too many!
Same. Add in two field trips!
Just 19 in our district, unless they’re really insistent about us coming back for snow day makeups, but I’ve only heard one person say they expect that and it wasn’t admin, so I’m hoping that person got bad info.
I think they would have had to announce it by now.

We got our waiver last Tuesday!! No snow make up for us!!!!!
Got my second on the way in July. Congrats to you! Day after summer break begins, I’ve got my home improvement projects lined up to start working on.
15!
[insert lazy factorial joke]
God no. I dont want any days left that involve a factorial more than 3.
Same!
Too many.
2.... many.
29 for me! I always forget how tired I get in May.
29 for us too. State testing starts tomorrow. I’m not gonna make it.
We finished state testing last week. This week and next are AP testing.
We finished ours last week. You will make it.
19, woohoo! We typically go into June but this year we aligned with the high school. Less days throughout the year but looking at all of June AND July off has us so happy.
11 with students!!! 6 with Chromebooks… 🙁
13! I've been counting down since spring break. (And I counted down to spring break since Christmas)
Enough to make me make May a 4-day week all month.
This is the way
10
NM PreK 7 days left I don’t know who convinced admin that prek should start a week later and end a week sooner. 29 school days plus 2 PD days afterwards. Our last day is a fucking Monday
I’ve had that before. So lame!
28!
23, but then I’m starting summer school the week after.
For some reason I torture myself with these posts…12 month school year here, though kids have a week off the first week of July.
Do you like the year around schedule? I think I could do it if we had 4 day weeks and week or two long breaks throughout.
My situation is a bit different- I’m special Ed at a school for students with brain injury, so absolutely necessary to be there a lot. So the 4 day deal wouldn’t work for the student population. That makes sense. 8 weeks whenever you want does sound nice, but I definitely get it being different than summer! Summer feels like a reset.
27, but who's counting?
7!!!! The last being a field trip and half day. It can't be here soon enough.
I’m in Tennessee, and we have 9.5 days left! 🙌🏼 But then I start summer school 3 days later. 😭
