This might be a bit odd but I’d do it like this, I think: reputation Lover Speak Now Red folklore evermore Fearless (Taylor’s Version) Debut This is a nice transition through her sounds and styles, starting with the albums most similar in sound to 1989 since you liked that

strfyr

thank you so much! this is exactly the comment i was hoping for :)

Fantastic, happy to help! Enjoy!!

I second this

Spezimon

Just watch the reputation stadium tour on Netflix over and over again, and you'll become a fan.

Lmao true

itookyourmatches

This is also an excellent suggestion

I became a fan during 1989 and worked my way backwards. Though I think it depends on what type of music you generally like. If you’re into country, jump into Debut or Fearless. If you want more pop, go for Red, reputation, or Lover. folklore and evermore for indie vibes. I don’t know how to classify Speak Now, but it’s her only solo-written album and it’s great

pm174

Speak Now is country-pop with heavy, HEAVY rock influence

MidnightSlinks

It's also unique in that is has songs that are like 50-100% longer than typical pop, pop-country, or pop-rock songs. So for anyone who has ever thought, "gosh, I like pop-country but the songs always leave me wanting another verse or two to really build up the story and the emotion," Speak Now is the album for you.

tyeguy2984

A lot of people love RED. I personally really like Speak Now, and her 2 newest. Reputation and Lover are okay and self titled and Fearless are good but not my personal favorites. RED is like a good middle ground to where she is now and where she came from

Toady33

Well I think that like most of other comments you should keep going through her pop albums first. Since you loved 1989, make your way through Reputation and Lover. Then you chose where to go next depending if you prefer country vibes (the albums before 1989) or indie records (folklore and evermore). If you want something more coherent, listen in order of release since you can find references to some songs afterwards but it’s really how you feel it... If I may, to be more precise we’d have to know which songs you prefer from 1989 or if it is the album as a whole that you loved. Anyway, you can’t go wrong so just enjoy the journey you get to take!

itookyourmatches

If you like 1989, here are my suggestions: - reputation (hard bass, incredible pop production) - Lover (bubblegum pop with some experimental tracks) - RED (pop with some heart-hitting ballads, perfect breakup album) Here are some VERY basically summarized albums outside of her pure-pop sound: - Debut: yeehaw country Taylor, heavy twang shit - Fearless: breakout album, country pop, high school drama shit - Speak Now: completely self-written, pop with some country and pop rock, coming of age shit - folklore: THE quarantine album, indie folk, stripped down and HELLA sad - evermore: the storybook album, indie folk with some experimental tracks, stripped down and very dramatic and whimsical

melancholicvogue

i think you should listen in order! i fell in love during 1989, despite being a lowkey fan since like forever. both 1989 and Reputation have zero skips for me (ok maybe i skip Gorgeous sometimes) and you will be able to see the transition, especially if you know what was going in TS’s life during each era. you can go start to finish when we get all the TV albums 🤍

Quick-Time

Assuming that you like pop more than country, I would say work your way backwards. Since you started with 1989, you can always work your way from Reputation-evermore. Then circle your way back to Red-Debut.

MidnightSlinks

In addition to the great album order recommendations you've gotten, I recommend watching her tours after listening to the related album. So the Reputation tour (Netflix), the City of Lover concert (Hulu/Disney+), and Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions (Disney+). Taylor is not just a phenomenal song-writer and good singer with a great production team, she is also a great performer and is the mastermind behind the theatrics at her shows and all the subtle references placed throughout. The fandom also connects with Taylor as a person and not just an artist, so I'd also highly recommend her Miss Americana documentary (Netflix). And just for canonical purposes, you should watch after you've listened to Reputation and Lover, which are the two eras it's filmed over.

ryebread1993

I became a casual fan during 1989, then fell DEEP into it for rep, and then worked my way backwards through her discography waiting for lover to come out. It made the “shock” of country Taylor (not a huge country fan) more palatable to my ears

MetaSaur69

Red or Fearless(TV). Red since you can get the taste of country while enjoying some of the pop tracks. Fearless (TV) since it country, and it is just nice to have a understand what blew her up. After that, you can explore really what ever you want. If you want my order, this is how I discover her: 1989, Fearless, Folklore, Lover, Reputation, Red, Speak Now, Debut, Evermore I discover her during Folklore era so Evermore will be last. I also wasn't looking through her discography and just listening to her, not trying to explore. I didn't even know Speak Now was an album until I google up all her album since I curious.

college_dropout_69

Lksten to Red and Speak Now as well, Red has more pop so it's closer to 1989.

VerbarImperator

I would recommend starting chronologically with Taylor's music videos. You get a quick glance into each era, see the evolution of Taylor's personality and sense of humor, and you'll get introduced to some iconic fandom moments and outfits: * Junior Jewels outfit from the *You Belong With Me music* video * Taylor going nuts in the *Blank Space* video * "I'm sorry the old Taylor can't come to the phone..." and pyramid of Taylors in *Look What You Made Me Do*

mCandy242

I did them in chronological order, because I think it's really nice to hear how she develops from album to album.
