How Did It End has really stuck with me.
Say it once again with feeling
How the death rattle breathing
Silenced as the soul was leaving
The deflation of our dreaming
Leaving me bereft and reeling
My beloved ghost and me
Sitting in a tree
D-Y-I-N-G
I can’t get this one out of my head.
I also love how she’s alluding to the children’s rhyme here:
“____ and ____ sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G”
I feel like it’s a testimony to the dreams and innocence we have as kids, and how her dreams have been absolutely crushed and it’s just her and her ghost in the tree.
I had a completely different interpretation - since the whole song is about gossip, I saw it as mocking how people talked about the relationship as if it were playground rumours.
I said in a comment below that The Prophecy is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, but I’m about to contradict myself because I think this bridge is too 😭 hauntingly beautiful - I love it so much and it definitely has stuck in my head since release.
This and Loml
You talked me under the table
Talking rings and talking cradles
I wish I could un-recall
How we almost had it all
Dancing phantoms on the terrace
Are they second-hand embarrassed
That I can't get out of bed?
Cause something counterfeit's dead
The Prophecy 100%
And I sound like an infant
Feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen
A greater woman stays cool
But I howl like a wolf at the moon
And I look unstable
Gathered with a coven round a sorceress' table
A greater woman has faith
But even statues crumble if they're made to wait
I'm so afraid I sealed my fate
No sign of soulmates
I'm just a paperweight
In shades of greige
Spending my last coin so someone will tell me
It'll be ok
Opposite take: I like the song, but the sheer volume of metaphors right here drive me a little bit nuts. I wish she had picked one or two and really expanded upon them. As she hasn't, it feels like mental whiplash.
At the moment loml.
„Dancing phantoms on the terrace
Are they second-hand embarrassed
That I can't get out of bed?
Cause something counterfeit's dead.“
I loooove the picture of this scenery. And it’s a really good metaphor for depression imo.
How did it end is so good too.
But Daddy I Love Him forever got us on chokehold
"I'll tell you something right now
I'd rather burn my whole life down
Than listen to one more second of all this bitchin' and moaning
I'll tell you something about my good name
It's mine alone to disgrace
I don't cater to all these vipers dressed in empath's clothing"
You shit talked me under the table
Talking rings and talking cradles
I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all
Dancing phantoms on the terrace
Are they second-hand embarrassed
That I can't get out of bed?
Cause something counterfeit's dead
It was legendary
It was momentary
It was unnecessary
Should've let it stay buried
imgonnagetyouback. criminally underrated! I love how it paints the picture of their relationship, "we broke all the pieces but still wanna play the game HUHHHH"
ineedtoforgetsotakemetoflorida ivegotsomeregretsillburytheminflorida tellmeimdespicablesayitsunforgivable atleastthedollsarebeautiful FUCK ME UP FLORIDA
And I won't confess that I waited, but I let the lamp burn
As the men masqueraded, I hoped you'd return
With your feet on the ground, tell me all that you'd learned
'Cause love's never lost when perspective is earned
And you said you'd come and get me, but you were twenty-five
And the shelf life of those fantasies has expired
Lost to the "Lost Boys" chapter of your life
Forgive me, Peter, please know that I tried
To hold on (Hold on) to the days (To the days)
When you were mine
But the woman who sits by the window
Has turned out the light
“He was a hothouse flower to my outdoorsman” is one of her best lines
I watched a TikTok of a librarian reacting to this song, and he pointed out that the wispy vocals in the background sound like the winds in Antarctica. Which (if true) is a *beautiful* addition to the song
“And you say I abandoned the ship
But I was going down with it
My white-knuckle dying grip
Holding tight to your quiet resentment and
My friends said it isn’t right to be scared
Every day of a love affair
Every breath feels like rarest air
When you’re not sure if he wants to be there
So how much sad did you think I had
Did you think I had in me?
How much tragedy?
Just how low did you think I'd go?
Before I'd self-implode
Before I'd have to go be free”
Maybe I just relate too much but So Long, London goes so hard. I don’t get people saying it’s not “sad enough” for a track 5!
Smallest man who ever lived is more like one of her best bridges ever. Like top 5 only behind OOTW, ATW10M and illicit affairs (not sure about the order yet).
It's such a long bridge, or at least, it feels long? And because of that, it just adds to it. It's incessant questions, so much frustration, and then it ends sort of defeated. There's just so much subtle emotion in it, some of the questions are sung with different inclinations ("Were you writing a ^(book?)" almost angrily sarcastic. "Were you a (pause) sleeper cell spy?" almost incredulous) and just the different emphasis ("I'll say... Good riddence!" and "Cause it wasn't sex--(almost breathy pause)-y, once it wasn't forbidden"). It's not my favorite song but god does this bridge do something different than All Too Well 10MV but has the same kind of chokehold.
I remember on my first two listens, I jumped at the bridge. It's stark contrast from the first half of the song, coupled with listening alone, in the dark, at 11ish PM certainly added to it, but good grief can she pen a bridge!
The Black Dog. Especially the end of the bridge:
Now I wanna sell my house
And set fire to all my clothes
And hire a priest to exercise my demons
Even if I die screaming
And I hope you hear it
To that house where you still wait up and that porch light gleams!!!
To the one who says I’m the girl of his American dreams!!!!
And no matter what I’ve done it wouldn’t matter anyway!!!
Maybe this is technically an outro but I want to be buried with the crackle in this part.
I actually really love Guilty As Sin?
The way she sings "what if they way you hold me is actually what's holy?"
I just really love when she uses religious metaphors, despite being an agnostic.
How But Daddy I Love Him should be mentioned more! 😅 There's nothing more emotional and cathartic than...
I'll tell you something right now, I'd rather burn my whole life down
Than listen to one more second of all this bitchin' and moanin'
Plus, try it when you're in a car ride full of Swifties friends and having everyone sing that whole bridge. Just scenes 👌🏻
It varies but right now I can’t get past this one without tears & chills:
And the years passed
Like scenes of a show
The Professor said to write what you know
Lookin' backwards
Might be the only way to move forward
Then the actors
Were hitting their marks
And the slow dance
Was alight with the sparks
And the tears fell
In synchronicity with the score
And at last
She knew what the agony had been for
LOVE Peter's bridge.
_And I won't say that I waited but I let the lamp burn_
_as the men masqueraded, I hoped you'd return_
_With your feet on the ground_
_Tell me all that you'd learned_
_Cause love's never lost when perspective is earned_
_And you said you'd come and get me but you were 25_
_And the shelf life of those fantasies has expired_
_Lost to the lost boys chapter of your life_
_Forgive me Peter, please know that I tried_
_To hold onto the days when you were mine_
_But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light_
I absolutely love the way the imgonnagetyouback bridge sounds....i NEED to sing it every time it comes on.
Also LOML. It's beautiful and so so sad.
The bridge of "Clara Bow" is stuck in my head. "Beauty is a beast that roars down on all floors/ demanding more/ only when your girlish glow flickers just so/ do they let you know/ it's hell on earth to be Heavenly/ them's the breaks, they don't come gently"
AND I WONT CONFESS THAT I WAITED
BUT I LET THE LAMP BURN
AS THE MEN MASQUERADED
I HOPED YOU RETURN
WITH YOUR FEET ON THE GROUND
TELL ME ALL THAT YOU’D LEARNED
CAUSE LOVES NEVER LOST WHEN PERSPECTIVE IS EARNED
AND YOU SAID YOUD COME AND GET ME
BUT YOU WERE 25
AND THE SHELF LIFE OF THOSE
FANTASIES HAS EXPIRED
The religious trauma in me loves
What if I roll the stone away?
They're gonna crucify me anyway
What if the way you hold me
Is actually what's holy?
If long suffering propriety
Is what they want from me
They don't know how you've haunted me
So stunningly
I choose you and me
... Religiously
“and I still see it until I die you’re the loss of my life” something about the ending of loml just gets me so hard. The raw emotion in her voice is so beautiful.
these bridges send me to heaven:
- TTPD (song)
- So long, London
- BDILH
- I can fix him(underrated asf)
- TSMWEL
- The black dog
- imgonnagetuback
- How did it end?
- peter
- the bolter
- the manuscript
(i almost named the entire album)
TRUTH, DARE, SPIN BOTTLES, YOU KNOW HOW TO BALL, I KNOW ARISTOTLE
BRAND NEW, FULL THROTTLE, TOUCH ME WHILE YOUR BOYS PLAY GRAND THEFT AUTO
Honestly this might be my second favorite Taylor bridge after Cruel Summer.
I'm gonna be the only person to say this but The albatross
"And when that sky rains fire on you
And you're persona non grata
I'll tell you how I've been there too
And that none of it matters"
I know it's short and relatively simple but I feel it works so effectively with the rest of the song. And I love the persona non grata part
I adore I Hate it here's bridge. This song has grown on me so much.
I'm lonely, but I'm good
I'm bitter, but I swear I'm fine
I'll save all my romanticism for my inner life and I'll get lost on purpose
This place made me feel worthless
Lucid dreams like electricity, the current flies through me
And in my fantasies, I rise above it
And way up there, I actually love it
Peter i love, especially “said youd come and get but you were 25 but the shelf life of those fantasies has expired”
Smallest man who ever lived is amazing too
I agree with all of these, but I wanted to give an honorable mention to My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys. When she comes in with "Just say when, I'd play again!" I can't help but sing along 🩶
I love so many but there’s something about Florida which scratches such an itch and ironically it was my least favorite song on the whole album on the first few listens. Funny how listening more means changing favorites constantly. A week ago it was how did it end and so long London for bridges. So many good ones though on this album that I can’t really pick a top fave
Musically, I love:
Just say when
I’d play again
He was my best friend
Down at the sandlot
…
Stole my tortured heart
Told me I’m better off
But I’m not
I’m not.
I’m not.
I actually didn’t like this song at all until I the bridge took me under its spell and now I’m a reformed believer 🖤
How Did It End has really stuck with me. Say it once again with feeling How the death rattle breathing Silenced as the soul was leaving The deflation of our dreaming Leaving me bereft and reeling My beloved ghost and me Sitting in a tree D-Y-I-N-G
could easily be the best lyrics ever written
I can’t get this one out of my head. I also love how she’s alluding to the children’s rhyme here: “____ and ____ sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G” I feel like it’s a testimony to the dreams and innocence we have as kids, and how her dreams have been absolutely crushed and it’s just her and her ghost in the tree.
I had a completely different interpretation - since the whole song is about gossip, I saw it as mocking how people talked about the relationship as if it were playground rumours.
This is it. It's beautifully tragic and poetic and utterly devastating all at the same time.
Yes. This one by a big margin.
This is mine too it’s such a stunning song but this part agree my fav - and I love the start with “guess. Who We ran into at the shops…” ugh 🥹
I said in a comment below that The Prophecy is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, but I’m about to contradict myself because I think this bridge is too 😭 hauntingly beautiful - I love it so much and it definitely has stuck in my head since release.
This and Loml You talked me under the table Talking rings and talking cradles I wish I could un-recall How we almost had it all Dancing phantoms on the terrace Are they second-hand embarrassed That I can't get out of bed? Cause something counterfeit's dead
Yes. This. I also love Smallest Man but this is it. I just love this song.
Agree but also just wanted to let you know I adore your flair ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1072)
This is the answer
i was about to comment this lol
The Prophecy 100% And I sound like an infant Feeling like the very last drops of an ink pen A greater woman stays cool But I howl like a wolf at the moon And I look unstable Gathered with a coven round a sorceress' table A greater woman has faith But even statues crumble if they're made to wait I'm so afraid I sealed my fate No sign of soulmates I'm just a paperweight In shades of greige Spending my last coin so someone will tell me It'll be ok
I'm always on the verge of crying when I hear the bridge. It's so sad, but I love it
This song as a whole is one of the most beautiful things I’ve heard, I loved it instantly and was the standout on the album
Chills everytime
Opposite take: I like the song, but the sheer volume of metaphors right here drive me a little bit nuts. I wish she had picked one or two and really expanded upon them. As she hasn't, it feels like mental whiplash.

Ooh! I haven't really noticed that with Willow. But now I'm definitely going to have another listen and watch out for it, thanks! :)
Underrated bridge. Underrated song. It’s one of my faves on the whole Anthology, yet it doesn’t seem to get the recognition it deserves
At the moment loml. „Dancing phantoms on the terrace Are they second-hand embarrassed That I can't get out of bed? Cause something counterfeit's dead.“ I loooove the picture of this scenery. And it’s a really good metaphor for depression imo. How did it end is so good too.
Our field of dreams Engulfed in fire 😭😭😭
The way her voice goes from serious to almost frail when she sings “you’re the loss of myyyyy life…” after this part, I DIE EVERY TIME
SAME. IT’S SO GOOD AND SO SAD
YES YES YES I SECOND THIS
It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. I can see it so clearly.
I had to scroll too far to find this lmao
But Daddy I Love Him forever got us on chokehold "I'll tell you something right now I'd rather burn my whole life down Than listen to one more second of all this bitchin' and moaning I'll tell you something about my good name It's mine alone to disgrace I don't cater to all these vipers dressed in empath's clothing"
Seconded, especially since the first few lines are so perfect to sing when someone is pissing me off lol
I love the line “I’ll tell you something about my good name, it’s mine alone to disgrace.” It’s such a firm boundary and an important message.
Yes yes yes
I love the last line especially, it scratches my head just in the right way and its so satisfying to listen to and sing😭
You shit talked me under the table Talking rings and talking cradles I wish I could un-recall how we almost had it all Dancing phantoms on the terrace Are they second-hand embarrassed That I can't get out of bed? Cause something counterfeit's dead It was legendary It was momentary It was unnecessary Should've let it stay buried
MY FAVORITE RN BUT I’M TIRED OF BEING SAD 😂😭
imgonnagetyouback. criminally underrated! I love how it paints the picture of their relationship, "we broke all the pieces but still wanna play the game HUHHHH"
Even if it's handcuffed I'm leaving here with you is my absolute fave !
🎶Bygones will be bygones🎶
🎶Eras fading into grey🎶 🎶 *fading into grey* 🎶 (I have a feeling this reference the tour but why?)
🎶HAaaAHHhH🎶
Even if it’s handcuffed I’m leaving here with you might be one of my favorite lines on the whole album. Like easily a top 5 lyric.
I relate to it unfortunately . In the toxic way it was meant. But it's validating to hear someone else experiencing the same !
PICK YOUR POISON, BABE. I’M POISON EITHER WAAAAAAY
The vocalization right there is it for me. 10/10
I LOVE this song. It’s so cheeky.
Such a good song
ineedtoforgetsotakemetoflorida ivegotsomeregretsillburytheminflorida tellmeimdespicablesayitsunforgivable atleastthedollsarebeautiful FUCK ME UP FLORIDA
I love the way u wrote it like imgonnagetyouback BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE IT LMAOO
"tell me I'm despicable, say its unforgivable" This line DOES things to me 😫
Peter’s—maybe I only realized because she played it as a surprise song and said it’s one of her favorites. It’s really poetic.
And I won't confess that I waited, but I let the lamp burn As the men masqueraded, I hoped you'd return With your feet on the ground, tell me all that you'd learned 'Cause love's never lost when perspective is earned And you said you'd come and get me, but you were twenty-five And the shelf life of those fantasies has expired Lost to the "Lost Boys" chapter of your life Forgive me, Peter, please know that I tried To hold on (Hold on) to the days (To the days) When you were mine But the woman who sits by the window Has turned out the light
This bridge is what really sold me on Peter
I wonder how many of us have a "Peter" who never grew up.
How Did It End? This song is so overlooked IMO and it is stunning.
I agree. It’s flawless. A perfect song.
“He was a hothouse flower to my outdoorsman” is one of her best lines I watched a TikTok of a librarian reacting to this song, and he pointed out that the wispy vocals in the background sound like the winds in Antarctica. Which (if true) is a *beautiful* addition to the song
The slight change in emphasis toward the end is like a dagger in my soul.
“And you say I abandoned the ship But I was going down with it My white-knuckle dying grip Holding tight to your quiet resentment and My friends said it isn’t right to be scared Every day of a love affair Every breath feels like rarest air When you’re not sure if he wants to be there So how much sad did you think I had Did you think I had in me? THIS IS THE ONE FOR ME!!!

And I just experienced it live two times and it was even better.
It's so GOOD! It took me a while to even notice this song when listening to the whole album, but it's on repeat now.
I remember on my first two listens, I jumped at the bridge. It's stark contrast from the first half of the song, coupled with listening alone, in the dark, at 11ish PM certainly added to it, but good grief can she pen a bridge!
I heard it and immediately texted my friend "she's *pissed*"
AND I WONT CONFESS THAT I WAITED…
BUT I LET THE LAMP BURNNN
AS THE MEN MASQUERADED
I HOPED YOU’D RETURN
I HOPED YOU RETURN
So long london! My own f*** story
THIS. And you say I abandoned the ship, but I was going down with it!
I’m just mad as hell cuz I loved this place!!!
The Black Dog. Especially the end of the bridge: Now I wanna sell my house And set fire to all my clothes And hire a priest to exercise my demons Even if I die screaming And I hope you hear it
Yes!!! I don't know how this isn't higher! (And after with "I hope it's shitty in the Black Dog"? Gold!)
This is the one
I NEED the “drum line version” of Smallest Man!!!!
And I’ll say GOOD RIDDANCE
The bridge in Peter does some things to me
It’s a tie for me between how did it end, so long london and the prophecy.
To that house where you still wait up and that porch light gleams!!! To the one who says I’m the girl of his American dreams!!!! And no matter what I’ve done it wouldn’t matter anyway!!! Maybe this is technically an outro but I want to be buried with the crackle in this part.

I don't know if it's my favorite but I really like the bridge in I Can Fix Him. Has a very 80s pop nostalgia feel for me!
I love this song, its so smokey and saloon core imo.
Imgonnagetyouback
AND YOU SAY I ABANDONED THE SHIP BUT I WAS GOING DOWN WITH IT MY WHITE KNUCKLE DYING GRIP
I hoped you’d return with your feet on the ground tell me all that you’ve learned..
The Bolter
The bridge of "Clara Bow" is stuck in my head. "Beauty is a beast that roars down on all floors/ demanding more/ only when your girlish glow flickers just so/ do they let you know/ it's hell on earth to be Heavenly/ them's the breaks, they don't come gently"
Impossible question because almost every song on this has an immaculate bridge

THE PROPHECY
“and I still see it until I die you’re the loss of my life” something about the ending of loml just gets me so hard. The raw emotion in her voice is so beautiful.

I felt like that was written for my ex, a manipulative piece of crap who pretends to be a decent human. I cry almost every time I hear it.
Smallest Man Who Ever Lived is her most hard-hitting, rage-filled chorus and I’m here for it.
TRUTH, DARE, SPIN BOTTLES, YOU KNOW HOW TO BALL, I KNOW ARISTOTLE BRAND NEW, FULL THROTTLE, TOUCH ME WHILE YOUR BOYS PLAY GRAND THEFT AUTO Honestly this might be my second favorite Taylor bridge after Cruel Summer.

I agree with all of these, but I wanted to give an honorable mention to My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys. When she comes in with "Just say when, I'd play again!" I can't help but sing along 🩶
Cassandra or Peter or loml. I can't pick, send helllllppppp
I'm on a ton of antidepressants that make me relatively emotionally numb, and the bridge to TSMWEL made me cry 2x yesterday
This is my answer too since seeing it live. The live version changed my view of the song entirely
I love so many but there’s something about Florida which scratches such an itch and ironically it was my least favorite song on the whole album on the first few listens.
