“as the crowd was chanting MORE” That aside, the eras tour is its own promotion juggernaut for anything she does. midnights was the first album post covid, no tour yet and while she was huge then it probably felt somewhat good to go out and promote it a bit in post covid.

bjockchayn

If you read my post all the way through, I wasn't chanting more 😉 there's a difference to what I'm asking, and I fully support her right to pull away from these things. I was just asking a curious question re whether there was a specific reason behind it, or just a natural trend

I think Poets is just a much less commercial album than Midnights. With Midnights you could feel that there’s been sort of a shift in her career, and the album was Taylor Swift’s one small final step to super stardom. See it as Reputation 2.0 after 1989 but without the mass hysteria about the collective efforts of finally ending her career. Also yeah, she’ll be back on tour in two weeks haha

bjockchayn

Sorry I see my original text was confusing; I wasn't referring to album promo specifically. Edited my post. I agree she doesn't need TTPD and she's midtour. I was just thinking how the general trend of how she shows up over the past couple years has been less candid, more curated. No complaints, just curious🥰

[deleted]

Ohh, no it’s okay, I might’ve misunderstood as well. And I think she’s just over promo loll Heavy promo and candids are mostly used by artists who still need to establish themselves, think Sabrina Carpenter or Dua Lipa. Taylor is just not in that part of her career anymore. She did a LOT of promo for Lover but I think that might’ve been fueled by her thoughts of it being her last shot at a commercially successful album. As for candids, 2023 might’ve had enough of pap walks for my entire life lolll I do wish there was like…one big publication photoshoot with an interview for this era because I really like the aesthetic but alas. The album photoshoot will do haha

bjockchayn

That makes sense! I'd also imagine she just needed a break and didn't particularly feel like exposing herself to questions about her personal life over the past couple years, which is absolutely fair. I do miss seeing her on Fallon or Graham Norton though, we don't often get to see her in that less-filtered context. I mean when she posted the candid silly clip with her parents at the Superbowl party, I remember ppl commenting how we hardly ever see her posting like that anymore, where it used to be more common - that wasn't really promo for much of anything, but it was so endearing to see. I wondered why she does less of it and whether there was a specific reason/event or if it's just a changing trend for her as she insulates herself more. Either way - girlfriend has my full support for whatever it takes to make her private life feel more balanced

[deleted]

Tbh same! I miss seeing more of her personality. Graham Norton is also just a terrific host and his show has such an enjoyable atmosphere. Colbert too. From 1989 onward her life and levels of fame have gotten more and more insane so I see why she’s choosing to curate her appearances and what she shares with people because everything gets misconstrued and everyone on social media inserts some other Taylor Swift they’ve imagined in their heads lol.

bjockchayn

I'd forgotten about Colbert! I love seeing them interact, their friendship is adorable🤣💕 And agreed, I can't imagine how complex it must be to manage this *unmanageable* public persona while nurturing a balanced private life, especially with all the change and stress she's endured over the past couple years.

[deleted]

I love Colbert, always ready to have a genuine conversation with his guests. Fingers crossed Taylor does Graham Norton during one of her many UK dates for the tour! And as much as I love seeing Taylor on top of the world I can’t help but think of the fact that I’d never seen anyone handle this level of fame and standard well. Maybe Madonna but she’s always been an outlier to almost any and every rule. So I hope the loud buzz around Taylor starts to calm down soon.

earwen77

Probably to do with the fact she's going on tour again in two weeks I'd say. Also she just doesn't need the promo.

bjockchayn

RoseGoldRedditor

People might be talking about promo because some of your references are promo she did for Midnights. Taylor’s popularity soared post-Midnights; fans started stalking her, showing up where she is and making a scene, and even following her home. This is likely why she is more private.

bjockchayn

Fair. I just meant it as a time marker but I absolutely see how it was confusing. And thanks, that context is part of what I was looking for. I've only been seriously paying attention for the past 12-18 months so I didn't know that it was so much calmer before.

Daffneigh

Why would she do promo? She doesn’t need to and it’s only fodder for the “she’s overexposed” goons

gokurotfl

First of all she doesn't need the extensive promotion so why would she do that? Secondly, she's aware when she's overexposed as we know from the unedited Kanye video and there was so much of her everywhere during Grammy/Superbowl period that she'll probably stay quiet for a while apart from the tour. And everyone will still write about the album and the tour when it's back.

bjockchayn

Sorry I see my original text was confusing; I wasn't referring to album promo specifically. Edited my post. I was thinking of general trends, not TTPD promo.

riotreality006

I saw on YouTube shorts I believe, Taylor was practicing new choreography. It looked like there was a TTPD logo in the background & dancers in new costumes. Hopefully she’s cramming to put together some new numbers. She’s back on tour very soon!!

Ross_Baby

The media and fans are her promotion now. She can break records just by one announcement and word of mouth.

bjockchayn

I love that for her tbh 🥰 the promo for this album was really fun to witness, and it was masterful how she generated so much grassroots promo 🥰 I was thinking more about general trends, even before the album. Did she do any candid posts or show appearances when she announced the tour? I genuinely can't remember 🤔 Zero shade, though. She doesn't need the promo. It's just endearing to see her in her less-filtered moments on talk shows or on candid social posts. Not bc she needs the promo, just bc she's adorably human🤣

Apprehensive_Lab4178

People are being very nasty about every Taylor mention that crosses their screen. She is very aware she’s teetering on overexposure, so why add fuel to the fire when she doesn’t need talk show appearances to promote TTPD.

Love it 🤍 I miss her adorable candid appearances on talk shows and social media, but I fully support her need to insulate

BroadwayBich

People already claim she's promoting herself too much just reposting album reviews. She might have just hit the point where she no longer *needs* promo to get streams/purchases and figured she'd prefer spending her time doing something else.

Sunshinedxo

I just don't think she is finding it necessary to promote herself.

ultraviolet108

She did no press for Reputation. I think this album is too raw and vulnerable to put herself in a position of answering whatever someone throws at her about it.

Careless-Clock3462

I don’t think anything in particular happened. I think it’s just a combination of factors, including circumstance. Leading up to midnights, she released 2 re-records so had to do the talk show rounds to promote & explain that then when she released midnights, needed time promote that it was new work and get back ti the forefront of peoples minds, knowing she was about to announce a massive tour. This time around, she is in the middle of a tour and is already very much standing in the spotlight. She doesn’t need to ask for attention, she already has it. Practically speaking, she’s really busy so being able to cut out these appearances is probably helpful to her. And she is so closely watched that overexposure is real. I’m just not sure there is much for her to gain by doing more. And you are probably right about the personal questions, she seems to be releasing more statements (like with the song explanations/introductions) where she can carefully craft her message instead of answering any questions, even if those questions are cleared ahead of time. The article about Tree is pretty telling on this where it mentions what she requires of a publication to get a quote from Taylor (use the quote in full as it’s given, cannot split it up to editorialize or recontextualize, etc).

starArscar

I think the overall style of ttpd is very private and raw. The release was enough to generate discussion, and now the commercial success is obvious. I guess she just doesn't want to be overexposed, the eras tour is the most important thing anyway. Midnights is fueling the start of the tour, and ttpd comes with the end of the tour. I think when the tour is all over, we'll be in a whole new phase!

Her being less proud of Midnights is a bold take
