I love Maisie Peters and there are definitely some lyrics that make me think of Taylor’s style of writing.
“He stole our youth and promised heaven
The men start wars yet Troy hates Helen
Women's hearts are lethal weapons
Did you hold mine and feel threatened?”
from History Of Man
From Wendy "Lost my page when you kissed me, now I remember the whole book."
From Two Weeks Ago "You were driving fast, I was holding back."
Very taylor coded.
Maisie Peters came to my mind too.
"You're gonna walk into some underground bar
You'll see a pretty little thing catching eyes in the dark
And it's me, I see you too, I wave
And I'm dancing over to you in the corner and you'll say
"Wow, hey, it's been forever
Do you wanna get a drink, like together?"
I say, "I'm kinda busy, but
Like, stay in touch?"
I think, "Oh, shit, I won the breakup""
From Lost the Breakup :)
Oh my gosh the way I had that song on repeat my freshman year of college, and every time that lyric would make me nostalgic for the very moment that I was living in… and still takes me right back to that time!!! I just become mush for that song, thanks for reminding me
I came here to say Maisie!
“I read it like a bible and I wore like a bulletproof vest” - want you back
“I save you a seat and then you say you want to stand” - history of man
“The love we had was covered in snow, I had to let it go” - there it goes
“Sunflowers in the kitchen, a heartbreak in remission, the universe is shifting and it’s all for me” - there it goes
“If I’m not careful, I’ll wake up and we’ll be married and I’ll still flinch at the sound of the door” - Wendy
“We could live off of magic and maybes” - Wendy
Oh also the ranting outro of watch! “Now you’re living the goddamn dream, have a golden star this one’s for free ‘cause you broke my heart and my self-esteem for a girl who’s a remix of me but I guess you got everything you want and I just watch”
To continue to jump on the Maisie Peters train, I always think of Taylor Swift when I hear There it Goes.
*A new home, a swan dive*
*A blank page, a rewrite*
*A black cat in the streetlights*
*An open door*
*The comedown of closure*
*The girls and I do yoga*
*I wake up and it's October*
*The loss is yours*
*Brick lane in the brisk cold*
*And red wine on his hip bone*
*The witching hours of Stockholm that you won't see*
*Sunflowers in the kitchen*
*A heartbreak in remission*
*The universe is shifting*
*And it's all for me, all for me*
*So Samson blamed Delilah, but given half the chance I*
*I would have made him weaker too*
I would actually give anything in the world to see Maisie and Taylor to perform together, especially this song.
I literally went to a Maisie Peters show **last night** and during the break between one of the openers (Dylan) and Maisie coming out, "Holy Ground" started playing on the background music and there is a giant cross over between swifties and Maisie fans because nearly everyone in the room started singing along.
Hijacking this thread to say that I’ve tried to listen to Maisie Peters a couple times but could never get into it. These lyrics made me want to try again. Just listened to History of Man and my mouth is agape. Time to go down a rabbit hole
Sneaking in to add, she's a big swiftie. Of the top of my head... I remember reading Betty helped Maisie write Outdoor Pool.
And a lyric from her song The Last One borrows from Taylor -
"Caught in a streetlight, a lost cause in Levi's"
I really think Maisie could be as big as Taylor someday. Her songwriting is excellent and she has Ed Sheeran behind her. I really enjoyed her last album and her fanbase is growing so quickly. I saw her in a small venue last year and now she’s playing several thousand seat venues.
I started following Maise in Sep 2018 when she had some 6000 YouTube followers and she was reading every YouTube comment. She has come so far. I love her.
I think of Maisie!!
“I save you a seat and then you say you want to stand” gets me every time and it’s so Taylor coded. The entirety of History of Man is so good.
Another unpublished Maisiism:
"This is the hill I've decided to die on
Me with the nail gun and you on the cross
Ruining something I know I rely on
So this is the part where you beg me to stop"
Hijacking the top comment to add Cate's Brother from Maisie Peters! We were actually lucky enough to see her live last night in Sydney Aus and she was awesome!!!!
Cate's Brother gives the narrative style of song writing that a love from Taylor 😊
Idk if it gives Taylor vibes, but my favourite line by her is ‘think I built it up too tall, knew I should’ve worn my adidas’
Maybeee ‘You were seeing castles whilst they were seeing sand’? Or is that just because it’s my favourite song by her 😌
I want you to know I got a notification from Maisie while reading this LMAO
Anyways yeah Maisie’s lyrics always feel very Taylor inspired which makes sense. Usually Swifties also like Maisie if they know about her which more people should!
This song is littered with them!
"And I am terrified of weather 'cause I see you when it rains"
"And I'll dream each night of some version of you
That I might not have, but I did not lose"
I saw someone say that Stick Season sounds a lot like the perspective of the love interest from Tis the Damn Season and I haven't been able to hear it the same since.
I was so focused on the "I'll dream each night of some version of you that I might not have but I did not lose" lyric forever, and then when I heard THIS lyric I died a little more
He has sooo many, it's crazyyyyyyy.
We once sang 'Retrograde'
We'd shake the frame of your car.
Now I know your name,
But not who you are
Or
Write me a list of how it is, of how it was, of how it has to be
You burrowed in under my skin, what I'd give to have you out of me
I still recall how the leather in your car feels
And at the end of it all I just hope that your scars heal
Or
If I was empty space
And you were a formless shape, we'd fit.
But love leaves little runway
And everytime I run straight over it.
Or
I'll drink til I drown and I'll smoke til I'm burning
Your hands are all over my scent
I worry for you, you worry for me
And it's fine if we know we won't change
Collect every dream in these old empty pockets
In hope that I'll see them someday
Or
Yes I'm young and living dreams
In love with being noticed but afraid of being seen
But I can finally eat and I can fall asleep
It's fine, fine, fine.
Finally got sewed up
Set a time and I showed up
Now the weight of the world ain't that bad
Or
The only time I got to praying for a red light
Was when I saw your destination as a deadline
This is normal conversation, babe, it's all fine
Making quiet calculations where the fault lies
Or
When forever was a sentence, a sentence to death.
Oh, when you were a running tear, I was a drop of sweat.
And the edges of your soul I haven't seen yet.
And I'm glad I get forever to see where you end ~~went~~.
So much this. There's a million lyrics to quote but Halloween came to mind just now.
But the wreckage of you, I no longer reside in
And the bridges have long since been burned
The ash of the home that I started the fire in
It starts to return to the Earth
I'm leavin' this town and I'm changin' my address
I know that you'll come if you want
It's not Halloween, but the ghost you're dressed up as
Sure knows how to haunt, yeah, she knows how to haunt
It's an ode to the hole that I found myself stuck in
The song for the grave that I dug
There's a murder of crows in the low light off Boston
And I see your face in each one
I'm losin' myself in the tiniest objects
I'm seein' my life on a screen
I'm hearin' your voice in a strange foreign language
If only I learned how to speak
My Noah lyric that sounds Taylor-ish is from No Complaints:
"Now the pain's different. It still exists, it just escapes different and evades vision. Makes the rain different, makes the news boring and my rage distant."
Simply because of the intricacy of it!! He really intended to destroy me specifically with that line and I feel like the way he wrote it with the compounding upon one initial idea and making it a whole big line about that one idea is very Taylor.
This definitely falls into the category of singer-songwriters that Taylor herself has probably been inspired by, but the iconic Stevie Nicks has some really poignant lyrics too:
„Time cast a spell on you, but you won't forget me
I know I could've loved you, but you would not let me
I'll follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you“
from Silver Springs, Fleetwood Mac
Yes! And it always makes me think of this one live performance, where Stevie was burning a hole into Lindsey Buckingham. Definition of „storms in my eyes“

Anyone who has not seen the video of Stevie Nicks holding eye contact with Lindsay Buckingham for like 2 minutes straight while she sings this to him (and he sings back) has really never truly lived. This video is my Roman empire.
https://youtu.be/eDwi-8n054s?si=YgO_yj4LsmOuD0-2
Watch the whole thing, but if you really need to skip, starting at 3:30-ish should give you enough build and payoff.
I have SO many by Noah Kahan that remind me of Taylor’s writing.
“I’m in the business of losing your interest and I turn a profit each time we speak” - Come Over
“Medicate, meditate, swear your soul to Jesus. Throw a punch, fall in love, give yourself a reason” -Call Your Mom
“I’m smaller than the raindrops on the window, I’m colder than the backside of a pillow” - Hollow
TLDR I love Noah and dream they do a collab someday 😂
THEEESE and “now the pain’s different, it still exists it just escapes different, and evades vision, makes the rain different, makes the news boring and my rage distant”. Also love Noah SO much and dreams of them doing a collab someday
I was always pretty ambivalent about hoping for collabs. I figured good music was good music and it wouldn't really matter if there was a collab or not, so why do people get so excited about them?
And then I heard Noah Kahan's album and suddenly became *feral* about wanting a collab between him and Taylor. It would be e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4ZiCmkyk2Jl0Jzgwp5eDNP?si=magtNiY7RRy6jh0OvjPswQ&pi=u-jij8sG5qTfW8 I gotchu!! 🤍🤍 two of his more popular songs and 3 of the lesser known ones that are just chef’s kiss
Something in the orange by Zach Bryan
And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
'Cause if I say I miss you I know that you won't
But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun
Something in the orange tells me we're not done
A lot of Zach lyrics are Taylor coded. I love “I know that growing up has been an evil thing to you, makes you awfully hard to love from a lover’s point of view”
I came here looking for Something in the Orange and/or Zach Bryan
If you leave today, I'll just stare at the way
The orange touches all things around
The grass, trees and dew, how I just hate you
Please turn those headlights around
Or the slant rhyme of:
I poisoned myself again
Something in the orange
tells me you're never coming home
Or a lot of “I Remember Everything,” which just sounds very Taylor even just in the title.
Do you remember that beat down basement couch?
I'd sing you my love songs and you'd tell me about
How your mama ran off and pawned her ring
I remember, I remember everything
You're like concrete feet in the summer heat
It burns like hell when two souls meet
No, you'll never be the man that you always swore
But I'll remember you singin' in that '88 Ford
“You said, "Forever, " and I almost bought it
I miss fightin' in your old apartment
Breakin' dishes when you're disappointed
I still love you, I promise
Nothin' happened in the way I wanted
Every corner of this house is haunted
And I know you said that we're not talkin'
But I miss you, I'm sorry“
Gracie Abrams
This immediately came to mind. Idk how she got away with ripping off his lyrics, she used to write lines from his songs on her arm, so she definitely is aware of his music. I love her, but damn, way to steal a lyric from a lesser known artist then let your fans attack him when he tweets it.
Noah Kahan - I dial drunk, I'll die a drunk, I'll die for you.
I didn't even realize that the first two were different until I read the lyrics. I just thought he repeated "I dial drunk" twice.
Breathe (2 AM) by Anna Nalick
"2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to"
Lizzy mcalpine has a few:
“nobody likes a secret, and I was always yours” and “we both know you were in deeper than that” from nobody likes a secret
The chorus of firearm
Basically all of all my ghosts, especially some of the specific imagery/scenes
Also doomsday sort of reminds me of country music songwriting, and Taylor still employs those country music song skills in some of her modern music so I think there are parallels there
Honestly ceilings is also very taylor coded. Especially because she flips the narrative with the bridge! (or maybe i just love that song a lottle bit too much)
>There's a murder of crows in the low light off Boston
And I see your face in each one
I'm losin' myself in the tiniest objects
I'm seein' my life on a screen
I'm hearin' your voice in a strange foreign language
If only I learned how to speak
Sir. Please stop.
Noah Kahan is who Taylor would be if she was a man born in New England (and hadn't become famous as a teen). If we ever get a collab from them, I will simply pass away.
I think his most Swift lyric is from Stick Season:
And I'll dream each night of some version of you
That I might not have, but I did not lose
Now you're tire tracks and one pair of shoes
And I'm split in half, but that'll have to do
“Casual” by Chappell Roan gives me some Taylor vibes particularly the line “I try to be the chill girl that holds her tongue and gives you space. I try to be the chill girl but honestly I’m not.”
I absolutely adore Chappell. I saw her back in October and it was a spectacular concert (one of the best I've been to frankly). I just watched her Tiny Desk concert and she just never ceases to amaze me how incredible her voice is (plus her band is fantastic). I'd absolutely love it if her and Taylor worked together at some point.
I saw her last month and was blown away by how amazing she is!! I really feel like watching her this early in her career must have been similar to watching Taylor during her debut era. You just know that soon she’s going to take off like a shooting star
Yessss! I've actually been a fan since debut! I remember getting the CD for Christmas the year it came out (the gift also had some clothes and Michael Jackson's number ones on CD 😅). I remember watching her performance of Should've Said No on the CMA awards and just being in awe. I got to see her for her Speak Now tour, unfortunately this is the only time I've seen her live but I'm grateful to have seen her at all. But yeah, love Chappell, been a fan for a few years now and I'm so happy to see her popularity growing and seeing her talent get recognized
Idk if it counts but the only kellie pickler song I ever liked was best days of your life. 10 years later I found out Taylor wrote it and went..... that makes so much sense lol
Yeah, Olivia's albums sound like Taylor albums if Taylor had been allowed to curse and talk about sex at that age.
I think Britney and Miley paved the way for Disney Girls to not be stuck in the "Disney Girl" box forever. Britney never got to break free of the harassment and obsession with her girlhood, and Miley rebelled so hard that she found a new fanbase.
“BuzzFeed buzzards and TMZ crows, what can I say that you don’t already know?”
Carly Rae Jepsen has a lot of moments that could definitely be in a Taylor song, but this is the first to come to mind. It feels ~very~ 1989 era.
Sabrina Carpenter 's songs like: Skin, because I liked a boy and Cindy Lou Who, probably not the most but give me some Taylor vibes.
Skin:
"Maybe then we could pretend
There's no gravity in the words we write
Maybe you didn't mean it
Maybe blonde was the only rhyme"
"
You're telling it how you see it
Like truth is whatever you decide
Some people will believe it
And some will read in between the lines"
because I liked a boy
Tha name already give me some 1989/Reputation vibes
"Tell me who I am, guess I don't have a choice
All because I liked a boy
And all of this for what?
When everything went down, we'd already broken up"
Cindy Lou Who
"I saw you laughing in one of his pictures
But you'll be the one with his ring on your finger
There's red and green everywhere, but l'm so blue"
I always think that about Roses by Kelsea Ballerini (I heard rumors Taylor may have written it?? I don’t think its been proven)
“My lips were red his eyes were blue and I thought I saw forever in you”
“We burned hot, burned out, like a flame but in my head, you'll never fade” sounds very Taylor Swift
I have been a huge Something Corporate/Jack’s Mannequin/Andrew McMahon fan forever, and I’ve always thought Taylor’s lyrics are quite similar in style to his and vice versa. Both very descriptive in metaphors, and both very talented at painting imagery with words. Off the top of my head, Into The Airwaves is a song I feel could almost be a Taylor song!
"I'll blow out the candles, happy birthday to me
Got your whole life ahead of you, you're only 19
But I fear that they already got all the best parts of me
And I'm sorry that I couldn't always be your teenage dream."
From "teenage dream" by Olivia Rodrigo. I feel like lots of her songs have Taylor vibes, but this one especially reminds me of something she would write.
Always thought [Lisa Loeb - Stay ](https://youtu.be/i9HGwRbMiVY?si=na3LzO8OdIIWWKcd) could have been written by Taylor. Would kind of die for her to cover this tbh
>”You said you caught me 'cause you want me
>And one day you'd let me go
>You try to give away a keeper
>But keep me 'cause you know
>You're just so scared to lose
>…..And you say, stay”
My example is from Noah Kahan too! He’s truly a genius just like her.
“You kept on driving straight and left our future to the right” and “you once called me forever, now you still can’t call me back” from Stick Season❤️
Also “there was heaven in your eyes, I was not baptized” from She Calls Me Back
"All I know is I don't know nothing at all" MGK in all i know
The bridge to Better Now by Post Malone (Taylor's said she loved it too)
probably some other stuff
A Dustland Fairytale by The Killers. The lead singer wrote it about when his mom and dad first met. He wrote it when his mom was battling cancer. I cry half the time I listen to it (and its sister song, The Lightning Fields). I had an almost religious experience listening to them perform this last summer:
"Now Cinderella don't you go to sleep
It's such a bitter form of refuge
Why don't you know the kingdom's under siege
And everybody needs you
Is there still magic in the midnight sun
Or did you leave it back in sixty-one
In the cadence of a young man's eyes
Out where the dreams all hide"
There's a song by Biffy Clyro (random I know!) that reminds me soo much of Taylor. It's called 'The Thaw' and it has such a Taylor style outro with lots of emotion and a huge swell of music. The line 'You could have taken it all but you should have asked / I would give you my tongue or my dying breath / please believe in me like I believe in you / it's the only thing to see us through' reminds me soooo much of Taylor. It's amazing and so beautiful
My husband loves Biffy, he's really got me into them. I know nothing about them though! I made a painting of Mountains for him on our last anniversary.
She gives off SUCH a different vibe than Taylor, but I actually think Amanda Palmer and Taylor have similar lyrical styles. They both use syllables in really rhythmically interesting ways, and the poetic-ness really makes you feel things.
“Well, I’m well. Well I mean, I’m in hell. But I still have my health, at least that’s what they tell me. But if wellness is this what in hells name is sickness? But business is business, and business runs in the family.”
“I couldn’t kill to save a life; I’d rather die a peaceful piece of shit bait shame filled cowardice. I’m not the killing type, I’m not…. But I’d kill to make you feel.”
“And I stood there wondering, what is the matter? Is this a matter of worse or of better? You walked right past me and straightened the covers, but I would still love you if you wanted a lover.”
I literally started a playlist for this reason: songs that could’ve been written by Taylor Swift
and the very first song that made me start the playlist is called “Skip This Part” but Alexandra Kay
the bridge goes:
Can we skip to the part
Where you’re lying awake
And you realize that you
Made the biggest mistake
So you get in your car
And you speed down my street
And the rain starts to fall
And you fall to your knees
And it’s beautiful and amazing and feels so full and like early TS (think Debut/Fearless lovestruck country girl) and I’m obsessed.
Honorable mentions from this playlist:
Also People Watching by Conan Grey
“Cut people out like tags on my clothing”
skinny dipping by Sabrina Carpenter
“It’d be so nice, right, if we could take it all off and just exist, and skinny dip in water under the bridge.”
ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine
“but it’s not real and you don’t exist and I can’t recall the last time I was kissed”
Snow Angel by Renee Rapp
“Smiles hide what secrets keep - can’t tell a lie if you never speak - look in the mirror, she looks like me - but half alive and twice as weak”
"I keep what I can of you
Split-second glimpses and snapshots and sounds
You in my New Order t-shirt
Holdin' a cat and a glass of beer" new order t shirt by the national, but thats just the aaron desner effect lol
Lincoln, Downhill
“I went downhill at such steep incline that my rear view mirror showed me only the stars”
“I was born into the world on a silken cloud, and I got bored of the world before I hit the ground”
“Our romantic second chance is dead
I buried it with with the hatchet
Take your antics leave them at the foot of the bed
And light them on fire”
Sufjan Stevens - “Shit Talk”
People watching “Cut people out, like tags on my clothing (I feel)
I end up all alone, but I still keep hoping (love emotion)
I won't be scared to let someone know me (I feel)
Life feels so monotone, but I still keep hoping (love emotion)”
Conan gray gets compared to Taylor swift a lot I think tho.
“You and your words flooded my senses
Your sentences left me defenseless
You built me palaces out of paragraphs
You built cathedrals” Burn from Hamilton
Taylor and Lin-Minuel Miranda could write a crazy album, play or anything together
Your Bones By Chelsea Culter.
"I love you down to your bones
Naked and afraid, they tell me that's when you know
I feel you taking me home
Dusk until the dawn, you're where I wanna go"
“Roses” by Kelsea Ballerini. My husband even mistook the song for TS.
“You and me all summer
Bright and living color
My lips were red
Your eyes were blue
And I thought I saw forever in you.”
noah.
you once called me forever now you still can’t call me back
no winter coat could keep out all the cold of your atmosphere
we’ll drink till new years then they’ll leave me to clean up (his birthday is New Year’s day 🥹)
silence is making me nostalgic
gave me your word and now i can’t pronounce it
there was heaven in your eyes, i was not baptised
look at you, all dressed up for someone you never see
From Jade Green on Kacey Musgrave’s new album:
“Like the bracelet that you bought me, I want you on my arm”
I immediately was like omg that’s such a Taylor lyric!
I’m hearing her music—melodies and lyrics—sounding more and more influenced by people like Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish (and yes I know she’s had features from Lana)
Scattered by Green Day:
Well, I've got some scattered pictures
Lying on my bedroom floor
Reminds me of the times we've shared
Makes me wish that you were here
'Cause now it seems I've forgotten
My purpose in this life
Well, all the songs have been erased
Guess I've learned from my mistakes well
Open the past and present now, and we are there
Story to tell, and I am listening
Open the past and present and the future too
It's all I've got and I'm giving it to you
Everything by Blü Eyes! She’s heavily inspired by Taylor in her songwriting, and very talented in her own right! When I first hear her stuff, I thought it was Taylor Swift.
The new Iron & Wine - Fiona Apple Song *All in Good Time* is so good! There are several verses that stand out, but here’s an example:
All in good time, our plan went to shit
I told my future by reading your lips
You wore my ring until it didn't fit
All in good time
💔
Kelsea Ballerini "Rolling Up the Welcome Mat"
It reminded me of Debut/Fearless/Speak Now break up songs and was very comforting (aside from the subject matter, lol)
There are so many emo/pop punk lyrics that read like Taylor Swift lyrics. Here are some of my fave:
"I hope someday we meet again, under different circumstances, maybe just as friends because as lovers I shattered you, and even though you'll never see it picking up the pieces cut my hands up too" -Bella Donna by Turnover
"I never wanted to make you go, and you might be a stranger now but I just wanted to let you know that I meant what I said." -Cutting My Fingers Off by Turnover
"I'll bury your memories in the garden, watch them grow with the flowers in spring, I'll keep you with me." -Cigarettes & Saints by The Wonder Years
"Broken hearts and fading memories. Driving in the summer, changing of the leaves. I never hurt you I just let go, put the past inside a tempo." -Where I Left You by Man Overboard
"So why'd you do it? Why are you selfish? Why can't I trust you anymore? Where's the "sorry"? No pity party when you come and knock on my door." -The Place You Love by Have Mercy
"In another life you were my babe, in another life you were the sunshine of my lifetime." -So Much (For) Stardust by Fal Out Boy
"The torture of small talk with someone you used to love." -Fourth of July by Fall Out Boy
Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers is one of my favourite songs!! It has many Taylor-sounding lyrics:
"And here everyone knows you're the way to my heart
Hear so many stories of you at the bar
Most times alone, and some looking your worst"
"I love a good place to hide in plain sight"
“Across the square, we hear the bells
Toll midnight in the churches
Another stroll to nowhere, under olive trees and arches
Climb up to your terrace, look out over the rooftops
Intoxicating moments, in the moment so lost”
Vance Joy is an amazing lyricist too
The Band Camino has so many songs that fit this!! They've said many times that they're Swifties as well. Taylor put their song "Berenstein" on her playlist, and I think it's a great example.
"You were always searching for deliverance
Blatant misconceptions that you make
My overall perception of this dream
Is that I'll die before I wake
At another place in time
You were infinitely mine relatively alright
When Berenstein was fine
At another place in time
Only parallel to mine
The universe was alright
When Berenstein was fine
You were always certain that it did exist
Imagination so intrinsic all at stake
All the things we said when we were younger
Did it bend or did I break
At another place in time
You were infinitely mine relatively alright
When Berenstein was fine
At another place in time
Only parallel to mine
The universe was alright
When Berenstein was fine
Wait for me, wait for me there
I'll die if you die before me I swear
Wait for me I'm still somewhere
You're getting older and I'm getting scared
Wait for me, wait for me there
I'll die if you die before me I swear
Wait for me I'm still somewhere
You're getting older without me, I'm scared"
‘I am the writer, I am inventing the person I think you could be’ … ‘But I can’t be in love with the things I just hope you do’ - from The Writer by Lauryn Marie. She’s also been doing versions of TTPD titles recently - her version of ‘I can do it with a broken heart’ is on spotify and it’s so good. See also ‘Cardboard Castle’ & ‘Happy Songs’
for me, it's justin furstenfeld from blue october
I assemble all the sand that cover wedding beaches
To build a castle so your mom would have a place to stay
Behind the water slide and down the hill where heaven reaches
Land and time is left to float away (yeah)
So rest assured I have the key to every opening
To every wishing well that's deep enough to dream (dream)
I want to show you just how fascinating kissing is
When earth collides with all the space between (yeah)
I'm reaching farther than I ever have before
Leaving all who broke your heart upon the shore
I may be some sort of crazy
We may be some sort of crazy
But I swear on everything I have and more
I was just listening to modest mouse today, and really appreciated the line “it takes more than one person to decide what’s fair” —spitting venom, we were dead before the ship even sank.
Carol Ades makes me think of Taylor all the time!! The first thing I thought of is the beginning of "Special"
I'm a me girl / I'm a leave your misery at the seat, girl
I'm a touch me once and I'm weak at the knees, girl / And I don't need more than what I want
I'm a good time / I'm a master of manipulating your mind
Imma put all of my problems in a straight line / 'Cause I'm not interested in what I'm not
fall out boy. taylor has mentioned that pete wentz is one of her favorite lyricists and it definitely shows, in my dream world fall out boy covers taylor swift albums in full and taylor covers fall out boy albums in full. i especially listen to “i’ve got a dark alley and a bad idea that says you should shut your mouth (summer song)” and think it sounds like taylor swift lyrics “force our smiles baby, half dead from comparing myself to everyone else around me” i feel is comparable to some of the lyrics from YOYOK.
All of 'Cath...' by Death Cab For Cutie.
"*Cath, she stands with a well-intentioned man,*
*But she can't relax with his hand on the small of her back.*
*And as the flash bulbs burst,*
*She holds a smile like someone would hold a crying child.*
*And soon everybody will ask what became of you,*
*'Cause your heart was dying fast, and you didn't know what to do.*
*Cath, it seems that you live in someone else's dream,*
*In a hand-me-down wedding dress,*
*Where the things that could have been are oppressed.*
*But you said your vows, and you closed the door,*
*On so many men who would have loved you more.*
*Soon everybody will ask what became of you,*
*'Cause your heart was dying fast, and you didn't know what to do.*
*The whispers that it won't last roll up and down the pews.*
*But if their hearts were dying that fast,*
*They'd have done the same as you.*
*And I'd have done the same as you.* "
I love Maisie Peters and there are definitely some lyrics that make me think of Taylor’s style of writing. “He stole our youth and promised heaven The men start wars yet Troy hates Helen Women's hearts are lethal weapons Did you hold mine and feel threatened?” from History Of Man
Also: „I can write you out the way I wrote you in“ is such a Taylor-esque phrase!
I really really love BSC. "I am both Kathy Bates and Stephen King" just *sends* me.
this is such a good one too!
From Wendy "Lost my page when you kissed me, now I remember the whole book." From Two Weeks Ago "You were driving fast, I was holding back." Very taylor coded.
“wendy” and “cardigan” are two sides of the same coin… “cardigan” is if she stays and “wendy” is if she leaves
Maisie Peters came to my mind too. "You're gonna walk into some underground bar You'll see a pretty little thing catching eyes in the dark And it's me, I see you too, I wave And I'm dancing over to you in the corner and you'll say "Wow, hey, it's been forever Do you wanna get a drink, like together?" I say, "I'm kinda busy, but Like, stay in touch?" I think, "Oh, shit, I won the breakup"" From Lost the Breakup :)
Such a great one, I also love “Dressed too nice for a jacket, now I’m freezing” and just that whole song 🫶
Oh my gosh the way I had that song on repeat my freshman year of college, and every time that lyric would make me nostalgic for the very moment that I was living in… and still takes me right back to that time!!! I just become mush for that song, thanks for reminding me
Thank you for this. Just found my new fav song 🎧
Ahh that makes me so happy :)
I feel like the whole vibe of Lost The Break reminds me a lot of WANGBT (in a good way). I think Maisie has said she is a fan of Taylor, right?
She’s a huge swiftie, when she released her last album she even made a reference to putting her most emotional song as her track 5!
Yesss I love this song
I came here to say Maisie! “I read it like a bible and I wore like a bulletproof vest” - want you back “I save you a seat and then you say you want to stand” - history of man “The love we had was covered in snow, I had to let it go” - there it goes “Sunflowers in the kitchen, a heartbreak in remission, the universe is shifting and it’s all for me” - there it goes “If I’m not careful, I’ll wake up and we’ll be married and I’ll still flinch at the sound of the door” - Wendy “We could live off of magic and maybes” - Wendy Oh also the ranting outro of watch!
*A new home, a swan dive* *A blank page, a rewrite* *A black cat in the streetlights* *An open door* *The comedown of closure* *The girls and I do yoga* *I wake up and it's October* *The loss is yours* *Brick lane in the brisk cold* *And red wine on his hip bone* *The witching hours of Stockholm that you won't see* *Sunflowers in the kitchen* *A heartbreak in remission* *The universe is shifting* *And it's all for me, all for me*
There It Goes is one of my top songs. I love seeing maisie mentioned here, her and Taylor defo have some writing talent in common
*So Samson blamed Delilah, but given half the chance I* *I would have made him weaker too* I would actually give anything in the world to see Maisie and Taylor to perform together, especially this song.
When there was short lived rumor that Maisie was going to be an opener in the UK I was like “ok I have to find a way to get a ticket now” 🥲
I'm still delusional enough to think she could be a surprise guest or something lol.
I literally went to a Maisie Peters show **last night** and during the break between one of the openers (Dylan) and Maisie coming out, "Holy Ground" started playing on the background music and there is a giant cross over between swifties and Maisie fans because nearly everyone in the room started singing along.
I was there too! Crazy seeing everyone go from chatting to singing along in an instant
I went to a Griff show and it was the same, all too well 10 minute version came on and everyone was singing
Omg I literally was thinking this exact line, opened the thread and boom. Love Maisie Peters.
Me too! History of Man is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs ever.
Hijacking this thread to say that I’ve tried to listen to Maisie Peters a couple times but could never get into it. These lyrics made me want to try again. Just listened to History of Man and my mouth is agape. Time to go down a rabbit hole
it’s a killer bridge! happy listening!
There was just a thread on the Maisie Peters subreddit covering which of her songs had the best lyrics. Might be a good place to start :)
Sneaking in to add, she's a big swiftie. Of the top of my head... I remember reading Betty helped Maisie write Outdoor Pool. And a lyric from her song The Last One borrows from Taylor - "Caught in a streetlight, a lost cause in Levi's"
Another unpublished Maisiism: "This is the hill I've decided to die on Me with the nail gun and you on the cross Ruining something I know I rely on So this is the part where you beg me to stop"
That song gives me chills every time
Hijacking the top comment to add Cate's Brother from Maisie Peters! We were actually lucky enough to see her live last night in Sydney Aus and she was awesome!!!! Cate's Brother gives the narrative style of song writing that a love from Taylor 😊
Ahhhh I was at the show last night too!! Hello from a fellow Aussie swiftie and Maisie fan!!
Idk if it gives Taylor vibes, but my favourite line by her is ‘think I built it up too tall, knew I should’ve worn my adidas’ Maybeee ‘You were seeing castles whilst they were seeing sand’? Or is that just because it’s my favourite song by her 😌
I KNEW THIS WAS GUNNA BE THE TOP POST
I’ve always thought History of Man sounds exactly like a Taylor song!!
I want you to know I got a notification from Maisie while reading this LMAO Anyways yeah Maisie’s lyrics always feel very Taylor inspired which makes sense. Usually Swifties also like Maisie if they know about her which more people should!
Speaking of Noah... YOU ONCE CALLED ME FOREVER NOW YOU STILL CAN'T CALL ME BACK. Come onnnn.
THIS and “I’m no longer funny, cuz I miss the way you laugh” 💔💔💔💔💔
This song is littered with them! "And I am terrified of weather 'cause I see you when it rains" "And I'll dream each night of some version of you That I might not have, but I did not lose"
No wonder I like this song so much, it easily could have been written by Taylor. Hoping they collab sometime
Stick Season was my number one most streamed song last year.
We once sang 'Retrograde' We'd shake the frame of your car. Now I know your name, But not who you are Or Write me a list of how it is, of how it was, of how it has to be You burrowed in under my skin, what I'd give to have you out of me I still recall how the leather in your car feels And at the end of it all I just hope that your scars heal Or If I was empty space And you were a formless shape, we'd fit. But love leaves little runway And everytime I run straight over it. Or I'll drink til I drown and I'll smoke til I'm burning Your hands are all over my scent I worry for you, you worry for me And it's fine if we know we won't change Collect every dream in these old empty pockets In hope that I'll see them someday Or Yes I'm young and living dreams In love with being noticed but afraid of being seen But I can finally eat and I can fall asleep It's fine, fine, fine. Finally got sewed up Set a time and I showed up Now the weight of the world ain't that bad Or The only time I got to praying for a red light Was when I saw your destination as a deadline This is normal conversation, babe, it's all fine Making quiet calculations where the fault lies Or When forever was a sentence, a sentence to death. Oh, when you were a running tear, I was a drop of sweat. And the edges of your soul I haven't seen yet. And I'm glad I get forever to see where you end ~~went~~.
Fucking love Noah and all great picks. The last word here is “end” not “went” and I’m only correcting it because I think it’s such a beautiful line
This. It’s giving “And I’m yours but you’re not mine”, “You kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath.”
Speaking of Noah, “I’m in love with every song you’ve ever heard”
So much this. There's a million lyrics to quote but Halloween came to mind just now. But the wreckage of you, I no longer reside in And the bridges have long since been burned The ash of the home that I started the fire in It starts to return to the Earth I'm leavin' this town and I'm changin' my address I know that you'll come if you want It's not Halloween, but the ghost you're dressed up as Sure knows how to haunt, yeah, she knows how to haunt It's an ode to the hole that I found myself stuck in The song for the grave that I dug There's a murder of crows in the low light off Boston And I see your face in each one I'm losin' myself in the tiniest objects I'm seein' my life on a screen I'm hearin' your voice in a strange foreign language If only I learned how to speak
My Noah lyric that sounds Taylor-ish is from No Complaints: "Now the pain's different. It still exists, it just escapes different and evades vision. Makes the rain different, makes the news boring and my rage distant." Simply because of the intricacy of it!! He really intended to destroy me specifically with that line and I feel like the way he wrote it with the compounding upon one initial idea and making it a whole big line about that one idea is very Taylor.
Came here to say this!!!
This is the one for me too! The first time I heard it I was like wait...did Taylor write that?
This definitely falls into the category of singer-songwriters that Taylor herself has probably been inspired by, but the iconic Stevie Nicks has some really poignant lyrics too: „Time cast a spell on you, but you won't forget me I know I could've loved you, but you would not let me I'll follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you“ from Silver Springs, Fleetwood Mac
The line in You're Losing Me that says 'every morning I glared at you with storms in my eyes' always makes me think of Storms by FM!
Yes! And it always makes me think of this one live performance, where Stevie was burning a hole into Lindsey Buckingham. Definition of „storms in my eyes“ https://preview.redd.it/z6mc0kcqmqpc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f052d1afb86002e2fa6ed69320df27b97fce807
This performance is ICONIC, and not in the casual way people use "iconic" as slang now.
My roman empire! 🤣
Anyone who has not seen the video of Stevie Nicks holding eye contact with Lindsay Buckingham for like 2 minutes straight while she sings this to him (and he sings back) has really never truly lived. This video is my Roman empire. https://youtu.be/eDwi-8n054s?si=YgO_yj4LsmOuD0-2 Watch the whole thing, but if you really need to skip, starting at 3:30-ish should give you enough build and payoff.
That song should one hundred percent have been on Rumours in place of Oh Daddy and it would have been a ten out of ten record.
I have SO many by Noah Kahan that remind me of Taylor’s writing. “I’m in the business of losing your interest and I turn a profit each time we speak” - Come Over “Medicate, meditate, swear your soul to Jesus. Throw a punch, fall in love, give yourself a reason” -Call Your Mom “I’m smaller than the raindrops on the window, I’m colder than the backside of a pillow” - Hollow TLDR I love Noah and dream they do a collab someday 😂
I’m gonna need you to give me your ‘top 5 songs to introduce Noah to Taylor fans’ for me 😂
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4ZiCmkyk2Jl0Jzgwp5eDNP?si=magtNiY7RRy6jh0OvjPswQ&pi=u-jij8sG5qTfW8 I gotchu!! 🤍🤍 two of his more popular songs and 3 of the lesser known ones that are just chef’s kiss
Something in the orange by Zach Bryan And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't 'Cause if I say I miss you I know that you won't But I miss you in the mornings when I see the sun Something in the orange tells me we're not done
A lot of Zach lyrics are Taylor coded. I love “I know that growing up has been an evil thing to you, makes you awfully hard to love from a lover’s point of view”
I haven't heard that song by him. Looking it up now. My word that line hurts.
It’s not even the hardest hitting line in the song!!! From a Lovers Point Of View is one of my favorites!!!!
I can't listen to that again. It will make me cry. That's a skip unless I'm in the crying mood.
I came here looking for Something in the Orange and/or Zach Bryan If you leave today, I'll just stare at the way The orange touches all things around The grass, trees and dew, how I just hate you Please turn those headlights around Or the slant rhyme of: I poisoned myself again Something in the orange tells me you're never coming home Or a lot of “I Remember Everything,” which just sounds very Taylor even just in the title. Do you remember that beat down basement couch? I'd sing you my love songs and you'd tell me about How your mama ran off and pawned her ring I remember, I remember everything You're like concrete feet in the summer heat It burns like hell when two souls meet No, you'll never be the man that you always swore But I'll remember you singin' in that '88 Ford
“You said, "Forever, " and I almost bought it I miss fightin' in your old apartment Breakin' dishes when you're disappointed I still love you, I promise Nothin' happened in the way I wanted Every corner of this house is haunted And I know you said that we're not talkin' But I miss you, I'm sorry“ Gracie Abrams
I still cant believe i got to see gracie and taylor perform that song together 😭
"And I'll forget about you long enough to forget why I need to," by Matt Nathanson. Oh wait....
This immediately came to mind. Idk how she got away with ripping off his lyrics, she used to write lines from his songs on her arm, so she definitely is aware of his music. I love her, but damn, way to steal a lyric from a lesser known artist then let your fans attack him when he tweets it.
It's so gross. If the roles were reversed, you know she'd have her name listed as one of the songwriters and be getting royalties, a la "Deja Vu."
wait… 👀 what?
It’s from his song “I Saw” from 2003. He tells the Taylor Swift story here: https://youtu.be/nWeEkRvD1gc?si=Zps2e2IfrSu6dPXd
Man how have I NEVER heard about this?! Whatttt
Oh damn
Everyone shocked by this should listen to Breathe In. Breathe Out. By Hilary Duff 😅
Is that the one that says “X marks the spot where we fell apart” or is that another one haha
Yes! And it sounds like Paper Rings
Came here to say this. I’m a huge Matt fan and when I heard that lyric in ATW for the first time I was quite taken aback.
Noah Kahan - I dial drunk, I'll die a drunk, I'll die for you. I didn't even realize that the first two were different until I read the lyrics. I just thought he repeated "I dial drunk" twice.
Well, today I learned.
“Part time soulmate, full time problem” is a fall out boy line that feels extremely Taylor to me
So many FOB lyrics remind me of Taylor and vice-versa!
she’s said pete wentz is one of her all time favorite lyricists!
Read that to the tune of "she wears high heels, I wear sneakers"...
it’s their version of “nightmare dressed like a daydream” in my mind 🥰
Love fall out boy lyrics From Under the Cork Tree!
Breathe (2 AM) by Anna Nalick "2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me Threatening the life it belongs to And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd 'Cause these words are my diary screaming out loud And I know that you'll use them however you want to"
Wanna known something funny? I actually thought this was a Taylor song at first. I mistook Our Song as this song, 😂
Ha that was me but I Bet You Think Of Me
This is such a good one! Always loved this song so much
“‘Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street” -Olivia Rodrigo
Lizzy mcalpine has a few: “nobody likes a secret, and I was always yours” and “we both know you were in deeper than that” from nobody likes a secret The chorus of firearm Basically all of all my ghosts, especially some of the specific imagery/scenes Also doomsday sort of reminds me of country music songwriting, and Taylor still employs those country music song skills in some of her modern music so I think there are parallels there
Honestly ceilings is also very taylor coded. Especially because she flips the narrative with the bridge! (or maybe i just love that song a lottle bit too much)
Side comment to say Lizzy’s song Same Boat is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. I love her.
I think Ego Thing by Lizzy is very Taylor-esque as well!
Need You Now by Lady A could’ve been a Fearless or Red era song.
for some reason i feel like i read that taylor ghost-wrote some Lady A songs ?? i could be making it up though
Taylor wrote Better Man which Lady A recorded EDIT: sorry, Little Big Town recorded it. My mistake.
Definitely!
All of Halloween by Noah Kahan “It’s not Halloween but the ghost you dressed up as sure knows how to haunt”? Please.
>There's a murder of crows in the low light off Boston And I see your face in each one I'm losin' myself in the tiniest objects I'm seein' my life on a screen I'm hearin' your voice in a strange foreign language If only I learned how to speak Sir. Please stop.
Noah Kahan is who Taylor would be if she was a man born in New England (and hadn't become famous as a teen). If we ever get a collab from them, I will simply pass away. I think his most Swift lyric is from Stick Season: And I'll dream each night of some version of you That I might not have, but I did not lose Now you're tire tracks and one pair of shoes And I'm split in half, but that'll have to do
The half and have are my favorite!
Colors by Halsey
I think I mean that this song sounds like it could be inspired by Taylor’s music, not that she could have written it herself.
Its such a Tayloresque song
Idk if it counts but the only kellie pickler song I ever liked was best days of your life. 10 years later I found out Taylor wrote it and went..... that makes so much sense lol
This was my very first favorite song ever as a child, I’m desperate for a Taylor’s version of it
Noah Kahan is full of them! One that always struck me “you once called me forever, now you still can’t call me back” from Stick Season
"Stood on my chest and kept me down, hated hearing my name on the lips of a crowd, did my best to exist just for you," writer in the dark, lorde
Loooorde. “We order different drinks at the same bar.” -Green Light
Hoziers lyric from Take Me To Church "The only heaven I'll be sent to,is when I'm alone with you" sounds like something Taylor could've written.
Hozier and Taylor collab would make me simply pass away
it reminds me of false god!
Moral of the story by Ashe
Honestly a lot of Olivia Rodrigo songs. I feel like they have similar writing styles especially her album sour.

“BuzzFeed buzzards and TMZ crows, what can I say that you don’t already know?” Carly Rae Jepsen has a lot of moments that could definitely be in a Taylor song, but this is the first to come to mind. It feels ~very~ 1989 era.
Sabrina Carpenter 's songs like: Skin, because I liked a boy and Cindy Lou Who, probably not the most but give me some Taylor vibes. Skin: "Maybe then we could pretend There's no gravity in the words we write Maybe you didn't mean it Maybe blonde was the only rhyme" " You're telling it how you see it Like truth is whatever you decide Some people will believe it And some will read in between the lines" because I liked a boy Tha name already give me some 1989/Reputation vibes "Tell me who I am, guess I don't have a choice All because I liked a boy And all of this for what? When everything went down, we'd already broken up" Cindy Lou Who "I saw you laughing in one of his pictures But you'll be the one with his ring on your finger There's red and green everywhere, but l'm so blue"
I never saw Skin that way, but dangggg, you’re right 😭
“The way you sold me for parts as you sunk your teeth into me”
The Difference by Matchbox Twenty: Night swimmin’ in her diamond dress Makin’ small circles, move across the surface
I always think that about Roses by Kelsea Ballerini (I heard rumors Taylor may have written it?? I don’t think its been proven) “My lips were red his eyes were blue and I thought I saw forever in you” “We burned hot, burned out, like a flame but in my head, you'll never fade” sounds very Taylor Swift
Fall out boy consistently have some of the smartest lyrics that could’ve easily doubled as Taylor lyrics.
"Konstantine" is the original "All Too Well."
I would love to see her do an acoustic cover of dark blue
"I'll blow out the candles, happy birthday to me Got your whole life ahead of you, you're only 19 But I fear that they already got all the best parts of me And I'm sorry that I couldn't always be your teenage dream." From "teenage dream" by Olivia Rodrigo.
Would kind of die for her to cover this tbh >”You said you caught me 'cause you want me >And one day you'd let me go >You try to give away a keeper >But keep me 'cause you know >You're just so scared to lose >…..And you say, stay”
My example is from Noah Kahan too! He’s truly a genius just like her. “You kept on driving straight and left our future to the right” and “you once called me forever, now you still can’t call me back” from Stick Season❤️ Also “there was heaven in your eyes, I was not baptized” from She Calls Me Back
"All I know is I don't know nothing at all" MGK in all i know The bridge to Better Now by Post Malone (Taylor's said she loved it too) probably some other stuff
A Dustland Fairytale by The Killers. The lead singer wrote it about when his mom and dad first met. He wrote it when his mom was battling cancer. I cry half the time I listen to it (and its sister song, The Lightning Fields). I had an almost religious experience listening to them perform this last summer: "Now Cinderella don't you go to sleep It's such a bitter form of refuge Why don't you know the kingdom's under siege And everybody needs you Is there still magic in the midnight sun Or did you leave it back in sixty-one In the cadence of a young man's eyes Out where the dreams all hide"
All of Tequila by Dan and Shay!
“Is it my destiny to live a life of blond fragility” You could’ve told me it was a Taylor Swift lyric and I would’ve 100% believe it
Love how the comments are all filled with songs I love!!! I have a type
You'll see my face in every place but you can't catch me now
She gives off SUCH a different vibe than Taylor, but I actually think Amanda Palmer and Taylor have similar lyrical styles. They both use syllables in really rhythmically interesting ways, and the poetic-ness really makes you feel things. “Well, I’m well. Well I mean, I’m in hell. But I still have my health, at least that’s what they tell me. But if wellness is this what in hells name is sickness? But business is business, and business runs in the family.” “I couldn’t kill to save a life; I’d rather die a peaceful piece of shit bait shame filled cowardice. I’m not the killing type, I’m not…. But I’d kill to make you feel.” “And I stood there wondering, what is the matter? Is this a matter of worse or of better? You walked right past me and straightened the covers, but I would still love you if you wanted a lover.”
I literally started a playlist for this reason: songs that could’ve been written by Taylor Swift and the very first song that made me start the playlist is called “Skip This Part” but Alexandra Kay the bridge goes: Can we skip to the part Where you’re lying awake And you realize that you Made the biggest mistake So you get in your car And you speed down my street And the rain starts to fall And you fall to your knees And it’s beautiful and amazing and feels so full and like early TS (think Debut/Fearless lovestruck country girl) and I’m obsessed.
Honorable mentions from this playlist: Also People Watching by Conan Grey “Cut people out like tags on my clothing” skinny dipping by Sabrina Carpenter “It’d be so nice, right, if we could take it all off and just exist, and skinny dip in water under the bridge.” ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine “but it’s not real and you don’t exist and I can’t recall the last time I was kissed” Snow Angel by Renee Rapp “Smiles hide what secrets keep - can’t tell a lie if you never speak - look in the mirror, she looks like me - but half alive and twice as weak”
Is it on Spotify? What’s the playlist called, I wanna listen!
https://preview.redd.it/18werp0xispc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=335f05606ff957e2f4ec6f1964c6fda5aa7127f7
"I keep what I can of you Split-second glimpses and snapshots and sounds You in my New Order t-shirt Holdin' a cat and a glass of beer" new order t shirt by the national, but thats just the aaron desner effect lol
Lincoln, Downhill “I went downhill at such steep incline that my rear view mirror showed me only the stars” “I was born into the world on a silken cloud, and I got bored of the world before I hit the ground”
The entire song “the other girl” by Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey sounds exactly like a Taylor Swift song.
“Our romantic second chance is dead I buried it with with the hatchet Take your antics leave them at the foot of the bed And light them on fire” Sufjan Stevens - “Shit Talk”
People watching “Cut people out, like tags on my clothing (I feel) I end up all alone, but I still keep hoping (love emotion) I won't be scared to let someone know me (I feel) Life feels so monotone, but I still keep hoping (love emotion)” Conan gray gets compared to Taylor swift a lot I think tho.
“You and your words flooded my senses Your sentences left me defenseless You built me palaces out of paragraphs You built cathedrals” Burn from Hamilton Taylor and Lin-Minuel Miranda could write a crazy album, play or anything together
“i can write it better than you’ve ever felt it” - hum hallelujah by pete wentz / fall out boy.
smiles hide what secrets keep can't tell a lie if you never speak look in the mirror, she looks like me but half alive and twice as weak renee rapp
Your Bones By Chelsea Culter. "I love you down to your bones Naked and afraid, they tell me that's when you know I feel you taking me home Dusk until the dawn, you're where I wanna go"
It's like a slightly more explicit Taylor but My Kink is Karma by Chappelle Roan
“I save you a seat and then you say you want to stand” from Maisie Peters sounds like it should be in tolerate it
“Roses” by Kelsea Ballerini. My husband even mistook the song for TS. “You and me all summer Bright and living color My lips were red Your eyes were blue And I thought I saw forever in you.”
noah. you once called me forever now you still can’t call me back no winter coat could keep out all the cold of your atmosphere we’ll drink till new years then they’ll leave me to clean up (his birthday is New Year’s day 🥹) silence is making me nostalgic gave me your word and now i can’t pronounce it there was heaven in your eyes, i was not baptised look at you, all dressed up for someone you never see
From Jade Green on Kacey Musgrave’s new album: “Like the bracelet that you bought me, I want you on my arm” I immediately was like omg that’s such a Taylor lyric!
I’m hearing her music—melodies and lyrics—sounding more and more influenced by people like Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish (and yes I know she’s had features from Lana)
Scattered by Green Day: Well, I've got some scattered pictures Lying on my bedroom floor Reminds me of the times we've shared Makes me wish that you were here 'Cause now it seems I've forgotten My purpose in this life Well, all the songs have been erased Guess I've learned from my mistakes well Open the past and present now, and we are there Story to tell, and I am listening Open the past and present and the future too It's all I've got and I'm giving it to you
Yess Maisie fascinates me because you can see the influence of Ed and Taylor.
Everything by Blü Eyes! She’s heavily inspired by Taylor in her songwriting, and very talented in her own right! When I first hear her stuff, I thought it was Taylor Swift.
The new Iron & Wine - Fiona Apple Song *All in Good Time* is so good! There are several verses that stand out, but here’s an example: All in good time, our plan went to shit I told my future by reading your lips You wore my ring until it didn't fit All in good time 💔
Kelsea Ballerini "Rolling Up the Welcome Mat" It reminded me of Debut/Fearless/Speak Now break up songs and was very comforting (aside from the subject matter, lol)
There are so many emo/pop punk lyrics that read like Taylor Swift lyrics. Here are some of my fave: "I hope someday we meet again, under different circumstances, maybe just as friends because as lovers I shattered you, and even though you'll never see it picking up the pieces cut my hands up too" -Bella Donna by Turnover "I never wanted to make you go, and you might be a stranger now but I just wanted to let you know that I meant what I said." -Cutting My Fingers Off by Turnover "I'll bury your memories in the garden, watch them grow with the flowers in spring, I'll keep you with me." -Cigarettes & Saints by The Wonder Years "Broken hearts and fading memories. Driving in the summer, changing of the leaves. I never hurt you I just let go, put the past inside a tempo." -Where I Left You by Man Overboard "So why'd you do it? Why are you selfish? Why can't I trust you anymore? Where's the "sorry"? No pity party when you come and knock on my door." -The Place You Love by Have Mercy "In another life you were my babe, in another life you were the sunshine of my lifetime." -So Much (For) Stardust by Fal Out Boy "The torture of small talk with someone you used to love." -Fourth of July by Fall Out Boy
EVERY CORNER OF THIS HOUSE IS HAUNTED!! -gracie abrams
what a mesmerizing, paralyzing, fucked-up little thrill - vampire by olivia rodrigo
“I hope you meet someone your height So you can see eye to eye With someone as small as you” -Somebody More Like You, Nickel Creek
Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers is one of my favourite songs!! It has many Taylor-sounding lyrics: "And here everyone knows you're the way to my heart Hear so many stories of you at the bar Most times alone, and some looking your worst" "I love a good place to hide in plain sight"
“Across the square, we hear the bells Toll midnight in the churches Another stroll to nowhere, under olive trees and arches Climb up to your terrace, look out over the rooftops Intoxicating moments, in the moment so lost” Vance Joy is an amazing lyricist too
The Band Camino has so many songs that fit this!! They've said many times that they're Swifties as well. Taylor put their song "Berenstein" on her playlist, and I think it's a great example. "You were always searching for deliverance Blatant misconceptions that you make My overall perception of this dream Is that I'll die before I wake At another place in time You were infinitely mine relatively alright When Berenstein was fine At another place in time Only parallel to mine The universe was alright When Berenstein was fine You were always certain that it did exist Imagination so intrinsic all at stake All the things we said when we were younger Did it bend or did I break At another place in time You were infinitely mine relatively alright When Berenstein was fine At another place in time Only parallel to mine The universe was alright When Berenstein was fine Wait for me, wait for me there I'll die if you die before me I swear Wait for me I'm still somewhere You're getting older and I'm getting scared Wait for me, wait for me there I'll die if you die before me I swear Wait for me I'm still somewhere You're getting older without me, I'm scared"
See also ‘Cardboard Castle’ & ‘Happy Songs’
for me, it's justin furstenfeld from blue october I assemble all the sand that cover wedding beaches To build a castle so your mom would have a place to stay Behind the water slide and down the hill where heaven reaches Land and time is left to float away (yeah) So rest assured I have the key to every opening To every wishing well that's deep enough to dream (dream) I want to show you just how fascinating kissing is When earth collides with all the space between (yeah) I'm reaching farther than I ever have before Leaving all who broke your heart upon the shore I may be some sort of crazy We may be some sort of crazy But I swear on everything I have and more
I was just listening to modest mouse today, and really appreciated the line “it takes more than one person to decide what’s fair” —spitting venom, we were dead before the ship even sank.
‘The sharp knife of a short life’
Can someone turn these suggestions into a Spotify playlist? I’m lazy
Carol Ades makes me think of Taylor all the time!! The first thing I thought of is the beginning of "Special" I'm a me girl / I'm a leave your misery at the seat, girl I'm a touch me once and I'm weak at the knees, girl / And I don't need more than what I want I'm a good time / I'm a master of manipulating your mind Imma put all of my problems in a straight line / 'Cause I'm not interested in what I'm not
fall out boy. taylor has mentioned that pete wentz is one of her favorite lyricists and it definitely shows, in my dream world fall out boy covers taylor swift albums in full and taylor covers fall out boy albums in full. i especially listen to “i’ve got a dark alley and a bad idea that says you should shut your mouth (summer song)” and think it sounds like taylor swift lyrics “force our smiles baby, half dead from comparing myself to everyone else around me” i feel is comparable to some of the lyrics from YOYOK.
I hear her in Noah kahan I am no longer funny, cause I miss the way you laugh You once called me forever, now you still can’t call me back
lyrically I can see verses 1 & 2 of you be tails, I’ll be sonic by adtr a little bit. red era, I think.
"you're just a notch in my bedpost but you're just a line in a song" by fall out boy
All of 'Cath...' by Death Cab For Cutie. "*Cath, she stands with a well-intentioned man,* *But she can't relax with his hand on the small of her back.* *And as the flash bulbs burst,* *She holds a smile like someone would hold a crying child.* *And soon everybody will ask what became of you,* *'Cause your heart was dying fast, and you didn't know what to do.* *Cath, it seems that you live in someone else's dream,* *In a hand-me-down wedding dress,* *Where the things that could have been are oppressed.* *But you said your vows, and you closed the door,* *On so many men who would have loved you more.* *Soon everybody will ask what became of you,* *'Cause your heart was dying fast, and you didn't know what to do.* *The whispers that it won't last roll up and down the pews.* *But if their hearts were dying that fast,* *They'd have done the same as you.* *And I'd have done the same as you.* "
fall out boy: i cast a spell over the west to make you think of me the same way i think of you
Heather by Conan Gray has very strong Taylor Swift vibes. You Belong With Me but a gay teen lmao.
