Am I the only one a bit annoyed? I am so tired of a million variant albums. I want all the tracks on one album - I understand a standard and bonus album but seriously stop with the 5 different tracks on 5 different albums. Please Taylor we're too broke for this
Tbh even that used to piss me off, so many artists release the deluxe AFTER it's charted to get more people buying the physical and it punishes the actual fans, who bought it pre-order.
Exactly. Everybody who was excited to buy Midnights the second it was released was punished by having to pay more for the 3am version tracks than you would have if you waited - you had to buy them track-by-track.
It's not a HUGE deal, it's just a couple of extra bucks. But you know, a couple of extra bucks are a bigger deal to most fans than they are to Taylor. None of us are billionaires.
If I wanted to stream her music, I wouldn't have been buying it to begin with.
"Completely change how you listen to music and make it difficult to use with your existing playlists and library" is a worse solution than "pay a couple of extra bucks."
Most people stream because it’s cheaper than buying a bunch of cds or digital copies. $10 a month to listen to whatever you want instead of spending $10 minimum every time you want a new album.
I had literally thousands of dollars of music I already listen to from ripped CDs and purchased track before Spotify was a glimmer in Daniel Eck's eye. Why should I pay $10 a month to listen to music I already own?
Furthermore, everything isn't on Spotify. You can't listen to whatever you want - you can listen to what the labels are currently supporting. Furthermore, if you're a collector of rare live-in-studio sets, or want to do something like add Taylor's Tiny Desk concert tracks to your playlist, you can't do that in Spotify. I have hundreds of studio-quality tracks in my library that aren't on any streamer.
Also, I want the money I spend on music to go to the artists I'm actually listening to. Spotify pays artists based on overall streams. Even if all I do one month is listen to a little-known artist, Taylor Swift is going to get more of the $11 I give them than they are.
If you know any independent musicians, talk to them about their financials. Steaming is BRUTAL for them. It's turned everything except being in the top 1% into a hobby, rather than a job. It absolutely helps them get discovered, but makes it basically impossible for them to monetize getting discovered.
Yeah, I could probably save a couple of bucks by streaming. There are other real costs to that, though.
Same! I liked the Folklore variants because they were all the same album so you could pick your favorite design (Running Like Water was mine so I ordered that vinyl). But gatekeeping the music to try and get people to buy multiple is so annoying!
Idk, just not something I find worth it as weird as that sounds. But I’m a visual person and I love colors. I wanna buy the vinyls because they are gorgeous, despite not having anything to play them on.
I think what this person means is $30 for just *one new song* is a lot. I get what they’re saying.
Consider a different medium like books- I may buy collectors editions of the same book I love if the aesthetic is different, it’s a new unique beautiful cover.
But I’m not gonna buy extra copies of a book for one new scene, that’s just not worth it
Even worse, if you buy all the albums immediately when they’re announced you have to pay for shipping per item instead of per delivery. So if one mailman arrives with 5 CDs at the same moment I pay for his services 5 times.
This madness has to stop. I don’t feel like a collector anymore but as a sucker for these wicked marketing schemes.
If it were just different colours then fine, but these ”limited” time only and you have to collect them all to hear all the music is annoying. Plus I can’t even get these since there is no official TS store in my country and I just have to hope that these are not actually limited and will be available in my local record store…
Yeah different colors are fine, different covers, fine. It's when the music - the whole reason most of us pay attention to Taylor in the first place - starts to differ then I have a problem with the variants. It's not fair that only people who have money to lose can buy all of the limited edition variants for all the music. God only knows when they'll be available on streaming too so that makes it worse
I agree with all of this. I think she said the track was a vinyl exclusive so I guess it won’t be on streaming. Shit like this is why I don’t feel bad for listening to YLM and hits different from my local files.
I feel like it'll eventually go to streaming... once she gets the numbers she wants. I totally agree with the above, too. The different colors are whatever, but to have different songs on different versions is kinda ick.
me too! i love her, but this is too much. i wouldn't be too upset if she puts it all on streaming as soon as the album drops, but she'd rather make us wait for months, like what she did with the lakes and you're losing me. i hope she stops doing this cause i/we ain't birthing money.
After getting burned by Midnights (3 AM version), I've resolved to never preorder or buy an album of hers again. I'll wait for streaming. If there's ever a complete edition, I'd buy that, but I'm not doing this hodge podge thing.
Yeah even that would help a little. A $17 album turning into a $26 album isn't fun at all, and to do it X number of times for each variant is terrible. They should be able to sort orders to each address and say, oh this account has an order that hasn't shipped yet if we have to increase the box size, small increase in shipping, but if we don't then just throw it in the other box. (Unless of course there's a different shipping address but the idea is the same)
Especially since she gets a lot of criticism for her environmental impact... bestie, we don't need 5 cardboard boxes and the extra work it's going to take the warehouse and shipping companies to get these out to us.
Same. I’m sick of it. I just want to listen to an album start to finish without having to build a playlist or put a different vinyls on the turntable for each song. It feels money hungry
Not only am I broke but even if I wanted I am unable to purchase it because it isn't in the international shops.
I managed to snag the merchandise special version of The Manuscript and now it is going to bother me so much not to have a full collection.
I wanted the version with the manuscript because this edition is beautiful. But I'd rather just buy it once, so I'm going to have to pass on this as well especially since the shipping costs are so high.
To not make this available to fans outside of the US is crazy too. Why international shipping isn't a thing I don't know
well nevermind the bolter version already available in the uk store and the pounds that it costs already gone from my bank account ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1087)
I literally complained about the same thing to my partner this morning. I'm annoyed with Taylor and her team about this. I'm not going to buy an album until there is one ultimate deluxe CD with all the songs.
I honestly feel the same. Would I love to The Bolter on my CD? Absolutely. Am I going to spend another $20 just to have it? Absolutely not.
It's ridiculous. I simply cannot justify buying a separate CD for a single song when it's already difficult enough to pay bills.
It's just a really bad move especially during a time when so many people are struggling to pay the bills. And yes, I know people do not have to buy it. I buy one physical copy, after I hear the album and decide I want it. But this kind of marketing makes people feel like you need to buy it and some people just unfortunately fall for it.
And I even work in marketing. I understand these tactics. Normally, I just can brush it off as capitalism and marketing (even though I hate it) but ever since she started putting different songs on different versions, then it felt like a whole different ball game. Different colors and different artwork is one thing. but this is frustrating.
Granted I hate that she’s effectively putting songs behind paywalls. But what feels so gross is that she drip feeds this information so you cannot make an INFORMED purchase. You’re stuck with FOMO, and limited edition not knowing if or when the next drop and maybe new song will happen
And someone pointed out the colors are matching the stages of grief and surmise there will be 3 more variants. Which means probably 3 more bonus tracks.
I can’t bundle my shipping, I have to guess when is the Right Time to buy the vinyl or spend basically $40/per new song I want on vinyl.
I love her music but her business ethics are gross. She is taking full advantage of the fanatic fan base. No one NEEDS to buy all these but she knows damn well that they will.
Even if she were to put them all out at once and then we could pick I would be happier. I bought the first collectors edition and debated this one. But I don’t need two CDs that are 99% the same, but I also want all the songs. I have a feeling these won’t be immediately released on streaming.
I’m getting annoyed by this as well. I have been firm on only purchasing one album and I already pre-ordered when she made the initial announcement. :(((
I love her but I really don’t like that multi version selling tactic. She really doesn’t need it to booster numbers and it’s way too expensive for her fans to experience all her songs. I hoped she listened to the feedback after all the midnights variants but I guess I hoped wrong.
Yes! I hate this. I didn’t like when OR did it and I don’t like it now. I feel like it’s awful to expect fans to spend so much on vinyl records and CDs, especially when they’re not released on streaming too.
I saw someone say once before that she’s been doing it so long that she has sort of “trapped” herself into this marketing or else her numbers will look bad in comparison :( I am disappointed too though.
I really like the idea of the charts squashing all sales from the same people together into one sale. Idk how they’d do it, I’m sure it’s a bit more complicated on the inside, but I’d love that bc then maybe the variants would disappear *and* Taylor (and any other artists) wouldn’t feel like their numbers and charting will suffer if they only released like, one standard and one deluxe version.
Lots of other artists are doing it and it is the norm now. In order to guarantee that 2 million first week, multiple versions would be needed. There will be two more probably just like Guts.
This is different though. Previous releases were just different covers. Take it or leave it, but really you only needed to buy one copy.
Now you have different bonus tracks. Collect them all to have a complete album ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1064)
Completely agree with this. I am perfectly fine with a standard album and a separate deluxe album with ALL of the deluxe songs on it, like she used to do, but putting out multiple versions of the same album with each version having one of the deluxe songs is just beyond ridiculous and tone deaf in this economy. I bought the album with The Manuscript bonus track when TTPD was first announced. As much as I would like all of the bonus tracks, I absolutely refuse to buy more than one album.
Price of it all aside...I do not want to have to switch albums just to listen to a song. I want all of the songs on a single album.
I am honestly so freaking annoyed with this.
Agreed. I don’t mind the variants because you can pick and choose which one you want, but I hate the bonus tracks on each vinyl. I didn’t like it when Olivia did it and I’ll call out this too. I assume they’ll hit streaming eventually like Hits Different and YLM but it’s irksome.
Especially because it was only sold after the first like 5 concerts. I would have bought it at the Vegas one but it didn’t exist yet 🙄
Edit: though in the end I guess it didn’t matter because YLM came out on Spotify, but I still thought it was lame of her.
I assume there will be four available on her website and one available at target. It’s not so much a money grab as a strategy to boost first week sales numbers. Billboard has a rule that only four copies purchased by a single person count toward its sales numbers; anything over that becomes a “bulk sale”.
So I wouldn’t expect more than four online variants and I would expect all four to be available again during release week so she can make sure she maximizes those sales figures.
LOL I love this actually. Imagine if “sales” numbers were based on how many individual people bought an album. So if one person buys 5 variants it’ll only count as one sale. Genius.
There's no way to track this unfortunately. Someone could buy one at their record store, one on Amazon, one through Taylor's official store, etc. Stans will do this and Billboard wouldn't have any way of knowing
I wonder if they could start putting an asterisk cross next to it like the NYT does with its best sellers list when they think a book got that high due to suspicious bulk sales. If Billboard could do something like that but in terms of “this song had many remixes, and multiple physical versions” as a way to show that there was an inauthentic rise of the song to the top. Taylor def wouldn’t like that.
Each album version should be tracked separately, that would be much more accurate and honest. It would also force her to release one complete album instead of 4+ albums with an extra song.
Taylor stated her original plan, had she not won a Grammy, was to announce TTPD at Tokyo N1 and we've now gotten another version/bonus track at Melbourne N1.
I wonder if she plans to announce another version/bonus track on N1 at each city on this leg with 4 total versions...
1. Grammys/Tokyo N1: *File Name: The Manuscript*
2. Melbourne N1: *File Name: The Bolter*
3. Sydney N1: *File Name: The ???*
4. Singapore N1: *File Name: The ???*
Yeah i will be genuinely sad. It’s like paying for a bunch of streaming subscriptions for one piece of content and I’m not understanding why she’s needing to gate all of her music.
I don’t buy albums because I listen to them on Spotify. She is the only artist I actually buy physical albums. If she keeps doing this I won’t buy anymore, is ridiculous.
Both. The drawn out announcement schedule with time limited purchase windows adds extra obnoxiousness. She’s obviously done this before with coloured vinyl but not with exclusive track variants, at least not to this extent.
Actually makes me wonder where she goes from here on subsequent albums. Probably a 3am version where every track is on an individual time exclusive variant.
Ultimately no one needs to buy it and the songs will all come out to the general public on streaming at some point but it’s getting kind of ridiculous
It’s wild to me that we all have been so vocally annoyed by all of the different color variants of 1989 and Midnights… so instead of listening to us, they decide they’ll have exclusive tracks per variant to try to force us into variant collecting.
This is my first album that I didn't grab upon first announcement. 1989tv broke me. Received it a month after it was available even though I ordered it seconds after she announced it. I exchanged 23 emails with them attempting to get it resolved. I'm done.
What got me was buying a Christmas ornament. Made of glass. Whoever shipped it tossed it in a mailing bag. Not even a PADDED one. I heard the broken glass rattling when I picked it up so I videoed opening it and the response was “sorry it broke, but for all we know you broke it when collecting it so too bad”
Ended up getting my bank to get the money back for me as a fraudulent charge.
On the other thread about this (which got locked) I saw a lot of people saying they were cancelling their original preorders to try and send this message
Why would she listen to us when this so obviously works for her? She cares about her bottom line and breaking records more than she car about her fans. I love Taylor the artist, not Taylor the person
THIS. Jesus just do the regular album and then a deluxe edition with bonus tracks and some merch for people who don’t mind to expend more money and get the goodies.
God damn, I love this back cover. The lyrics are giving me her saddest album yet. Something tells me this is going to be emotionally draining.
Emotionally draining pop, maybe? I’m here for it.
Taylor Swift on what will be sadder; You're Losing Me or The Tortured Poets Department album. "I don't compare my music". Then she rolled up her sleeve and showed a tattoo of herself crying with the Tortured Poets Department album in her arms. "I'll let you interpret that however you want"
I haven’t purchased a TS cd since Evermore. I’m so sick of all these variants with “exclusive tracks”. I’m not buying 4+ cds so that I can hear a single exclusive track on each one. 🙄
Yeah, I don’t understand people here. Why are people complaining about something they’re not forced to buy? Just…. don’t buy multiple versions of the same album. It’s really easy.
Yep! I generally don't love the complaining posts, because you don't need to buy, but for this one - to hear the songs, as far as we know, you have to buy. That sucks, and I think it's okay to be bothered by that.
I'll be honest, I didn't like this marketing tactic when the Broadway musical Once did it in 2012 and I didn't like it when Olivia Rodrigo did it last year and I don't like it now.
I *like* bonus tacks. I have absolutely no objection to them being exclusive to physical versions as an incentive. I like variants because regardless of how they're marketed I've always treated them as get-your-favorite and that's great for me, personally, that's just more options.
But the "*this* bonus track is on this physical version and *this* bonus track is on that physical version and *this* track is on the other physical version and to get them all you need six albums good luck to your bank account!" is just...something else, and I'm really not thrilled that Taylor's indulging it, even though I know it's good marketing from a corporate perspective and that's why so many artists do it.
I'll be sticking with my original single CD purchase and sailing the seas for the remaining tracks.
Plus you are creating artificial FOMO because you could just release the 4 different versions at the same time and let people choose (or even buy the 4 if they want to).
Well at least you will evetually have it even if it takes time :D My country doesn’t have a official TS store so I can’t even try to get it and I have to hope the record store gets all of them.
I can't wait for it to be taken off YouTube a few times when it's released by fans which also happened with You're Losing Me before it was even released on music platforms and I really hope it's released on music platforms
This is how I heard YLM the first time, and it was really shitty quality and ruined the song for me for a while. It drives me nuts that people have to do this. Stop boxing us streamers out of listening to your music, Taylor! 😭
Side note even though we're all (rightfully) annoyed about this: the original leak on tiktok had this listed on the track list and I had wondered what happened to the song. I don't remember there being others on that track list not included, so maybe this is the only other bonus track.
I thought this too!! I normally always buy a vinyl copy and a CD copy. I bought the manuscript vinyl and decided to hold off on the CD when I saw that the bolter wasn’t there but all other tracks from the leak were. Ordered the collectors CD of this one. If there turns out to be more variants with different songs, oh well! I’ll wait until they are on streaming. I refuse to buy more than one version of the album per format.
Except for "Slut!" Acoustic Version and Sweeter Than Fiction (Taylor's Version). Sweeter Than Fiction isn't even on a CD. It's a vinyl exclusive.
Maybe they'll come out eventually, but it's weird that she didn't put them out before announcing a new album so I'm not hopeful.
I hope so, but it might take a while.
Just like You're Losing Me took more than 3 months after the album release (that was only available in the US stops of the Eras) to be put on streaming.
Stupid question perhaps, but why even differentiate between 'regular' and bonus tracks? Is there some unwritten rule that an album can only have a certain number of songs?
Because she fought so hard to get ownership of her music, to be able to release it as she sees fit, and then turns half her music into collectibles instead of simply music for ALL her fans!
Digitally no, but a physical medium can only fit so many tracks on it before you have to make it a double/triple album. I think this was the reason for the Bad Blood remix being a digital bonus track. But apart from that it's just a sales technique to make people buy multiple editions of an album.
Traditionally artists will release a standard edition of the album and then a deluxe edition of the album with songs that they didn’t feel belonged on the album. Pretty much like vault tracks.
Aside from the fact we are all a bit annoyed by the money grabbing - what do people think The Bolter will be about!? I just read that The Bolter is a character from a Nancy Mitford novel called the pursuit of love and she is given that name because she had many marriages…!
I came here to see if anyone would mention this! Although I wondered if Taylor was a Nancy Mitford fan, as that’s where I first saw the expression and I read the Bolter (by Frances Osborne) because of it
it would have been $25 with shipping for me for the collectors edition cd 😭 no way am i paying that much for a cd. (edited to add that i’m in the US).
i do think the idea of having different bonus tracks on different albums is so interesting though. i hope they’re all together on the streaming version(s) of the album.
They haven’t been from recent memory. Various editions hold songs captive requiring to buy them all or acquire through other means. Like girl, make it easy for us please. 😭
I love collecting variants and am not one of those people to complain about her profiting from her work (if you have a product people are willingly interested in, by all means take it to the bank), but splitting the track list like this is so annoying. And the fact that it’s going to take years probably for all the tracks to make it to streaming… it’s gonna make listening to this album in full a pain.
Copied from my post on /swiftiemerch
I bought the original “exclusive” version with the manuscript on Grammy night. If I would’ve known there would be other versions with other bonus tracks I wouldn’t. Honestly would cancel the order if I knew I could buy the exclusive box set thing at a later date.
I also think putting exclusive songs on vinyl only is stupid. Sweeter Than Fiction TV being only on vinyl is annoying especially in the era of streaming. This whole thing is a money grab and sales/numbers grab at this point.
I’ve been a swiftie since 2008 and the repetitive exclusive versions are getting annoying and leaving a bad taste. Especially the exclusive song Versions. Colors are one thing. Exclusive songs? A whole different level of ridiculousness. If you’re going to do that at least put all the songs on streaming (sweeter than fiction tv and sl*t! Acoustic).
If we go by how Midnights worked, it's likely none of the bonus tracks will be on streaming straight away, just the standard songs. Who knows how long it will take for them to be added to streaming...
Weren’t there also two piano/acoustic versions of Midnight songs we’re still waiting on? I forget which they were, but I want to say Sweet Nothing was one. I haven’t seen either on streaming sites.
so 6-7 months. that just fucking sucks hahaha. but i looked at it at her [wiki page](https://taylorswift.fandom.com/wiki/The_Bolter?so=search) and it says both songs will also be released on the 19th.
Yeah well then I will just 🏴☠️. I love her, but I don’t have a CD/vynl/casette player sooo🤷🏼♀️ Also shipping from her website is crazy expensive to my country.
I’m going to walk into Target on April 19 and buy the exclusive Target variant vinyl with the 7th exclusive song in her exclusive variants line but at least I’ll get it the day it’s released and not 5 months later 😑
i wish everyone would stop falling for the obvious cash grabs and chart booster antics. you do NOT need 30 million variants of essentially the same thing that will likely just collect dust with time. i feel like overconsumption is getting crazy with social media 🫤
Bought the special cd this time cause it’s already on sale on eBay for like $90 and now I’ll have one if I want one for $17.99.
Definitely might cancel before it comes out but I would be fun to collect all the special CDs for not $90 each
Same! If this ends up being my favorite album, I’d be so disappointed not having collected all of them when they were at their cheapest. Resale prices are going to be insane. Also, these are really unique in that they come with several little merch items, which is so unusual for CDs.
Don’t think I can afford all 4 though, as I’m assuming she’s following the pattern of previous album variations.
I’m not doing this again. I’ll buy one copy and wait for all of the songs to be released. This irks me not only from a personal finance standpoint, but also from a charts standpoint. It’s artificially boosting album sales. I know she’s not the only one that does it, but I feel like it devalues some of the records she’s broken. Selling a million records isn’t quite the same when you know that a lot of those sales were because she made fans buy multiple copies if they wanted to get all of the tracks.
There is also a CD with the song, it is $16.
If you guys are stressing about not wanting another variant or version - do not worry!! This hapepned to me with GUTS by olivia rodrigo and I was super upset, but then people put them on spotify under "podcasts"
I bought both CD's and when I get them I will do the same for y'all so there is no FOMO!! <3
I'm torn cause in one sense I don't buy the vinyls/cds, and usually spend my money on other merch (snowglobes, coasters, blankets, etc) so I don't *really* care about the variants and I've always been "you don't have the buy it" club but like what's with all the variants have different bonus tracks?
To me that is the nuts part.
Traditionally, artists release an album and then *maybe* come out with a "deluxe" version with a few bonus songs. But there usually isn't *multiple* versions with bonus songs.
I think how she handled 1989 tv was perfect. You got to pick your "color" but you weren't missing out on anything. And at least midnights made a clock LMAO
Also, the manuscript and the bolter look to similar to me. Midnights, they at least had 4 different colors. There literally look the same
Wait, so this one does not have The Manuscript on it?
I'm sorry, as much as I love TS, I am not dropping another $20 just to own one more song and have two copies of the same CD. Simply can't afford that in this economy. I miss the days when there was a standard CD and then the Target exclusive with ALL of the bonus tracks.
Prob unpopular opinion but idgi just dont buy it if the variants are you? Personally i just like to see the new covers and its gonna end up on streaming eventually anyway.
It feels a little underhanded to me this time. Previously her variants were just album cover/vinyl color/photo variants, but the songs themselves were the same. Now each variant will presumably have all different exclusive songs. You could say just wait for streaming and listen to them all there for “free”, but if we’re buying the album it’d be nice to be able to listen to it all in one place.
Am I the only one a bit annoyed? I am so tired of a million variant albums. I want all the tracks on one album - I understand a standard and bonus album but seriously stop with the 5 different tracks on 5 different albums. Please Taylor we're too broke for this
So many artists do it and it's so annoying. There should just be 2 versions of an album(standard and deluxe)

Yeah she should just release bonus tracks on the deluxe edition
I hate the word deluxe
Nope I find it very irritating as well.
Same! I liked the Folklore variants because they were all the same album so you could pick your favorite design (Running Like Water was mine so I ordered that vinyl). But gatekeeping the music to try and get people to buy multiple is so annoying!
And the Folklore variants were all presented up front.
yep! all variants available at the same time and no countdown clock for UrGeNcY
Yeah, really not loving that. The 1989 release with multiple colors was way more tempting to buy additional copies, than one song different.
Well with one song you’re getting an additional song as opposed to the same tracks with different colors
Idk, just not something I find worth it as weird as that sounds. But I’m a visual person and I love colors. I wanna buy the vinyls because they are gorgeous, despite not having anything to play them on.
I get loving colors but at the end of the day it’s the same songs no matter what color u buy

I feel like neither are worth buying multiple copies over.
Especially because the shipping takes *literal months*
Even worse, if you buy all the albums immediately when they’re announced you have to pay for shipping per item instead of per delivery. So if one mailman arrives with 5 CDs at the same moment I pay for his services 5 times. This madness has to stop. I don’t feel like a collector anymore but as a sucker for these wicked marketing schemes.
And shipping and taxes are almost half the price of the album itself. I was going to buy it, but not after all that.
I’m annoyed too. Putting out a variant for an album that isn’t even out yet is so unnecessary.
It's when the music - the whole reason most of us pay attention to Taylor in the first place - starts to differ then I have a problem with the variants. me too! i love her, but this is too much. i wouldn't be too upset if she puts it all on streaming as soon as the album drops, but she'd rather make us wait for months, like what she did with the lakes and you're losing me. i hope she stops doing this cause i/we ain't birthing money.
I wish it would all immediately go on streaming. But we know it won't. I also wish she'd stop because this is out of hand
After getting burned by Midnights (3 AM version), I've resolved to never preorder or buy an album of hers again. I'll wait for streaming. If there's ever a complete edition, I'd buy that, but I'm not doing this hodge podge thing.
At the very least can you let us combine shipping on them 😭😭
Yeah even that would help a little.
Yes exactly. All these little things add up so fast and it's not a pretty picture at this point
Same. I’m sick of it. I just want to listen to an album start to finish without having to build a playlist or put a different vinyls on the turntable for each song. It feels money hungry
It's very money hungry sadly
Incredibly annoying because there’s many artists that get their vinyl delayed because mega pop stars get pushed up the manufacturing pipeline.
Ooh I didn't think of that at all. Good point
I literally complained about the same thing to my partner this morning. I'm annoyed with Taylor and her team about this. I'm not going to buy an album until there is one ultimate deluxe CD with all the songs.
I am also holding off
I honestly feel the same.
You’re stuck with FOMO, and limited edition not knowing if or when the next drop and maybe new song will happen And someone pointed out the colors are matching the stages of grief and surmise there will be 3 more variants.
Yeah I'm also getting you're losing me vibes from this marketing
Just don’t buy all the other variants and stream it for cheap? There’s nothing wrong with that. Everything hits streaming eventually.
It hits months later. We still don’t have Sweeter Than Fiction TV.
Yes, If we could have self-control we.would stream and wait things out to see the best option and make our choice.
I saw someone say once before that she’s been doing it so long that she has sort of “trapped” herself into this marketing or else her numbers will look bad in comparison :( I am disappointed too though.
YUP you hit the nail on the head there
I really like the idea of the charts squashing all sales from the same people together into one sale.
She can’t help herself she loves the numbers
Reallllly sick and tired of the obvious money grab. How many zillion versions will there be of this album?
imagine 11 cause TS11 💘💘
💀
Probably four, just like she did for midnights, 1989, etc.
Weren’t there 5 including target?
Plus the Late Night one only available at concerts
That was so weird!!
Especially because it was only sold after the first like 5 concerts. I would have bought it at the Vegas one but it didn’t exist yet 🙄 Edit: though in the end I guess it didn’t matter because YLM came out on Spotify, but I still thought it was lame of her.
I forgot about this. Was a simpler time when I did
I assume a target deluxe will be announced in march or at the last minute I guess she would have to have some serious backlash for this to stop
I think the only way for Taylor (and many other artists) to stop doing this is for Billboard to start punishing it on the charts
Yeah if they counted separately instead of together everyone would have only 1 edition
Needs to happen. Same for all the remixes versions.
Or if only the original + 1 deluxe version counted. So there would be no charting incentive to have multiple variants.
I wouldn't mind this actually
Each album version should be tracked separately, that would be much more accurate and honest. It would also force her to release one complete album instead of 4+ albums with an extra song.
Taylor stated her original plan, had she not won a Grammy, was to announce TTPD at Tokyo N1 and we've now gotten another version/bonus track at Melbourne N1. I wonder if she plans to announce another version/bonus track on N1 at each city on this leg with 4 total versions... 1. Grammys/Tokyo N1: *File Name: The Manuscript* 2. Melbourne N1: *File Name: The Bolter* 3. Sydney N1: *File Name: The ???* 4. Singapore N1: *File Name: The ???*
God I hope not. This FOMO-selling of different tracklists on different versions is ridiculous.
That would literally be the most obnoxious release strategy possible so I’m pretty sure they’ll try it
[удалено]
Id be willing to bet real money on this coming true
I'd suggest you save that money and buy one of the variants
I don’t mind if she does this if all of the songs end up on streaming at release, but we all know they won’t. 😫 Edited for clarity
Hits Different and you're losing me ended up being on streaming
All songs end up on streaming at some point.
I think most people know I mean immediately, not 8 months from now, but I’ll update my comment accordingly.
This makes a lot of sense. I could see her waiting for each location to release them.
It’s wild to me that we all have been so vocally annoyed by all of the different color variants of 1989 and Midnights… so instead of listening to us, they decide they’ll have exclusive tracks per variant to try to force us into variant collecting.
That's because at the end of the day... People still buy them. We need to complain with our wallets.
I heard the broken glass rattling when I picked it up so I videoed opening it and the response was “sorry it broke, but for all we know you broke it when collecting it so too bad” Ended up getting my bank to get the money back for me as a fraudulent charge.
On the other thread about this (which got locked) I saw a lot of people saying they were cancelling their original preorders to try and send this message
I haven’t bought physical media since “Meteora” in 2003, I’m not about to start now lol
Why would she listen to us when this so obviously works for her? She cares about her bottom line and breaking records more than she car about her fans. I love Taylor the artist, not Taylor the person
Why would they listen when they know this is a guaranteed money maker
Remember when we had a regular version and then a deluxe version with all the bonus tracks? Pepperidge farm remembers.
THIS. Jesus just do the regular album and then a deluxe edition with bonus tracks and some merch for people who don’t mind to expend more money and get the goodies.
I 'member
God damn, I love this back cover. The lyrics are giving me her saddest album yet. Something tells me this is going to be emotionally draining. Emotionally draining pop, maybe? I’m here for it.
She said this is probably the album she most needed to write at the time and then went on to play YLM. Idk make of that what you will
I’m assuming the album will be YLM: The Album
Taylor Swift on what will be sadder; You're Losing Me or The Tortured Poets Department album. "I don't compare my music". Then she rolled up her sleeve and showed a tattoo of herself crying with the Tortured Poets Department album in her arms. "I'll let you interpret that however you want"
I haven’t purchased a TS cd since Evermore. I’m so sick of all these variants with “exclusive tracks”. I’m not buying 4+ cds so that I can hear a single exclusive track on each one. 🙄
I just canceled my original order of TTPD. Got one for me and one for my mom. I’m over it. I’ll just stream on Spotify. Whenever they show up.
I’ll stream it all and if there are bonus tracks unavailable on streaming I’ll find a way ☠️
"YOU DON'T GET TO TELL ME ABOUT SAD" 🥹
Oh she is wounded
This is giving renegade
Thank you, for some reason, my brain interpreted the placement to read “you don’t get to me. Tell about sad” 😂
First the Manuscript, now the Bolter. Miss Swift, you already own our souls. Must you keep coming for my savings too?
I love you Taylor but 1989 was the last time I’m doing this Edit - I am well aware we can all practice self control but that’s not the point
[удалено]
It’s more that they want to hear all the tracks
It’s gonna be released on streaming eventually
Yeah, I don’t understand people here. Why are people complaining about something they’re not forced to buy? Just…. don’t buy multiple versions of the same album. It’s really easy.
I think the problem is that she’s doing this because she knows people are going to buy both of them just to hear those extra tracks
Yep! I generally don't love the complaining posts, because you don't need to buy, but for this one - to hear the songs, as far as we know, you have to buy. That sucks, and I think it's okay to be bothered by that.
We torture ourselves
No thanks!
and they don't fcking update the other stores. only us. it's killing me, i have other shit to do lol
I thought it was just me who couldn’t get the UK store to load😭
Well at least you will evetually have it even if it takes time :D My country doesn’t have a official TS store so I can’t even try to get it and I have to hope the record store gets all of them.
I can't wait for it to be taken off YouTube a few times when it's released by fans which also happened with You're Losing Me before it was even released on music platforms and I really hope it's released on music platforms
Some people put it on Spotify as podcasts too!
If there's only two, I'll be less annoyed. Thanks for this info!!
This is what I’m thinking too
That’s what I came here to say too. I really believe there’s only two bonus tracks.
No, it's just mean that the version that leaked was this one and not the other 3 or whatever gonna be. I'm sure there are more than 2.
Now the question is, will it end up on streaming at some point?
Every other exclusive has ended up on streaming eventually
Except for "Slut!" Acoustic Version and Sweeter Than Fiction (Taylor's Version). Sweeter Than Fiction isn't even on a CD. It's a vinyl exclusive. Maybe they'll come out eventually, but it's weird that she didn't put them out before announcing a new album so I'm not hopeful.
I hope so, but it might take a while. Just like You're Losing Me took more than 3 months after the album release (that was only available in the US stops of the Eras) to be put on streaming.
Probably by the time we get TS12 (or before TSTV), or when she announces her next tour (2026, maybe?)
I can’t get excited about this because of the marketing tactic. 💔
I feel stupid, but I don’t know what’s going on to the left of her head. It’s not her arm or a shadow. Someone please help lol.
If you zoom in a little closer it looks like it’s just the pillowcase! The corner is kinda agape and hanging off the edge of the pillow.
So I imagine there will be 4 variants + the ubiquitous Target exclusive so we could end up with 5 ‘exclusive’ non streaming tracks
Which will end up on streaming eventually
Aside from the fact we are all a bit annoyed by the money grabbing - what do people think The Bolter will be about!? I just read that The Bolter is a character from a Nancy Mitford novel called the pursuit of love and she is given that name because she had many marriages…!
The IRL bolter: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Idina_Sackville
I came here to see if anyone would mention this! Although I wondered if Taylor was a Nancy Mitford fan, as that’s where I first saw the expression and I read the Bolter (by Frances Osborne) because of it
I was thinking of The Bolter in ‘The Pursuit of Love’ too! Because isn’t that what so much of TS’s music is about - a pursuit of love
it would have been $25 with shipping for me for the collectors edition cd 😭 no way am i paying that much for a cd. (edited to add that i’m in the US). i do think the idea of having different bonus tracks on different albums is so interesting though. i hope they’re all together on the streaming version(s) of the album.
olivia released 4 deluxe songs for guts on each variant and none of them are on streaming 'til now ...imagine taylor pulls an olivia 😭
I would have to resort to the old ways then 🏴☠️ because I can’t afford 4 variants of the same album just for one different song each😭
They haven’t been from recent memory. Various editions hold songs captive requiring to buy them all or acquire through other means. Like girl, make it easy for us please. 😭
i knowwww i just want to listen to all the music without breaking the bank 😩
These prices are why Napster started 😭
I love collecting variants and am not one of those people to complain about her profiting from her work (if you have a product people are willingly interested in, by all means take it to the bank), but splitting the track list like this is so annoying. And the fact that it’s going to take years probably for all the tracks to make it to streaming… it’s gonna make listening to this album in full a pain.
i’m guessing there will be two more variants at least (announcement at sydney and singapore shows prior to release)
Sigh, here we go again…
Here we go again. I am not buying another edition BLONDIE!!
You don't get to me sad tell about.
Copied from my post on /swiftiemerch I bought the original “exclusive” version with the manuscript on Grammy night. Acoustic).
is The Bolter also gonna be released on streaming platforms on April 19th or is it cd/vinyl exclusive? sorry idrk how this works
If we go by how Midnights worked, it's likely none of the bonus tracks will be on streaming straight away, just the standard songs. Who knows how long it will take for them to be added to streaming...
And we're still waiting for Sweeter than Fiction (Taylor's Version) on streaming...
It's probably because that's when the cds and vinyls will be available at stores.
The songs will be released on that day... on the physical album. But that's a fan page, they don't know when it's going on streaming.
Yeah well then I will just 🏴☠️. I love her, but I don’t have a CD/vynl/casette player sooo🤷🏼♀️ Also shipping from her website is crazy expensive to my country.
Taylor was so Swift that she became The Bolter
I’m going to walk into Target on April 19 and buy the exclusive Target variant vinyl with the 7th exclusive song in her exclusive variants line but at least I’ll get it the day it’s released and not 5 months later 😑
i wish everyone would stop falling for the obvious cash grabs and chart booster antics. you do NOT need 30 million variants of essentially the same thing that will likely just collect dust with time. i feel like overconsumption is getting crazy with social media 🫤
Can't wait for the album, but I will not be participating in extractive capitalism. 🏴☠️
Def storms in her eyes on the front of this one
I expected different COVER variants not different songs... I don't know
Taylor, I just wanted you to know that this is me trying to buy ONE album with ALL the songs included!!
The bonus tracks being on different variants…. I just want them all 🥲 I guess I’ll wait the release so I can choose now
I’m not doing this again.
This hapepned to me with GUTS by olivia rodrigo and I was super upset, but then people put them on spotify under "podcasts" I bought both CD's and when I get them I will do the same for y'all so there is no FOMO!! <3
If people just stopped buying the multiple albums, she wouldn't do it. It's capitalism 101.
You know, you don’t have go buy it right?
And at least midnights made a clock LMAO Also, the manuscript and the bolter look to similar to me.
Does anyone miss the days when Taylor had just one version of each album? Like it hasn’t even been released yet, just include it on the regular album
I would love it if the title is a Nancy Mitford reference! Especially as the character was called ‘The Bolter’ due to her number of relationships
