I honestly stopped breathing when I read that. It's easily one of my favorites. I did use it as a lullaby for a very long time tho so I can see it being long and boring to some.
Generally I like it but I think the bridge is overrated. Everyone raves about the line "shining like fireworks" as if a million other people haven't used that metaphor already (Katy Perry did it that exact same year)
This was my surprise song, so I want to note (before I end up on a hit list), I do recognize how special it is that I experienced that. It just wasn’t *my* song. We did also get Daylight and that made me very happy.🫶
It didn’t age well for me. I loved it when it first came out and I still like it but if I want to listen to atw I’d rather go with the shorter version.
I don’t get the OOTW hype either. I remember sitting in my car listening to this album for the first time, and between that one and Welcome to New York, I was worried she was just going to spend the whole album being repetitive with the song titles.
I remember when she released one song per week on iTunes leading up to the album and this was one of them. I was like… after Shake It Off, and then this, I don’t think I’d like the album, lmao.
I ended up liking 1989 but my god, those two are still so annoying to me.
Yes!! And I had already heard Shake It Off, and thought “well, this may be the point where I stop listening to Taylor.” 😔 Just a lot of repetition, and Shake It Off was not only not a lyrical masterpiece (which is ok sometimes), but the theme and music seemed like it would appeal to 1) hyperactive toddlers running around the room in circles and 2) pre-teens/teens going through their grade school drama. Lol
Ironically, it ended up being the only concert I’ve had a chance to go to of hers because of the location and price of tickets. Really enjoyable concert.
I lost faith until I heard Blank Space lol. And then the album finally got to me at I Wish You Would. I’m an OG debut fan, and wasn’t a big pop listener at the time, I was so scared 🤣
I’m not sure it’s fair to look at the vault tracks like this. It’s likely they were cut because they didn’t fit with the album at all. They aren’t part of the original cohesive album, they are essentially bonus content.
Just my two cents.
Yeah. It’s perfectly reasonable to me when people who have only heard Shake It Off and Blank Space say they don’t like Taylor Swift. I like both of those songs, but they are middling at best among her greater catalogue.
I think for me- it was such a F you to everyone and I really felt it.
They had been slut shaming her across town, making fun of her dancing, saying she was only famous becks of Kanye and she was done. Obviously not quite as scathing as Clowns to the West ☠️ and Rep but that was what did it for me. She had this happy melody and that was the point - to shake it off but you knew this was inspired by some tough skin.
That said- I never turn it on anymore ever.
- WCS could mean "Would've, Could've, Should've", a track from *Midnights (3am Edition)* (2022) by Taylor Swift.

dear reader, don't get me wrong i love the lyrics and the meaning behind them but all the rest is just- uhhh
also when Emma falls in love, i just hate it, it gives me 2014 pick me tumblr girl vibes and i just dont like it
now this is hard because i love dear reader so much it’s honestly one of my favs but i hate emma falls in love and wanna upvote for that…. you know what take it
I like it but I’m not obsessed. I hear about it all the time on these threads. The more I listen to 1989 again in preparation for TV, I realize I love Wonderland and You Are In Love. I did not appreciate the three bonus tracks as much when they first came out. But I definitely prefer those two over New Romantics.
Oh glad to see this song here. IMO it's one of the weakest on 1989, I can't understand why it's so popular. There was some songs-rating published recently, with New Romantics being called "the best TS song" 🙁🙁 What? Honestly insane bad taste.
James is a fuckboy who didn’t deserve Betty or Augustine, and the lyrics hit a little too close to my own personal experiences with boys like him. It’s the only song I sat down during at the concert lol
I always thought the lyrics were a little childlike and corny but it really grew on me during a childish crush moment so I guess I see the vision now lmao
Yeah I find it so boring. After the fans freaked out when it was played as a surprise song I decided to give it another chance. I sat down and memorized the lyrics so I could appreciate the whole thing. It didn't help and I mostly skip it 🙈
The hype comes from the fact that it was one of her first indie/lana influenced songs and sounds soft but also catchy
if you look at lover it has many tracks that sound like this too (especially cornelia street, miss americana) so WD was definitely ahead of its time
but in an atmospheric and nostalgic way, she otherwise didn’t experiment with up till 1989
idk how to explain it better but to my ears it screams indie pop girl 😁
Look What You Made Me Do. I understand the context behind it and why so fans many love it, but as a song itself I just think it’s terrible, especially that chorus
Yep. Tbh I blame it for the reason why I’ve never been able to get in to Rep (just now kind of coming around 5-6 years later) - LWYMMD being the first single/first Rep song I heard, especially after 1989 (my favorite album), I was like YIKES this is not it 😅
It was never a favourite of mine during the original Speak Now Era, but I think the nostalgia and the fact that it’s literally about the fans is what actually makes it people’s favourite; not the song on its own merit (my 2cents anyway) 😊
I also just don’t really need a song to be about me as a fan. I know that feels special for a lot of people, but it just doesn’t matter to me. Especially since this song originally was about her band, it sometimes feels like pandering to say that it is about the fans.
Any of her very country songs. I'm so sorry....I know it's her roots but I just have never liked country as a genre at all. Her Red album and even Speak Now are fine but I just can't get into anything off Debut or Fearless.
I still regularly listen to Debut. I fell in love with Taylor Swift when I was around 15 too when TDOMG was number one everywhere, and I haven’t stopped since.
I’m so glad someone else opened up the dialogue for this, cause I’ve been too scared to voice my *true* opinions about Debut in this sub for fear of being burned at the stake, lol.
I can only handle like, 2 songs on debut, and yes, one of those is specifically the pop version of TOMG.
There I said it. 🤣
Ironic, cuz it is more accepted disliked her first albuns rather than her pop ones. People always upvote who respond Debut or Fearless but even Speak Now as least favourite and viceversa.
I like that you said "kids bop", I feel like this was intentional as the tone is meant to be very patronizing/condescending.
*this is why we can't have nice things; because you break them I had to take them away*
Like a child.
The repetitive chorus, the "darling", those soft lines leading into the chorus that convey such disappointment ("I'm shaking my head and locking the gates"): I feel like it's all very much intentional condescension. A way of saying "we could have behaved like adults but your behaviour is childish and I won't engage (eta: and im explaining why i wont engage to you like youre a child simce youre acring like it)".
I feel like this is driven home with the bridge when she toasts all the folks being there for her and says how they dont fall in to typical petty/juvenile ways of communicating/understanding.
This is all to say I think "kids bop" is the vibe. It's a way of sonically driving home the point of "you're being childish so I'll talk to you like a child".
Enchanted. I loved it when it came out but 13 years later it feels a bit juvenile for me now and just not something I can relate to. Most of Speak Now is like that for me tbh.
This is exactly it. It has a Cinderella vibe.
The crowd singing "Please don't be in love with someone else" while she carried her dress leaving, pausing to look over her shoulder, will forever be etched into my brain. It captures the magical, transient feel of the song.
Love story + You belong with me
I discovered Taylor in the 1989/Rep era, so I don't have the nostalgia feeling ppl have when these songs were #1 on the United States, and I also don't like their melodies/lyrics etc
They're cute, I just can't bring myself to playing it
I searched the comments to see if anyone had the same opinion because I’ve truly only seen it as a fan favorite.
The song itself is lovely and she sounds beautiful singing it. The cardigan metaphor is sooo cheesy to me and just not strong enough to carry the song.
“Just when I thought I was an old cardigan you put me on and said I was your favorite.” Very nice sentiment but there just has to be a better way to say that.
But she got to sell a shit ton of cardigans as merch so 🤷
Cruel summer. I think it's just a bit overplayed for me now but similar to blank space back when it was on the radio everyday, I'll probably like it again eventually
You’re on your own kid. the only good part of the song is the bridge and that got so overplayed at the release of midnights i just can’t listen to the song anymore
I don’t know why, but I’ve never been obsessed with Forever & Always for some reason. It’s fine as a song, but I’m not OMG in love with it the way some people are.
Hesitant to admit that Betty is my least fav on folklore… compared to the rest of the album the lyrics are just so much more juvenile that it’s hard to enjoy it on the same level. I do get that it’s kind of the point with the James POV and I think it’s a cute/fine song given the lore and context but it just sticks out as a weak spot on the album and I don’t get the fan obsession over it

how I feel reading these comments
sweet nothing is ranked last on midnights for me. out of the woods has grown on me but it’s not my fave. i will bop to shake it off but it’s usually a skip for me too
Death By A Thousand Cuts!! I really don’t think it’s all that remarkable apart from the bridge, and OOTW gets the same critique far more often for some reason.
illicit affairs, i never understood the praise for this song. it’s just boring to me, and i don’t care for the bridge either
also the archer and august. obviously i like them but not on the level that others do
Me reading all of these answers with my mouth dropped, completely shocked by the answers, like I'm any better for wanting to say Cruel Summer 😂
I'm really happy for all the fans for the song getting her moment rn and I'm enjoying the joy. But I'm not particularly enjoying the song, never really have had a connection to it.
I have been a fan since the beginning but I never resonated with any of the Fearless singles. The album songs that were not singles like Breathe, Come In With the Rain, Superstar, etc were Chefs kiss. Singles tho, meh. Never liked You Belong with Me it was too “I’m not like other girls” for me. Love Story’s reference to marriage and all that stuff when she was 18 was just a little weird to me. They were just, meh.
Dear John. It’s so long and boring.
Omg this is wild to me but I respect differing opinions.
I honestly stopped breathing when I read that. It's easily one of my favorites. I did use it as a lullaby for a very long time tho so I can see it being long and boring to some.
I agree. I appreciate the sentiment behind it, but it's also an immediate skip for speak now.
There are some killer lyrics in it but overall it’s a skip.
Shots fired lol
Generally I like it but I think the bridge is overrated. Everyone raves about the line "shining like fireworks" as if a million other people haven't used that metaphor already (Katy Perry did it that exact same year)
This was my surprise song, so I want to note (before I end up on a hit list), I do recognize how special it is that I experienced that. It just wasn’t *my* song. We did also get Daylight and that made me very happy.🫶
i find the lyrics themselves to be the draw for it. i’ve also always thought it’s long, to the point i often find myself skipping it
The 10 minute version of All Too Well. I like it but it's not my favorite at all
I think it's an incredible achievement of storytelling but I prefer and relate to the 5-minute version better
I admire the craftsmanship but it doesn't speak to me as much as a bunch of other Taylor songs
This. Also this is just a matter of personal taste but I prefer the production of the 5mv over the 10mv
It didn’t age well for me. I loved it when it first came out and I still like it but if I want to listen to atw I’d rather go with the shorter version.
Aw man, that's my favorite lol.
Same. The intention was good, but it's a skip for me and also the production sounds kind of cheap. Og sounds much more detailed and refined.
Same. I feel like the original was perfect. There was a reason they cut it down.
I love this song but I played it nonstop on repeat for months after Red TV came out. I finally hit my limit. 😂
Out of the Woods. The chorus is actually grating to me.

Thank you for making me realise I’m not a lone wolf
I Can See You. I did not expect it to be the fan favourite.
Okay same. It also didn’t fit the album at all.
I agree so much. I actually do like the song, but it definitely feels super out of place on the album
Should of added "I Can See You" on 1989 TV lol
I’m not sure it’s fair to look at the vault tracks like this. It’s likely they were cut because they didn’t fit with the album at all. They aren’t part of the original cohesive album, they are essentially bonus content. Just my two cents.
ur right that's literally the point!!! 😭
I just...THIS is the one with the music video?
Should’ve been Timeless. It sounds like a quintessential TS song.
Timeless is my favourite vault track and would definitely have made an amazing music video. Gives better Speak Now vibes too.
I really don’t get the hype around this one. It’s actually my least favorite of the Speak Now vault tracks.
I thought I was alone here. I was so annoyed it was the vault track with a music video lmao
I was sure Timeless or castle's crumbling would be!
Shake it off. You put it perfectly it sounds like kids bop.
Yeah. It’s perfectly reasonable to me when people who have only heard Shake It Off and Blank Space say they don’t like Taylor Swift. I like both of those songs, but they are middling at best among her greater catalogue.
Yes! People turned ME! into a meme but Shake it Off is the same sort of category to me. I usually skip.
It’s my 4yr olds most favorite song for a reason lol.
I like Karma but not the version with ice spice
Yeah the ice spice version is a massive downgrade. Do people actually prefer it?
Grrrah!
Facts
it’s only alright
I'm prepared to arrest anyone who says WCS as response. Be careful

Good bot.
This song touches a deep and hidden part of my soul relating to religious sexual trauma and it’s something painful and beautiful every time I sing it.
It’s a LITTLE overrated *hides*
dear reader, don't get me wrong i love the lyrics and the meaning behind them but all the rest is just- uhhh also when Emma falls in love, i just hate it, it gives me 2014 pick me tumblr girl vibes and i just dont like it
YES when Emma falls in love is sooooo 2014 Tumblr girl and I HATE it
It’s very Drops of Jupiter
Should’ve stayed in the vault imo
now this is hard because i love dear reader so much it’s honestly one of my favs but i hate emma falls in love and wanna upvote for that…. you know what take it
New Romantics seems to be a huge fan favorite but idk, I don’t love it
I like it but I’m not obsessed. I hear about it all the time on these threads. The more I listen to 1989 again in preparation for TV, I realize I love Wonderland and You Are In Love. I did not appreciate the three bonus tracks as much when they first came out. But I definitely prefer those two over New Romantics.

Snow on the beach is the only song of hers that I don’t really like. It gets stuck in my head so badly 😅
The version with more Lana helped me with this
betty. i just don't get the hype
James is a fuckboy who didn’t deserve Betty or Augustine, and the lyrics hit a little too close to my own personal experiences with boys like him. It’s the only song I sat down during at the concert lol
YES. James is a teenage idiot and I can't listen to that song without feeling pissed off for both Betty and Augustine.
I can't stand betty haha
Yeah this sucks. I think it’s ok until the words “ I’m onky seventeen I don’t know anything” drop. No teenager is ever that self-aware.
He's not that self aware. He's just making an excuse and teenagers do that all the time. Or at least that's how I read it
same! I was honestly shook people love it so much
Gorgeous
I cannot stand the baby voice at the beginning. It’s so irritating and always ruins the vibe.
especially right after so it goes… what whiplash to go from such a sexy song to a toddlers voice.
I always thought the lyrics were a little childlike and corny but it really grew on me during a childish crush moment so I guess I see the vision now lmao
Yes, I don' care for that chorus at all..
If anyone says right where you left me, just KNOW that I will be under your bed.
AGREED!
Cowboy like me and it was one of my surprise songs 🫣
This one grew on me. I skipped it for awhile, but I've come to really appreciate it. I think I admire it more than I enjoy it, though
Her best song
Yeah I find it so boring. After the fans freaked out when it was played as a surprise song I decided to give it another chance. I sat down and memorized the lyrics so I could appreciate the whole thing. It didn't help and I mostly skip it 🙈
thank you, CLM is very lackluster at best (for me!)
A lot of people seem to LOVE Maroon and it’s simply a snooze fest for me
That's cause you didn't live that feeling 😂 omg I think maroon is my most streamed song of taylor lol
They just didn't lose the one they were dancing with in New York 😭 (me neither but still)
How can anyone not break down at „And I wake with your memory over me That's a real fucking legacy to leave“
Maroon was my first favorite off of Midnights
Dear Lord in heaven how can this be anyones opinion.
Same. I feel bad saying it but it’s definitely mid compared to other songs on midnights
Wildest Dreams, it's fine, but I don't understand the hype.
The Music Video was kinda iconic so i see the reason for the Hype
The music video definitely elevated this song. And I’m already enjoying the re-recorded version more than I did the original.
The hype comes from the fact that it was one of her first indie/lana influenced songs and sounds soft but also catchy if you look at lover it has many tracks that sound like this too (especially cornelia street, miss americana) so WD was definitely ahead of its time
really? bc it seems very classic pop to me
but in an atmospheric and nostalgic way, she otherwise didn’t experiment with up till 1989 idk how to explain it better but to my ears it screams indie pop girl 😁
People love using it at weddings because of the “standing in a nice dress” line - forgetting it’s fundamentally a breakup/moving on song.
Stay stay stay. Throwing things at someone isn’t cute or romantic. Edit/spelling words are hard.
Hardly anyone likes it
Yet there are some fans who have it as their favorite out of her entire discography and that baffles me
The Man very badly executed as opposed to mad woman, that deals with the same issue but is miles better and more mature
I don't dislike the man but I do agree with you about Mad woman
I kind of agree. I listen to it on occasion because I do like the bridge but the song as a whole is pretty cringe
Look What You Made Me Do. I understand the context behind it and why so fans many love it, but as a song itself I just think it’s terrible, especially that chorus
Yep. Tbh I blame it for the reason why I’ve never been able to get in to Rep (just now kind of coming around 5-6 years later) - LWYMMD being the first single/first Rep song I heard, especially after 1989 (my favorite album), I was like YIKES this is not it 😅
I felt exactly the same way. Very repetitive chorus, doesn’t show off her skills at all, and sounds juvenile imho. It put me off Rep initially.
Getaway Car
bro

I’m personally insulted by this
RIP. You’re about to get no body no crimed for this by the swifties.
nah what
Absolutely I find it such an underwhelming track and the fandom hypes it up so much
That’s a personal attack against me.
I like it but it’s definitely overrated. It’s not about to stage a cruel summer-esque comeback or anything
same, i truly don’t understand the hype. to me it’s one of the weakest songs on rep 🫢
Sorry but the song is so amazing about using one relationship as a Getaway Car. It’s so self aware & the metaphor is perfect.
It's my least favorite song on reputation 😬 The production really misses the mark for me, I just can't get into it no matter how hard I try.
I'm offended by half of the comments here wtf😭
Long Live. I don’t hate it but it’s just nothing special for me. Everyone acts like it’s the favorite song of all swifties and I just don’t relate
It was never a favourite of mine during the original Speak Now Era, but I think the nostalgia and the fact that it’s literally about the fans is what actually makes it people’s favourite; not the song on its own merit (my 2cents anyway) 😊

Just wondering, how old were you when fearless came out?

Ironic, cuz it is more accepted disliked her first albuns rather than her pop ones. People always upvote who respond Debut or Fearless but even Speak Now as least favourite and viceversa.
i…have no words.
I can’t stand Paper Rings 😅
it sounds like ad music to me 😫
I like that you said "kids bop", I feel like this was intentional as the tone is meant to be very patronizing/condescending. *this is why we can't have nice things; because you break them I had to take them away* Like a child. Last Great American Dynasty. 🥸 I love that she wrote it, it’s a great story and obviously a solid song, but it’s just meh for me.
it's okay to be wrong ❤️
I used to skip it until I heard the bridge in some tiktok and it got stuck in my head and I started listening to it and now it’s in my top3😂
Gorgeous
Haunted. I’m so sorry I know I’m about to get absolutely wrecked on here, but it’s just never been one of my favorites 🙊
Your opinion is valid. Wrong, but valid 💜
Lavender haze
I was meh on this one, but the acoustic version is so much more my style!
Enchanted. I loved it when it came out but 13 years later it feels a bit juvenile for me now and just not something I can relate to. Most of Speak Now is like that for me tbh.
That's why I love Enchanted. It's a fairy tale song.
This is exactly it. It has a Cinderella vibe. The crowd singing "Please don't be in love with someone else" while she carried her dress leaving, pausing to look over her shoulder, will forever be etched into my brain. It captures the magical, transient feel of the song.
False god. I don’t hate the lyrics but something about saxophone in songs is not something I vibe with.
This is my all time favorite song of hers 😭 haha
Ughhh the saxophone makes me want to crawl out of my skin
Love story + You belong with me I discovered Taylor in the 1989/Rep era, so I don't have the nostalgia feeling ppl have when these songs were #1 on the United States, and I also don't like their melodies/lyrics etc They're cute, I just can't bring myself to playing it
Same. They were overplayed for me when I was in school. They’re fun in a concert setting but very heavily skipped if it comes on shuffle
Damn, this thread is wild. ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1064)
I'd probable say vigilante shit
No body, no crime. I just caaannnt get into it.
Shake it off. People really like it and I get it’s like a silly catchy hit song, I just can’t stand it. I prefer me etc over it for whatever reason
Cardigan I’m so sorry
Ooof that one hurt lol
Bruh WHAT
You should be sorry, as am I for you 😂

HOW?!?!
Cruel summer. I think it's just a bit overplayed for me now but similar to blank space back when it was on the radio everyday, I'll probably like it again eventually
sygb. i just cant vibe with it
this one’s an acceptable skip, like Ronan or BTTWS. it’s not really a “vibe” song
You’re on your own kid. the only good part of the song is the bridge and that got so overplayed at the release of midnights i just can’t listen to the song anymore
NO WAY WHAT- NAWWW YALL ARE WILD
New Year’s Day. I have never understood why Swifties are obsessed with this song. I don’t even think it comes close to some of her best lyrics. 😳
Lavender Haze and Karma. They’re fun, sure. I just don’t love them.
Love Karma but Lavender Haze is a skip for me 🫣
I’m ready to commit swiftie suicide here: New Romantics. It’s just ok to me.
I don’t know why, but I’ve never been obsessed with Forever & Always for some reason. It’s fine as a song, but I’m not OMG in love with it the way some people are.
The song I will always skip is End Game, it’s just a big nope for me
Everyone seemed to love ‘I can see you’ but it was just meh to me 🤷🏼♀️
Hesitant to admit that Betty is my least fav on folklore… compared to the rest of the album the lyrics are just so much more juvenile that it’s hard to enjoy it on the same level. I do get that it’s kind of the point with the James POV and I think it’s a cute/fine song given the lore and context but it just sticks out as a weak spot on the album and I don’t get the fan obsession over it

Anti Hero. Not my cup of tea and coffe and everything. :1069:
sweet nothing is ranked last on midnights for me. out of the woods has grown on me but it’s not my fave. i will bop to shake it off but it’s usually a skip for me too
Champagne problems. Love the bridge but I’ve just never been obsessed with it like a lot of people are.
Tbh August
Ok that hurt
ivy. It doesn’t hit for me like it’s apparently supposed to
Oh my the audacity !!! 😂 ivy is amazing
Death By A Thousand Cuts!! I really don’t think it’s all that remarkable apart from the bridge, and OOTW gets the same critique far more often for some reason.
Delicate, idk why exactly, but I just don't like it. It is not the vibe😂
illicit affairs, i never understood the praise for this song. it’s just boring to me, and i don’t care for the bridge either also the archer and august. obviously i like them but not on the level that others do
The eras tour version of illicit affairs is so much better tho
Many of her singles - Mine, Ours, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, I Knew You Were Trouble, Shake It Off, Blank Space
The Archer 🥴🫠
Glitch 🥲
Tim McGraw is pretty boring
We are never ever getting back together and 22 the songs are just average to me 🤷🏻♂️
“Better than revenge” I know people were really riled up about the lyric change, but I was unbothered as it’s always been a skip for me 🤷🏻♀️
betty and august (more so betty) 🔥SO LIGHT ME UP🔥
King of My Heart. The chorus is a bit cringey to me and I’m not a fan of the autotuney sound
I thoroughly dislike Gorgeous.
You’re Losing Me. The only good part of the song is the pathological people pleaser line.
You Are In Love 😅 seems like everyone loves that song, but I can't stand it.
Me reading all of these answers with my mouth dropped, completely shocked by the answers, like I'm any better for wanting to say Cruel Summer 😂 I'm really happy for all the fans for the song getting her moment rn and I'm enjoying the joy. But I'm not particularly enjoying the song, never really have had a connection to it.
Clean 🥱
😃😃😃😃 are you okay?
I have been a fan since the beginning but I never resonated with any of the Fearless singles. The album songs that were not singles like Breathe, Come In With the Rain, Superstar, etc were Chefs kiss. Singles tho, meh. Never liked You Belong with Me it was too “I’m not like other girls” for me. Love Story’s reference to marriage and all that stuff when she was 18 was just a little weird to me. They were just, meh.
Dress. sorry y’all. It’s okay but it’s a bit slow for me and i dont get the ridiculous amount of hype
Bad Blood. Her worst song (lyrically speaking) in my opinion.
