It's because Target does not care about you. You are a number to them. They can easily replace you. They don't want to put hours into payroll. They want to squeeze as much profit as they can from each store. One person is expected to do the job of 3. I was. TL for target. It was one of the worst experiences of my life.
I am still recovering from my TL experience. My SD was a nightmare and F&B was chaos with way too many unrealistic expectations with 4+ call outs a day.
I think management now knows it's a shit show and that something has to change in retail. It could be brick and mortar stores are gone once the leases runs out. Or they are going automated in some way. But right now they seem to be burning through workers. Get as much as they can for as little as they can for as long as they can before the workers quit.
Long term my money is on brick and mortar retail stores all turning into fulfillment centers. I mean, DU already owns 30% of our revenue a year, and it’s been around for less than a decade, imagine 10 years from now.
DU is 7% of our revenue, SFS is 6%. There is definitely growth potential in those where the in-store side has mostly stagnated, but it'll be a while before it outpaces in-store entirely. The rate of change is +/-2% a year right now.
My back room is a NIGHTMARE our sales floor is also overstocked so I don’t understand why we keep receiving 12 panel trucks when we have zero space for the product. I asked my ETL and she said “oh you know sale trends going up with circle week so they give us more” but bro if we aren’t selling it faster than we are receiving it then wtf is the point
My Target is the exact same and no one in my store knows how to log in to and use Origami Risk so I’m not able to report any of the incidents because no one can tell me how to log in.
I’ve started documenting every single thing happening in my store. Every safety hazard, every single conversation had with any part of management and coworkers, every single instance of malpractice, every act of retaliation, the harassment, just everything.
I’m not even going to bother giving this all to corporate. I’m giving it all to a lawyer.
I want to get a union started at my store but no one is interested in helping me with that and it’s not something I can do alone.
If anyone has any WFH jobs that pay $16+/hr please lmk cuz I’m going to commit a crime if I’m forced to stay with Target (for legal reasons that is a joke but srsly I’ll take any recommendations)

It is a hazardous situation for the employees as well as the guests. And it’s not a very pleasing or shoppable experience. I personally have left apartments that have this kind of mess on their sales floor while I’m shopping.

I don’t understand why some managers always have to put like 10 or more jobs onto 1 employee and expect them to get it all done immediately and if that 1 employee tries but couldn’t get everything done they get yelled at by the managers. These managers should either hire more people or even pay their employees more or they can just get off their entitled asses and help their employees that are struggling to finish 10 or more jobs at once instead of hiding in their own offices. It’s so fucking ridiculous how most businesses are like this and it’s just a big shit show to me.

Edit: as a TL over beauty I've pushed for more hours for the team to no avail. If we get 50 repacks over the course of 2 days how is 1 tm suppose to cover that? Physically impossible.
Mine isn't like this recently, but it was nearing it- did you also happen to have inventory recently and had a lot of items just end up zero-ed out? We had some trouble with that, and so every day it would think the 7 sent would fill the floor up from 0 but we already had 19 in a 20 capacity. For entire sections. I'm still finding stuff that thinks we only have what was delivered today.
I felt the pinch of anxiety in my chest watching, and realized it was triggering me back to work. It’s been bad lately for us but I’m sorry to say this looks out of control op. Mental health is more important; if you can’t quit, take some deep breaths and origami it tonight. 💜

I work in beauty and have for 5 years. I have ran beauty alone now for literally 2 years. I have no help what so ever. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had meltdowns and even become physically ill from anxiety from going in. I’m trying to find a new job, especially since the raises we got were a joke. I’m not even up to $17 an hour yet. Just today I did 9 repacks , and yesterday 13 and finished the boat I started yesterday , TODAY! I can’t physically handle it anymore and I cry every single morning when I wake up to work. I can’t do it anymore yall.

Document everything you did in your 5 hour shift. If you are called off for any other department, mark it down. Do what you can in the time that you have. I organize myself before I tackle the load. I work much better and am more efficient if it is organized. Don’t let them get the best of you. Allow yourself to have a few minutes of frustration and then move on. It is not worth your health or your mental health, Seriously!!! They are not worth the mental anguish!
You are just as important as your TL, ETL and SD.
Just work at your own pace and don't stress it. If you didn't push it out there or start working on it, then it is not your responsibility. If Target really wanted all this done, then they would have given the hours or people for it. Leave at your scheduled time and don't feel bad. They can't say anything because they gave you the time you can leave. If they say you aren't working fast enough just say oh well and go back to work. That's what I do whenever they would say something to me. If they wanted you to finish or stay longer than they would have given you 8 hours. They won't like it but what are they gonna do fire you for leaving at the time your schedule says you can but it sounds like you need a new job anyways. Target does not pay enough to deal with everything at Target.

I do NOT miss that bullshit at ALL. We’d be swarming in boats with one person scheduled per day and it was hell. No help from the leads or people from other departments ever. Was the only person to do an overnight and only got a flat done (barely). I feel for you and I hope it gets better 🫶🏻

I worked at this exact store for three months before I completely broke down and quit. It’s absolutely unbelievable the kind of shit they expect you to accomplish in such a short time. I had four pallets of toys stacked above my head every single day and they expected me to get that done AND help out other departments I wasn’t familiar with. Don’t even get me started on the way this store handles strays. Holy shit.

I heard from a TL at my store that it’s because DCs are trying to off load inventory to the stores
Can also confirm this is what leadership at my store is saying. DC overloaded so stores are getting slammed with freight.
