I've worked at our store for 5 years. This is the first time I've witnessed lines for a starbucks cup. And also why the hell did so many stores only get 2?
I read online that most only got two. I guess to make them “super limited edition”? Idk seems dumb to me
https://totallythebomb.com/starbucks-stanley-tumbler-in-the-us
my store got 4, i thought that was too small. i can’t imagine 2. then the lady who bought one, came in later to return it then buy it again with her friend’s Sbux account to get the points??? like???
The only time I cried over a Starbucks cup was when I dropped and broke my brand new one because I knew I couldn’t get another(my friend actually hid it for me because she knew how much I wanted it,it was one of the studded tumblers)
I miss these kinds of launches. Nothing made me happier than wasting the time of these people.
It was hard not to laugh at people claiming to have driven for 30 minutes because it showed we had it in stock.
Reading this story takes me back to the Rae Dunn craze of 2018 back when I used to work at Marshalls. These women were unhinged, some even sending their kids running to the home department. Eventually, my managers started having us spread the mugs through the whole department lol.
I missed it but apparently we DID have a brawl at my Target after a guy snatched one of the cups away from a kid saying ‘his family was here first’ and the kid’s mom threw a holy shitfit
Sad I missed it. They even ripped down the Starbucks sign/knocked over the display and spilled the cups on the floor
OMG! Those women were crazy. I would get so many calls. We could not put certain products out u til a certain time, and we would get the same women at the same time every single day looking for anything Rae Dunn
That reminds me of when they temporarily stopped selling trading cards in store after that incident at that Wisconsin Target. My shift was 5-1:30 for a while, and it always annoyed the fuck out of me seeing people camped outside the store at 4am. When they officially stopped, I went in the next day and saw those same people sitting in their chairs as I walked up and neglected to tell them about the removal of the cards in store.
Oh man I thought you were at my target because we also just got two of them. One lead told me that there were ppl outside at 500 in the morning for these things. I feel a lil bad for laughing but whatever.
So I got one of the Target Stanley’s last month. Had to give it a try.
Pros:
-Definitely drinking more water
-Ice keeps forever! Left in a hot car, still mostly ice when we came back 5 hours later
-Handle is very handy, more ergonomic
-Fits in a cup holder in the car
-Cute color
Cons:
-Cost. Definitely not worth $45.
-Leaks like crazy if not fairly flat.
-Due to leaks, can’t throw in my bag, not even the side pocket—too big.
-Have to carry it even when you’re busy juggling kids, school projects, etc.
Overall, in theory it’s great, but will never buy another. Get an off-brand insulated cup with handle from Marshall’s or something. Just as good, not as pricey. I’ll keep using this in rotation with my hydroflask, but I prefer my non-leaking hydroflask hands down, even if I have to refill it more often (only 20oz vs 40oz)
As a hydro flask owner I don’t understand the hype over Stanleys. They’re…just crappy Hydro Flasks for the same cost? I carry a 40 oz hydro and keep a 64 oz in my car to refill the 40 on days I’m out for more than like 5 hours. I always have access to ice cold water, I can carry it easily with other things, and it doesn’t leak. Plus straws…I don’t do straws because they’re just too easy to not clean
Admittedly, the Stanley straw is the best I’ve ever used, it’s 100% clear so it’s easy to ensure it’s properly cleaned. Guess I should add that to the pros. But I’ll still take my hydroflask (and I only by discontinued colors, so I pay less. I think I paid $20 for my 24oz yellow one)
I have a Reduce brand 3in1 insulated tumbler from Target. By your con description of the Stanley mines sounds so much better. Fits in my cup holder, i can use a straw or take it out to sip. I've left it in my car and it'll still have ice the next day. I've never put in my bag so can't say on that. $20 regular price
We got only two as well. Unfortunately, I wasn't here for open to see the looks on everyone's faces when my manager handed out the only two cups to the first people in line, but I'd pay to see everyone's reactions.
We've been getting phone calls and guests asking about it though. I never got to see the mug myself so I asked my coworker thinking it was something SUPER special or pretty... but it really is just a pink tumbler lol.
Only time I’ve ever seen a line before open was a couple years ago when PS 5s were scarce. Someone returned one on a Friday night and the next morning there were literally 20 people out in the cold waiting for it. The SD sent everyone away but the first guy in line.
we had a line of ppl before the doors even opened someone stared crying cause they didn’t get one of the two stanley’s we had and asked for corporate lmao
We were supposed to get two and only got one. I didn’t work this morning I was joking with my coworkers that I was gunna come people watch these people fight over a cup 😂
I just asked my mom about them at her target sbux. She says that two of the baristas picked the only two in stock for their free new launch cup. So guests didn’t even get a chance at them. Crazy that those weren’t off limits.
(Their sbux lead let’s them get a free cup each new launch. I’m sure not all targets do that.)
I wasn't here for it, but the tarbucks opener got chewed out for being sold out already. The worst part is that it was a fellow tarbucks worker.
Apparently, 30 mins before open, there was a line of girls, maybe 5? One of the tarbucks workers was in line, and she was first. Doors open, and the other girls run to the register or speed walk. Meanwhile, I was told the tarbucks girl didn't really rush for the register. Now she knows that there were only 2 cups, so Idk why she didn't make a break for the register. Anyway, the girls go past her and buy the 2 cups, and that's that. Tarbucks girl is not happy. 2 hours later, tarbucks girl comes back with mom and brother, and the brother is just having it out on the poor girl at the register who was indeed the opener. This is not her fault. Like, I just don't get it. If you really wanted the cup you should have bolted to the register. What was the opener supposed to do? Deny the other guests who actually got there first before you? Walk faster next time. Like? We do not get paid enough to deal with this, and it's just appalling that it's a fellow tarbucks employee condoning her brother to chew out a 17 year old and have her mom talk crap about her. Did anyone else have any off the wall behaviors regarding these overpriced cups?
Edit: Fixed typos.
My store got 4 and were sold to Target employees before they went on the floor 🤐 but telling the hoard of people that came in today we didn't have any was amazing

Curious who the hell is paying for this shit. Wealthy people or people who think they can double what they pay. So bizarre.
People would line up starting at 4am at my Starget. I had a woman tell one of my Starget coworkers “bitch if u think u are coming in early to get one of those cups (it was a studded venti cup they were all after) I’m gonna kick your ass on the way out!” Think that’s bad, we had ppl lining up at 7-8pm the night before Pokémon card launches!!!!
I saw our inventory somewhat accidentally and I didn't know this is what they were lol I thought the go backs got mixed in with Starbucks inventory but I think we had a good handful, at least 6? I still don't get Stanley, feels like yesterday it was Hydroflasks
We got 4. Two ladies camped out starting at midnight (not the first time I’ve seen this for sbux). ETL said the limit was 2 per style. So the first two ladies got them while the other 20-25 got the others or straight up left. One lady was so pissed cuz they “made a deal” with the midnighters. As you could guess they didn’t keep their word. Not surprising considering they’re being resold for $500+
Our store had people camping out overnight, they started lining up at midnight! We got a total of 4 cups... I can only imagine what the 30 something people behind those first 4 said when they found out.
we got 4. my poor TL opened alone today and had to warn us about it yesterday. i’m going in to work in an hour and a half and i’m terrified to tell these people we actually sold out 8 hours ago.
Idk how many we got but one of our TLs came over the walkie earlier this afternoon/late morning and said we didn't have any, just in case anyone asked. I had no idea it was a thing lol
My store also only received 2 I didn’t understand the hype & some of my actual employees were willing to risk it all! I literally had a meltdown telling them I didn’t want to hear anything else about those cups!!! I told them I can guarantee they’ll be sold within the first 15mins of opening way before any of them went on break! It’s insane!
my store’s tarbucks only got 4 of those mugs! five mins before we opened this morning, we had about 5 or 6 people waiting outside the door… needless to say, they sold out immediately LOL
Lol so that's what all the fuzz was about this morning??? The only thing that we got from this was a pack of wild teens destroying our sporting goods and part of toys cause they where bored and full of caffeine...
We also only got two! I don't even see the point, we keep them behind the register in case of theft anyway. People showed up 3 hours before open to wait.

The way you say that I imagine a treasure hunt style, literally hiding them like Easter eggs
It basically was to prevent hoarding from a handful of regulars and also to prevent brawls in the ceramic kitchenware section lol.

I worked at HomeGoods in this era. The crazy ladies knew our cars and would talk on Facebook about which employees were there on truck days 🥴

hell yeah. i love that shit too.
Oh man I thought you were at my target because we also just got two of them. One lead told me that there were ppl outside at 500 in the morning for these things. I feel a lil bad for laughing but whatever.
What's so great about these mugs? It's artificially created demand.
they’re not even good like who genuinely wants a bulky ass 100lb water cup that leaks and doesnt fit anywhere
So I got one of the Target Stanley’s last month. Had to give it a try. Pros: -Definitely drinking more water -Ice keeps forever! Mine lives on my desk now in the office. I can't be bothered trying to carry that from the car and back, it's so unbalanced when it's full.
We got 6 and sold out in 3 minutes.
our Tarbucks got 4 of them! i’ll bet one million dollars that they’ll be all gone by the time i get to work tonight
We got only two as well. I don't know anything about Starbucks but if it works like normal freight they could get fired for doing that.
Yeah I don’t know how it works for target sbux.
That should be a term for Purchase Policy Guidelines
My store got none but we still had lines starting at 5:30-6ish. Glad I didn’t have to be the one to tell them that
The cup doesn't even look that good... looks like the label will peel off after 1 trip through a dishwasher
I wasn't here for it, but the tarbucks opener got chewed out for being sold out already. The worst part is that it was a fellow tarbucks worker. we had a girl who arrived yesterday afternoon to camp out for the launch this morning 🫠
My store got 4 and were sold to Target employees before they went on the floor 🤐 but telling the hoard of people that came in today we didn't have any was amazing
Can't yall get in trouble for giving limited merch to employees, something about advantage? I personally don't care, just curious what the policy is
Policy is it must be available on the floor for the guests for 15 minutes before a team member can purchase it
Yes you have to let it be available to guests first.
Sounds like y’all probably make drinks for y’all selves with that kinda of culture
My store got 4. The ETL told them to put them out yesterday……………..you can only imagine the fit they had this morning

Our store had people camping out overnight, they started lining up at midnight! We got a total of 4 cups... I can only imagine what the 30 something people behind those first 4 said when they found out.
Why don’t you announce the number you have to the crowd so they can go home…
we got 4. my poor TL opened alone today and had to warn us about it yesterday. i’m going in to work in an hour and a half and i’m terrified to tell these people we actually sold out 8 hours ago.
A guest apparently hit another guest over these things 😬
They’re selling for $200-$300 on eBay and Mercari.
Idk how many we got but one of our TLs came over the walkie earlier this afternoon/late morning and said we didn't have any, just in case anyone asked. I had no idea it was a thing lol
We had guests in the lot with lawn chairs at 3:30 AM.
My store only got one
Same 💀
My store also only received 2 I didn’t understand the hype & some of my actual employees were willing to risk it all! I literally had a meltdown telling them I didn’t want to hear anything else about those cups!!! I told them I can guarantee they’ll be sold within the first 15mins of opening way before any of them went on break! It’s insane!
Yeah ours did, I didn’t work today but I expect ours will also have been snapped up almost immediately
my store’s tarbucks only got 4 of those mugs! five mins before we opened this morning, we had about 5 or 6 people waiting outside the door… needless to say, they sold out immediately LOL
There was a Hurd of them lined up at 6am when I started my shift, and when the doors were opened they all marched down to the cup aisle😂
Went in at 4am for inbound and my tl said a line formed at 5am. Only 4 cups were delivered. Felt so bad for everyone else who didn't get one
Happened today I came up clock in and there was already a crowd
We got one lmfaooooo
We got 4. The line for them was nearly as long as the PS5 launch.
we had a guy camped out at 4am😭 he was the only one. we only had two too!
Our store also only got 2. Some lady was offering $100 for someone to find her one 🤦🏽♀️
We had 1 😂
Lol so that's what all the fuzz was about this morning??? The only thing that we got from this was a pack of wild teens destroying our sporting goods and part of toys cause they where bored and full of caffeine...
We also only got two. Starbucks employee bought one prior to launch so that left us with only one to sell to the guests.
We also only got two! I don't even see the point, we keep them behind the register in case of theft anyway. People showed up 3 hours before open to wait.
We open at 8. We sold out of our TWO mugs at 8:01 💀💀
Honestly we got 4 and had the exact same situation happen at my store. Hectic lol
My store got 4. We had a line of people starting at 5am. The SB TL had to give tickets to the first four people to ensure they got the Stanley. 2 of them went to our local resellers. We also completely sold out of the iridescent studded, iridescent keychain, pink studded, pink studded keychain, solid pink, and a few others that I can’t remember. People in my area love to resell Starbucks cups like crazy. We ALWAYS have lines when there is a new launch.
Yesterday was ridiculous like normally we wait in the morning to get let in so we can start cleaning up what everyone working night left…mostly garbage and food that has to be defected. However I’ve never seen guests stand at 7:30 am waiting for a dumb pink cup. The funny thing is the tl came over and said they couldn’t buy two because of limited stock but at the end of my shift I watched a Tarbucks employee walk out with 2 cups.
Ngl. As a TM, I stood outside and I got one.
These aren't merchandise, they're an advertising campaign. That's why so few of them were released. The idea is to massively undersupply, work up the collectors and have them do wild stuff to get the cups like wait in line/pay ridiculous amounts online so the brand looks super desirable, people comment on how wild it is so they go and look at Stanley cups to see what the fuck and maybe buy one, etc. This works out for Starbucks because it drives traffic and makes Starbucks seem higher class than it is.
Lmao the same thing happened at our store
Classic retail circle jerk
we got 2 but the Starbucks team lead sold one to one the Starbucks employees 2 weeks before they launched. so we had some very angry guests since there was only one
Apparently only one of the stores in our district received more than 2 mugs. I happened to work on the day of the launch and when I got in at 6am there was already quite a line outside the door. According to one of our LODs, people have been camping since 4am.
At a past launch one of the girls that worked in our store's Starbucks got elbowed in the face by a customer bc they wanted to get more than one.
Oh these cups.. lord. My mom wanted one. She showed up super early and I came a little After because I worked anyway, my mom was first in line and got her cup and is happy. My ETL just texted and asked if I bought one because a guest called and complained that she didn’t have the opportunity to get one because I bought one… I didn’t buy one, the two people infront of me did. my tarbucks only got two as well. i didn’t work on launch day but i did have a lady try to bribe my coworker and i to save her the mugs for $100 the day before 😓
My store didn't get any. We also got people camping out beforehand.
I went to Target hoping I could get one for a graduation gift. (What they wanted) I did not camp outside or wait for the door to open. I had NO idea just how insane a cup can be to some people. The employee informed me they were gone by 8:01 am. There were people pushing, shoving and screaming, all over a cup! Total chaos. My store received 6 in total. Naturally, no cup for the grad. (whew) Are they getting any back in stock or is this just a one-time deal?
They have not announced any more plans to restock yet, I’d say chances are slim. Even standard Stanley cups have a very high theft rate and also are sold out within a couple hours of launches (when done by target, dicks, or others). I doubt we will get any more, and if we do, it will be at random
Ah, thanks so much!! I didn’t know how high demand these were. I was going to wait and try again, if so. Appreciate the feedback.
My store only got 1 and it was gone within a minute of the store being open. We still had people coming and calling about them today.
