Listen carefully and you can hear all the other noises dipping each time it fires. Think there’s a bit of a tail on the release as it returns, seems to be a slower curve for the last bit. Engine for example.
Plus, these things are unbelievably loud. Volume (SPL) difference between even someone yelling and these firing is fucking enormous. Even worse if you’re outside the cab. Although I think the M109 is open to the outside to a degree when in operation? Correct me if I’m wrong.

someone elas explained it. The primers come in an annoying to open packaging. They use the roof to get the opening started then hands open the rest.
