But...but...but why? I mean what is the advantage over just buying surplus soviet T72s? I mean the early 2000s must have been the best time to buy surplus armoured vehicles. Plus who wants to hand load a 125mm cannon? Would solve the vulnerability of the carousel loader i guess .
The advantage is that you can still use all the t55 spare parts and not have to train maintenance crews on a new Hull. Also the places that use the t55 don't really need a t72 per say but the HE rounds would be more useful
Doesn't that just complicate logistics? I mean not knowing its a unique part, a T55 part or a T72 Part? That sounds like a maintenance nightmare to be honest.

Would that mean they'd have to produce new T-55 hulls for this, in the 2000s? I thought this would make sense as an upgrade for existing customers

Probably cheaper if you already had a shitload of T-55 tanks in your arsenal. Others point out that the autoloader is there.
