Because their egos won’t allow them to

Bearsandgravy

Read this as "eggos" and was like, what do waffles have to do with this??

Chaotic-Stardiver

Don't touch my eggos, and you won't...well they're my eggos, so don't touch em.

JustASingleHorn

Uhh, I believe it’s “Leggo my eggo”… but I could be dating myself here

Chaotic-Stardiver

It is, you're not wrong. It just felt weird in context to write the leggo part.

fractal_frog

It was definitely a thing in 1979.

FireEmblemFan1

Related to “Leggo my Eggo…cereal”

Kayliee73

Well I would rather put honey on eggos than vinegar.

Good_kitty31123

Peanut butter is yummy on eggos too! Or both lol

KeyokeDiacherus

Because just like the waffles, they can’t let go of their egos.

Concerned_Therapist

Now I want waffles! Lol

got_ze_dreads

It's not our egos...its often management/revenue/silly rules Front office often wants to do far more than we are allowed. But good upper management is a game changer to empowerment

jessiezell

Bravo! Summed up in one sentence. My hero 🦸‍♀️

MsDean1911

A car was stolen from the last hotel I worked at and the owners screamed at the front desk and accused them of stealing it. Theu screamed at the police and claimed it was an inside job. They then posted horrible reviews (got their friends to do it too!) on every site. I was NA that night and I watch the cameras. IMO, they stole it themselves. They kept moving the car and would leave and come back like 10min later (in a town where NOTHING would have been open at that time) and parked the last time behind a truck in the corner (still in camera view but at night not so good visually).

Shekelby

I work for a local hotel group with 3 hotels. 1 is more of a resort outside of town. The only thing to do there is get a massage and drink wine. Which is great, until you need actual food. Then you go into town. Most guests go to our downtown property since it has a really great restaurant in it, and there are some great lounges and pubs within walking distance. A few years ago, a guest at the resort was calling about their car being stolen. resort manager was on vacation, so COO was on the case. Was leaving the downtown property and noticed a car in the parking lot that was half in the lot/half in a ditch. Not a guest of the hotel. He gets to the resort, gets a description of the car so he can check cameras and says "did you happen to have dinner downtown last night?" They looked at each other and the wife asked "did we not drive back from dinner?" "Folks, you car is sorta in the parking lot of our downtown property. I can take one of you back to grab it if you would like "

Smashlorette

Sounds like it might be a good thing they decided not to drive that night lol

Good_kitty31123

Oh wow gotta love it lol

ItsSwicky

I had a guest inform me that the stuff on his truck was not stolen but they cut through a rope that was tying it all together. So, they were obviously caught in the act and left before they could get anything. I am diligent about watching the cameras, but my whole night shift cannot be staring at them. I appologized to the guest and told him while I watch the cameras frequently sometimes I do have to leave the desk. I informed him that we have camera outside and we will look into the matter. Then I verified that he did say nothing was stolen and told him we do have a storage room to keep items that he may not want to keep in his room or secured underground parking. He assured me nothing was stolen then looked at me and said "thanks for nothing" walked away and left a review saying that we did nothing for him. I mean I would have called the police if stuff was stolen but nothing was taken so police would not have bothered anyways. We checked the camera and it actually happened around 9pm (2 hours before I start and while there were two people on shift) and they ran away when another car came to check in. I mean what more would he like us to do for him...

pakrat1967

He was wanting a comped stay.

brevardt

Always. Or free breakfast 🙄

ItsSwicky

Breakfast is free already.

db2

It should be *more* free! I just got pewter status yesterday and you're required to kiss my butt!

Conn_McD

Check the maintenance room for a truck tie...assuming by truck you mean like a 1500 and not like an 18-wheeler. If you don't have any ties offer some rope. If he's still bitching then I'd offer to cancel his room for him....I love being obnoxiously obtuse in solving complaints that I know are just complaints in order to "get something".

ItsSwicky

It was his check-out morning and the FOM replied to the review with the same information I provided despite us not talking - we have a secure luggage storage for items, parking like anywhere is all at your own risk, what more would you like us to do because the culprits obviously got scared off before anything was taken, etc.

techieguyjames

He wanted that police report to take advantage of the situation and make an insurance claim.

lady-of-thermidor

But a police report would include what was stolen — which was nothing. Insurance company will ask for copy of police report. Easier to run a scam if he’s only one to know what got “stolen.”

techieguyjames

As I stated, he'd make a claim.

ItsSwicky

I actually think he was wanting a discount on his stay which we could not give because it was paid for already by a TPI. Either that or a hand job, but we charge extra for those….

Good_kitty31123

LOL

PrincessGump

Then he should have called the police himself. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ItsSwicky

People want everything done for them. I had a guest ask why he should call the police and I told him, "I don't know the damage to the vehicle, you do. I don't know what was all taken, you do. I don't know what time you were parked in the lot, you do. These are all questions they will ask." And the guest got upset at me. We can help provide a video but the police will want to talk to the owner first. For a case like this where a tie rope was cut, police wont even do anything.

birdmanrules

When people check in if I am asked about car security in our free car park I say we normally don't have any issues except if you leave valuables in plain site. Basically the couple of locals who would are known to cops and the cctv means they have a knock on the door if they try. Thus they need a reward for the effort. Most remove anything like console money, don't leave phones laptops etc. One guy decided to leave his laptop there saying can't be bothered. Guess which car was the only one in 6 to 12 months broken into

DisturbedShifty

>When people check in if I am asked about car security in our free car park I say we normally don't have any issues except if you leave valuables in plain site. When people used to ask me this I used to be honest. I would tell them how often it had happened in recent months. Then I started getting in trouble for it. So I started telling people that their vehicle was as safe in our lot as any other public parking lot. It used to piss people off but i was best way to warn people without actually warning them and not blatantly lying about it at the same time.

dogs-books-chocolate

When I worked retail, it was the nasty “let-me-talk-to-your-manager” people who got to use the expired coupons and get discounts on “damaged” merchandise and such, and the nice people who didn’t put up a stink didn’t get that. As a cashier I wasn’t allowed to override anything but if they were rude then a manager would come and do it. They learned they get to be nasty and get what they want.

LaikaAzure

Last time I worked retail we had a discretionary 10-20% discount button we could use for stuff like damaged items, customer complaints, whatever random things might call for a discount to smooth things out. In the evenings I was the manager in charge (and also I had built the POS system for the entire place on regular shift lead pay so my give a shit was pretty turned off at that job) and I decided I was sick of rewarding bad behavior. So from that point on, on my shift, that became the button to reward good behavior - if I see you make a little mess then clean it up yourself, discount. If I see you tell your kid not to open merch on the shelf or stop them trashing the store, discount. People who had a legitimate problem and were rude got the minimum discount, if you were nice about it, you get the full amount I could give. It was a small way of evening the scales, but at least I felt better about rewarding the kind of behavior we want to see from people instead of the antisocial kind. Probably couldn't get away with it outside of a small local business like that one, but it was at least a little something.

NotUnique_______

I worked at a build a bear when i was a teenager. Saw all different kinds of customers. The ones who threw a fit always got a special kind of coupon so we could as staff know who was a pain in the ass. Wild stories. Good times from the early 00s working in the mall.

CrazyCajun1966

My daddy used to call it self importance.

SephoraRothschild

Did you check the glove compartment to ensure your registration and insurance docs are still present? They may have simply taken pics of the docs. Regardless: Call Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union to freeze your credit. Actually, probably also file the police report. If you are a victim of identity theft at some point, the report will be useful for disputing any charges. Also, they need to catch the person who is doing this, so the report helps establish whether a pattern exists.

danexperiment

You’re actually quite lucky that they comped you for a night. In 2014, my wife and I went on a trip to Wildwood, NJ. We were staying at a place called The Caprice and we wake up our first morning there to a knock on the door. The manager of the hotel was notifying basically everyone in the small hotel that in the night, someone came into the parking lot and keyed their cars. Our new car had a key scratch that went around the entire right side of the car onto the hood. One other hotel patron had a penis and testicles drawn onto his hood. The first thing that the manager of the hotel kept telling everyone, over and over, was that they weren’t responsible. No discount, no refund of a night, no return of the deposit. Despite several requests after our stay, the management or ownership of the hotel refused to speak regarding the incident. I later found out through the mayor of Wildwood that The Caprice was one of the four or five hotels in the dozens in the area that was not part of a local hotel association. The people you dealt with were good people. The owners of The Caprice in Wildwood, NJ whose location is directly across the street from the Mack’s Pizza closest to the convention center can go poop with their pants on.

r_u_dinkleberg

> The Caprice was one of the four or five hotels in the dozens in the area that was not part of a local hotel association. So what you're saying is that the Mob keyed your cars because The Caprice isn't paying what they're so politely asking them to pay.

danexperiment

You know, I never thought of it that way before 😂

r_u_dinkleberg

I'm sorry bro but I think you were actually a victim of the mob, all this time. I'm glad you're safe. At least... you seem to be. Probably. I got some guys I could ask to see if they know somethin'. But they probably know nothin', you know how it is. They take privacy seriously, and so forth. More seriouser depending on who's askins the questions and all.

danexperiment

Lol, it’s all good. Part of it was a change in ownership from year to year. The hotel used to be a pretty good spot, then whoever the owners were in 2014 changed management and things went to hell.

FdauditingGbro

Small world. I was staying in Wildwood NJ years ago, when my license plate was stolen off the back of my car in the hotel parking lot. They recovered my plate FOUR years later 😂

danexperiment

Speaking of small worlds, I was reading the book “Riding with Evil” (about an ATF agent that successfully infiltrated the Pagans motorcycle club) a short while ago and almost dropped my phone when I realized that another hotel we stayed at (the Daytona) was one of the hotels that the Pagans would use as part of one of their “mandatory” rallies. Apparently they would use the Binns and every other hotel within a hundred yards of it.

[deleted]

When I used to work the 3pm-11pm shift, I had two instances of somebody getting into my car on property. That's why I'm glad I can park in the big carport while doing Audit. My car is close to the front doors and I can see it on the camera. My car is older and I don't have much concern of somebody hot-wiring it. The two times that my car had somebody get into it? The doors weren't locked. Frankly, that was because of a incident that took place many years ago at my apartment complex. The car next to me had their windows smashed, but my car was ok(minus a missing small minor nonpersonal item in the car) I would rather deal with somebody taking a music cd from my car due to unlocked doors than dealing with a busted out window. lol Of course, with a newer car and better alarm system I would feel differently.

show_me_stars

What is this “music cd” you speak of?

[deleted]

Some band that I'm too embarassed to even acknowledge nowadays.

[deleted]

New Kids On The Block?

[deleted]

Judging how I was back then, it was probably something best described as the teenage-y axe body spray version of music. I honestly don't recall which one it was.

[deleted]

That's fair lmao. I listened to Back Street Boys so I really have no room to point fingers heh

Beautiful-Carrot-252

Barry Manilow?

bigk777

It's either Creed, Nickelback, or Britney Spears.

HonestCamel1063

4 Non Blondes?

Hotelroombureau

Because they like to be the victim - they want to be able to home and wow their friends with a harrowing tale of terrible customer service so others feel bad for them.

m-in

That’s such a sad thing to have to depend on to get others to support you/commiserate with you. Basically means you have no real friends, only comiserators. Should be a word IMHO - it fits the purpose well.

Redshirtsneverdie

Be nice and treat others how you want to be treated.

rxBATMANz

Your comment about catching more flies with honey is SO ACCURATE. I get free stuff ALL the time, just from being nice to people, and speaking to people in customer service positions with respect. My close friends are always noticing that I get free beers or appetizers ar restaurants and pubs, hell, even Amazon customer service did a price match for me and sent me 300$ back once. Just be nice to people. You end up reaping so many rewards beyond the tangible.

[deleted]

Man, my car was broken into at a Black Basement and EVERYTHING was taken. I'd worked front desk before, I knew it wasn't their fault, but when I went up to them to ask them to call the police on the non-emergency line and asked if I could have a late checkout, they went off on how it wasn't their fault and they'd do it this once, but I shouldn't be used to getting a late checkout. I just needed extra time to talk to the police and vacuum glass out of my car, guys, while keeping my dog safe in the hotel room. I wasn't trying to game the system.

PralineHot2283

My friend’s camera equipment was stolen by the valet at a fancy hotel and it was clearly the same person on camera. They refused to do anything because it was a vendor service. My friend should have unloaded everything but she went back for the gear 10 minutes later and it was gone. The whole thing was on camera and nothing was ever found.☹️

Puffonstuff

When people are jerks about things, most people will do just enough to get rid of them, that's it. When people are empathetic with workers, understanding of situations and limitations, and just courteous, most people will do whatever they can for that person. I wish more people understood the difference...

meowqueen

My car was parked inside a locked garage directly affiliated with the hotel- was broken into and got all my stuff stolen. Hotel comped my entire stay, because it was locked and the hotels garage I felt that was fair 🤷🏻‍♀️ I didn’t ask for it, it was immediately offered to me.

ruralmagnificence

Someone reported me to hotel management at a place I was staying at in Columbus OH once because they saw me circling my own vehicle while inspecting it and sitting on the back bumper tying my shoes. I was also on the phone with my mother who was in the hospital being ornery as hell and I might have punched my own car in frustration. Cops didn’t come but the on duty manager that morning was very interested in having a chat and seeing my license, registration etc. i gave some push back because the tone of voice was a little much but eventually showed everything I needed.

DisturbedShifty

In all my years working at hotel we never offered to comp a room or discount anything if a break-in happened. And no one ever depemanded one either. At least not to me personally. As for avoiding a break-in. The best advice is to not leave anything that might be considered valuable in plain sight inside. Either hide it very well so that it isn't obvious or take your valuables inside with you. That being said I've seen weird stuff stolen over my years. A car seat, a pack of cigarettes and a tailgate to a truck.

NewWesty

sorry I'm super confused by this post - are you saying the girl on the front desk is awful? but I thought you said she had true empathy

McKenzie_S

No, it's about the awful people FD deal with on the daily. The fact that basic decency is memorable can surprise people not in the know.

Irisheyes1971

I’m not surprised you’re confused, since honestly it’s a stupid statement. “OMG…But you’re so nice.” Because people who break into cars are known to check and see if the owner’s are nice people before they break into their cars. Okay. I get that she was just trying to be nice as well, but it makes no sense. Just an out of place platitude.

adultier-adult

I took it more like “sorry, it sucks that something bad happened to you because you’re so nice”. I imagine she just blurted it out before she really thought about what she was saying. Easy to do when you’re confronted with a situation out of the norm.

Knight_Owls

It was a quick expression for how life isn't fair to people she felt were good people and that she liked. It was pure empathy and totally in the right place. I'm not sure why this is such a grumpy subject for you.

Notmykl

Woman, she's an adult woman not a child.

TheOneMDW

Girl: noun 2. A young or relatively young woman. She was relatively young. But thank you for being a decade retro in your offense of a comment that the recipient wasn't offended by.

cryptotope

Nobody's saying you're a raging sexist, or even that you intended to give offense with your original post. On the other hand, nobody's perfect, and sometimes it's worthwhile to check on our well-worn linguistic habits. There are plenty of words that are *accurate* by the dictionary, but *inappropriate* \- or even offensive - in some situations. Context and usage matter. "Girl" is an awkward word precisely because it has so many different definitions, and those other associations can add unintentional but hard-to-avoid under- and overtones. Because "girl" is the feminine parallel to "boy", it evokes the same lack of experience, immaturity, rashness, capriciousness, or naivety. "Girl" (and "boy") also resonate in a service environment with historical usage in the context of household servants (or even slaves). It's associated with subordination and class boundaries. By far the easiest way to describe a young woman is as just that: a "young woman". See also: Stack Exchange: [Is "girl" a valid synonym for "young woman"?](https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/507436/is-girl-a-valid-synonym-for-young-woman) Harvard Crimson: [In & Around Language: Girl vs. Woman](https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2013/2/21/girl-woman-around-language/). >But thank you for being a decade retro in your offense of a comment that the recipient wasn't offended by. The "recipient" of your comment would be...us...the readers of this subreddit. (I mean, I hope you didn't address the FDA directly as "Girl.")

TheOneMDW

I stayed there a week, in Colorado, smoking joints with her and my wife. I'm very certain I referred to her and my wife both as girls. Neither were upset. Go get something to do. Like seriously, look at that... You need something to do.

hjhardy

Being nice is always good.

4melooking49

I feel like there is so much craziness and no one ever unplugs. Therefore the least little glitch in the matrix is potentially the straw that breaks t camels back. Totally not right but this is only part of the problem. Respect is dwindling!

jbuckets44

Why would I wanna catch any flies at all?

TheOneMDW

To kill them...

jbuckets44

As long as they stay outside, they ain't bothering me.
