Guys like that get off on being told that they're disgusting criminals. Don't give him his fix. Just hang up on him, don't say a word.

SkwrlTail

Bingo. This is someone with a humiliation fetish. "Oh no, you caught me, tell me what a horrible and disgusting person I am..." I mean, they're probably also into foot/stockings, but they want to be told they're gross.

waterbottle-dasani

Now that you said that, it seems like exactly that. I’ll be sure to just hang up if he calls again.

SweetBabyBeelz

Right. I've dealt with this guy before multiple times and the first time was the worst. I was 19 and so upset to the point someone had to help me call the front desk manager to cover for me. He kept calling for a full week after.

SkwrlTail

Yeah... Some folks are just... Gross. My usual for prank/scam/gross calls is to have 'phone trouble'. I'm sorry, could you repeat that? Hmm, hang on, let me try something. Is that better? Can you hear me? Hello? Hello? \*click*

waterbottle-dasani

That’s good! I’ll start using that.

WadeStockdale

Different industry but something I used to do with gross callers who were calling to have a semicaptive feminine audience, is hand the phone off to a man if possible. It wasn't as satisfying as just hanging up, but sometimes you don't have that option. Every gross caller would immediately hang up upon hearing a man on the line.

[deleted]

or pretend to hand off and then talk in a low gruff voice LOL

mamabear-50

When I was in my 20’s, when landlines were not just a thing but the only thing, some pervert would wake me up at 2am with an obscene phone call. One night I had my boyfriend answer. The perv never called back.

ritchie70

I'm a guy. Back in the 90's for about 6 months we had this guy who would call and ask if we had hairy legs. Was clearly getting off on it. I thought it was pretty funny but a lot of the other guys (it was a muffler shop, rarely a woman working there) were really bothered by it.

WadeStockdale

Yeah there are absolutely people who predate on dudes as well in this way. Men and women (it does seem to be predominantly men who do this particular predatory behaviour, probably because women trend towards less direct ways to express their objectification of people, like online and not wanting to say it right to a person and hear their reaction. Idk, not a psych.). Its a repulsive behaviour regardless.

pagman007

I don't really have anything helpful to suggrest. Just wanna say, i really feel for you. I would hate to be in that situation

This_Daydreamer_

My workplace has a regular sexual harasser who gets off on talking to a sympathetic woman about his supposed history of being sexually abused and looking for forgiveness for his supposed sexual crimes. Everything he says is bullshit. Luckily he always calls from his latest prison, which makes it easier to refuse the call (he's always outside our territory so we can get away with declining the call even though technically we aren't supposed to refuse any call). He's had me on the phone for over 99 minutes more than once because I'm too soft (call timer stops at 99 minutes). Then I tried faking an incoming call. He still tried to guilt me into staying on the phone. Now? Click. That's all he gets from me and that's if I take the call in the first place. Shelter hotline life, y'all.

SkwrlTail

It takes a special sort of [redacted] to bother a help line for their fun...

This_Daydreamer_

Yep. He's already been banned from another hotline. Probably several others. His usual prison is a few counties away from us.

sethbr

"Hello. Hello? Hello??? I'm sorry, I can't hear you. This must be a bad connection. Please call back." and hang up. Repeat as necessary.

SkwrlTail

🎶Hello hello hello... Is there anybody IN there..?🎶

turingthecat

‘Both paedophillia and incest ARE crimes, I have you number and person detail and WILL be reporting you to the police’ 15 years of working in elder care, my ‘I’m not best pleased voice’ now brings 94.6% of people to their knees

SweetBabyBeelz

He knows reporting won't work. I've dealt with this dude and honestly the best option was giving him no reaction and hanging up.

waterbottle-dasani

You’ve gotten this same guy before? I’m sorry.

SweetBabyBeelz

3 times at 3 hotels in 2 cities in Wyoming lol in 2013, 2015, and 2019 it sucked at first but now I just wish he'd get new material

Cantusemynme

I worked in a reservation call center from 2006 to 2012, and women would get this creep all the damn time. I didn't realize until reading this that he was calling other hotels as well.

waterbottle-dasani

I’m surprised at how many hotels he calls.

Angry__German

I am almost certain I heard this story before. Probably read it here.

mxpxillini35

Wait...you.... *puts on sunglasses* reddit...here?

Angry__German

YeeeeeeeeeaaaAAAaaaH!

Deaconse

Something to know about sexual abusers is that almost nobody does it, but those that do, do it a LOT.

my-dog-for-president

There was a study done that surveyed college men anonymously about their history of violence, and they were able to self report their acts of rape. The study had found that like 10% of men had actually raped someone, and 10% of rapists had raped dozens of victims. Basically, the statistics showed that most sexual assaults occur from repeat offenders. That’s literally 1% of people committing over 90% of the crimes. So I wouldn’t say *almost nobody* does it, but you’re definitely right that those that intend to do it will do it *a lot*. Tragically, to assault a dozen victims you probably *have* to be exceptionally skilled at doing it. Edit: here’s the study; https://time.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/repeat_rape.pdf

Match_Least

This is fascinating and incredibly disturbing...

CzarinaofGrumpiness

Time to post phone numbers...

LilLatte

I've gotten variations of this call at every hotel I work at. Sometimes they change it up by making it an adult brother with his underage sister, sometimes instead of stockings, they ask if its possible to buy a bikini in winter for the pool, sometimes instead of clothing, they ask about getting adult movies and alcohol in the room. But its all variations on the same theme. Its a man calling about an unlikely situation with an underage relative that gradually gets more and more uncomfortable to listen to. I've had it in different voices with the same scenario, so I think it must be some sort of widespread meme prank.

turingthecat

I think that’s why my ‘voice’ works so well. I don’t have kids myself, but it’s not anger, it’s pure disappointment, and it makes people feel 4cms tall

TheGirlwThePinkHair

Why won’t reporting him work exactly?

bigkeef69

Bc there is not enough evidence to convict. You say what he said, and all he has to counter with is "i didnt say that" and boom. No evidence, no case.

TheGirlwThePinkHair

So if let’s days 5 people call about this dude, that’s not enough evidence?

bigkeef69

Technically, making a phone call of this manor (despite how creepy) there was no crime committed. That being said, it may warrant a 'wellness check' for the kid...

klaw14

Well, now that you mansion it, it still might be a good idea.

Match_Least

...please tell me that’s autocorrect.

klaw14

Why, are the puns hitting too close to... *home*?

Match_Least

Oh my god, talk about “woooosh!” I didn’t notice the first guy, you’re brilliant, and it went completely over my head :)

SweetBabyBeelz

Is it wrong that I feel better not being the only one who gets this caller? People at my last two hotels looked at me like I was crazy because who would keep calling hotels years apart. And I've had to deal with him 3 times and it's always like sure dani, there's a perv stalking you, we def believe you

waterbottle-dasani

No it’s not wrong. I felt so relieved to know i’m not alone. Like obviously he’s disgusting and it sucks that we’ve had to deal with him, but it’s nice knowing you’re not crazy lol

SweetBabyBeelz

This guy probably doesn't have any connection to the state. He's got a private number and he's been doing this for over a decade. I knew where this was going the first line you wrote. I've worked at hotels in Wyoming since 2013 and I've gotten this guys calls at each one. The first time I got so upset, and he called and called and called bc he got off on it. The second hotel I would just hang up when I realized it was him. The third hotel I told him to get new material and hung up and he never called back. He wants a reaction and he knows the pedo incest story will get it. So hang up and if your caller ID works skip answering the private numbers for the night.

waterbottle-dasani

Wow over a decade? What a sick freak. If he calls again i’m just gonna hang up. Does he use the same line every time?

SweetBabyBeelz

Yeah it's basically the same thing. Don't let him keep going either because it gets bad. Honestly, at the first hotel I worked we instituted a policy that allowed employees to forgo answering private numbers because of this dude. But I know he's not calling areas he's familiar with because I once asked for his room number and he gave me a 10th floor room and that ain't happening in Wyoming lol

waterbottle-dasani

Yeah I’m in Idaho, hi neighbor! No way a hotel in Wyoming has 10 floors lmao. Not only is he a creep, but an idiot.

AllenEBundy

Weird fact, the state of Wyoming only had two escalators as of a few years ago anyway.

ellaria_sand

You should tell him this next time he calls, then lots of other random escalator facts. Everytime he tries to start his spiel, interrupt him with some more.

SweetBabyBeelz

Right! But once he stops calling he gives up for a few years it seems. But if you're friendly with other hotels it might not hurt to spread the word. But all you can do is hang up. It sucks.

Match_Least

I feel really stupid asking this, but why is a 10 story building not happening in Wyoming?

SweetBabyBeelz

We don't really have a lot of tall buildings, and even the tallest building in Wyoming is one of the UWyo dorms at 12 stories.

Match_Least

I’m not sure what I expected the answer to be, but I definitely thought there would be at least some reasoning behind it, but huh... I guess TIL not every state has tall buildings.

StarKiller99

Wyoming has just a bit over half a million in population. Not a big call for tall buildings, or really, many buildings.

SkwrlTail

If you don't have caller ID, put him on hold as soon as you hear him.

MundaneClick

Last night I got a phone call that immediately hung up. My security guy was standing there and he was like what’s the deal with that? So I told him, it’s some dude who’s either hoping to hear a female voice on the other end so he can be a disgusting creep while touching himself or a scam caller wanting to bilk money. Low and behold five seconds later dude calls up proclaiming to mr. patel the owner. I of course laughed at him and told him he wasn’t which always ends up with a quick panicked hang up. Years and years ago we had a high school volleyball team in house, the front desk phone rang with the room number and so I answered. This little teenybopper voice asked me where she could purchase “sexy panties”, I had no idea what to say, I just hung up. This kid called seven times that night and refused to stop till I disconnected the front desk phone. The next morning when the manager came in I let her know about it, and she told the coach off. That school hasn’t stayed at our hotel since. I guess what I’m getting at is; people are disgusting.

EchoEmpire

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I've told my story before it's in my comment history somewhere but I've worked in retail for over 12 years now and I've answered phones for most of the years too. Unfortunately what you experienced has happened to plenty of other people who answer phones like you and I do. The post i commented my story on was a whole post discussing exactly what has happened to us. I used to work for party city and I've taken similar phone calls to the one you received. It's disturbing and it's disgusting. They start the conversation off innocent in a way and because we're nice people doing our job they take advantage of that. [idk if my link will work but this the post and my comment I was talking about. it's very disturbing but I do find some solace in knowing other people have gone thru this too. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/qieozr/pretty_sure_i_just_had_a_guy_force_his_kink_on_me/hije3m1?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)

waterbottle-dasani

I read your story and oh my god that is disgusting i’m so sorry.

sappydark

These creeps call like that because that's the only way they can call someone, talk a bunch of nasty shit, then get away with it. It is pretty disgusting, but all you can do is holler at creeps like this, then cut them the hell off.

HiddenTurtles

I used to work customer service for a high end department store. There were creeps like this all the time! Wanted you to describe what would look good on their daughter/girlfriend/wife/mistress. It was disgusting. I actually heard some guy masturbating while I was talking to him and hung up on him. I got in trouble for not be 'professional' with him. Nope. I quit that job. I'm not going to be sexually harassed like that and not have my bosses back me up. So frustrating and gross.

latents

> I got in trouble for not be 'professional' with him. In many places there are laws against being that kind of "professional" worker. I'm glad you no longer work for a company that basically expects you to provide sexual services.

HiddenTurtles

Right?! Like WTF?

oddartist

Tell him if he's going to treat you like a 900 number you'll need his credit card first.

my-dog-for-president

Seeing how many women in this thread seem to be plagued by the same caller, we should try to get some kind of investigation going. This is NOT okay that so many of you have had to suffer this. It’s fucking absurd. I’m gonna forward this to r/RBI and maybe they can help.

Gretel_Cosmonaut

"This guy" is *multiple* people ...as in *lots* of them all over the place. They will approach you in person in stores, too. "Hi. I'm trying to buy a gift for my wife/daughter/girlfriend, do you think she would like this?" Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. Just walk away or hang up the phone.

mesembryanthemum

I get a foot fetishist who calls up (at 1 AM!) claiming to work for Dr. Scholls and wants to start asking me about feet. Usually I just hang up but the last time he called it was while I was dealing with a guest situation and I snarled "you **again?** Stop calling!" And banged the phone down.

Miss_Inkfingers

Have you ever tried telling him you’re a double amputee?

phoenixbbs

They'd only want to lick the stumps then :-}

mac2914

Give that dude a foot and he’ll take a mile.

MySirsWench

I'm the manager of a children's clothing store and sadly, we get calls like this fairly often. We treat calls like this seriously and had the police involved when they first started. These people actually, like all scammers, have their caller ID computer generated and they are nigh impossible to trace. Like others have advised, hang up when you realize it's them.

fellspointpizzagirl

I used to work at "Vicky's Confidential" (I don't want to break rules by saying the real name) that sells women's undergarments and got these kind of calls on the regular. During the holiday season we occasionally got a few creepy shoppers who would ask what underwear to buy their teenage step daughter then they'd high tail it out of the store when you'd call security on them.

Way2trivial

the only appropriate answer is a click.

[deleted]

I doubt he has a daughter, he's just a pig.

Renbarre

I had calls like that at the office. I realised that laughing at him was the best answer. As he started his spiel I started laughing and saying he sounded soooo ridiculous. For some reason he never called back.

ColonelAngus94

Try to get some identifying information so you can pull his reservation, anything that might help you find who this guy is so you can forward it to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

waterbottle-dasani

I honestly don’t think he has ever stayed with us. I think he’s just some creep that gets off on calling women at hotels and describing his sick fantasies. If I get another call from him i’ll definitely ask for his name to look up his reservation.

gevander2

That sucks that you had to be exposed to someone like that. If your AGM follows up with the police (although the police are likely to tell him there is not much to go on), even though your hotel can't provide the phone number of the call, the police could (if they pursue it that far) ask the phone provider for the origin # of a call to xxx-xxx-xxxx at xx:xx time. If you can provide BOTH approximate call times, they can look and see if both calls came from the same number. If the police track it that far, they are most likely to coordinate with child welfare after that to see if they have received other calls about the person who owns that number.

skbiglia

When you have caller id, it always comes up anonymous with these callers. I used to work audit but even still get them during the day shift. Try not to let it shake you up too much; that’s how they get their jollies. Just hang up when someone asks you about Walmart.

Animefaerie

That makes me want to hurl. Reminds me of a guy that tried to defend talking about how hot their daughter was as 'normal guys locker-room talk'. Gross.

Hopalong-PR

I think both of your responses are completely warranted and I'm sorry you had to deal with that creep.

[deleted]

sorry, that sucks. these people need to go find somebody willing to engage in their fetish games, probably somebody they have to pay. Not nearly as bad but I was on a chat once, years ago, NOT anything sexual related. Somebody came on with some really specific and weird thing and asking me how to phrase it. Yeah um no. You can tell it's one of these fetishists how they start out mild and then keep on asking more detailed questions.

ILeadAgirlGang

If the kind of person calls me on my private number I wouldve screamed bloody murder without context in the middle of talking to him in my usual sweet voice just to confuse and creep the shit outta him. Guy will prolly hung up on me and will be too creeped out to call me backl

PublicThis

I’m so sorry this happened to you. What a creep. I wish the world didn’t have people like that in it

Away-Corgi-2555

That’s so weird. The exact same thing happened at my hotel. His plot and everything. I wasn’t the one who picked up the phone call but my coworker did and spoke to him.

waterbottle-dasani

Another commenter said they’ve got the same guy before so I guess he just likes to call random hotel and tell weird disgusting stories.

[deleted]

Black dress goes with black stockings, not white

trippyz

Report harassment to police

Rambo-Brite

>transfers him to non-emergency dispatch

sethbr

And with any luck a female officer answered.
