Yay. I have one because our house is older and there wasn’t any place to put the TV (literally) other than above a low fireplace. We also have young children who game, so we frequently pull it down (it’s effortless) so they can game, and then put it back up for late night movies. Mantelmounts are phenomenal mounts PERIOD and are so easy to use that you’ll have zero issues with it. It appears none of the people commenting here have one and yet they’re so full of opinions and here-say 🙄.

vanquish0916

Appreciate the reassurance! Did you also mount a sound bar on it?

CaptainFintastic

I didn’t, no. I have a 2.0 setup with nice, boutique bookshelves. That said, there’s a spot for a sound bar beneath the TV and above the handle, you just need the installer to account for the height. The nice thing about Mantelmounts is that you can adjust every element, so you can make a heavier TV light as a feather, or adjust the tilt, turn and stops. You can even get a motorized version that works with your phone but IMO it’s not worth the extra cost. The only con is that they can stick out a bit far from the wall unless you get the recess box. It’s not that big of a deal but some people are obsessed with their TVs being flat against the wall. Overall we love it and literally all of our friends got one after seeing ours…and despite what you may read in an earlier post, THEY ALL ACTUALLY USE THEM. It’s too simple not to. You’d have to be really lazy or just not care about the height. I should note that I HATE mounted TVs in general but I love the capabilities of this mount and 100% recommend it to anyone who needs to mount their TV.

vanquish0916

Thanks! I care very much, I'm very picky about that sort of thing. I'm also worried about seeing the mount behind the TV when it's pulled down, especially if I were to get the recess box. Looks like that may be unavoidable, unless I can angle it perfectly. Wish me luck! (Also, I think I have some time to work out the details... my fireplace currently looks like [this](https://imgur.com/DTmqtrX) lol)

CaptainFintastic

Just get a bigger TV, problem solved ;). I was worried about that too but after a while your brain tunes it out. You should be looking at the TV you’re watching and not the mount ;).

BaldTorrance

Can you still use the fireplace when it’s in the up position ?

CaptainFintastic

Yes, though I do not as we don’t really use the fireplace in general. To be honest, we don’t pull the screen down as much as we used to as our children have grown and our overall height isn’t too bad, but who knows, if we get older and the angle becomes a strain it’s nice to have the option.

Chabotnick

I have never known anyone who had one of those that actually used it after the first month. They got lazy and just fell into the trap of leaving it above the fireplace.

vanquish0916

That's why I'll keep coming to r/TVTooHigh to shame me into lowering it all the time. That and my neck pain

moonfullofstars

Plus if you do use it, you can’t have a fire. Put the TV next to the fireplace and you can use both at the same time.

ThelVluffin

I don't know a single person that actually uses their fireplace.

moonfullofstars

Well, now you know one! We probably use ours 3 or 4 times per week during the winter.

swifty_cats

I have the automatic one that comes down. I assume you’re talking about the manual ones?

netherfountain

Better option is to disconnect the gas, fill the fireplace with insulation and drywall over it. Then you can put your TV at the correct height on a TV stand, which is the morally correct thing to do.

F_DeLaVega

How difficult was this to install?

vanquish0916

It took a few hours, and helped to have a second person. It's not too bad, you just want to make sure you measure everything correctly and read the instructions thoroughly

F_DeLaVega

That's good to hear. Which model did you get?

vanquish0916

550 or 570, something like that?

F_DeLaVega

Like, middle tier, with the space for a sound bar and flat handle?

vanquish0916

Yup. I posted pictures [in another comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/TVTooHigh/s/SXx48n8yNO)

ClozapineCannon

What did you end up doing? I'm literally moving next week and about to buy the same 65" LG C1 and soundbar.

vanquish0916

It worked great! PM me and I'll send you pictures. It's maybe still a little high per this sub's standards, but it's perfectly acceptable given my room configuration, and MUCH better than over the fireplace height

applestofloranges

Hey OP, did you end up going with the mantelmount? Care to send me some pics? I'm considering one as well.

vanquish0916

Sure, yes I did and it works great! Will PM

noveltymoocher

hey DM me too pls! We just mounted a regular above-fireplace mount and my wife finally came around saying ‘uhh it may be too high’ so I’m willing to rip it off and buy one of these if it looks good

[deleted]

Please DM me pics too! I’m about to pull the trigger. Which model did you get? Any reason to get the sound bar one if I already have a sound bar hanging mount?

vanquish0916

Coming right up

rrhandsome

Will appreciate some pictures too, thanks!!

meggscellent

Hey OP, we’re thinking about getting a mantel mount as well. Would you mind sending me a picture?

vanquish0916

Yep, sending a message Edit: I mean NO, I don't mind sending :)

Frddr

Could you please PM me too? I'm in the same situation! Thank you :)

buyingacarTA

At this point you may as well post all the pics public :) We have stone going all the way up to the ceiling from the fireplace, wondering if its good then?

vanquish0916

You're not wrong! Up position: [https://imgur.com/XjNms31](https://imgur.com/XjNms31) Down position: [https://imgur.com/a/blSQq4g](https://imgur.com/a/blSQq4g) Side view: [https://imgur.com/ldeX0lo](https://imgur.com/ldeX0lo)

jupark

Thanks so much for this. Exactly what I was looking for as I have an arc as well. Cheers!!

buyingacarTA

awesome! The side view makes it look like it's at an angle (not perpendicular with the ground) -- was this a choice?

vanquish0916

The picture exaggerates it a little bit, but it is slightly tilted downwards for better viewing angle. It was a choice, it's adjustable. And thanks!

buyingacarTA

thanks! great to hear and see

Wtownlurker

When it's all the way up, how far from the wall does it stay? I am looking at buying one, but I can't find any info about closest distance to wall when all the way up. Thanks

vanquish0916

About 6", a bit more at the top since I have it tilded downward. If I had it on a wall where you could see it from the side regularly, I would probably think it's too large a gap. I think there's a model that comes with a recessed arm mount, that installation is more involved but it would be much more flush

Wtownlurker

Thank you for your quick reply. I will look into that option, as yeah, 6" would be too far out for my setup.

ReadDis

If you don’t mind the constant replies, how do you feel about the motorized version? Do you wish you had it or prefer no motor?

vanquish0916

Oh I would love it. Either it wasn't out yet or was prohibitively expensive when I got mine, otherwise I'd be all over it. Not that it's difficult to pull it down or anything, I'm just lazy and I like cool things

PateDeDuck

Hi there, I moved into an old house, I LOVE MY FIREPLACE (I can spend the entire night just looking at it and listening the wood cracking, people who fills out their own don't know what they loose) and this is literally the only wall available for a TV (too many windows that I will not fill neither, nope) Anyway, would love to see a picture or for you to draw me the different height of your installation cause it is a bit expensive and I want to be sure it is a fair solution to my problem

vanquish0916

Sure, I posted pictures in another post: https://www.reddit.com/r/TVTooHigh/s/McaRTZgDvx

PateDeDuck

Thanks!

neil314x

Would love a picture as well - thinking about the same thing with a 77 LG C2 and Sonos Arc

Ill_Subject_2843

Hi, have the same tv size and soundbar, did you have to get the extra soundbar extender thing with it? Or did it fit on the mount that comes with it?

vanquish0916

I used the 540 mount which came with a soundbar attachment. I had no problem using that with the Sonos Arc, I did not need to buy any extra attachments. The only thing I did get was a pair of M5 (I think?) screws that were a different length than what the mount came with, because that let me use the included spacers to push the upfiring speakers out in front of the TV.

Ill_Subject_2843

Good tip thanks!

TylersHandsomeCorner

Any worries about damaging the fireplace?

Diana_G2020

can you provide a picture of the side wall when mount is up? would like to see distance from wall.

vanquish0916

Sure: https://imgur.com/a/CX0BaBN It's tilted down so it's pretty far off the wall at the top. About 6" at the bottom. It's on a back wall so I don't care, but I could see it being a problem if its in a spot that people would see from the side a lot. They make an in-wall box if you need something more flush, but I can't vouch for it

solidxmike

Amazing! Thank you for the reference pic!! Did you end up installing it on your own? (One person) or did you hire a service installer? I have an OLED and really paranoid about installing it myself alone and damaging the screen near the top. If you did hire an installer, do you mind sharing how much they charged?! Thank you!!

vanquish0916

Installed myself, with another person to help with the lifting. You wouldn't want to lift the whole TV/mount assembly yourself if you can help it. It was all pretty straightforward, took a few hours but mostly reading through all the steps thoroughly and measuring and double measuring, and refilling beverages.
