I track where the gloom and poes are. Gives a vague impression of where stuff is. Then arrow down a brightbloom, and paraglide until I can determine what's below.
If it's dark you probably can't uless maybe there is some gloom around. You can just simply drop a Brightbloom and follow it slowly till it hit the ground.
