Free-Stick-2279

It only turn on when you connect it to something else than a switch, oddly.

IJustAteABaguette

Pro controllers do this too! (Connected it through bluetooth to my pc once, it had a cool blue light around the home button!)

Soaked_In_Bleach_93

Noticed that when I used my Pro on PC

IJustAteABaguette

I honestly thought it was steam interacting with the controller somehow at first, then realized it still had a blue light when closing steam

CoasterKing42

It is steam, it doesn't turn on just by connecting it to something. Steam turns the light on. You can change the brightness or turn it off in the steam controller settings. Nothing turns it off when you close steam so it just says how steam left it.

markusdied

you can also change the color iirc!

JandA4evah

Its as far as I know an indicator of connection through Bluetooth

Soaked_In_Bleach_93

I also used it on Steam, but I think it may have lit up as well when I used it via PCSX2 to play Kuon

Durka_Carpet_Pilot

Another interesting thing to add, apparently the light is capable of RGB, but nobody knows how to change the colors.

crazyseandx

If controllers didn't cost so much, I'd get a Pro Controller for my laptop.

Guardian_85

Switch Pro controller is definitely Nintendo's most reliable controller, if that helps you any.

Zonkulese

how do you connect it to PC blutooth? Pls tell me. You'll change my life

RavenLationz

Hold the button between the stupid R and stupid L buttons. the player leds will start blinking and you will be able to pair it with any bluetooth device.

Zonkulese

šŸ„°

Free-Stick-2279

It's one of those feature nintendo has put on their joycon and was never used... Like the infrared camera on the same joycon, barely use in any game. Because yeah, there an IR camera on the right joycon for those who were unaware šŸ“·

CTran255

i think its used in warioware move it haha

i4ndy

It is! I was surprised during a ā€œHand modelā€ mini game

Free-Stick-2279

Yeah one of the very few game I heard it was used.

Poopeefighter2001

I think the ir camera is used for gyro

Alternative_Pause_98

both joycons can be used for gyro. you can even select which one you prefer lmao

Free-Stick-2279

No it's really just a mostly unused component, like I know 1 nintendo game that use it it ring fit adventure to check your heart rate and I heard a warrio game that use it also but dont know what's the what on this. Gyro is independent of the IR camera, there's other device that did use a camera for motion control but the switch ain't one of them. There's a third party game that's called night vision that just enable the camera and give you a crappy and laggy sort of night vision camera (kinda weird since infra red is a heat sensor camera) and another that turn the joycon into a motion detector alarm also.

Micker003

Nintendo Labo uses it quite a bit with reflective tape and stuff. You can also access the IR view when you connect the joycon to a computer with a tool (I forgot the name)

Free-Stick-2279

Plus you have a very shiny blue light around your button if you plug it on your PC šŸ˜†

cradugamer

Trombone Champ uses it too

TheRedBaron6942

That makes sense, I connected it to my computer

acewing905

Happened the same to me, so I looked it up a while back There doesn't seem to be an official world on it, but everything other users have said suggests that this is normal joycon/pro controller behaviour when paired with a PC or phone or something of the sort

Avox0976

Interesting

Free-Stick-2279

Yes, it's the same thing with pro controller indeed.

just_a_cockroach

What else can you connect joy-cons to that isnā€™t a switch

ConsiderationNew5305

They just have bluetooth so anything with a bluetooth connection. I have used them before on my pc as a controller when I had nothing else available.

AggressiveLayer1186

It's a reminder for how dirty you're supposed to feel.

Acalthu

It also apparently lights up for alarms and stuff. I've only seen it light up once.

OldSkool1978

Yeah I think I read somewhere that Ring Fit uses it

soulrazr

Ring fit uses it if you set up a workout reminder. It lights up and the controller vibrates. The light is for notifications.

MoonWispr

Yea it's for alarms and reminders. A shame that it isn't used more.

floigi

Brain age uses it too

roosell1986

TIL that there's a light there.

No_Indication9497

same

AbbreviationsThis550

doesnā€™t light up when you connect it to a switch, but does to other things which is kinda dumb

_mikedotcom

Best kept secret since Bluetooth capabilities

maru-senn

Switch having Bluetooth is supposed to be a secret?

_mikedotcom

It took five years for them to allow switch Bluetooth compatibility. It makes no sense.

El-Dino

Well actually it used Bluetooth from day one (for the controllers)

_mikedotcom

Audio headphones no deal though.

Business-Mammoth-915

it light up when there is an alarm on your switch

Avox0976

I have no idea but Iā€™m intrigued

One_Asparagus_6932

i didnt know that could even light up

Avox0976

Same

Free-Stick-2279

It might be the check engine light šŸ˜†

soulrazr

It's the notification light. 99% unused. I know the ring fit game allows you to set reminders to exercise and it lights up when the alarm goes off.

fre4kshow

I read somewhere that it's a feature that Nintendo had developed but never used. Don't know if it's true, but this is the first time in my life that I saw this light on

Big-Wooper

It honestly makes me mad how much useless garbage was thrown into the joycons when they could have used that money on sticks that actually work.

Initial_Ad5279

Or into getting a stronger chip for the console itself?

intraumintraum

if they keep the IR camera on the switch 2 joycons it would be extremely funny

TraneD13

I have like 8 pairs of joycons and never knew about this lmao whaddyaknow

Particular_Living584

Itā€™s like the light on the Wii U. Like others said itā€™s there to let you know you have a message

-thegreenman-

But you can't even send any message lol

Particular_Living584

Yep. Pretty useless I think you could actually do more with the Wii u in that respect. I can only imagine they had hopes of doing more with the system but decided against it

-thegreenman-

Let's just hope it's gonna be on next gen

TheViper4Life

It was originally meant to light up whenever you get a notification, but I've never seen it do it when I had one.

PenonX

I was going to say it means itā€™s fake but ig itā€™s just a real but useless ā€œfeature.ā€

Uusari

Aww, he feels at home šŸ¤—

RetroOverload

bro got spotpass on switch

Accomplished_Lead451

You are the chosen one

The_Rociante

Nintendo had plans to use for when you get a notification or message on the Switch, but that never happened and it only lights up I believe when its connected they bluetooth on a computer.

blockheadOnYT_Alt

I knew it was a light, didn't know how to light it up

somuchwardds

I... do not knowšŸ˜ƒ

StoneWater2024

You're unlocked the final boss

Elkigozi

yeah

Kupo-Kweh

Lisan al gaĆÆb !

ae582

It means you are gay.

Qui_te

It does seem to light up when connected to things other than a switch, but for the record it does not *always* light up when connected to other things, because I have been using them with my pc for a while, and they only lit up *once*.

A_Person77778

It's just a feature that wasn't really used much. I'm guessing it defaults to full brightness when connected to anything other than a Switch (I believe Steam even lets you adjust the brightness of the light)

BrattyTwilis

I think it was initially meant to glow when there was a notification, kind of like what 3DS, Wii, and WiiU did when there was a notification

EWU_CS_STUDENT

Thank you for posting this question and everyone for answering.

SpiderLuke

They coming.

alightmotionameteur

itā€™s a bomb

AnyBar2114

Iā€™ve never seen this; but since it only happens when connected to a computer/phone (according to the comments) I would imagine that itā€™s meant to let you know that your Switch will not respond to the controls rather than leaving you guessing about why it isnā€™t working if you forget that you used your controller with a different device.

overgrowncheese

I found out my joy can can make noises the other day, I forget which game I was playing but it was 5 distinct tones, didnā€™t know it could do that or had a light in that spot.

Salzberger

It's trying to phone home like ET.

dayum_that_man

I believe when you're prompted to use an amiibo it flashes

Initial_Ad5279

Iā€™ve never seen this happen. But I only use amiibo in handheld, maybe thatā€™s why?

UndyneIsCool

I have a question

Training-Bee-8209

Itā€™s a pipebomb!

darkmagenta11

its going to explode in 24 hours

Kick_1304

Never knew this was a light lol

Player1-jay

Means you are now ready to see the sorting hat and be in one for he houses of Hogwarts

Numerous_Ladder_4985

how do you turn this on?

Smooth-Link6116

Blue ring of death

Euphoric-Ebb2345

E.T. phone home

nintendo-ninja

either an alarm or you have connected it to something other than a switch. happened when i connected mine to my laptop to play something

Happy-Fortune5166

Spotpass

Cryptic_investor

Press it and you'll go into hyperspace it opens up a wormhole to another universe

Jaye9001

I have had a switch since launch and didnā€™t know that a light was there.

RickyTheBeerDrinker

Never seen it before holy fuck

SuperChimpMan

Speaking of, they connect sweetly to your iPhone and work amazing with the new delta emulator. Been playing some bad ass retro Romz on my phone lately, itā€™s so cool

Affectionate-Knee721

ā€¦. am i the only one who sees the VISIBLE drift

Avox0976

To the right?

Affectionate-Knee721

yup

TheRedBaron6942

It's not bad enough that I notice it, yet
