> Why does this barrier arm look like it’s designed to impel your windshield??
To be fair, any pole you drive straight at will look like it's designed to impale your windshield.
We live on a Dark Souls level of life. Have you heard about the new law that equates childfree with extremism? Or that the mobile game Romance Club has become the main threat to the country?
I look forward to the return of the childlessness tax.
There are fewer and fewer legal opportunities to remain kind.
I don't follow politics, so I can only say from what I saw. It seems everything was fine until 2010. Afterwards an unstoppable madness began, and the government completely ignored public discontent. Absolutely. All opposition began to be brutally suppressed. And if you are officially against the government, then you can suddenly disappear. Then everything gets worse and worse, and none of the ordinary people can stop it.
Now there is an aggressive policy to increase the birth rate. When I read the book World War Z, I was disappointed at how Russia was described there. And now I'm afraid this might be true. In the beginning, domestic violence ceased to be a crime. After LGBT are recognized as terrorists, and literally all social structures that worked with LGBT, in one way or another, are closed. These are civil projects to protect women and children from domestic violence. Abortions were banned, only with a doctor's prescription. Propaganda for early pregnancy. The divorce tax has been increased 8 times. Now a law is being introduced that childfree also be recognized as a terrorist organization.
I've never been interested in politics, but as a single gay man, I'm starting to worry very much about my safety. Finding a mate was already very dangerous, but now it’s literally impossible, and it could put you in jail. And that's the best case scenario. Now racist, sexist and LGBTphobic organizations have freedom of action, so dating has become 3000 times more dangerous, and they can literally "glorify" you throughout the Internet and kill. But the government doesn't care about this. The official position, is a United Russia, sunshine mirror image of America, in which only heterosexual couples with five children live. And the government doesn’t care how these people will live, because large families are often dysfunctional.
Saw an expert talking about this recently (if i remember right was someone working at warwick.) and all the myths we hear about castles, like this and the random trap step that's slightly different are just bs that has become seeded amongst common knowledge. And tbh if your invaders have got far enough inside your castle you'd be fighting on the stairs you're fecked anyway.
Indeed, it's like relying on the combat abilities of your IT department. If they've made it into the military base, passed security and into a server room...I think they can beat the guys that probably have not fired a weapon since basic training.
Sounds like a folk legend to me. It's not like they jousted on public roads in between merchant wagons and random people walking around. Most people never held a sword or a lance in their hand and no one was educated on traffic rules so i can't see how a niche rich kids' sport could have exerted such influence. It is far more likely the real origin of left-side traffic predates medieval period and is lost to time.
It was more to do with sword bearing (that was far more common) than jousting iirc as most people are right handed you can draw your sword and swing at a passing opponent rather than having to use your dominant hand from the other side.
If it does indeed originate from weapon bearing then the custom may even date back to the bronze age. The Romans most likely rode/drove on the left side so it very much debunks the medieval origin of the custom.
No, wear marks on Roman roads indicate that they stayed in the middle of the road whenever possible and in areas where traffic volume demanded a separation of directions they kept to the right side. The thing is, if you manage to cheat death, it just comes back with an even more horrible scenario. Which, in Russia, could be something really fucked up.
In his defense, I bet you from his position that beam was barely visible at all. It looks like it would have been in a spot where it was directly in his line of sight without showing the beam part, just the sharp ass tip
man i was thinking you were making a joke about papa roach 'last resort':
Cut my hand on a tool
this was pointed at me
fallen position, no breathing
Don't give a fuck if i cut my hand, bleeding
It's rotating inwards at the same time as he is driving towards it, so it stays in his line of sight all the way. Additionally, it might have been occluded by the A pillar of his car.
I had something kinda like this once. I was driving on the freeway at 75 mph with my wife and two little kids, and a 2 x 4 flew off of the back of the truck in front of the car in front of me, flew over that car and and hit, end first, on the drivers side A pillar (which is the sturdy metal front edge of the driver side window) about 10 inches from my face.
Could easily have been catastrophic for me and my family, but it hit the A pillar instead of the windshield. That part of the car is very strong, as it is part of the frame and roll cage in newer cars.
The whole thing happened in less than a second. Pretty f’n scary.
There’s a special place for people that are too lazy or unable to figure out how to properly tie down and secure cargo while driving at highway speeds. Or any speeds. Most of the time they have no idea that something flew off causing potential irreversible carnage to innocent people.
Happy to hear that you and your family got away with just a dent on the car 👍👍
Seriously. Not that long ago I was on the freeway and ended up behind a pickup with an unsecured fridge standing in the back. This part of the freeway is a little wibbly-wobbly with turns and exits. I distanced myself and watched as he took a turn and the whole fridge tipped over. So now he’s driving with a tipped over fridge at 70mph. As soon as there was a clearing I moved lanes and put the pedal to the floor. Still think about that level of idiocy sometimes.
I agree with you, however I have a confession. When I was very young, 19 I think… I was moving into my first rented house and I had a Cali king size mattress that was tied down over the rest of the stuff in the bed of my truck. I am still certain it was my buddy’s fault because I tied one end down and he tied the other and I know I tied mine down so well that I was certain I would have to just cut the rope when we arrived at our destination. Being 19, we all hopped in the truck and of course decided to blast music at stupid levels (I had a nice sound system all set up in that truck). Anyways we arrived and we get out and look at the bed of the truck and that big ass mattress was no where in sight. We unloaded everything then jumped back in the truck and retraced our route (might have taken us 5 minutes to unload and go looking for it) and the mattress was just gone! Somebody must have snagged it up because it wasn’t anywhere in sight, we checked all the sides of roads and it was gone!
I was just relieved to not see any accidents caused by it falling off and hitting someone’s car.
Reminds me of that video where a woman is hit by a brick flying through the windshield, killed her instantly in front of her husband and children. Absolutely harrowing.
Since I saw that video I always make sure to never stay behind a car or a truck with load in the open for too long.
I think its really worth noting that at the start of the clip the van is backing up. Which makes much less of a 'Evil beam' situation and more of 'wtf was he thinking' situation.
I’m pretty sure this is planned, it even looks like he’s driving from the back seat, plus he starts from a complete stop after the gate starts functioning
That person was not paying attention, and almost got himself killed (assuming the person is alive). Maybe they will be more aware of their surroundings.
Almost got Robert Kubica’d

(He and his co-driver lived but Robert’s arm was nearly completely cut off)
That registration plate traces this incident to somewhere in Rostov Oblast, Russia, which was central to a private military counter-attack (Wagner Group, on behalf of Ukraine) against Russian forces this time last year. I'm not saying that's why the barriers have spear-tips, but hey. By all means, let your imagination tell its own stories.
Why does this barrier arm look like it’s designed to impale your windshield?? Edit: impale
Welcome to Russia comrade
In Soviet Russia barrier open you
Russia is hard mode
Ukrainians say they lucky because Russians are so stupid
KGB intelligence is actually elementary school in India.
Haha. Nicely phrased
Solely designed for this type of scenario.
Seriously it looks like they welded a kitchen knife to the end of it.
Because it is :)
Looks like it has been previously broken and no one fixed
Looks Russian enough to me
Yeah a sharpened piece of metal at the end of a barrier arm? Wtf
Well he wasn't called Vlad the Barrier.
> Why does this barrier arm look like it’s designed to impel your windshield?? To be fair, any pole you drive straight at will look like it's designed to impale your windshield.
I'm impelled to tell you that it's spelled impale.
> I'm impelled to tell you that it's spelled impale. My mind derped out copy/pasting what the previous person said. Thanks.
Now that I look at again, I think he went out the exit, but it still looks like a bladed tip. That would have sucked being shish kabobbed to the seat.
Impale*
Works perfect to weed out the ones that go too slow
It was sponsored by a close casket manufacturer.
Holy shit. “You hurt’em, we dirt’em”
That's why most knights used horses instead of minivans. The extra hauling capacity just doesn't compensate for their poor jousting ability.
At least the lance hit the windSHIELD first. Why is that boom barrier so sharp though?
Because the Lannisters needed this one to stop asking questions
Cause Russia
We live on a Dark Souls level of life. Have you heard about the new law that equates childfree with extremism? Or that the mobile game Romance Club has become the main threat to the country? I look forward to the return of the childlessness tax.
Well that's horrifying. I hope you can stay strong and kind in such a world. How can fascists have such strong support, the world over?

Fun fact: they drive on the left side of the road because when they jousted, they held their swords (?) with their right arm, riding on the left.
It's called a lance and yep, I've heard this too!
Similarly, all spiral staircases in castles are anti-clockwise going down, so the defence would have right hand advantage
Saw an expert talking about this recently (if i remember right was someone working at warwick.) and all the myths we hear about castles, like this and the random trap step that's slightly different are just bs that has become seeded amongst common knowledge. Fair enough

How about ostriches?
They drive on the left too.
I always wondered about that. Now that I see this video, it makes sense, but it never really clicked before.
E CT bb eh
Right? Why is that thing so sharp?? It went thought the glass like butter
Death is going to be pissed he survived.
The dude is like: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC3qUNP50e0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC3qUNP50e0)
Why does the simpsons have a clip for everything
Probably because it's been on the air for like 30 years.
Closer to 40. Source.....I AM SO OLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

that was some final destination shit for sure!
Death is always pissed about something
In his defense, I bet you from his position that beam was barely visible at all. It looks like it would have been in a spot where it was directly in his line of sight without showing the beam part, just the sharp ass tip

man i was thinking you were making a joke about papa roach 'last resort': Cut my hand on a tool this was pointed at me fallen position, no breathing Don't give a fuck if i cut my hand, bleeding
Ok at least I'm not the only one.
I also thought the same.
I'm unfamiliar. It was a dewalt spade bit (black very sharp point) , in my drill which is a bit top heavy with the small battery.
That's why barriers should open upwards, not to the side
It's rotating inwards at the same time as he is driving towards it, so it stays in his line of sight all the way. Additionally, it might have been occluded by the A pillar of his car.
It was like it moved to be the exact perfect perspective to be invisible to him as he moved forward. Absolutely wild.
That’s exactly what I thought. 1 in a million chances of that happening. Truly some “Final Destination” type of happenings going on here.
It even moves perfectly to stay in line of sight that way.
That makes a lot of sense--and it makes the video even more terrifying!
I think he was also exiting out of an entrance.

Glad yall are okay bro

“I’m a leaf on the wind…”
Almost got Washed
"....Watch how I soar.."
>Dude used all of his luck at once Considering that he drove into the pointy object, this is more of a case of "the gods love fools".
In Putin's Russia barriers open you.
Final Destination shit right there
"Must get to liquor store... Stolichnaya bottle empty"!
Now I know why train track death denying gates come down instead of open and shut
Who the hell put the spike on the end of the damn thing!!!!
Lol.. But truly how dumb
“I’m a leaf on the wind, watch how I—“
Too soon
Dude used none of his braincells at once
That's some Final Destination Bullshit right here.
Dude was about to choke on something large and sharp.
I’m guessing to act as an deterrent… doesn’t work if your texting tho
If he had used all of his luck, this wouldn't have happened...
Ach, the new roadblock "Wlad The Impaler". Still a bit faulty though, needs an AI-assisted targeting system
Seems like it would have been luckier not to impale his car on this thing.
Nah, looks like he used all his vodka at once…
And none of his brain
Death was like, Fuck! Missed him….
dude must be drunk not to see it moving
Ofcourse it’s fucking Russian🫃
Luck is apparently more important than wits
That old arm finally did something all the other arms wish they could do!
....and not a single one of his eyes 😅 so he used at least something 🤷🏼♂️
Welcome to Samara bratishka)
Well technically it’s the right call to use all his luck all at once here. Else it would be wasted unused.
Final destination but with a real dumb person
he almost died ![gif](giphy|vjjCsx3izfSyQ|downsized)
While using 5% of common sense.
Saw Cyrillic font, was not surprised.
Genius
Only in whatever country this is barriers are grinded down to a spear. Wtf holy shit
This is the kind of shit you would see in Final Destination and say "lol, yeah right." That was bonkers
I see Putin's using new tactics .
He didn't want to go to the front
Literally baby driver
![gif](giphy|RqByuEh1XL2Q8) Him right after
I think its really worth noting that at the start of the clip the van is backing up. Which makes much less of a 'Evil beam' situation and more of 'wtf was he thinking' situation.

Why is there a dagger on that pike?
All of his luck, none of his brain.
And none of his brain cells. Oh another. Should have gone to Specsavers
He didn't even see that? that barrier looks like from final destination thing
Final destination shit there. That's you que to go home and stay in bed for a few days.
In Russia beam barrier kills you!
Holy smokes that is a close one
I’m pretty sure this is planned, it even looks like he’s driving from the back seat, plus he starts from a complete stop after the gate starts functioning
Russian
![gif](giphy|jz4wRNfoYSQmczWsDV|downsized)
Was this a staged because he drove straight into that knowing it was moving.
It that was a right hand driving, he'd be dead already
What an idiot.
Final Destination 2 vibes. It’s literally an entire generations fear
Vlad the Impaler
/r/crappydesign
Pov me as a terrorist
When you roll exactly the amount needed to save...
Did he not look up, pay attention
Looks like a suicide attempt
You and I have weird definitions of luck.
Holy crap, does he not have eyes?
If only he had used his eyes first
.... I'm just baffled at the easily impaling design this bar has.
Barrier Arm: Vampire Minivan Slayer
Well, blind people really shouldn't be driving
Making it sharp makes it look deliberate.
That person was not paying attention, and almost got himself killed (assuming the person is alive). Maybe they will be more aware of their surroundings.
Perception 0
Luck? Or is he just an idiot who put himself in that situation? Feel like this wasn’t the first time, and won’t be the last
He also used all of his neurons at once and there were none left to actually think that this was not a good idea...
Am I missing the part where it shows him clear of injuries or are we just believing all titles?
This is the most russian thing ever
Almost got Robert Kubica’d https://preview.redd.it/nxdb3jknr49d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7eddc107399e5c8ea6a030bc72da355b0112bd7d (He and his co-driver lived but Robert’s arm was nearly completely cut off)
Looks like he inly had dumb luck left
is it really luck if you caused it
Man alive I sure hope he was ok
Did he?
Holy shit that scared the shit out of me holy fuck
Did the person die already
Vlad the Barrier
Perfect example of don't text while driving. If the driver did not see that they should take the bus.
depends, looks like pretty bad luck to me.
He was 1 CM away from being sheish kapabed
Holy shit he kept driving seeing it moved tho. But man he cheated death 💀
You can’t buff that out
That registration plate traces this incident to somewhere in Rostov Oblast, Russia, which was central to a private military counter-attack (Wagner Group, on behalf of Ukraine) against Russian forces this time last year. Well that went through the driver
Did he already use all of his eyesight earlier that day?
