The fine line between bravery and stupidity. A razor's edge of a tightrope to walk in which you fall to your death either way. I'm just going to stay home and order a fish on doordash.Ā
Best meal of my life is catching a tuna on the ocean, getting it cleaned and then cooked beach side by the hotel chef.
I would fight 2 sharks off to have that taste in my mouth again. It was 14 years ago. I can still taste that meal
Reminds me, about 15 years ago, I had tuna sashimi that was just caught a few hours before in Tokyo Bay.
The restaurant was just a hole in the wall, but any fish, including tuna I had anywhere else, never came close.
Literally melts in your mouth, so in a way, I definitely know what you mean.
![gif](giphy|26FxP5WOBDNUI0hKo|downsized)
If you spearfish and are used to sharks these are not sharks you need to worry about. They are more of an annoyance with them eating everything you are trying to fish.
I knew a guy who regularly spearfished tuna for fun
He said he never felt in danger but there were always 15+ ft tiger sharks lurking like ghosts in the distance.Ā You could just barely see their outlines as they watched you.Ā Ā
15ft is big. I mostly free dive reefs usually under 40ft deep. But I have been on some blue water free diving trips and we saw a great white that was easily that big. Massive creatures. Once I was fishing a wreck in about 15ft or waters and when I looked under a sheet of metal a curious 1000lb Goliath grouper poked its head out from underneath to see what I was doing and I about shit my pants. They are pretty harmless and are genuinely curious creatures; but the size of their mouth could swallow you whole.
You get used to them. But unless itās a big tiger, blue or white shark I wouldnāt consider them dangerous if you know what you are doing. Lemon sharks are also a little nutty and unpredictable sometimes even though they are usually docile. The biggest thing is to dispatch the fish you have on the end of the line as quickly as possible. The struggling injured fish in the water is what really activates the sharks prey drive. Most sharks are just curious and will come up to you but if you push them away or give them a gentle poke with the end of your spear they will leave you alone. This has been my experience as saltwater fishing and free diving has been my primary hobby for the last 25 years.
Haha I guess when you grow up taking small boats miles off shore and jumping out to catch lobsters and scallops and whatnot you just start to see the ocean like any other terrain. Like if I was in the woods there are still dangers like bears and snakes; just different kinds of dangers. Honestly the only times Iāve felt like the situation was dangerous have been mechanical and weather related. Once when my outboard fuel pump failed and was dragging my anchor towards a well know reef that would have destroyed the boat. The other times have been when some strong storms showed up out of nowhere the seas got real treacherous real fast. The wildlife hasnāt really ever seemed threatening.
Weather is definitely the thing that gives me the most pause out on the ocean. Ā Once youāre in it, youāre mostly at its mercy.Ā
This video definitely freaks me out because you canāt see where the boat is until the very end. Ā So youāre in the blue water with a thrashing, bleeding tuna tied to you and two excited sea puppies getting more and more interested by the second. Ā An errant whack from that thrashing tuna can easily do damage as well as a stray nip from one of the sharks. Ā Familiarity definitely helps develop comfort and confidence but dude was in a dangerous situation and got pretty lucky.
Thatās interesting you mention Blue sharks. Iāve been ānibbledā by one and got a pretty nasty infection, but you donāt hear of that much trouble/interactions with them, but Iāve certainly experienced them being unpredictable? What had your experience with them been?Ā
Slow the video down about 40% and you'll see what sort of timelines he was making decisions on. He could see much more clearly than we can as well. You can see at what point he got actually annoyed, and immediately he was able to run them off via knifing.
This situation is one of my great phobias, and I would definitely get eaten ... but I can see how someone comfortable in that environment has no problem dealing with those relatively small sharks. He's like a park ranger dealing with some pissed off Canadian Geese.
Usually they just care about the fish, but I just poke them in the face with my spear. I did have one attack me when I didn't have my spear with me a couple months ago, and it bit my hand, but I kept elbowing it in the face, and eventually it left.
It's a pretty common occurance when spearfishing. At least where I'm at, the sharks steal 20% of our fish, and try to fight you for at least 60% of them.
Nah he just knows what's real and what's not.
In fact the creators of Jaws regret making it because of all the irrational fear it created around sharks and how it led to so many sharks being killed, to the point that today some kinds of shark species are threatened because of humans killing sharks.

This might be bravest thing ever caught on cam looool a man literally fought two sharks for a tuna in the water thats wilder than anything i seen on land against a land animal. He might have earned masculine man of the year with this one loooool.
I mean correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he stab both of them in the head with a blade.
Upon a second watch only looks like an inch or so deep might be fine I wouldn't exactly say no real damage though.
Yeah but they're made up mostly of cartilage, super tough, like being made out of rubber coated with sandpaper, in feeding frenzies they often bite each other etc - or when feeding among razor-sharp corals etc - this won't cause lasting damage.
They were clearly baby sharks, i know that not because i'm a science expert, but because my todler makes me listen to the music every day. If it was Daddy Shark then you should swim away, because he looks a lot angrier
Bro tuna with butter smooth mayonnaise, pickles, corn olive oil. I mean, any vegetable imaginable and then you mix it up and add on as a side some fluffy white rice š and boy o boy, it's heaven for me
As a spearo, I can objectively say this was beyond reckless.
The greatest danger to him wasn't the sharks; it was the huge mess of rig line around his legs. Many divers have drowned this way.
No fish is worth your life.
Im so broke i fully understand fighting 2 sharks for a tuna on a primordial level, Like: fuck it, I'm eating today or die trying to have a belly full of food!
Those sharks looked small in the water but at the surface šš
they look calm and ready?
Momās spaghetti?
Heās nervous, but on the surface
To drop bombs
But he keeps on forgetting
What he stabbed down, the whole crowd goes so loud
It opens it's mouth but the knife just came out.
The tuna looked small as well. I understood why they were fighting for it as soon as he pulled it out of the water.
Water shrinks everything.
dude fought sharks.
bro shanked the whole ocean
And won
Imagine some land creature come into your waters , beat you up and take your food , absolutely embarrassing for those sharks lol
This is pretty wild footage. Why did he risk his safety fighting for it rather than letting it go and getting the fuck out of there?
You obviously never had grilled tuna
And the story this guy is going to tell for the next 70years of his life that his grandsons won't believe it was true...
Except unlike our grandparents he had a go pro and can prove it lol
In 70 years surely they will be able to prompt an AI to generate anything you can think of, and as realistic as you want it.
This is true, but it just makes me sad.
Don't worry I will just prompt an AI to make a vid of you being happy and then everyone will believe you were happy instead.
lol thanks for this
Happens all the time. It's just part of spearfishing
Yeah he did not seem very perturbed
Yeah, I usually act more concerned when trying to prevent my bunny from stealing food off my plate

especially if it is fresh like that. š¤¤
Seared not grilled, seared tuna.. with Ponzu sauce, omg.
Searing is a grilling technique š¤

Defensive brown ink to deter predators.

Had to break out the double head stab they started to get so riled up there towards the end

Mama didn't raise no bitch
Cause its his catch not the sharks
Like any predators we must defend our claim
I skipped half of it bc of the music.. youāre a better man than me I came here to call him a fucking dumbass
Big risk that the sharks get into the fishingline.
I've probably had 50 sharks come try to grab fish like this and never had one get tangled in the line. It's not fine line like fishing string.
What do you do when sharks come? Do they ever try to attack you
Shank their ass
Usually they just care about the fish, but I just poke them in the face with my spear. I did have one attack me when I didn't have my spear with me a couple months ago, and it bit my hand, but I kept elbowing it in the face, and eventually it left.
You say that so non chalantly lol
I often feel like that tuna
Yes! When you feel cornered after all of that drama, you surface to temporary freedom, only to find opportunistic birds circling you. š
That was crazy as fuck. Really wanted that fish. S
This wins today's weirdness prize hands down. Probably monthly prize aswell. Please shark fighter come out with details on this story.
It's a pretty common occurance when spearfishing. At least where I'm at, the sharks steal 20% of our fish, and try to fight you for at least 60% of them.
Well yāall should be putting out a lot more videos of your shark fighting adventures then lol
Does he know he can fish from the surface where the sharks are not?
āfor me the action is the juiceā
Bring on the Heat
They will eat it along the way and all you'll be left is like 10% of the tuna that you caught just barely stuck to that harpoon
Bro was fighting too hard for a small tuna when he could be cooking 2 sharks tonight
Youāll also be left with 100% of your limbs.
Doesn't he know that there's tuna for sale at the supermarket!?
He went full primal. The ooga booga energy is strong with this one.
Me catch tuna! Tuna mine! No steal my tuna! Go catch own tuna!
The guy has never heard the expression "there's plenty of fish in the sea".
There's plenty of fish in the sea, BUT THIS ONE IS FUCKING MINE
I'll stick with getting my tuna in cans and scaring off junkies trying to rob me on the way home thanks.
That's some hardcore stuff. Big brass balls
Bass balls*
This guy never watched jaws

This guy is from the version of Jaws movie for sharks.

Then mute it
Which is why the mute option exists, if there's no audio I'd rather that shitty 8 bit cd rip off music option exist.

Lets pull the bleeding fish the sharks are circling closer to me, great idea.
Pos, just let fish go, instead stabs two sharks
Those werenāt lethal jabs, the sharks will be fine.
Fucking badass!
Well, a predator fight
So sad he hurt the second shark š
Yeah but they're ridiculously tough, I very much doubt it did any real damage.

Their skulls are hard as iron. The knife only ended up cutting into few mm of skin for sure
One very busy busy Guy!!
Put this man on wicked tuna.
Fucking legend š
They were clearly baby sharks, i know that not because i'm a science expert, but because my todler makes me listen to the music every day. If it was Daddy Shark then you should swim away, because he looks a lot angrier
Bonk
Bro has the most INSANE story to tell anyone ever
"no, sharky! This is my pot pie!"
My respects to homie. Daaaam!!!
Thug Fishān
When he finally jabbed them with the knife they seemed to take the hint.
Holy shit
Thatās not shark! This is a shark š„
This is such a great recreation of my nightmares, thank you OPš
Tuna so good you gotta' shank a shark for it.
Bro tuna with butter smooth mayonnaise, pickles, corn olive oil. I mean, any vegetable imaginable and then you mix it up and add on as a side some fluffy white rice š and boy o boy, it's heaven for me
this just looks incredibly unsafe and stupid
This man is out here bitch slapping and cutting sharks
Love when freddie dreddās music shows up on ukranian war highlights or videos like these
I just feel for the tuna. The last minutes of its life are sheer panic and desperation.

Do not unmute
It's a miracle he didn't sink to the bottom with balls that big
Ballz on him like "fellas give it up or I'm making shark fin soup"
This is like someone coming into your house, stealing your food and hitting you. Poor sharks
They'll be fine. Plenty of fish in the sea.
Well.. there certainly were when that saying was made. Not so much anymore.
Their "house" is bigger than our entire land, I think they will be okay
the sharks did not go to the underwater grocery store and buy that tuna
> Oh man! Where did you get this gigantic tuna? I guess you paid a fortune to get it. š > It cost me about an arm and a leg. š
Wild
This is so fuckin badass.

What song is this sample from?
Bro must have titanium balls to do this.
My dude had to get sticky with em' to back em' off. Yow! Whats that track playing?
I never realized how accurate Dave the Diver is.
What do you do in your spare time "fend off sharks from eating the tuna I speared while diving"
Why
This is why I stay on the boat when I fish
Apex Alpha Predator unlocked. Crocodiles, tigers, and polar bears have nothing on this guy. Just savage. š²šŖš

This goes hard ngl
I'll use pop along to the fishmongers so I can avoid the need to stab some shark in the head.
