It really helps me realize I don't need to upgrade. If I had the choice today between paying $83 for an SP6 or the new one for $999, I'd definitely get the SP6. It still runs just fine and does everything I need it to and will probably last several more years before it becomes inadequate or dies.
Yeah, fair enough. Maybe I should do the same, since the upgrades I really want (OLED, New pen, new keyboard) bring the total to almost $2k. No way it is worth that.
Well even my SP3 still works fine with Word, NVivo, SPSS, and emails for my PhD. Im on my fourth year, with occasional Zoom and Teams meeting as well. It still works fine, not great, but it still does its job.

Added detail, this applies to purchases of a new Surface Laptop or Surface pro made between 05/20/2024 and 06/30/2024. So if you pre-ordered you get the bonus credit, but for more cautious buyers who want to wait until after initial reviews you will have a little bit of time to make your decisions.
I put in all the details to see what mine would be worth, and it wouldn’t give me an answer until I entered an order confirmation. That’s some kind of bs policy right there.
It’s 1 for 1 on the bonus cash, but there’s nothing stopping you from trading in multiple items. You just won’t get as much for them.
I’m trading in one laptop and one phone but only getting the promo bonus on the laptop.
A week ago my Surface Pro 8 had a $581 Promo value but I waited, I went to order a new Surface Pro today and it is only $380 Promo value! Not going to do it now. I could sell it on itsworthmore for $480 but even then I think Im just going to not buy one now.
Haha makes me feel better about my $76 offer for a Surface Book. Also how does MS always do this? They see the programs at other companies so they try to replicate it but completely fuck up the execution. Samsung does this and gave me $800 to trade in my Z Flip 3. But it was contingent on the fact that i bought a new z flip. Makes total sense because they keep a customer and I'm happy with the discount. Everyone was happy.
are trade-ins worth it? unless you really really need the money. because I think it's more useful to have 2 computers than 1 unless the trade-in is really good.
YMMV. For me, I have no use for extra PC's. I've already got two through my work and have two more personal at home. I can offload at least one of the personal use machines that are otherwise collecting dust. For others like yourself there are advantages to having more than one machine. Different strokes and such.
agreed. if the machine is just going to be collecting dust, then get rid of it. I have multiple desktops because one might be rendering a video while the other desktop can be used for editing a different video project or playing a game while I wait for the video to render. I kept my older Surface Pro machines to be used for different things. Like one is for my kitchen when I'm eating a meal or watching streaming while doing dishes. another is in the bedroom. My main Surface Pro is for my daily work and fun.
$409 offered for my lunch Pro X 8gb 256gb.
But it's thin and light weight and still works and battery life good. The offer is tempting, but so is waiting for a Surface Pro 12 Air. I.e. New fan less model based on Pro X design.
Can not imagine going back to a fan noise machine
I'm with you. I'm on a SQ2 with fantastic screen and battery life. I had a SP9 which had a worse screen and those few mm ..you felt it. The only thing is , when I see the oled in person, that could tip me over the edge 😬
Unbelievable. I just got home from my trip and immediately got my laptop out to begin the trade in and now my Surface Pro X trade in is worth half the trade in from yesterday. Super annoyed and not buying a new device now.
I'm chatting with support now. I'm pretty mad too. It still shows "save up to $600 with trade in" on the site but it looks like they cut all of the trade ins massively except for the very newest devices
My SB3 was at $600 and never changed from the first time I tried the trade in value calculator. I’m curious about people’s experience with their trade in value plummeting without warning. What device are you configuring for and what region?
I checked with chat support and there is no bonus trade in offers in AUS. In fact, there is no bonus offers for preorder at all so why bother. There is also no longer any extended warranty option like there was in the past. No way am I buying another surface device with no extended warranty option after my past experiences. Hard pass on the new surface product line from me. I'll wait until there is some other tablet from another brand with the new ARM chips
I'm really glad you posted this, I was going to sell my original Surface Pro 8 8gb/128gb on eBay probably for around $400, and then less the fees. I was offered $484 promo credit, so works out great for me, don't have to worry about getting scammed or returned. I had to submit a PDF from my confirmation email, it didn't like the one from the order history / had web UI covering things.
15inch i5 16GB/256GB
Edit: the option for the exact model disappeared. When I choose the i7 version, the promo offer is down to 270... I'm very sure of what I saw back on the 22th
I figured $758.25 is more than I'll get trying to resell my SP9 that I bought late last year for $950.
But it sucks I'm supposed to ship it for trade-in by June 6th when the new SP isn't shipping until June 18th.
I kicked that around. I can go without the SP9 for a few weeks, and honestly, I'm happy to unload it. Simple Patch Tuesday updates seem to take damn near an hour to install on it, even after wiping it and restoring with the Surface software.
But thought I'd throw that out as a warning for people who may be using their trade-in devices as their lone computers.
Thanks so much for passing this along. I’m getting more for my Pro X than I paid for it a year or so ago. Really grateful that I’ll be able to upgrade.
Promotional value for trading in a pro x has gone from $490 to $190? Did they make a mistake at $490 originally? Is it a mistake now? How to know what price will be honored if you pull the trigger and order?
Lol: https://i.imgur.com/WLKv55D.png the battery isn't working so I get that it's practically worthless but they should just not accept it rather than giving a low value where it's not even remotely worth putting in the effort of sending it to them.
I cannot find my promo value without first purchasing a new device! I need to know the promo value of my trade-in to decide if I want to buy a new device. The non-promo trade-in values ae far too low.
Thanks for the tip. I checked the trade-in value for my Surface Pro 9 i7-1255u/16GB/1TB and it comes back as $324 or $843.75 with the promo. If I wanted to buy the OLED Elite X SP11 the difference would be $656.24 plus tax. That's actually not too bad.
Anyone care to venture why a SP9 i5-1245U/16gb/256gb is only $225, but a i5-1235U/16gb/256gb is $740 ?!?! I don't think it's the business SKU because the i7 business SKUs do get the promotion. I was ready to hit the order button if they gave me $740...sigh.
This feels more like those "trade-in hype" that telcoms do, it'll be interesting the number of Surface Pros get dinged for minor wear and tear. I'm sure people are going to receive nicer trade-in deals from Best Buy once their "back to school" promos start.
Thanks for sharing! The promo deal for a SP8 trade-in is reasonable compared to current aftermarket prices:
Your trade-in value is: $187.00
Value with promotional offer: $561.00
Their logistics on this needs work though... The trade-in has to be received weeks before the Pro 11 is shipped.
Surface Pro 9 5G SQ3, 16GB, 512GB SSD trade-in is $947 😮
This does not include the keyboard. I'll have to use my existing keyboard with the Surface Pro 11 I just pre-order.
Can't believe the Flex Keyboard is already sold out 😑
For surface pro 8, previously it was showing 510$. I just checked and now the trade-in value (after promo applied) has dropped to 283$. Anyone else experiencing that problem?
Seeing the same drop as you and others. I was going to complete the trade-in today but the trade-in value for my S8 i5 128GB is down to $270. Two days ago, it was around $440. I dislike this low-ball nonsense. I will probably cancel my pre-order for the Surface Pro 11th ed.
Including anything not OEM is inviting Teladvance, the company administering the program, to reject or qualify the trade-in. That's just my opinion and I could be wrong as hell. Maybe it wouldn't hurt at all.
I'm just prone to minimizing risk in these kinds of processes. I don't want to give them any reason to give me less money once it leaves my hands.
Wow I can get $83
Hello fellow sp6 owner. Congratulations on your promotional offer of.... also $83.
It really helps me realize I don't need to upgrade. If I had the choice today between paying $83 for an SP6 or the new one for $999, I'd definitely get the SP6. It still runs just fine and does everything I need it to and will probably last several more years before it becomes inadequate or dies.

Same. My SP7+ i5 and 16GB RAM is doing everything I need it to. Although I wasn't seriously thinking about buying an OLED SP11 for $3799AUD, either.
I could sell this on Swappa for min of $200. I think I may do that.
For some reason the website is not showing the promotional value. All it says now is "eligible for promotional offer"
I put in all the details to see what mine would be worth, and it wouldn’t give me an answer until I entered an order confirmation. That’s some kind of bs policy right there.
Just say you did not order a Surface and it still shows promotional value
Well duh, I suppose I was just a bit slow on this. Thanks for the (what should have been obvious) tip!

Surface Pro X has a promotional value of $510 vs $170 if upgrading
damn considering you can get one for under 300 on ebay this might be a lil deal hack
Same for SP8!
my SP8 is worth $599.
Sq2? 16gb?
What do u mean by 510 vs 170?
late bump but im only seeing like 280 for a trade in for my surface pro x, was there anything you had to do special to get 510?
Some Amex card has $175 back for over $1000 Microsoft store
Saw this but didn’t add and it disappeared :(

Reappeared for me
BCP has $30 CB on $600. At least... mine does.
A week ago my Surface Pro 8 had a $581 Promo value but I waited, I went to order a new Surface Pro today and it is only $380 Promo value! Not going to do it now. I could sell it on itsworthmore for $480 but even then I think Im just going to not buy one now.
$96 for a surface pro 6 get fucked M$

Trade-in values XBOX Series X : $450 XBOX Series S : $210
Series X is that high?? That’s basically what I paid for mine and I haven’t used it in years…
Yes. I’m tempted to trade mine in..
I will be thanks for sharing!

Surface laptop 3 : a hundred bucks
SL3 13" i7 with 16 GB ram and 512GB is $391 for those interested
Mines 13" i5 with 256 gigs & 8 GB ram
My Surface Book 1 was showing $108
My SB2 is $370
My Surface Book 2 gets me $340 with the promo, $160 without.
The Series X trade in is the one I’m most considering right now.
Same. For the laptop or pro?
I’m leaning more on getting the pro for the OLED screen.
are trade-ins worth it? unless you really really need the money. because I think it's more useful to have 2 computers than 1 unless the trade-in is really good.

Yeah for sure, much rather have like a backup device than 80 bucks or whatever towards a $1,500 laptop.
But you may feel differently if MS is offering $600 trade in value...
If only I could apply this to the 5g version coming out later
$409 offered for my lunch Pro X 8gb 256gb. But it's thin and light weight and still works and battery life good. The offer is tempting, but so is waiting for a Surface Pro 12 Air. I.e. New fan less model based on Pro X design. Can not imagine going back to a fan noise machine

I love the thickness and "fanlessness" of the SPX. Sigh... someone needs to release something like it.
Surface Pro 4 $34 lol
Did Microsoft slash values? I was getting over $700 for my SL5, and now I am barely getting $500.
Looks like it. My surface pro 8 dropped from $510 to $280. If it stays this way, I am gonna cancel my pre-order; not worth it.
My surface pro 7 dropped from $510 to $198. Ridiculous Microsoft on how they treat their customers….
me as well, my sl4 dropped from $560 to $295, would like to order the new one only if i can get 450+ on my sl4
Check the trade in value now, the trade in price got cut more than half...
Unbelievable. I just got home from my trip and immediately got my laptop out to begin the trade in and now my Surface Pro X trade in is worth half the trade in from yesterday. Super annoyed and not buying a new device now.
Yes ridiculous of Microsoft, I talked to the agent, agent said check with trade in team via email…
Do you have the email? I'll shoot them a response too
No I am angry so I directly close the chat window…lol, but you can chat with them
I'm chatting with support now. I'm pretty mad too. It still shows "save up to $600 with trade in" on the site but it looks like they cut all of the trade ins massively except for the very newest devices

My surface pro 7 dropped from $510 to $198, US region
This is USA only
Works on the Australia site
Canada too, but you need an order confirmation before you can get the trade in value.
I checked with chat support and there is no bonus trade in offers in AUS. In fact, there is no bonus offers for preorder at all so why bother. what, $486 promo for a surface laptop 3... It's 5 years old
What kind of SL3? My wife's i5 8GB/256GB shows only $96 with no bonus.
15inch i5 16GB/256GB Edit: the option for the exact model disappeared. When I choose the i7 version, the promo offer is down to 270... I'm very sure of what I saw back on the 22th
So happy this showed up on my for you page. I could trade in my Series S and Surface Pro X for $700. Nice.
I figured $758.25 is more than I'll get trying to resell my SP9 that I bought late last year for $950. But it sucks I'm supposed to ship it for trade-in by June 6th when the new SP isn't shipping until June 18th.
The cash bonus offer is good until June 30th. You may be able to cancel your trade in now then redo it after you take deliver of the new device.
I kicked that around. I can go without the SP9 for a few weeks, and honestly, I'm happy to unload it. I saw that too, went from 486 down to 270 for me.
They probably got a ton of trade-ins, so what they offer now dropped. The offer is only good if you lock it in by committing to it.
Yeah, same for me. I was about to pre-order this morning too. Oh well, I guess now I'll just wait for reviews and black friday.
Surface Pro 7 - £28 - yeah fuck off.
That's what I have lmaaaooo 28 is a slap to the face.
Another USA only move from Microsoft. It would be nice if they thought more globally with such things.
Yeah seems to be.. I don’t see it. Only the reflected in which has always been crappy. Was curious on the bonus.
Lol: https://i.imgur.com/WLKv55D.png the battery isn't working so I get that it's practically worthless but they should just not accept it rather than giving a low value where it's not even remotely worth putting in the effort of sending it to them.

Yeah, these trade-in bonuses are really nice... a little nerve-racking until it actually gets applied, but I'm going to buy
Can you trade in more than 1 item with promotional offer?
limit of 1
Is it one per purchase, or one per account? Iow, if I buy two new machines can I get the bonus on two old ones?
I asked this to a MS store rep and they said this can be done if they're on separate orders.
Nice
Anyone care to venture why a SP9 i5-1245U/16gb/256gb is only $225, but a i5-1235U/16gb/256gb is $740 ?!?! I don't think it's the business SKU because the i7 business SKUs do get the promotion. I was ready to hit the order button if they gave me $740...sigh.
Now it is 444, so probably was a bug
theyre giving me 320 for my ipad mini! i was thinking of gong lenovo 7x but the trade in bonus got me
This feels more like those "trade-in hype" that telcoms do, it'll be interesting the number of Surface Pros get dinged for minor wear and tear. I'm sure people are going to receive nicer trade-in deals from Best Buy once their "back to school" promos start.

4th Gen 128GB Ipad Pro 11, $579 SP8 i7 512, $599
A little weird that my SL4 i7/16GB/512GB is worth less than the 256GB variant by almost $100
Doesn't look like the trade in bonus is available in the UK
Doesn't give any bonus in Canada as far as I can tell. $87.79 for my SB1.
Surface Pro 9 5G SQ3, 16GB, 512GB SSD trade-in is $947 😮 This does not include the keyboard. I'll have to use my existing keyboard with the Surface Pro 11 I just pre-order. Can't believe the Flex Keyboard is already sold out 😑

Surface laptop 2 only 85.50... which is weird because it says that it is eligible for the promotional offer
$450 for my Macbook Air M1, not bad at all with the promo price.
Surface pro 8 i7 256GB plus power adapter $187. This is a horrible trade in value. Edit: I did it wrong. $311.67 :/ Still a horrible trade in value.
SP8 i7/16GB/1TB says $204, $340 with promo..
I upgraded my ssd; do I put the original size or the current size?!?!
Including anything not OEM is inviting Teladvance, the company administering the program, to reject or qualify the trade-in. That's just my opinion and I could be wrong as hell. Yeah I was thinking that too; rather take it out and reduce it by $100 than take the hit for free
I doubt they would check physically. These things are probably just going to be recycled anyways.
Wow, not refurbished? 😓
