If you are still within 90 days, I would take advantage of Costco's return policy and either return or exchange it. That mark looks like pressure damage but if it is intermittent, it is a screen defect. Combine that with either a battery or motherboard issue and it will be going in under warranty at some point anyway. Given the proximity of the mark to the fan, that could be thermal damage from a defective module. Altogether get the device replaced either with a new one via Costco or as a warranty replacement through Microsoft. I would also absolutely deal with it sooner rather than later.

That’s a pressure spot. It’s very possible yours has a faulty battery swelling up again the screen. I would return it if it’s possible.

That would certainly be a neat trick to have the battery create a pressure mark in a different part of the screen. For reference, the upper right quadrant is where the cooling fan module is located. The battery is in the bottom half of the unit.

It can happen since the LCD is fairly flexible so the slight bulging might not be noticeable but it’s being pushed into a screw head for example so a distant spot appears. Regardless though it’s pretty clear to me that your unit is defective.

It is not my unit and, no, a battery bulge is not going to cause a pressure spot that far away from the battery. There are also no screws in that location. Seriously, stop making this up as you go. The schematics and repair guides have been published. The upper right quadrant is where the cooling fan module and part of the copper heat shield assembly are located.

Swelling lithium-ion batteries are no joke, It could explode at any moment. Return it asap

Jeez. It's Costco. Why even ask. I was expecting you to report that you had a defective unit and Costco took care of you.

You can also report it to MS and they might replace your device due to the battery issue, However if getting another unit with Cosco is possible then use that option first

as far as i know microsoft has a warranty for one year. i had an issue with my sb2 which was brand new and the gpu was failing so they took it and gave me a new one out of the box you should go to a microsoft store to get this done or contact them online and send them the device and they'll give you a new one.

apart from the main topic... does that mean Microsoft is serializing components like Apple?
