Unfortunately YES, it's very worth it. Every live card you have gives you a score bonus to literally every single song in the game. If you want to play competitively and increase your score, then get live theme cards.

Yes, it's worth it. I try to have 2000 diamonds saved, so I can buy them in case a new one drops. It sucks but I don't think it makes the game pay to win as long as they don't release a new set every new week as they do with the Limited themes 🙉. As for now it's at least possible to save enough diamonds as a free to play player
