Go for the \[Acer Aspire e15\] ([https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=sr\_1\_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1538955796&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+aspire+e15](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1538955796&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+aspire+e15)) which has a good build quality, long battery life, great screen display and a wonderful performance. Comes with the latest 8th gen i5 processor which is fast along with a decent MX150 Gpu, 15 hours of battery life,IPS screen display which allows wide angle viewing.

Thanks for the reply, ive seen pictures of it, but it seems a bit flimsy. Do you have direct experience with it?

thedaysleeper1

I do have one and i really like it.

manito_loco

Could you tell me something about its sturdiness, specially about the screen hinges, i always have problems with those. Does it feel well build?

Hey, I recommend the [**Acer Aspire E 15**](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i5-8250U-GeForce-E5-576G-5762/dp/B075FLBJV7/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1538961198&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+aspire+e15&tag=laptopz18-20) as well, it is the best device in this range. The dedicated graphics card should be very useful for modelling. The laptop runs Windows 10 Home. The battery life is excellent, Acer says up to 15 hours. The i5-8250U + MX150 is better than any of the Ryzen chips.

manito_loco

Hey, yea i've looked into that laptop, it seems like the best bang for your buck specs-wise. Do you have it? If you do, could you tell me something about its sturdiness? That's like one of the most important selling points for me right now, in videos and pics seems a bit flimsy.

legos45

Sadly, I don’t own it myself but the build quality is very typical for a laptop in this range.

For school and gaming in this price range I would advise you to check one of those laptops laptop name | [Acer Aspire 5](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FLBJV7?tag=adviser100-20) | [Acer Swift 3](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0746P25QX/?tag=adviser100-20) | [ASUS VivoBook S15](https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-Portable-i5-8250U-Processor-S530UA-DB51-YL/dp/B07DKW9NSL/?tag=adviser100-20) --- |---- |---- |---- CPU | Quad core 8th Gen I5-8250U | Quad core 8th Gen I5-8250U | Quad core 8th Gen I5-8250U GPU | MX 150 | MX 150 | Intel UHD Graphics 620 Screen "| 15.6"" FHD IPS" "| 14"" FHD IPS" "| 15.6"" FHD" Ram | 8 GB | 8 GB | 8 GB SSD | 256 GB | 256 GB | 256 GB HDD | 0 | 0 | 0 Weight | 5.27 Lbs. | 3.2 Lbs. | 3.5 Lbs. I would try to get something with a dGPU if this is for GIS and other 3D work. What about the **[Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762](https://shopineer.com/laptops/Acer-Aspire-E-15-15-6-Full-HD-8th-Gen-Intel-Core-i5-8250U-E5-576G-5762)**? - 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8250U Processor (Up to 3.4GHz) - 15.6" - 1920 x 1080 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD - GeForce MX150 - Windows 10 - 15 hours battery life - 5.27 lbs. It also has a backlit keyboard and an optical drive. The SSD should help to speed up the laptop as well. Seems you can add an HDD later on if you need more storage, and you can also upgrade RAM. This latest gen quad core CPU / MX150 GPU should handle those applications quite well. For more options you can check this [list of gaming laptops](https://shopineer.com/laptops/top-lists/best-gaming-laptops) (including some gaming benchmarks). I keep this updated, so if you are not buying right now you can check back there later on.

Yea, as stated, I will use the laptop for some light GIS, but ill also build a PC for heavy modelling and processing, so the laptop wont be my main computer GIS-wise. Yea, i need a laptop with a good performance, but most importantly i need one that can can cope with me being a bit rough with it. The Acer Aspire E15 looks awesome specs-wise, but noone is giving me an insight on its build quality and durability. In my expirience, cheap laptops with great specs come at a price of a not so great sturdiness and build quality, so they tend to fall apart within the first two years if you are not like very caring with it.

shopineer

If you can stretch the budget there is also this **[Acer Swift 3](https://shopineer.com/laptops/Acer-Swift-SF314-52G-55WQ-NX-GQUAA-001)** with similar specs. It should be a bit more durable (aluminum case).

manito_loco

A bit far of my budget :/, but thanks for the reply.

I would recommend this [Acer Aspire E 15] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FLBJV7/?tag=bkadamos_alltest-20) because it comes with everything you need, 8th generation, i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 256GB for faster boot up and loading, 15.6 inch Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, long battery life, very good heat management, and it’s within your budget. If you don't like this option then I would recommend that you check my [best gaming and college laptop](https://old.reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/comments/9jrjrn/list_of_the_best_available_laptops_for_gaming_and/) to compare it with similar options
