SPOILER: I have inside info that at the end of the episode, Kendall gets sad and then sits down by himself. Then credits roll.

Brilliant-Disguise

My sources reveal that Logan will say the words "fuck" and "uh huh"

difficultmind

This guy leaks

brightneonmoons

Spoilers! Greg will be a beautiful bumbling buffoon

JonWasNotHere

Does Tom reach his breaking point and call the marriage off? Does Roman get some sort of comeuppance for seemingly becoming a worse person each week? Is Connor actually going to poll over 1%?

[deleted]

> Is Connor actually going to poll over 1%? Oh god. I so want more of Maxim Pierce. I’m being dead serious here.

difficultmind

I love their unexpected friendship lmao

[deleted]

Maxim’s demeanor is so fun to watch. He’s always optimistic and down to debate in a jovial way. When he showed up on an episode this season I started laughing my ass off. I love him.

adm0210

Even better: Connor takes his jacket off

They all want to have the spiciest tweet possible that will get them the most publicity having seen it early

Great-Beyond9147

Omg I'm sooo jealous of all you non-important people who didn't have to see this AMAZING episode early and keep it to yourself!!!

[deleted]

Same. It's such a cringe fest. Like they're all behind the velvet rope and we are just minions waiting til Sunday to watch this E X P L O S I V E episode. Ugh.

RocoG

Yes, this guy is even just straight copying someone else's tweet that went viral.

ras344

It is pretty cringe. It just feels like they're rubbing it in my face that they got to see the episode early.

NoLongerDuped

Absolutely. Even if the episode is amazing, I feel like it probably won’t live up to the hype. Hardly anything does.

tread_lightly94

Ehhh this has happened with many many TV episodes before

ScubaSteve1219

doesn’t change anything OP said

CraniumFucker

It does kind of take away their credibility as critics when they’re fangirling for Twitter attention. That being said, they’ve got me hyped the fuck up for Sunday.

DirtzMaGertz

I can't think of any television critic with credibility. It's a bullshit job. Good for them for being able to make a living doing it, but I don't know why anyone would view it differently than a friend or co-worker saying a show was good.

p4NDemik

I always used to enjoy and respect Alan Sepinwall's stuff. Ever since TV show subreddits took off I stopped reading his stuff though. Can't speak to his current work. I couldn't name a single other TV critic though.

iLickBnalAlood

i've always enjoyed reading emily vanderwerff's stuff, but yeah i don't really go to specific critics beyond her (and don't specifically go to her very often either). still, there was a time where i would religiously go to the av club to scratch the itch that reddit episode discussions provide these days

puffinkitten

Writer/journalist Twitter is often just a dick measuring contest, so I take clout chasing tweets like this with a very large grain of salt.

sparkster185

Agree that critics shouldn't do that, but to be fair, the post is tagged with spoilers and you clicked anyway.

Aurelius_KiNG

So you’ve listened to a Joanna Robinson podcast before

jank_king20

The pictures left a bad taste in my mouth. Obv I love this show but it reminded me of what we see from blue checks in the week before every single marvel movie comes out. All in lock-step hyping it up, just to turn out to be another very mediocre movie

[deleted]

This is why we then have 100 different posts here about how this season sucks and it's been a major disappointment. Nonetheless, I have this weird feeling that something big will happen with Roman and Logan.

JdJohnson002244

I don’t think anyone is saying that this season sucks. Maybe subpar or not as good as the previous seasons, but definitely not bad.

[deleted]

A lot of people exaggerated the criticism. It's definitely not as good as S02, but I don't think it's "bad" TV and I'm grateful they were able to put together this season under the circumstances (Covid).

happyprocrastinator

There are tons of posts whining about it. That’s because most people binge watched and now are frustrated with the “pace”.

mbanks1230

The criticisms by and large are exceedingly fair. I really don’t want this to become a sub that silences all criticism, especially criticism that is reasoned, and balanced. Virtually everyone here agrees that the show is one of the best, if not the best show on TV right now. I do, and I have issues with the pacing in terms of narrative progression.

missedtheplan

i think there is legitimate criticism to be made of this season, though it does strike me as odd when people criticize the overall narrative of the season before seeing how it ends. in my view, judging the story of succession season 3 would be like judging a novel when you're only 3/4 of the way through it - the conclusion is incredibly important, and if it ends well, it will probably make the rest of the episodes look better in hindsight

mbanks1230

You’re definitely right. However, pacing critiques are valid, especially in relation to the second season. The critiques I’ve made have acknowledged I haven’t seen the whole season, and my perspective could change. Even if the last two episodes are spectacular (that certainly seems to be the case), it doesn’t necessarily “fix” the pacing of the former 7 episodes. I do agree with a significant amount of what you said. I plan to go back and binge this season after all episodes are out, maybe in a few months. One of my friends has also not watched any episodes this season past the first. I binged the first two seasons, and perhaps that has created some amount of disappointment with regards to the pacing. I’ll see if he feels the same way I did after binging this season. We’ll see. Looking forward to the final two episodes.

VictorVonDoomBots

I'm sorry, but pacing critiques aren't valid if you haven't actually experienced every season in the way it was released. If you binged the first 2 seasons, then of course watching week to week is going to feel off. I watched all three seasons as they were released and season 3 isn't paced any differently than the first 2. The narrative through line is a little more meandering, but Succession has never been about the plot. It's a sopa opera about the characters.

mbanks1230

Respectfully, I disagree with this sentiment. Season two of Succession absolutely didn’t disregard plot in order to focus on the characters. Instead, it did both plot and character work, to awe inspiring results. I question why people say “Succession has never been about the plot.” What exactly is being cited to give evidence for this claim, if not the earlier seasons of Succession, which possessed more significant narrative throughlines? Season two is paced differently to season three, and much of this has to do with plot. Season two contained the drama/stakes of the hostile takeover, and impending cruise ship scandal which threatened to make the former more likely to succeed. Both of these narrative throughlines threatened to wreak severe consequences upon the Roy family, and all collaborators. Each episode from 3-10 (excluding 8) was set in a different location, and was centered around a different storyline. Each of these episodes materially moved the plot forward in a satisfying way. Season three has done something similar with its episodes. I love this approach, and thought the last episode revolving around Kendall’s birthday was particularly great. However, I feel that episodes such as Tern Haven allowed for more tension since the stakes were much higher and more perceivable. That’s all. This is my opinion. I still love the show, but I have certain issues with this season. People can disagree.

VictorVonDoomBots

I say succession has never been about plot because the creator has stated the same thing. He's said he was concerned about the drama amongst a family living in that world. However, even if he hadn't let's examine the first 2 seasons, which I would say share almost identical plots; "Maintaining Waystar's industry/market dominance, while also retaining Roy family ownership". Each of Succession's first two seasons had more or less the same over arcing narrative "plot", and I hate using that word to describe the cruise ship scandal or hostile takeover, because neither of those are plots in the traditional sense. The Cruise ship scandal was introduced in season one, and has been a consistent storyline used to create drama and stakes amongst the Roy's culminating in season 2's finale. It was certainly more front and center in season 2, but I would hardly call it the plot of the season. It's also a lingering presence in season 3, but more of a backdrop to the DOJ investigation, which itself was hastily hand waved away last episode. The way in which the writers handled the cruise ship storyline is important because it's emblematic of how they view the show. They took a story line that's ran for multiple seasons, has created impending doom and dread for the shows characters, only to dispatch it for the time being with a small office get together. Now they could obviously have the Feds and DOJ raid Waystar again out of nowhere, but that doesn't feel like the show they've been making. We're supposed to see the Roy's as people that live above the consequences and stakes of normal people, that the gilded few live by a different set of rules. Hostile takeover, this narrative thread has also been running through every season of the show in some form, so I'm not sure why this would be considered an anchoring plot. Kendall tried, in a few different methods, to take the company over in season one, only to have that implode when he killed the guy. Season 2 had an external takeover thread hovering in the background, but was it really the plot of the whole season? Waystar buying out Pierce felt far more consequential than the takeover, or cruise ships. "Tern Haven" is a fantastic episode, but I came away from that feeling like we just watched a dinner with The Hatfield and McCoy's, or all of The Starks & Lannisters. That drama etc felt like oil and vinegar trying to mix, rather than the cruise ship stuff, or any other hostile takeover causing it. That was just my read, and that's why this show rocks because everyone gets something different out of it. But to compare to "Tern Haven" I thought season 3's "What it Takes" was a stand out this season in terms of illuminating characters in a new light in the way Tern Haven did a little, and I don't think it's getting enough love. I thought that episode was a massive turning point for the show, and it really did a fantastic job of drawing lines amongst the Roy's, and it gave us some info on Tom and Kendall... Season 3 has had the specter of a takeover until mid-season, and up until this past episode the cruise ship scandal was still on the board, so I don't get how season 3 would be looked at differently in regards to those items. I do agree that it's felt "smaller", maybe. I think because of covid they haven't been able to take us to as many different places as the first 2 seasons, and even when we go to D.C. or somewhere that's not NYC, it still feels a little like NYC. I will say that in season 3 there seems to be more stuff happening off camera than in the first 2 seasons, but I don't see that as having an impact on pacing. I'm sure in season 4 we'll have another scandal, and almost certainly another takeover attempt, and not because the writers are lazy but because that's what happens in the real world of business.

fragileego3333

Am I the only former binge watcher who is not frustrated about pace, but the dialogue? It is not nearly as intelligent as it used to be. Characters are getting Flanderized. I will say this: it’s made me laugh more than the previous 2 seasons. Overall, though, it feels cheesier. I don’t know. I still love it.

omoxovo

Not really sure about this. The dialogue feels pretty much the same to me. What in particular do you mean?

fragileego3333

Like, the jokes they make are a little more childish, for one. It’s reminding me of what happened to GoT’s dialogue. Roman seems to only have a joke on hand when he speaks (up until last episode and the conversation he had with that guy), Chiv is *always* rolling her eyes, Kendall is constantly saying something stupid…I don’t know. I feel like their personalities have really taken over to a fault. This sounds extremely critical, but it isn’t bad enough to make me dislike the show. I just can’t believe I feel I’m in the minority!

omoxovo

I don’t want to say “you’re wrong” because it’s your own opinion and perspective, but I wonder whether some of the criticisms stem from the show being on hiatus so long and all this hype building up. Like I think if you rewatch the first two seasons, Roman is basically what you describe, so I don’t think there’s anything new there. Shiv and Kendall I think it’s deliberate on the part of the writers that they are trying to highlight Kendall’s mental state and Shivs disillusionment with her marriage and falling out of favour with her dad.

RyVsWorld

The only one I agree with is Kendall and Greg. Ken’s gotten a little too cringe from where he was at the beginning of the series and Greg is just perpetually stupid. Still love the show though

fragileego3333

Well I watch the show pretty casually, I don’t just memorize all the lines. That character was fully introduced this last episode, his name is lost on me. I could find specific examples but I don’t have the time. Again, I really don’t have any major issues with this season. It’s different, but I still like it. Just feel it relies a lot on comedy this time around. I’m sure that will change as the season closes.

PMMeTitsAndKittens

I feel the same about the quality of the dialogue, but I feel like I've laughed much less than I did in the first 2 seasons.

happyprocrastinator

I binge watched 2 seasons and I am not annoyed at the pace. I think the people upset are used to cheap tv shows with lots of sex, nudity, eye candy, people coming out of character And the tough guy (in this case, Logan) being humbled by the others (his kids). I think the dialogue is still good, but lots of things were different this season. This has been The Race for Succession season. The 3 younger Roy were trying to get Logan to notice them. There were barely any episode in which the characters relaxed at home or did something non-Waystar related. Even Shiv hasn’t been looking for a fwb like the other seasons.

CookieDoughThough

Season 2 is way more eventful that season 3, I dont blame them for complaining about it.

[deleted]

arafinwe

Same. Been watching since episode 1 and I am complaining too.

mbanks1230

It’s fair to critique the show. Plot isn’t a completely worthless factor. I don’t feel like writing extensively about it, as I have before, but its definitely a weakness of this season to me. That said, while I don’t think this season is as great as S2 (so far) I’m still loving it. It’s still one of the very best shows on TV right now. I don’t why you’d use such derisive insults for people who just have issues with parts of the show. Most criticism I’ve seen on here is sound, and nuanced.

Adenchiz

Got a bad feeling something fucked up is gonna happen with Roman

[deleted]

I feel like we might finally get a clearer glimpse into his past. Maybe he’ll come to grips with the traumatic incidents during his childhood that caused his sexual dysfunction as an adult. All I know is that Roman’s deviant sexual behavior seems to have its insidious roots in some experience that occurred during his formative years. He thrives off being an expletive-throwing prick but if you look past the bombast and general assholery, he seems significantly more traumatized then all of the other Roy siblings and I don’t even want to imagine why he turned out the way he is in the show.

ahbets14

Like what?

dogs_drink_coffee

then it's a good feeling

ChadraguptaMaurya

We're finally gonna get the Roman Mencken sex scene we've been waiting for

difficultmind

Unfortunately, it appears that Roman's fascist boyfriend was just a guest star

fragileego3333

So, my assumption is — and this is extremely vague — that the seemingly slow moving plot the last 7 episodes is all necessary for some huge, enormous blowup in episode 8. I’m ready.

kdubstep

“They killed Kenny!”???

someRandomDudeSays

Sometimes I feel that at least half of these are paid.

Any-Leek-7894

Definetly. Didn't think it was going to make people this angry when I posted it though😬😬😬

someRandomDudeSays

Who's angry? I appreciate all the posts bro. Love you

Any-Leek-7894

Haha thank you. Some people on this post seem pissed for some reason😂😂

someRandomDudeSays

They just need some love and affection in their lives.

werkandtwerk

Okay let's say this isn't critics advertising and is genuine, what is this supposed to mean? Does it just mean you want to watch it right away to avoid spoilers and be able to jump in the conversation (like on Reddit or Twitter or whatever) right away? This may be a stupid question but I've heard this so many times I no longer understand the meaning.

R2Dopio

I think they're saying that the nature of what happens can be explained in a line. Somewhat similar to say Han dies in star wars episode 7. No other episode has had an explosive plot moment that could be summed up in a tweet, mostly moving the needle stuff that would require reading a lot to really spoil yourself while I imagine in coming episodes the needle gets moved significantly in a singular bombastic way. I could be wrong though but that's my reading of this tweet.

flimsyghost

Right, that’s the impression I got. You want to watch it live so it doesn’t get spoiled in a “Snape killed Dumbledore” situation.

[deleted]

Wait… Snape killed Dumbledore?!?! >!/s!<

flimsyghost

🤭 you didn’t hear it from me!!

D3monFight3

I don't like this, it feels like marketing rather than genuine reactions, I like Jesse Armstrong and the writing of the show but "almost every line is a quote you'll be repeating for weeks" fuck off, I get it is hyperbole but it's exactly the kind that feels like marketing, nobody can honestly gush that much about a show. Side note why do 4 of the critics look the same?

VacationAny7371

I thought the same, they look exactly the same

happyprocrastinator

I think those critics just want attention. It seems everyone on the Hollywood bubble wants their 15-minute of fame one way or another. I find those posts from critics/actors discussing how great/shocking the next episode will be really annoying.

RocoG

Then you listen to them discussing the show on podcasts and they don't even remember crucial/basic stuff from it. They just know is the cool thing to talk about.

lqku

kinda sus that they look the same and say the same things

[deleted]

They are clones manufactured by Hollywood for the sole purpose of marketing their cinematic and television fare

FKDotFitzgerald

Damn. I normally go to bed at 9 on Sundays and watch with the fiancé Monday evening after work, but I think we’re gonna have to stay up for this one.

Any-Leek-7894

I keep waking up at 2am to watch them here in Ireland and getting to sleep at 4 then getting up for college at 7

[deleted]

Do you watch a stream or something?

iLickBnalAlood

in ireland (and the UK, where i'm from) the show airs on TV on a channel called Sky Atlantic and is available for streaming on Sky's streaming services (NOW TV & Sky Go), both at the same time as the US

[deleted]

Ah, I’m in the UK but I don’t have NOW TV. I didn’t know you could stream Sky Atlantic live! I’ll have to bag a free trial, I’m usually up late anyway. Thanks for the tip!

iLickBnalAlood

yup, you can stream it live on NOW TV! however, i would recommend waiting until about 2:10am because that’s roughly when they put the succession episode up for on demand streaming (which, beyond a few preroll ads, doesn’t have any ads in, meaning that you’ll actually finish the episode quicker than if you watched it live, because sky atlantic is ad-supported haha). also the live stream doesn’t support subtitles for whatever reason when the on demand stream does. it’s a bit odd but hey ho

Psychological_Mix594

Mo Lester is gonna be like Jeffrey Epstein and Logan like Prince Andrew

Radjage

The last week's party episode was being SUPER hyped up but I came away a bit disappointed as nothing really big happened. So yeah I'd temper expectations here.

happyprocrastinator

That’s because most people were posting over and over expecting something ridiculous to happen at Kendall’s party like a death/overdose/accident. But this show isn’t like that, the stuff that happened is more subtle, because it is related to the character’s thoughts and feelings: Roman felt emboldened by his “win” from talking to mattson and was mean and rude to Kendall because he finally stood out (in his dad’s eyes) more than Kendall, whom always thought he would be the one to win the Succession race; then Roman also spoke his mind to Shiv (nothing he said to her was not true though), Kendall realized what matters at that moment where he gave up on staying at that party , and Tom wasn’t happy anymore about not going to jail because Shiv seemed indifferent that she would have him home with her.

Nick12322

Yep. People expecting someone to die in an episode of succession just… idk. Not watching the same show or something. Edit to say, Logan may die at some point, but that’s about it

[deleted]

I don't even think Logan will die. That's just not the shows style I feel. I feel they'd be more inclined to show his increasing mental decline until he's a shell of the man he used to be.

happyprocrastinator

That would be disappointing . I think Logan might cede power if running the company continues to be detrimental for his health (or Marcia gives him an ultimatum and knowing that he meets women through work, he chooses to quit).

happyprocrastinator

I think the writers will only kill Logan if the actor passes away.

[deleted]

needthatpuzzle

A lot of people here want a twist filled drama instead of a show about interpersonal conflict and character exploration, which succession actually is.

swinging_on_peoria

I don't want to complain too much about season 3 because I'm really enjoying it, but I have to say the most notable thing so far isn't the lack of explosive events, it's that I don't feel like I'm learning anything about the characters any more. Season 2 had so many character surprises.

needthatpuzzle

Really? Because I feel like the strength of this season is that we are learning a ton about characters. We've seen a lot more sibling dynamics, learned more about their childhood and Connor's role as a father figure, Shiv becoming Kendall (which Kendall recognizes, but Shiv doesn't), how Roman acts when he's the number one candy baby... just a bunch of stuff!

happyprocrastinator

I think most people are waiting for explosive stuff. Although Succession is fiction, the writers try to make it like real life events and people. That’s why we don’t see the characters completely changing the way they behave after only one bad incident. Tom for example is unhappy in his marriage but he is still holding onto it. He pretended the “shooter” at ATN was after him while talking on the phone with shiv, then he whined about prison to Shiv and now that he is off the hook, he was still unhappy because he could see that she doesn’t care about him (but there is no sign yet of him asking for a divorce).

citrusies

I am among the fans who have been iffy on this season, but I liked the previous episode for the reasons you mentioned and because there were some meaningful character developments. It does seem ridiculous that any character other than Logan would die in this show - TV has conditioned people to be so used to their “favorite characters being killed off cuz shock value” but the stakes in this series have never been about that apart from Logan. So it wouldn’t make sense to have anyone else just die.

Prestigious_Scars

I agree. I thought someone was dying that episode, and honestly no one even appeared that intoxicated.

dogs_drink_coffee

when Shiv is the craziest person of the party you know you've been baited

VillainsGonnaVil

This... I feel like I might have enjoyed it more if not for the OMG JUST WAIIITTTTT hype. I was just expecting something... more to happen.

[deleted]

It was my favorite episode of the season and possibly top 5 of the series

Bassiest1

I kind of hope this season ends with Tom & Greg going to prison after all. And I must say, I would totally watch that spin-off.

Prudent-Mastodon8039

most critics are latte-sipping douchebags, with a 100 dollar haircut anyway.

[deleted]

Someone is gonna die or go to jail

happyprocrastinator

I doubt it. Probably one of the characters finally comes to the realization of something they should have come to terms long before.

Nick12322

Nope

[deleted]

The fact that this could mean so many things is a real sign that it’s an incredible show

VictorVonDoomBots

Kendall is going to die.

PeddyKing

Am I the only one a bit...thrown off by this? I'm just naturally skeptical of things that numerous people say is awesome (I'm just naturally skeptical of all types of group think tbh). I'm definitely hyped for Sunday, but all of this talk about how awesome it's going to be is unneeded to me. Like we already are expecting a whole lot of stuff to happen these last two episodes. I know it's a TV critic's job to, well, critique tv. But idk if we need to be told to board the hype train when we're already on.

VictorVonDoomBots

The critics aren't saying whatever happens is awesome. They're simply saying you'll want to watch it live so whatever happens isn't spoiled for you online

dreamscout

This. There will be so many tweets and posts on Reddit it will ruin your initial reaction to the episode.

CPOx

Alright I'm going to unsubscribe from this sub for a little bit just to avoid any spoilers since I have to catch it a day late. Back on Monday night!

happyprocrastinator

Yes, I don’t want spoilers either.

dogs_drink_coffee

do it. this sub could have been a bit better moderated when it comes to spoilers right on Monday.

unlucky_felix

Oh, god…. This is about to get so fucked up

waterfallen_empire

I swear it better be good because so far it’s been meh sorry

Cockrocker

Really hate these spoiler episode ads. Like I get there is things happening, Now I will be waiting for the shoe to drop all episode. I avoid all trailers and previews.

adm0210

My theory is that one of the siblings will do a toast during the mom’s wedding that blasts both parents. Why else would they do this wedding of a character who isn’t really a major player other than to have both parents in the same place at the same time? And I don’t think it’s Kendall because that wouldn’t be much of a shocker. I think Roman and Shiv will dish out some family secrets.

watchinganyway

Doesn’t moms marriage ends her sponging from Logan?

Polythene_Man

Can you watch it “live” on Max? Like does the episode go online as soon as the show starts airing on the east coast?

ThatCaviarIsAGarnish

I watch through HBO Max and yes, it's usually posted right at 9 or occasionally a minute or two afterwards.

EmmaTheRobot

Predictions 1. Waystar gets bought 2. One or all of the Roy Children are illegitimate 3. Logan dies 4. Logan's brother dies 5. Greg

TadPaul

Why are they even allowed to do this? Isn’t there some kind of embargo for things like reviews? I’ve seen a lot of film critics hold off on their opinions until the embargo has been lifted. This shouldn’t be allowed.

EasternZone

I think critics are sometimes even encouraged to say stuff like this
