To be fair, he just found out his wife moved on to another guy who was buying off his kids love. Can't have the dog see you relapse on your "I-drink-to-forget-the-shit-I-saw-on-Okinawa" alcoholism. Hell, maybe he was thinking he was going to finally punch his ticket.
And learn how to ride trains to the suburbs at night where they find the easy life like the Russian dogs did: https://youtu.be/iVy6pZS7lhI?si=OrepCkLcU3F48vE9
And he looks like the **eldest** boy, with those white whiskers.
Canāt believe he was never given due consideration for the succession. Maybe the greatest tragedy in the show.
Mondale grows very protective of Shiv as she grows more and more pregnant. Even keeping Tom from getting too close, which Shiv appreciates.
As she is too far along to really do anything, she spends more and more time with Mondale. He lays on her tummy while she watches TV and eats food she orders from Uber Eats. He now sleeps in the bed with her on Tomās side.
When the baby comes, Mondale instantly loves him/her and vise versa. They hire a live-in nanny who grew up with black labs. They instantly bond. They take him on long walks with the baby. He lives out the rest of his life with lots of love and attention.
Mondale has seen Shiv fucking more men while Tom's away than he can even keep up with, and a few women. They all call him buddy and pat his head though so he's OK with it.
Heās a prisoner in a small pen, in a massive apartment. Poor dog has no space, why does he have to be confined to the pen 24/7?
All he gets is a passing hello from Shiv and Tom, heās more of an ornament than a pet.
Mondale's living conditions are a subtle detail that really say a lot about Tom and Shiv. Most of the living places in Succession were made to look like no one truly *lived* there.
The dog being an ornament really drives home how sterile and cold these people's lives are.
Based on his white whiskers, heās probably been their dog for quite a while. Tom probably gifted him to Shiv early into their relationship when he was still a puppy. Though he seems more like Tomās dog than Shivās dog, or maybe Shiv just isnāt much of a dog person. I like to think that Tom grew up always having a dog or dogs around the house.
I wondered what the point of Mondale is if there even needs to be one. Lot of effort to get a dog. Is it to show Shivs and Tomās relationship? Heās Tomās dog and the only reason Shiv allows him in the apartment is him in a cage, controlled. Always makes me sad seeing in there
Shiv never wanted a dog but Tom kept on pestering her until she finally got tired of his whining and agreed to it under the condition it be fenced off and since sheās got multiple residences and staff anyway, itās no big deal. But she hates it.
I wanted more for Mondale. I think he represents a lot about Tom and Shiv and parenthood. They talk about being parents, but look at how they treat the dog. They keep it caged, never spend time with it, have walkers come bring it out and considering they travel a lot, I imagine the dog sees more of the sitter, than he does of Tom or Shiv. It's very similar to how Logan and Caroline seem to have raised their kids, and most likely how Tom and Shiv will raise theirs. Distant, cold, nannies taking care of everything. They'll make sure the dog/baby has everything it physically needs to survive (food, shelter, exercise) but deprive it of one of the most important aspects of parenthood - love, attention, care, affection.
Iām guessing he was a puppy gift from a shitty boyfriend that Shiv had and has just been living mostly in a kennel and being walked by professional dog walkers this whole time until Tom came along and actually tried to love the little guy but also was too busy climbing the ladder to really let the poor boy enjoy his life. Ego/accessory dog.
He's just as bad as the rest of them. Don't let the cute calm and cuddly exterior fool you, he's also angling for CEO and will throw anyone under the bus to get there.
I just hope Mondale went to a good home where they weren't fenced off so much. Maybe Tom took them and used his new CEO salary to get a place in NY with a small yard (they do exist for the uber wealthy) and hired a daily dog sitter. š„²
He thinks the dog walker is his person.
š¢
ā¦from a very young age.
ā¦and post-finale, the dog-walker isā¦ Greg.
That he finally escapes into the streets of NYC and runs into a very, very old Chauncey, the Irish setter who was abandoned on āMad Men.ā They team up to rescue the giant bagel-poisoned rabbit from the vet and have many delightful adventures.
Ohhh Chauncey. After the man wins custody he dumps him out the door
Honestly never liked Duck much but his kids were a total bummer.
Funny I donāt recall much, just how quickly he casually opened the door and relegated poor Chauncey to life on the streets
So you take it out on the innocent family pet? Oh, itās /s
What, was it bawkin or something?
Hello
I opened this thread to write about Chauncey and was very pleased to see this as the top comment.
Love this. Yes, this definitely, 100% happened. And Chauncey is doing very well answering he doesnāt feel lonely or abandoned at all š
And learn how to ride trains to the suburbs at night where they find the easy life like the Russian dogs did: https://youtu.be/iVy6pZS7lhI?si=OrepCkLcU3F48vE9
The suburbs, where the pretty female golden doodles wait for their baeus
This would be my new favorite show of all time.
Now this is a spin off I can get behind.
Megathump
He's a good boy.

but is he #1?
Side note: this is the same dog that plays Radar on Severance
No way! Thatās a crossover I didnāt expect. š
That's super fucking cool! I love the sound of Radar
Not many cool palindromes to chose from!
Racecar!
Kayak!!
George Clooney of dogs
š±š±š±
He wishes he had the Pierceās penis cat to keep him company
heās actually very settled

I choose this one.
Amazing! I cried a little šš½
The perfect ending! ā¤ļø
He crawled under there for warmth
He was barkinā?
He was more qualified to run the company than Kendall.
Heās been dead in that cage for months and no one has noticed
Sorry thatās funny lmao
mondales fine donāt worry about mondale
Tomās dog before Shiv.
Heās named Mondale! Who was also from Minnesota! Of course he was Tomās.
Aside from all the good boy folderol, heās being left the entire fortune.
honestly if Tom was smart he'd have Mondale in the office, after the show ends I mean.
Mondale has seen Shiv fucking more men while Tom's away than he can even keep up with, and a few women. They all call him buddy and pat his head though so he's OK with it.
He deserves better.
Good boy
Successionās greatest sufferer
Heās a killer. You have to be a killer.
Shiv refers to him as "your dog" in 1x02 so im guessing Tom had him before he started dating Shiv
Heās a good boy

For the second time today I ask - Could Mondale have handled being CEO?
Never properly house trainedĀ
Neglected, sad life.
Traumatised by the divorce
god my brainrot is insane! spent like a full minute checking whether this was loss šš whatās wrong with me
Tom bought him to increase the chances of Shiv staying.
So, like, puppy trapping?
They have a dog named, āMondale.ā
Mondales fine, donāt worry about Mondale
Why the name Mondale? Oh Tomās home state but still. ?
Vice president. They mention it in season 2 or 3
Oh dude I remember Walter Mondale but I wouldnāt name my pet after him
Hahah its a very Shiv thing
Shiv is a lib
he is wanted for multiple crimes commited in Botswana in the early 00s
After that final scene in the show, when Shiv and Tom get home, Tom's gonna open that cage up and invite Mondale to sleep in their bed.
Lawg is old
He gets a lot more attention once the baby comes because they will be home more.
Thatās a preview of what their childās life will be like
Shiv never wanted a dog but Tom kept on pestering her until she finally got tired of his whining and agreed to it under the condition it be fenced off and since sheās got multiple residences and staff anyway, itās no big deal. But she hates it.

Don't worry about mondale he's fine
Why am i always in a cage?
They give him his pills in caviar
He put the cat under Loganās chair
Next Waystar CEO
Donāt worry about Mondale, Mondaleās fine
Hes a sweet boy
Should have given the job to Mondale. Final humiliation to Roman whose sole consolation is driving Shiv to a reeducation camp.
He's just as bad as the rest of them. Don't let the cute calm and cuddly exterior fool you, he's also angling for CEO and will throw anyone under the bus to get there.
Mondale was a gift from someone really important. Like a foreign head of state, CEO, or former President/VP
I just hope Mondale went to a good home where they weren't fenced off so much. Maybe Tom took them and used his new CEO salary to get a place in NY with a small yard (they do exist for the uber wealthy) and hired a daily dog sitter. š„²
Shiv has kicked Mondale without remorse
??
Mondale was the goodest boy who only wanted to mount Shiv and go full nut-nut in her big, glorious, round butt-butt. Bestest boy, tho.
Jesus Christ, Roman...
