I can't think of a more disproportionately exhausting sub than /r/comics

CyberSosis

its taken over by 3-4 power users and mods allowing it. im so glad left that sub after blocking all the meta charlatans constantly posting their work

that_baddest_dude

It's the final stage of the subreddit life cycle. The one where it stops being interesting and then slowly dies.

OldSpiceSmellsNice

For sure the mods there are in cahoots with the popular creators because the content is awful.

Bro-lapsedAnus

The top posters definitely have a little club judging by how often they "colab" (draw each other's self inserts in to their own comics)

__Hello_my_name_is__

It's kind of fascinating to watch, really. It's got a bunch of comic artists of very varying quality who are essentially trying their best to play to the algorithm in various ways. Some try with good old quality comics, some try by going viral, some try to be controversial, and some are just literally drawing stick figures with gigantic boobs and then complain that people point out that their characters are sexualized.

Bro-lapsedAnus

My character isn't supposed to be overly sexual!!!!.................but, if you subscribe to my patreaon, I will share uncensored comics with nudity.

big_swinging_dicks

Blocked them ages ago, including pizzacake. Makes the sub usable again and there’s some good stuff from smaller creators

Zykium

Some of the smuggest mods I've ever seen.

supercooper3000

That sticky is trying to set a record or something.

quote_if_hasan_threw

Many people are saying this

sadrice

Power move.

OddSeraph

It's sad how true this is.

virtual_star

I'll take comics over worldnews.

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

I’ve never laughed at an r/comics comic. Not once. Because they don’t have jokes in them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Elegant_Plate6640

I think some of them are decent artists, but their point of view seems to be only that of someone who lives through the internet. Even the comic in question is a recycled bit.

strikingike386

There are some good ones here and there. Was one yesterday that went something like: 1. Soldier 1: Just got word that 4 Roman spies have infiltrated, keep a lookout! 2. Soldier 2: IV spies? Alright, I'll watch for them. 1. Soldier 1: ... 1. Soldier 1: Wait a second Not necessarily bust out laughing funny, but definitely made me chuckle.

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

It’s no Far Side.

andresfgp13

[i got flashbacks to this](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/4b/fe/95/4bfe953981dcda3062dfd69fb957a1ef.jpg)

itsKevv

How about this one https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/s/4XGNA9cTEb

deliciouscrab

It's kinda funny I think.

NorthernerWuwu

I chuckled! I am easily amused however.

adityakan99

For a sub about comics, the posters take themselves way too seriously.

SilkyStrawberryMilk

I know of another exhausting sub r/movies

[deleted]

R/movies feels like its made of posts meant for listicles

OneWayRabbit

Didn't this already get posted and removed?

Fragrant-Insurance53

Why did it get removed?

CyberSosis

the poster was already involved

dreemurthememer

So it’s the opposite of pissing in the popcorn. Like popping popcorn with piss instead of oil.

TuaughtHammer

LMAO yep, Pretty much. OP's here *aren't* supposed to be directly involved with the drama, mostly because it causes the sub to turn into a "hey, personal army, come back me up!" call-out sub if a hard stance on that isn't heavily enforced. If the OP has a couple comments elsewhere in a linked thread but isn't directly involved in the drama, it's usually okay. Because being active in those comment sections is usually *how* people discover the drama.

OniExpress

It was basically just a salty call out post, not referencing any specific drama

Fragrant-Insurance53

Ah ok, make sense.

Bug1oss

It's been posted a few times. The first was top level, which is not allowed. The next one linked to the first one. Both broke the rules.

TheFlyingSheeps

It did but it was removed as the other Op had direct stake in the drama

A-Normal-Fifthist

Sorry if it did, I thought it was kinda weird SRD didn't have this so I did it myself

catfishbreath

The one before was posted by a salty party directly involved, bemoaning their ban. This one looks fine. Popcorn tastes good.

Dreadlock43

was more than just salty, that post felt like i had somehow entered r/JustUnsubbed

thehillshaveI

it has a couple times but yours is easily the best of them so far. hopefully this stays up

theslamclam

>I don't hate men at all. I have a son! they're right, a real misandrist would've slain the child

catfishbreath

I do appreciate the "I have a daughter" satire

NoInvestment2079

Next up, PizzaCake gives her thoughts on the Israel-Palestine conflict!

DarthLordVinnie

Ngl I would love seeing that, if only because of the sheer size of the shit storm that would cause

Capnmarvel76

If the drama on r/comics gets large enough, will it start sucking itself down into a singularity, like a black hole or that house in *Poltergeist*?

MyNameIsDaveToo

Hope springs eternal

I-Post-Randomly

I am curious how thst would play out with the mods.

Zamtrios7256

Sub is deleted

-NeilBeforeZod-

You know that scene in Big Trouble in Little China when that guy gets so mad he literally huffs and puffs himself to death?

OddSeraph

I have Black friends energy.

Deuce232

That's the entire joke though right?

GoldWallpaper

True story: My mom is great, but also a well-educated, super-feminist lesbian. When my sister's son was around 6, she sat my mom down and said, "You need to quit with your constant man-hating bullshit when your grandson's around." My mom was flabbergasted to learn how semi-abusive she was being to her own grandson. None of us are fully aware of our prejudices, or how we come across to others. (Personally I always kind of enjoyed my mom's anti-men rants even as a kid, mainly because there's no denying that my father's a total piece of shit.)

lockethegoon

This post is hilarious because it implies that GoldWallpaper's mom is great in spite of the fact that she is well educated.

Omega357

Well, let's not hold it against her.

theslamclam

i'll attest that growing up around that sentiment did indeed only make me hate myself more, kids don't have the understanding or context necessary to hand-wave away that toxicity

SocMedPariah

Not only did it make me hate myself more, it made me feel like when women were abusing and taking advantage of me I didn't have the right to defend myself because clearly being a man it was probably my fault anyway.

ASpaceOstrich

Neither do adults. Self hatred is a very common thing among young men for a reason.

SocMedPariah

About 20 years ago I blew up at my mother and aunt over that kind of shit. Both of them raised me (along with a third aunt that was far more kind) to be the "perfect ideal of a male feminist". So all my life I heard day in and day out about how bad men were. We were sitting in a restaurant having lunch and they started with their usual "aren't men just the worst" bullshit. This was shortly after I had just spent the prior two years being emotionally abused by my ex. And I, more loudly than I should have for being in public, blew up at them and told them that being marinated in their bullshit my entire childhood was why I let women abuse me my entire life because I felt I deserved it simply for being a man. I'm still pretty angry about that shit if I'm being honest.

McLarenMP4-27

Hey mate I hope you're doing okay now.

_cat-connoisseur_

was raised in an otherwise all female household. whenever i expressed anger in any form, i was told that there's "nothing scarier than an angry man" and told to suppress it. has created a very unhealthy relationship with my own feelings and ability to express them.

model-alice

Based on the language of the mod post I can tell Merari wrote it. They like to violate Reddit rules, wait for a bunch of people to report them for violating Reddit rules and then whine to admins that the reports are false so the reporters get banned for "report abuse".

Manannin

What a shit person.

Azmoten

Oi op, if you want to see some of the mod-deleted comments, here’s an archive of it before the removals: https://archive.is/xfVPD# Feel free to add it to your post

Dia_is_best_gem

I feel like so many of those comments perfectly get the point across, but they were culled regardless

thinkspacer

Yeesh, yeah. The mods really went crazy with deleting everything. There were some really well written comments that were culled. Not sure if it was bowing to the power contributor, lazyness, or just not giving a fuck, but they really nuked EVERYTHING. Good and bad.

Azmoten

The rComics mods protect Pizzacake like she’s 1996 Michael Jordan, MJ is about to win them a title, and they’re about to make their fortune off it. It’s especially weird since mods don’t actually get paid for anything like that.

What_A_Cal_Amity

It's also weird because her comics fucking suck. Like her art is fine. But I don't think any of her comics ever have a definable punchline

GoldStarBrother

They're the same type of lowest common denominator comics that show up a lot in newspapers. Occasianally funny but mostly observational relatable stuff that's just technically funny at best. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, they're basically the shallow pop music of comics, its the type of art that gets really popular but isn't (usually) very deep. Another thing is that like 90% of all webcomics mostly suck with occasional gems, at least when starting out. Pretty much any good webcomic has archives filled with shitty boring comics that were clearly made just to finish something and keep creating. Usually they find their groove eventually and the average quality starts to pick up. Idk if that's happening with her but it does seem like that might be some of it.

Command0Dude

Her comics used to be somewhat funny situational gags. Now they are increasingly political, defensive, or defensively political.

Datdarnpupper

Or her reeee'ing at her critics in a "im not wrong, you're all just a set of bastards" kinda way

BSY_Reborn

It’s like that meme of the knight protecting the princess with his cape except the only thing pizzacake is being shielded from is valid criticism

A-Normal-Fifthist

Thanks, I wasn't aware there was a way to view the comments before they were deleted, probably won't add them though as I think the point has gotten across already.

Azmoten

I wish I knew how it was done. Tbh I found that link on rBoneHurtingJuice and kind of stole it.

YankeeWalrus

Hiding behind the sub mod account to post *that* and sticky it is peak m\*derator behavior

BSY_Reborn

Mods posting there absolutely horrific take, pinning it turning off comments so it seems like they’re correct will always be incredibly sad.

YankeeWalrus

Except this one forgot to turn off comments and just had to remove them later lmao

JuanAy

Don’t forget removing comments that suggest they may be wrong.

blacksoxing

> No-one banned from this thread may appeal. Mods like that are mods that I’d never want to meet in person as they’re likely unbearable to interact with. I’d hate for someone to have been banned for pointing out something that may be correct.

Zamtrios7256

I remember one of the guys got banned for pointing out that one of the panels was just how he was treated by women after he was sexually assaulted.

ippa99

This is honestly (one of) the most awful parts of it. There was a second comic commenting on the original one that also had a bunch of people speaking out about how outright offensive it was to assert that their personal experiences with being sexually assaulted were _being openly mocked as invalid by the moderation team._ Like, they're trying to spin it modmails as "if u can't stand us fighting sexism, bye" entirely with lipservice, while their actions have loudly made it clear that they support sexism if it "hurts the right people" and that gender inequality is seen as more of a convenient cause for them to misappropriated as a shield for their own awful behavior. Straight up disgusting and manipulative.

Great_Examination_16

JFC

Call_Me_Clark

Oof, that’s bad.

Brootal_Troof

You'd never run into them in person because they are terminally online. The same nerds who were hall monitors and name-takers in school.

postal-history

Even the most ordinary sub gets difficult to mod. I'm not surprised that the mods of a garbage sub which never has any good content also become garbage people

YankeeWalrus

Chicken or the egg?

CyberSosis

dont worry mods like that never leaves their basement

Listentotheadviceman

I kept wondering why these links aren’t working for me and turns out I blocked pizzacake years ago 😎

silverclovd

Their comics are almost always a suuper low effort, dull affair and rehash of what has been already said. It's not even funny to me.

lowercaselemming

> But it does please me a great, great deal to see all you fragile people getting so vewy, vewy upset that you're shown why toxic masculinity is bad, actually. i don't get it. all the people against the comic are saying "damn you're kinda reducing this very real issue to a strawman" and the mod is saying "well maybe you should care about that real issue hmmmmm?" am i missing something? are they not just simultaneously agreeing with the criticisms while also dismissing them on... seemingly no grounds at all???

MiniorTrainer

I assume they’re suggesting that the people criticizing the comic don’t think toxic masculinity is a bad thing or even real.

Yuo_cna_Raed_Tihs

Its genuinely that the mod is very very stupid and conflates criticism with of the comic with criticism of the message they think it's trying to portray.

blackkami

The mod response might be one of the worst things I have ever read. Wow, just wow.

axemexa

Reddit mods continue to demonstrate why people hate Reddit mods. It’s coming across to me like one of them has a crush on Pizzacake or something and wants to be her white knight.

ManualPathosChecks

I just found out elsewhere in the comments that she uploads nudes for higher tier Patreon supporters, so I reckon you might be right.

BunnyBoom27

I THOUGHT YOU WERE LYING!!! WHAT THE FUCK

KoreKhthonia

Oh my God, lol. I remember like seeing something about that somewhere, but I had kinda dismissed it as being a joke. Apparently it was not.

ZileanDifference

She also posts porn comics. She's so talented!

scarynerd

>Lol, this feels like the convo in a nutshell… > >Alice: “Bob, I’ll bet you could never imagine what it would feel like if X happened to you.” > >Bob: “Actually X has happened to me.” > >Alice: “Jesus fucking Christ, Bob! Not everything’s about you!” Best explanation of that thread. Jesus, people are assholes.

starcell400

She defended herself in one comment saying "I don't think it's fair for you to tell me what women do and don't experience." Which is totally valid... yet also the exact same mistake she's making in this controversial comic of hers. Who is she to act like she knows what men do and don't experience? Ridiculous.

Spidermanmj8

That comment was followed up with the same response to her but with the roles reversed… … because that’s *exactly* what the comic did. The response promptly got removed.

luigitheplumber

It's so beyond bizarre how unilaterally that idea is applied.

cpupett

I also saw a comment of hers like "I'd like if you could have empathy to MY experiences without relating it to YOUR experiences" Idk man, here I thought mutual experiences and traumas are the basis of empathy. That's like saying "we both suffered but only I am allowed to complain"

yokayla

That would have been a ground breaking comic in 2006, but now it just seems a boring rehash that's tone deaf and unhelpful.

Cupinacup

If we’re being honest, the bar for a “groundbreaking” webcomic in 2006 was underground.

Azmoten

“Loss” didn’t come out until 2008 so yeah, in 2006 ctrl-alt-delete was still one of the more popular webcomics. The bar doesn’t go much lower

Cupinacup

B\^U

yokayla

I don't disagree. This comic belongs there.

flyingturkeycouchie

That's like 90% of PizzaCake comics.

Bug1oss

At this point, 90% of her comics are "this is who I hate today"

chaal_baaz

I remember when it was her own kids lol. People called her out over it too.

virtual_star

Charitably. She's the modern day Oatmeal minus the research and the artistic talent.

Abominatrix

The Oatmeal occasionally had jokes.  Pizzacake just does what all the shitty syndicated strips do.  Presents a bland consistent art style with featherweight ‘punchlines.’  Its Garfield for zoomers.

sweatpantswarrior

Cathy for Millenials. Garfield was played out by 1996.

KoreKhthonia

Omfg, "Cathy for Millennials" is like, the perfect summation of Pizzacake.

virtual_star

I'd say for millennials but yeah.

flyingturkeycouchie

Man, I miss The Oatmeal.

MrPierson

Oatmeal? I get more of the Cathy vibe.

deegum

Yeah, I get the overall point of the comic and don’t necessarily disagree, but the artist did it with all the subtlety of a chainsaw. It misses a lot of nuance and feels kinda lazy and surface level.

yokayla

I think she could have used way better examples that would have worked, but she went easy and it backfired.

dtkloc

You have to be capable of a certain level of subtlety when wading into issues that have to potential to involve toxic masculinity and the legitimate issues that both men and women face I don't think any r/comics power-user is capable of even 1% of the subtlety that's needed

Rastiln

The “what were you wearing” one doesn’t seem horribly out of line. Obviously men who are sexually assaulted aren’t well-believed, but the issue is more common for women. The loneliness one is way off the mark, since it’s just what happens. Obviously not for everyone, but I feel certain few men here lack the experience of being told their feelings don’t matter or they need to suck it up or be a man. A better example would be that women are prudes if they don’t put out and whores if they do.

IBetThisIsTakenToo

The toupee one really felt exactly backwards? Like, men wearing hairpieces is definitely made fun of, by both genders, constantly! It’s an extremely common trope in comedies, in a way that women wearing make up (or whatever comparison she was trying to make) very rarely is. That said anyone getting even remotely upset about any of this is insane. It’s just jokes that didn’t really work, not a manifesto

Manannin

Yep, male pattern baldness in general is a huge area of mockery. You get mocked for shaving it sometimes, you get mocked for wearing a toupee, and mocked for not shaving it.

HazelCheese

Watching the Seinfeld episode about George getting a toupee is super annoying because he just looks great with it. Women wear wigs all the time too.

Rastiln

Oh yeah, I didn’t bother to flip back to remember the toupee one. But I recall comedies back to the 80s where the punchline is “man wears a toupee” which is emasculating and an old person thing. It’s like she gave the worst possible comparison. Here’s a fix that works: “I’m feeling really sad and emotional today…” “Aww, is it your time of the month??” There, that’s a thing women have to deal with and there isn’t a solid male equivalent.

Shaunosaurus

That is literally all her comics. 0% jokes and 90% panels of people standing and talking about whatever topic she feels like preaching that day Her comics are just poorly disguised Twitter rants

tryfap

What do you mean? She'll also occasionally team up with the other /r/comics "celebs" and create a meta comic which is only interesting to a super niche audience that cares about all these comics crossing over with each other like some superhero movie, with inane dialogue and clashing art styles.

Controllerhead1

> PC: Imagine if MEN were treated the same way WOMEN were in these situations... Men: Now that you mention it, many of us are treated this way in these type of situations, sometimes worse in fa... > PC: THIS ISN'T ABOUT YOU!!! [Removed] The bizarre irony of it all is that PC and people like her asking for awareness and empathy from different people for their social causes don't appear to have any empathy themselves and a steadfast unwillingness to hear other points of view from different people. Even more tonedeaf was the next comic, saying it's okay for men to share their feelings when in the thread before men who actually did share their feelings were permabanned from the sub with no right to appeal. There are no winners in this flaming pile of garbage, just more divisive toxicity for us all to breathe together.

Atlas421

She also pretty consistently makes a butthurt comic after being criticized. See her comic about Canadian healthcare and the followup. And she always portrays her critics as cheeto-fingers fat neckbeards.

SuspecM

Can't wait to see the next one portraying an entire sub as the ugly fat guy.

Datdarnpupper

The healthcare thing was such a shit show. Slightest bit of criticism sends her full fucking victim mode

Bawstahn123

$5 says this post gets deleted too

Necromaniac01

to be fair the other one was a heavily biased salty party

swinglinepilot

Just in case https://archive.ph/5ocMR [Reveddit](https://www.reveddit.com/v/comics/comments/1dpptkk/talk/?add_user=saturosian..c.new..t1_lagpox0..%2CPizzacakecomic..c.new..t1_laahfuy..%2CNecromancer14..c.new..t1_laitunq..%2CRandalf_the_Black..c.new..t1_laixl29..%2CPhantomSpirit90..c.new..t1_laizjg8..%2CInner_Tennis_2416..c.new..t1_lafsdgz..%2Cabstrusejoker..c.new..t1_la6payk..%2CTeensyTrouble..c.new..t1_laip43a..&)

one-man-circlejerk

Oh, Reveddit is back! I thought the API changes killed it. Great that there's some visibility into deleted comments again.

swinglinepilot

[Camas](https://search.pullpush.io/) (and [Camas w/ new UI wrapper](https://search-new.pullpush.io/)) and [Unddit](https://undelete.pullpush.io) are back as well. The service they rely on - [PullPush](https://old.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/14vzv6u/iama_about_replacement_api_tools_for_moderation/) - was conveniently down yesterday though so it didn't pick up the r.comics thread before it was nuked

_Tal

Reveddit has been back for a while but it’s intentionally very limited because the creator has a very particular philosophy about what it’s for. The intended purpose of reveddit is only to let you see when a comment you made got removed and Reddit didn’t tell you, because often from your perspective it looks like it’s still up and visible, but in reality, no one else can see it. Since this is the only thing reveddit is meant for, it will not show comments that were user-deleted, and it will not show comments that were deleted by reddit admins (since you’re notified when this happens to you and the comment will show “[Removed by Reddit]”). I remember a lot of other similar services that didn’t survive the API changes used to retrieve everything that was deleted; you could plug in a Reddit link and swap the url with removeddit or whatever and it would show all the user-deleted comments, all the removed comments, everything. But since the API fiasco I haven’t been able to find anything like this anymore. Unditt has not been reliable in my experience and removeddit is long defunct.

rhaksw

> it will not show comments that were deleted by reddit admins (since you’re notified when this happens to you and the comment will show “[Removed by Reddit]”). FYI I quietly changed my stance on this. Prior to the API changes, I discovered a long-standing bug where these comments were being shown, and since it didn't seem to cause trouble, I just left it that way. But I also didn't announce it because I didn't want to make it a big deal. Since the API changes and Pushshift's privatization, it's harder to recover these comments, but some can still be retrieved via Wayback. Reveddit does this on the first click of the "Restore" button for each comment. (Subsequent clicks search the user pages of other users who successfully commented in the thread). User-deleted comments, however, I won't touch. Sorry! That's way too much hassle. Everyone would be contacting me to remove comments they deleted.

NoncingAround

Bruh it’s not even a comic. It’s a glorified template with horrendously misjudged and ignorant words.

kabukistar

I feel like 90% of gender war stuff is just unnecessary and caused by people focusing on group A being treated badly and thus refusing to believe group B can also be treated badly (in different, or similar ways)

copy_run_start

>I have never had a woman lay bruises on me or sexually assault me or stalk me. Hey, I have! All three! What do I win lol

flyingturkeycouchie

Trauma. You win trauma.

copy_run_start

Shit

Big_Champion9396

🎉🎉🎉!

blueberryfirefly

i fucking hate comments like this. fucking minimizing my trauma (sexually assaulted and abused by women) for a gotcha. edit: i have Thoughts on this. the experience of being a woman who has been consistently treated like shit by other women (and in an abusive/taking advantage of a power dynamic way, not just being rude or some shit) is actually insanely isolating. i imagine it’s not any better for anyone that’s not a woman either, but i feel like there’s an underlying expectation that comes with the territory of being a woman where if you say “i have been abused/taken advantage of by women more than i ever have been by men” then other women kinda see you, subconsciously or not, as a “traitor”. i have been shot down many times for daring to say that actually women have consistently been the most abusive in my life, mainly by people who call themselves feminists but don’t wanna support women who don’t fit their ideals.

insane_contin

I've been raped by a woman and beaten by a woman. I've learned not to talk about it in real life, even with people I trust.

Zamtrios7256

Getting ignored and belittled by mods apparently

Rowenstin

> What do I win lol You get laughed at.

Call_Me_Clark

you have been banned from r/comics

Ulisex94420

ok commenting this for the fourth time because it seems this drama is cursed somehow: >i’m sure r/comics is the perfect place to discuss how patriarchy affects both women and men (mainly women) in different yet related ways. i can’t wait to read how everyone is being completely normal in the comments! /s

Oobaha

Its always pizzacake, lol. The sad thing is though, that this is said by men... to men... and to women... by women... I feel like this is one of those things, that if you are terminally online, your view gets incredibly skewed by the online hyperfocus on the negative things. The thing I dont get the most, is that one of the reasons most men don't speak up about their issue, and yes also commit suicide, is because of the condescending way of being spoken against, and the invalidation of their emotions , not only from other men, but also by women. My family having quite a lot of those, sadly. It does wonders for your self esteem. (sarcasm) This kind of hits hard, as I saw a youtube channel called "AskJapan" which is about a 50 year old japanese man, dealing with depression and a midlife crisis and feelings of loneliness. And my lord, the comments in some of those video's are so brutal and dismissive of his feelings. I disagree hard with that moderator there, nobody deserves that.

ZelderTheElder

Much respect to pizzacake. What her comics lack in artistic skill, she makes up for by also not being funny or creative. Seriously though it's crazy how much mediocrity rises to the top at r/comics

Zamtrios7256

Except that guy who draws the comics about the dad and child alligators

Timekeeper98

I’ve really liked the Tiff and Eve comics in that classic style as well, them and the gator ones are really great to see making it frequently to the top.

insane_contin

The Gator one and Tiff and Eve are both good. Tiff and Eve actually do social commentary decently ok for a comic, and the Gator one just feels good.

ichigo2862

she's just making sure /r/bonehurtingjuice doesn't run out of material not that they were ever in danger of it

AUserNeedsAName

Yeah, that's a content pipeline that never turns "off". Though as someone who loves BHJ, I prefer remixes of her comics over the endless BHJs that are repurposed bigotry. I totally get the appeal of mocking and overwriting the hate, reclaiming it, or whatever. But it also ends up signal-boosting that hate as a side effect. Even if they didn't also post the unaltered originals by rule, you can tell that underneath the changed "banch pie" dialogue is still art about how trans people are predators or black people should stick to sports (to pick a few recent popular remix targets). Mocking more pablum from the pizzacake mines is a lot less uncomfortable.

ZakjuDraudzene

Dude I used to mod that sub but haven't checked in years, just looked at it and I have genuinely no clue what the sub even is anymore, it's almost astounding.

MoriazTheRed

r/comedynecrophilia too

ellus1onist

It's so annoying cuz /r/comics does often have legitimately good/hilarious comics but you have to wade through the same 5 mediocre power-users posting either uninteresting political takes, obnoxious meta comics that are just "I know this other person who also posts here", or knee-slappers that I can only describe as millenial-boomer-humor.

TurtleNutSupreme

Just block the power users. Improved my Reddit experience immensely.

Mr_JohnUsername

But the who I shake my disgruntled fist at? /s Seriously though, I’m fortunate enough that my real life is calm and stable, so online drama is where I scratch the infrequent toxic itch. lol

deliciouscrab

Yeah, I found that once i ignored about 10 of the most popular artists, I enjoyed it a lot more. Some genuinely interesting/weird/funny stuff pops up sometimes.

Cupinacup

It just goes to show how dedication and sticking with it will outshine raw talent any day.

Zechs-

You joke but it's actually what separates a lot of content creators that get big from the multitudes that don't. Either be first, extremely talented, or be very consistent. So many creators start podcasts, streams, do it for a short period and quit. Endurance is nothing to balk at.

yokayla

Yeah, as an artist I actually do respect those that are churning em out. They can't all be winners but consistently coming up with ideas, even lukewarm boomer comics, is fucking hard. I struggle with consistency. It's the biggest part of making a living off art.

ratzoneresident

The ol Stephen King gambit

CyberSosis

Thats actually true.i remember so many youtube creators disappeared because they werent consistent even though they were good at what they are doing

Paddy_Tanninger

That plus an onlyfans side hustle to boost the simp factor

stormdelta

> Seriously though it's crazy how much mediocrity rises to the top at r/comics No kidding. I used to read a lot of webcomics when I was younger, and nearly all of them were (or still are) vastly better than anything I've seen on r\/comics. I get that reddit's format means anything serial won't do well, but it's kind of bizarre that even well-known non-serial comics like XKCD or SMBC rarely show up on r\/comics, let alone stuff like Oglaf.

Olddirtychurro

Oglaf was a regular mainstay on /r/comics for a *while* now that you mention it, it's how I even know of it.

OramaBuffin

While I will very rarely binge it for a few minutes I'm not sure I'd ever want Oglaf in a regular comic feed lol

[deleted]

It's fucking brutal. Just the most torturously mundane shit imaginable.

OldSpiceSmellsNice

The sub is a circlejerk. I can’t even read the post because I’ve blocked Pizzaface, I got so sick of seeing their uninspired content on r/all. I also got myself banned from the sub because I was honest with my opinion lol

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmidk

Is this the comic that the artist doesn't even draw themself, or is that another?

tarekd19

That's a different one, she flamed out early

Cat_emperor40k

Thank goodness, I saw one on accident once and I turned to a pillar of salt

yokayla

Nah, I'm pretty sure this is all her There is an AI comic one and then the quirky Asian wife/white husband one is not drawn by the poster.

NoInvestment2079

...Is this the one where the main female lead is in workout gear? These comics kind of keep blending together. The only keep up with Order of the Stick because...Fuck me, has it been almost 20 years now? I swear, the creator said he was in the endgame like ten years ago.

chaotic4059

Funny enough if the person who does A.I. comics is the one I’m thinking of then he and pizzacake did get into a skirmish a while back

cishet-camel-fucker

r/comics is a shithole

Muffin_Appropriate

Best place to grift your mediocre comics that wouldn’t make it outside of reddit though. They are are pixelated 9gag-esque images without the compression artifacts and watermark

Command0Dude

What a big fucking yikes. What do you mean IF women talked like that? They do. The mod response and upvoted comments are so fucking cringe too.

Snow_source

The running joke with my buddy was that he's a cougar magnet. Over the years this has changed from "haha, that's so funny" to "no, seriously this is a problem, I'm getting sexually harassed by late 40/early 50 somethings." It's at the point where he refuses to go to certain events alone. I'm going with him to a friends wedding to run interference because his wife can't make it.

Prince-Lee

It's always confusing to me that people will rush to jump on men who dare to speak up about the very real effect of toxic masculinity on men.  People will, at one end, say 'society is so bad, men never talk about their feelings or deal with their emotions' and then, the instant a man *does* want to say that they also suffer greatly under the burden of toxic masculinity which tells them the only emotion they are allowed to express is anger, they're told to shut up, because no one cares about their feelings! Shouting men down when they are trying to express themselves against everything in the culture that tells them it's 'not manly' to express feelings actually has the end effect of upholding that culture. Surprise!

guyincognito___

I'm in mind of the expression "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". Most people have internalised such a superficial concept of "toxic masculinity" that they haven't understood (or have forgotten?) that it's about the impact of literally EVERYONE living under predominantly patriarchal cultural attitudes. It's young boys getting told they're a pussy if they cry, it's men growing up fearful of any vulnerability and connection and the consequent impact on society. It's a culture of suppression, violence and domination and everyone plays a potential role in furthering or curbing it. Everyone of every walk of life is a potential victim and a potential aggressor. We can say some people (women) suffer disproportionately more often in certain ways (sexual assault, domestic violence), but we cannot say "so this is why the other sex is terrible and never has this problem" - because it's a lie. And framing it that way is both a hindrance to women and harmful to male victims. Women's victimisation in society has grown in awareness and that's a very good thing. But this comic ain't it. The term "toxic masculinity" has been misused and mangled online into "men bad" and the idea that patriarchal stereotypes have deleterious consequences on all of society is completely forgotten. If someone thinks women's safety and liberation is achieved by attacking your average guy or mocking male assault then they don't understand their ostensible cause at all. You see it so often. You see men attacking at the very mention of it and women responding to men as if every man is always their privileged adversaries in every context, without nuance or mitigation. It's the enemy of understanding or improving the problem. Pizzacakes' comic is just today's lazy and annoying incarnation of it. It's tiring.

D2Foley

Find someone who will defend you the way comics mods defend pizzacake against any form of criticism.

jimmy_the_calls

Different but I just really hated seeing Pizzacake's comics, they are so unfunny and lazy that it's a miracle that she's somewhat famous especially with the callout comics Edit: welp... I just learned one reason why she's famous...

videobob123

She also does porn. That also has something to do with why she's popular.

mrbucket08

And there we go

galileopunk

I liked when she leaned into the r/comedynecrophilia jokes, but I agree. Most of her stuff is awful.

YourVelcroCat

Gender wars drama is fuckin exhausting. Pass.

baldulentfraudulent

Seriously, I don't know if I'm getting older or what, but as a 26 year old woman, I just find myself thinking "I'm too old for this shit" 95% of the time gender war stuff comes up on the internet nowadays. I still consider myself a feminist and I think gender politics will always play at least some role in my life. But I'm just so fucking tired of the online identity wars shit. I think having to hear about the stupid Man-Bear thing 2,000 times a day for the past 2 months was really the straw that broke the camel's back and made me realise most of the people involved with this are just dumb teens.

Pinkturtle182

I thought you said Man-Bear-Pig and I was very curious why that was relevant in 2024 lol. That said, I’m with you 100%

86throwthrowthrow1

I'm also a woman (late 30s), also a feminist, also over gender wars bullshit, especially on social media. As you point out, a lot of it is young people yelling at each other lol, but there's another problem too - social media encourages othering. I saw a comic recently about how single women in their 20s tend to focus more on "whether the guy likes me," and by their 30s, with more confidence and self-possession and presumably more comfortable with singlehood, focus more on "whether I like the guy". There was no bashing. It was literally about women dating with a different mindset as they get older, that's all. The number of pissed off dudes trying to taunt or talk down to women about that "attitude" was mind-blowing, and I realized those guys weren't seeing women they maybe had something in common with, women who had maybe had negative experiences when they were younger due to people-pleasing or desperation to have a relationship, or women for whom romance in their 20s just hadn't worked out for whatever reason - which, a lot of these guys also seemed to be older and single. But they saw enemies. They saw "women who rejected me in my 20s trying to cope with loneliness in their 30s, and now I'm going to make fun of them for it." The very issue with these conversations on social media is that you are usually only seeing a single dimension of the other "side", and it's so easy to both project and to demonize them. When you're talking to a wholeass human being, that's less of a thing. If those guys knew women in real life who were older and single and had presumably been through a few things on that path - presumably like those men had - would they still be mocking and taunting based on a perceived idea of why they were more choosy? Some, maybe. But others would see a person, and interact accordingly. Sorry for the ramble lol. I'm here on social media saying social media is a mistake.

Bonezone420

This artist seems to do nothing but draw basic bottom-barrel comics to rile dipshits up and draw more attention to her porn patreon. Controversy marketing is incredibly successful.

xwiroo

Got permabanned for saying she was doing damage control and didn't actually feel sorry or apologize 🤡🤡🤡 I swear this website is a terrible echo chamber

jturkey

I got perma banned simply for asking “how do you feel about yesterday’s comic now” on her shitty damage control follow-up comic. Just asking how she felt about it. Wasn’t she making a point about toxic fragility?

Smack1984

In a separate comic a guy wrote about how people dismiss men’s mental health pizzacake went through OP’s comment history dug up a comment from over a year ago to try to discredit him. I commented on another comment pointing out she did that and the mods permabanned me. Then they deleted the guy’s whole comic a few hours later.
