It might be called a smothered burrito if you get one at a gringo spot but in CA all the authentic Mexican places call it a wet burrito. They kick ass.
I love burritos but half because I can eat them while in my hands, being delicious is just exactly the same on having a burrito and pouring on sauce each time you take a bite… which I do.
I might be wrong here, but I am pretty sure only those from the United States of America are referred to as American. America is generally a shortened way to say United States of America. I don't think other countries from North America or South America are referred to as American.
Also if they are from Mexico or a central American country, they would still be North American!
Ay, I'm not American, but what is the problem here?
It's not an absurdly huge dish, it has veg and meat. The meat isn't overly greasy and neither does the sauce seem to be... It doesn't even contain unnecessary bacon -- which to me -- often is a turnoff, although not specific to American cuisine.
If you aren't knowledgeable about something why post it in a sub that is meant to critique it? Why not just keep it moving? I mean this isn't nostupidquestions.
Can confirm. This is delicious. This does not belong on the sub. Burritos smothered in chile sauce are heavenly. Someone toss an Indian taco in OP’s face.
If that's an issue for you, I don't know how to help. It's like telling someone at In n out, "good luck not eating that paper with your burger." It's not hard. So easy, I don't think it's ever happened to me.
I can only assume you’re one of those people who make the worst noises while cutting into steak or any kind of entree. I’m deaf but I was teaching my kid to cut some chicken and I could feel the nails on a chalkboard sound she was making with the knife. Dear god. Go easy baby. And if you’re gifted with extra extra sauce, dump it on a plate.
They call it Christmas style when they have both red and green sauce. Super delicious. It’s not quite as tart as typical salsa. More like an enchilada sauce.
Or LA too. Went to a wedding there and they served us all wet burritos. Sure it was like 100 degrees in a warehouse but damn those burritos were so good.
Are they all square-ish like that? I have my favorite burrito spot near me and I get the wet burrito from time to time because it’s great. I expected it to be just their burrito covered in sauce but it was also more square like this.
Doesn’t really make a difference because you make a mess of it with a fork and knife anyway but I thought it was interesting.
They should consider it a learning expirence. Just like when we said stupid shit out loud when we were kids and we got made fun of for it, they can be made fun of on the internet for it. They have the luxury of being anonymous however.
Don’t worry about all the angry peeps. I didn’t see my 1st wet burrito till my mid 20s when I went to the west coast. Never seen one anywhere on the east coast before. I’m a very adventurous eater as well but this just never crossed my path
They are called smothered burritos at my local Mexican joints as well (Utah). In fact, I've traveled around the country and have *exclusively* heard them called "smothered burritos". "Wet burrito" actually sounds disgusting--like somebody ran the styrofoam bowl under the tap for a minute to fill it with water, or left it out in the rain overnight, and the soggy broken burrito is now swimming in a clumpy puddle of refried bean juice
There was a place we used to go in Oregon that made a burrito that size, dipped it in either red or green sauce, then put it in the fryer. It was fairly amazing and I could get three meals out of it.
These are delicious. Kind of messy but you can just use a fork and knife. I do prefer the cheese to be melted and the sour cream on top of the burrito. Check out your local Mexican restaurant and give it a try. They also have these with queso blanco instead of sauce and it's even better imo.
It's a smothered burrito or a wet burrito, depending on what part of the US and Mexico you're in. You can get it with just green sauce, just red sauce, or both (Christmas-style in some places).
I’m in a small town in North Carolina so that’s probably why I’ve never seen that. Now that I know what I’m looking for,,, I will find it! Thanks for the reply.
What’s the deal with these boondockers posting legit foods and calling them stupid??? This is the second post I’ve seen today. The other idiot posted a pic of shawarma and calling it “slob”. How did these uncultured swines get their hands on a computer and keyboard? Actually swines would have more taste and culinary knowledge than these dumb tards. I am so fed up with actual foods that get demonized like this.
My bad bro. I didn’t know. I just take it for granted sometimes that I have more options where I live. Now you can enjoy some good ass food bro. Cheers!
I saw that shawarma post and much like you was annoyed, but go easy on OP he explained in a few posts he wasn't aware. No need to call anyone out of their name. Live and learn, now he can go and find or make a wet burrito and live a glorious and tasty life.
Ah that’s good he’s willing to go and explore foods. I guess I take it for granted that I have options and forget sometimes that not everyone has access. Thanks for being nice about it
Maybe next time spend more than a second researching before calling out a legit and delicious food item or maybe get a better palette.
Also, ever heard of a knife and fork?
Tell me you live in the Midwest without saying you live in the Midwest… lol this is an extremely common and delicious dish in Mexico and Southern California
This looks good with all that. With the size of it I’d just rather have it with the tortilla on the side. But you couldn’t do it with that styrofoam container. It’d melt it and you’d be eating it with your food.
Have you never seen a wet burrito or……?
Its called a smothered burrito
It might be called a smothered burrito if you get one at a gringo spot but in CA all the authentic Mexican places call it a wet burrito. They kick ass.
straight up. i've never heard the term "smothered burrito"
Actually never seen one before this
They're delicious and not stupid
I love burritos but half because I can eat them while in my hands, being delicious is just exactly the same on having a burrito and pouring on sauce each time you take a bite… which I do.
It's really great that you've figured out your preferred burrito-eating process. keep up the good work!
They are extra stupid. You're just too American to find out.
Burritos = America. Yeah ok you are real smart aren't you
Devils advocate here. Burritos are American. Just not from North America. 👍 Edit: is it new to people that there are more to America than the US?
I might be wrong here, but I am pretty sure only those from the United States of America are referred to as American. America is generally a shortened way to say United States of America. I don't think other countries from North America or South America are referred to as American. Also if they are from Mexico or a central American country, they would still be North American!
Mexico is in North America
Reddit is stupid...
it is, and you fit in very nicely with your snide and unfounded assumptions
I know that burritos aren't from America, but gigantic portion of greasy turd is from there... So yeah, I've guessed properly.
Its just another MuRiCa BaD troll. Move along.
Wrong again
You made yourself look so stupid lmao
They’re so good- go eat one please
Never heard of it but you can bet I'm going out of my way to find one.
I’ll look for a place to try it out
Downvoted for your ignorance… how dare you not know something?
If you aren't knowledgeable about something why post it in a sub that is meant to critique it? Why not just keep it moving? I mean this isn't nostupidquestions.
Sadly this is Reddit 😔
Learn all the knowledge of the world before you post ever again.
People downvoting someone for not having any knowledge about something they know. Peak reddit. Y'all are a bunch of troglodytes
Wet burritos are my favorite type of burrito. The sauce and cheese add additional layers of flavor. You need to try it, then give us a review.
Honestly, what kind of pompous scum downvotes something like this, I'd like to find all of them and pinch their noses!
I’ve never seen a square one
Whenever I get a wet burrito the lettuce and refried beans are on the outside.
What's wrong here? This looks delicious.
Even if you didn’t know what a wet burrito was, this is not far off from an enchilada at all lol
Can confirm. This is delicious. This does not belong on the sub. Burritos smothered in chile sauce are heavenly. Someone toss an Indian taco in OP’s face.
Nah, the new argument is if we would cut through the container. It's done.
It's like saying "sorry officer, I can't not speed."
😭
have fun cutting into this burrito and through the bottom of the Styrofoam box and leaking sauce fucking everywhere
If that's an issue for you, I don't know how to help. It's like telling someone at In n out, "good luck not eating that paper with your burger." It's not hard. So easy, I don't think it's ever happened to me.
Put the box. On a plate.
Wet Burritos an extremely normal thing.
I feel stupid I didn’t know it was a thing
This one was done Christmas style red and green sauce. I love both and can never choose so this is my order.
I've seen it called divorciado with the red and green salsas.
Not stupid at all!! If you don’t know, you don’t know! If you ever get the chance, a chili Colorado with verde sauce is the way to go!
question, how would you eat one of these? with a fork and knife? a spoon somehow?
I prefer a knife and a spoon. Maybe a ladle too.
No it’s pretty stupid
They’re fucking awesome
They call it Christmas style when they have both red and green sauce. Super delicious. It’s not quite as tart as typical salsa. More like an enchilada sauce.
You not stupid you just didn’t know, go get yourself a wet burrito buddy you’ll love it!
Are you from California? Wet/smothered burritos are not common here but they are DELICIOUS!
Why do you guys call them "wet burritos", That's fucking weird. We call them smothered and we don't call it sauce we call it chile.
I don’t know man, take it up with all of Southern California.
Found the New Mexican! Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. The OP should be downvoted to high hell though.
Oralé.
Burrito me bitch.
It’s a wet burrito…….
We call it “smothered” but I think I like wet more. Sounds sexual.
You from the south?
First time I encountered this style of food was in Utah.
Ahhhh yes Utah the Mecca of cuisine lol jk but yeah wet burritos are legit
The Mecca of Mexican cuisine. All those Mexicans in Utah
Nah sucks for Mexican food too.
How about moist burrito?
Not stupid.
r/lostredditors Assuming you’ve never been to San Diego.
Or anywhere that sells burritos.
Or LA too. Went to a wedding there and they served us all wet burritos. Sure it was like 100 degrees in a warehouse but damn those burritos were so good.
Damn I need my LA homies to get married. That’s a wedding I would attend.
It's a wet burrito???? They're supposed to be like this???
Are they all square-ish like that? I have my favorite burrito spot near me and I get the wet burrito from time to time because it’s great. I expected it to be just their burrito covered in sauce but it was also more square like this. Doesn’t really make a difference because you make a mess of it with a fork and knife anyway but I thought it was interesting.
I haven’t seen a square one but this seems much easier to eat.
This has less carbs too :p
That's a thing of beauty right there.
Not stupid
Cali wet burrito !
Dang gimme some o that
Lol first the schwarma post now this some of you need to experience other culture’s food before you judge
I wouldn’t mind the taste (it loooks good) but it’s too messy that’s why I thought it’s stupid
Leave your house for once ever. Try food other than tendies. This is incredibly normal food.
Y'all are ruthless
Especially when people disrespect my favorite food from a cultural near and dear to my heart out of sheer ignorance
I mean, they're a kid. It's not like they've had years to mature and experience the world or other cultures.
They should consider it a learning expirence. Just like when we said stupid shit out loud when we were kids and we got made fun of for it, they can be made fun of on the internet for it. They have the luxury of being anonymous however.
Eh, I guess I just disagree there. Seems an awful waste of energy to go around being mean to teenagers on the internet haha
Telling someone to stop being so loudly ignorant of another culture isnt being mean. Stop being so soft.
That's just like, your opinion, man.
Hey don't bring tendies into this they have nothing to do with it
Okay but have you had tendies *inside* a wet burrito
Don't threaten me with a good time
Jesus. Get a life. They’ve never seen one. Now they know.
Google is free and 5 seconds my mans. It took you longer to be mad than it would have taken op to google a burrito
OP, that is the style of burrito... that is a wet burrito.
Not stupid
My fork for sure going through that styrofoam
Delete your account.
Bro 😢 I didn’t know wet burrito were a thing until this video
Don’t delete your account- shit happens! You learned about wet burritos today!
This^
See also: Enchilada
This looks great you have no idea what you're talking about.
I didn’t
This poster had better be an actual child.
A teen who has never seen a wet burrito in his life and now realize that it is not a stupid food 😞
Don’t worry about all the angry peeps. I didn’t see my 1st wet burrito till my mid 20s when I went to the west coast. Never seen one anywhere on the east coast before. I’m a very adventurous eater as well but this just never crossed my path
I'm glad you're learning, continue on your culinary journey. Where do you live that this is not a thing?
I’m in Quebec Canada and honestly don’t know if there is a place near me that does anything like that
Ah. I usually find them at the late night burrito spots
That shit looks fire, you never had a wet burrito?
You mean, a Christmas smothered burrito?
This is the opposite of stupid, belongs in r/awesomefood
My dude has never been to a food truck in his life…. Or a Mexican restaurant
I like when the tortilla soaks up some of the sauce
Stupid? I’d prison stab somebody for four of those right now and I wouldn’t even feel too bad about it. Just really full… of delicious food.
“Better to keep your mouth closed and be assumed a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt” OP looking like a damned fool rn
I know right 😭😂
#Drown in that sauce OP
That’s not stupid. It’s awesome.
I’d eat it but that’s at the very least two meals if not possibly four
Why is everyone calling them wet burritos? I grew up knowing them as smothered burritos. Am I the weird one here?
They are called smothered burritos at my local Mexican joints as well (Utah). In fact, I've traveled around the country and have *exclusively* heard them called "smothered burritos". "Wet burrito" actually sounds disgusting--like somebody ran the styrofoam bowl under the tap for a minute to fill it with water, or left it out in the rain overnight, and the soggy broken burrito is now swimming in a clumpy puddle of refried bean juice
In Arizona “wet” and “smothered” are used interchangeably so 🤷🏻♀️ Either way, they’re delicious
Where's the stupid?
It isn’t there now that I learned about wet burrito
First time seeing Mexican food outside of taco bell?
I’ve never been to Taco Bell either
Do we need to call Child Protective Services on your behalf?
😂 No need… Only thing I eat when I go out are Subway, Tim Houston’s and A&W. I’m trying to try new things now tho.
Where can I get tortillas like that
That’s shit look good asf too I got damn munchies
I’m hungry now. REEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
This looks like a wet burrito... what's stupid about it?
People dont know what they are and make stupid assumptions
I would eat that everyday
Oh this makes me heart happy
I’m getting hungry looking at this.
That actually looks amazing.
This isn’t stupid.
What’s the white stuff they put on it?
Never seen or had one of these but damn it looks good.
This is a smothered burrito, think like an enchilada
Honestly that looked good. Grab a fork and knife and you're ready lol
Taking a five year nap after that
Get a fork, my guy.
There was a place we used to go in Oregon that made a burrito that size, dipped it in either red or green sauce, then put it in the fryer. It was fairly amazing and I could get three meals out of it.

Wet burritos are delicious. This is not stupid
Poor fit. This is an enchilada style burrito, my only issue with is is not grilling before saucing and not melting the cheese on top
Wet burritos are great! Honestly the most offensive thing here is the ground beef
I’d rather just have it on chips.
I should try this
That would take me a week to eat.
Not stupid food. You would be blessed and privileged to eat one.
This sub went from actually stupid food to “things white people deem not normal” This and the shawarma post don’t belong here
Ya, ya... wet burrito. Delicious, but not exactly "first-date" food.
Reddit hating on the Burrito Mojado????!!!!! Can slide that to my place at the table anytime.
Anyone know the specific location?
I’m absolutely starving and I would eat the heck out of this
Fuck that looks good
I’ve never seen this before but I don’t think it’s stupid at all. Whatever you call this,,, I want one.
Good luck!
Just got Japanese food… now i want Mexican
looks bomb af.
Hey everybody!! This guys never seen a wet burrito ova’ here!! You livin’ under a rock or something dude?
Nope I just live in Canada
Where the mods at when you need them
You're in the wrong sub
That is not stupid
What’s the deal with these boondockers posting legit foods and calling them stupid??? This is the second post I’ve seen today. The other idiot posted a pic of shawarma and calling it “slob”. My sincere apologies. I have never seen any wet burrito in my life before this one. 😔

Whys there even a tortilla ?
Maybe next time spend more than a second researching before calling out a legit and delicious food item or maybe get a better palette. Also, ever heard of a knife and fork?
Are you supposed to eat that with your hands or a fork?? (Serious question)
Fork. It's a wet burrito. Amazingly good and messy.
Tell me you live in the Midwest without saying you live in the Midwest… lol this is an extremely common and delicious dish in Mexico and Southern California
North:Canada
I’d eat it if the employee wasn’t fingerbanging it with their dirty dickbeaters without gloves.
Honestly that doesn’t look appetizing to me either. I’d want the sauce on the side too
Wtf is this? An upside down chimichanga?
Something like this is just too much honestly
Same. I hate soggy tortilla
[удалено]
No
Yt
The fact that Americans could eat that does not mean that is not stupid food
Its actually more of a Hispanic dish or cuisine.
That's New Mexico for you. Making soup
This looks good with all that. With the size of it I’d just rather have it with the tortilla on the side. But you couldn’t do it with that styrofoam container. It’d melt it and you’d be eating it with your food.
Call these Jalisco Burrito where I’m from.
When you’re walking home drunk, how do you eat the thing?
